    I wish the game started pre calamity so you could experience the story leading up to the events that put link in the shrine of resurrection. We were robbed of a great action sequence where we escort zelda out of a burning castle town that is being attacked by guardians. Having the game start before the calamity would also allow players to sympathize with the hylians who lost their lives, homes, and cities. This could give players the incentive the game desperately needs for you to fight ganon and feel like he is an actual threat.

    • @voyan38
      @voyan38  2 года назад +19

      Have always wanted this! Imagine how cool it would be to explore Castle town before it gets brutally ripped away from you. Bonding with the champions and NPCs who are also torn from you. I think that would've given lots more of a vengeance quest for CG. Breath of the Wild Ground Zeroes, if you will. And yeah AOC exists but I never felt like checking it out because warriors games don't pique me.

      Instead of starting in pre-calamity Hyrule, I think it would be awesome to fully or at least partially experience it during the segments where you reclaim your past memories. Like every time you unlock one you gain access to a sort of dream space where you can live through and experience Hyrule as it was in segments that grow larger and connect with more memories being unlocked. It would make sense lore-wise since when you start, Link has lost most of his memories.

      @@derekstapleton3396 I've never thought about it, but having link relive his memories is a phenomenal way of incorporating action/story sequences and make you care about the characters a lot more. That's actually genius

    My biggest problem with botw is that 90 percent of the story happens without us being there. There’s also the music, the enemy selection, and the story. Also there were characters that I really wanted to get to know more of. Like the champions. If Mipha is so much of a badass with a trident… THEN SHOW ME.

    In the Calamity Ganon fight you can parry the fire ball things he shoots at you when he climbs the wall, sending it back to him (if you use a Lynel shield it will explode on you instead tho due to the damage it deals). So yes, there is tennis in BotW.

    I agree. To be honest, BOTW as a whole was lacking compared to the past Zelda series. Yeah the open world was cool and all, but the dungeons, bosses, characters, the music, the story was so.... dull. And the lack of travelling companion. All I had with me was a horse which were later replaced with a bike. I felt so alone.
    I'm worried that nintendo will keep going with this direction in the future Zelda series. Which they will because dumbass like me will keep paying them.

      Characters? I feel like Zelda's character was particularly well-done in this game. Yeah, she was an ass at first (and she actually had a reason for it -- even if it was kind of self-centered) but we see character development from her. She didn't feel like a pretty little doll that we had to rescue because it's "Link's destiny."

    I can't believe you somehow managed to squeeze an comparative analysis of all the big bads into an eight minute video! Kudos to you. Definitely agree about Calamity Ganon's lack of...well, anything. It didn't necessarily bother me (even though I'm normally a huge stickler for proactive antagonists) bc I understood the genre, and also assumed they had likely run out of time/money to do more since the project had been so vastly delayed. Would I wish that, in a perfect world, they wove him into an overarching story? Undoubtedly. When you reminded me of that HORRIFYING moment with Zant, I really did miss the level of terror and even the active desire to stop Ganon. My best friend and I just said she played over 100 hours and never beat CG because she just...didn't care about him. There's a lot to discuss here, but I think you brought up an extremely valid point to keep in mind as more open-world games continue being produced.

      i’ve also seen people actively say that they loved botw so much that they never wanted to “finish” the game; i’m sure calamity ganon being such a weak villian probably only adds to that point for many. that’s a very insightful opinion, thanks for sharing!

  • @DarthRaichu

    I think one of the major problems with the difficulty scaling in botw is that there is none. Most of the time this works to the games favor, and helps add to the enjoyment of the game. But in the instance of specifically Ganon, I feel that most had gotten incredibly op in terms of the weapons. Past Zelda games felt more epic in terms of the final boss and were more enjoyable in their execution. I honestly expected the opposite for how terrifying Ganon looked in this game.
    Edit: I have to agree with the ganondorf wind waker statement. He felt more relatable and it was a lot easier to connect with him as a character and less as an enemy.

    i have a cool idea to improve ganon a little bit. Once you take back a divine beast ganon will send out some of his underlings to figure out whats wrong. if a guardian finds you he will call on other nearby guardians and they would act diferenty based on how many guardians are present : for instan if 2 are present they will sircle around you and if 5 are present they would not realy strategise as they know the will win. thats just my opinion though

  • @lnsflare1
    @lnsflare1 2 года назад +1

    Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana is pretty much what BotW would have been as a more arcadey interpretation of a traditional 3D Zelda game (almost suspiciously so, if it didn't come out almost a year before BotW and if all of their many shared aspects weren't just orations on things that Nihon Falcom has been doing since at least the PSP era, especially in the Ys series), complete with a boss that is more an impersonal force of nature than a person.
    But because the game was so narrative heavy it had way more presence and impact than Calamity Ganon even though you never see it or find out its name until the final battle. And let's not get into how much insanely better the boss fight against it and the somewhat related Epilogue boss was.

