I'm recommending the Jones h-bar to lots of our customers. The version with the 2.5-inch rise along with the long sweep of the bars provides a very comfortable upright position that many riders want.
I purchased a Rivendell A.Homer.Nilsen with the Albatross bars instead of the noodle bars as I am want to stay upright and more comfortable on my58 cm frame. I am in my mid fifties so I am not as flexible anymore. I will use this bike for randonneuring and commuting and I think this is the bar for me. Love your videos and discussions. Cheers and I hope something good happens to you every day.
I like the Ritchey kyote bars. I have them on two bikes, both tourers, but one configured for off/all road and the other a road bike but can go anywhere provided there's no mud.The bars are cut down to suit and I find them extremely comfortable.
Schwinn duo sport tandem with kid stoker adapter and albatross. Cannondale tandem with Jones H bars. Other 10 singles are various Nitto and Jones H bars.Enjoy the ride.
The bars on the old Schwinn coaster brake bikes. (Same vintage as my Huffy/Monarch). I liked the look of them over the wider spread on my own bike. I never put much thought to it (coveting my neighbor’s bike bars) but after this episode I guess I SHOULD have. 🤣. Thanks for the rundown on bike bars! Who knew there were so many flavors!!
My first bike was a 3-speed Schwinn Racer (late 1950's.) Looking back at those (narrower) bars, I can certainly see where the Albatross came from. It was comfortable then and the Albatross is really hard to beat now!
For strictly road touring I’m all about the Choco norm, I like that it’s very flat coming from the stem providing yet another place to put my hands. HOWEVER! Albatross all the way for all rounder riding. I have them on a Joe Appaloosa, Clem L and and an old Schwinn Cimarron (my first bike, bought new off the showroom floor in 1989). I do some pretty aggressive single track with chromo Albas and they’re awesome.
For my road bike, I inherited a Cinelli Campione del Mondo, and I've got it set up with the drops ramped down so the ends of the bars are vertical-level. I love the look of it, and I've gotten used to the way it feels (it took some getting-used-to). For the monstercross, I've got a Nitto 105, for a much more relaxed posture (when I ride to town, I use that bike). I also have an old Sakae in the garage that I just take down and feel every now and then (I loves me some machined aluminum...).
I have never used drop bars. Don’t know why. Jones bars and Moloko bars seem right to me. Again, don’t know why. I mean, I love an upright position. I stack the head tube with a fist full of spacers. I didn’t cut a cm off off the Bridge Club fork…
I’m constantly going back and forth between the Albatross and Noodles on my Hilborne. I would like to get another upright bar with a lot less sweep back and than the Albatross though.
I've been playing with a set of the Redshift Kitchen Sink bars for a bit now. While I like the overall design ( I didn't get the one with the front extension,) I'm still not sure I like the top grips. They do add a lot of flatish real estate but they are fairly hard. Even with Fitzik gel pads, I'm having trouble getting comfortable on the top grips. Add to that how tremendously thick everything becomes when you wrap the bar, I'm still debating with myself. But the end grips, the rubberish hand grips are extraordinarily good! I was shocked at how comfortable they are on a shallow ramped drop bar that is up above seat level! I would even use them on a Albatross! So I redid the installation of the upper grips on the Kitchen Sink Bars on my Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen. I put the Fitzik Gel Pads on top of them and paid more attention to the placement of the Redshift grips. Wrapped with Fitzik Tempo Microtex Bondcrush Bartape, the bars are pretty comfortable. I'm running them on a 30mm Analog Right stem but may have to use a stem with more extension as the Kitchen Sink bars (47cm) have a 7 degree sweep back. But so far, using the whole setup is working well. My only negative comment would be that I am unable to run the derailleur cables through the lower handgrips. I'm running bar-end shifters and will have to use twine to cinch them in just in front of the hand grips.
Favorite drop bars are the Ritchey VentureMax XL with the ergo top and bio-bend drop. I haven’t tried a lot of others but this replaced my Salsa Cowchippers (?) on my Fargo. I’ve looked at putting the Koyote or Terminal on my diy Ebike. Will check out the Albatross too. When will the shop be open next week? I’m planning to drive down from our vacation condo in Bonito Springs one day. May also try to Kayak or Paddle Board while in Naples.
Nitto noodle is for sure a good bar. I don’t really mind a deep drop. If I need to be in the drops it’s either to get outta a strong headwind or I’m trying to catch up with someone. I do like the cowchipper. Had that on a Surly1x1. I thought for sure you were gonna go Moloko. 😂 Planning on a bridge club bar swap soon?
@@ThePsychicDerailleur while I have your ear, I bought a silver triple off of you a few months ago. My new Gus finally arrived and I have the rough build finished. I’ll tag you on Instagram photos ASAP
In your fist pic of the Albatross, did you use cloth tape to tape the bends? I just happen to have the same style handlebars and esi grips but can't figure out how to wrap the bends. (how do I start and stop the wrap)
I would usually double wrap the bend. Start on the inside, wrap toward the grip, then double back to where you started. Use whatever finishing method (twine, tape etc) you like. Shellac if ya want and you’re done.
@@daffodil2067 I get it now. You have to understand that normally by the time I finish shooting these things I forget what I said. I’m already thinking about the next one. 🤪

Salsa Cowchipper in a 46. Nice and wide. Lots of real estate. I really like how the flair places my hands in a more natural position in the hoods.
The albatross is my favorite bar! I even biked across the country with those bars
Outstanding

I love my Velo-Orange Tourist bar with 60* of sweep, 580mm wide, and 70mm of rise is super comfortable for me.

Never had the chance to try the Albatross. But the VO GRANOLA handlebar is fantastic. Really surprised that I don't see it more.
Surly corner bar, and Jones are my current favorites, the dimension arc bar is a favorite low budget bar
I have a Nitto Grand Randonneur 45 cm. Love the slight rise and a bit of flare in the drops. Super comfy as well.
I replaced a Nitto drop bar with the Surly Truck Stop drop bar and I love it.
Great bar. And sold by someone so special 😆
I have the Moloko on my Disc Trucker, the Jones on my 1X1 and a 2 inch riser on my Stump Jumper. I like the Jones the best.

The bars on some of those old Schwinns were really good. Narrow but good.

Favorite non-drops: Nitto Albatross

My wrists hurt just thinking about those old drop bars.
Albatross is also my favorite handlebar. I will probably give the VO Crazy Bar a try at some point because I have it sitting around.
I went from Albatross, which I still have on one of my bikes, to Billy Bar. Pretty much the same as Albatross but with a little more real estate
+1 on the Albatross bar.
Happy Monday
And to you!

I love the velo orange nouveau randonneur bars
Jones H Bar for sure
I put jones h bars on 2 of my bikes and love them..
Best bars I've used are the Surly open bars.
Alba's, I have thought about straying but it always a short-term thing!
My fave bars are the Nitto Bosco bar and the Tumbleweed Persuader bar. I even put the Persuader on my Trek Fuel EX.
You madman! 😉
velo orange crazy bar.
worth noting that the albatross usually needs a longer stem
Correct. For most people. I’ve covered that in at least two previous videos.
I’m constantly going back and forth between the Albatross and Noodles on my Hilborne. I would like to get another upright bar with a lot less sweep back and than the Albatross though.
Check out the Surly Terminal bar
@@ThePsychicDerailleur I’ve been putting off changing over to a 31.8mm set up.
Nitto Noodles, Nitto b809 cross, salsa cowchippers

Nah. A good amount of those parts are likely going to end up on the Hardtack.

The groceries? No. 😆 I think the only thing left are those kitty litter panniers. Maybe the saddle.