    I don't think he was really a bad villain to be honest...a "big swirling vaguely sentient force of evil" sounds like another Nintendo villain actually...a villain that's actually very terrafying. Calamity Ganon is genuinely imposing and you feel his presence throughout the game via the malice stuff...and how the guardians are basically his "agents".

    leaving this comment as a reminder to come back and watch this video, i’ll leave my thoughts as an edit down below when i do
    --------------------
    okay, so i see what you’re saying. i never realized they did such a good job focusing on the main villians - and what made them threatening - in other zelda games, which makes calamity ganon such a bland evil force (not even a real villian!) by comparison. that being said, one thing they _did_ do was put pieces of calamity ganon’s essence in the divine beasts. so really, you can’t say he’s just sitting on his ass; he is doing something, albeit the bare minimum, to prevent you from stopping him.
    however, botw could’ve honestly had a midgame moment (maybe after freeing 2 of the four divine beasts?) where he broke free from zelda’s control, covered parts of the entire map in his calamity goo (the black/red smegma you see in the divine beasts and around hyrule castle) and maybe even corrupted several previously harmless npcs. that would be more of a zelda game moment imo 🤷🏼‍♂️
    also, you live in new york state? nice, east coast gang represent (i’m from maryland)!

    Amazing video. I actually remember really hoping for Ghirahim to get into Smash 4, and the real reason for that was that I felt that would influence the Zelda devs to add him to the group of characters that keep incarnating in each game such as Zelda, Impa, Link, Beetle even. I just loved his role as a foil for link so much beyond just having the final boss guy laugh at you a few times before you get to the end. (I agree though that Wind Waker Ganondorf is perfection though) But that didn't end up happening sadly, and it was my biggest dissapointment with Breath of the Wild. You make a really good point for why they made Ganon so lacking but it worked way too well in my opinion. I enjoyed the game a lot but I never actually ended up going to Hyrule Castle and fighting Ganon. Everytime I looked over at it I just said "meh" and kept looking elsewhere for more fun things to find. Eventually just seeing the ending on youtube a while afterwards and not having any interest in seeing it for myself.

    Mother 2/Earthbound Spoilers
    As someone who couldn't finish BOTW due to not really enjoying the game(idk maybe i'll go back to it and try again) and hearing you describe Calamity Ganon, it almost seems like they designed him to be similar to Giygas, a final boss entity that throughout the game is referenced but never really seen until the fight so you only know that they are the bad guy that is negatively impacting the world of Eagleland. I think where Giygas succeeds in this method compared to calamity ganon is due to not only the multiple previous appearances of ganon/dorf compared to giygas appearing only in mother 1 and 2 but also how since you never seen Giygas in earthbound, you can't really know how they would look or act thus when you battle them, the battle background looks like it came out of a horror movie and the dialogue(especially when you use brainshock on Giygas) is freaky. while Calamity Ganon is a tough boss to defeat with little to no personality to create interest in the character, Giygas isn't really created as a challenge(especially if you know what to do to defeat him) but rather is a major part of the story of the mother 1/2 story about growing up and seeing the world in the perspective of a child and facing trauma(there's cults, many Mr. Saturns get enslaved, major characters get kidnapped etc..)
    TL;DR. Calamity ganon shares some similarities to Giygas but doesn't successfully pull it off due the ending not having a good pay off and past incarnations of Ganon/Ganondorf or other main antagonists in Zelda not being designed and similar ways.

    I dont think botw wants to be like oot. Theres no urge of link to beat gannon, cause as soon you wake you can beat him or you can long for the last minute of his battle, not even needing master sword. Botw pass a more sentimental message. Where im oot theres is this desperate times and urge to defeat the evil, hyrule in botw was always hopelles and in need, they were never shure of nothing the only hold was the shure of each one suporrting each other(the champions) and their fall at the end. Link and Zelda conquering back their land and finding themselfs show this as well and is really breathtaking. This game is not about the kingdom but the people in the kingdom. And gannon was always there, reasuring his presence, not a surprise factor as in oot.
    So botw main message is of a depreessing tone to glampsses pf hope. As in oot is a peaceful tone passing for mass destruction. Gannons roles fullfill right in each game. They are diferent games and *villains*
