Thanks for all the great lessons, how about some Swamp Rock, like Fogerty's Old Man Down the Road?
I really enjoy your lessons, they are so thorough and professional ;)
Would you like to do one on Six Blade Knife by Dire Straits?
Hi Andy. I've had the pleasure of playing with Lizzy on many occasions, and I played with Philip on his last gig alive sadly. We were very good friends. The offbeat or "pushed" chords as they liked to call them, are a feature of a lot of their songs. The whole harmony guitar thing happened accidentally for Lizzy. They were recording and Brian was "tracking" a part that Scott had played, but he came in at the wrong place, and it was a perfect harmony line to Scott's part, so they started working on it and the rest is history!

G'day Andy, mate, you are definitely better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick! How about a lesson on Whiskey in the Jaro! Not that insipid Metallica version, but the Thin Lizzy with the amazing Eric Bell, and how the hell does he get his tone! Eric just about defines the adage, tone is in the fingers! Goodonya mate!
I grew up in Portadown as a teenager in the 70’s. Thin Lizzy were the gods of rock to me along with Rory Gallagher.
Rip rory and phil
Me too.
I'm from south Wales valleys I know Portadown well Ive got Family out There.

@@willpayne6249 It was once known as ,” The hub of the North” because of the railway repair yard that had a turntable that could turn those old steam engines around and send them in different directions.
Brian Downey is just the best swing/shuffle rock drummer.
This song is PERFECT. One of the Greatest Rock songs of all time. There’s a reason we’re all still rockin out and jammin out to it all these years and generations later. It’s amazing 👏👏👏😎👌🇮🇪
Amazing that nearly everything you teach is something I wanted to learn. Great teacher.
Hands down you are my favorite guitar instructor on RUclips. I've been playing for 35 years and have learned so much from you. Thank you !
bocobob i agree , he is a great player and his rig sounds good . So many lessons on you tube are dog shit . An excellent lesson series
@@MrPissed1 Most of the biggest tutorial channels are for people who have been playing less than 2 years. Most will simplify parts just to get to a campfire level. Marty music and andy guitar do this a lot, justin guitar is a little more accurate.
This channel is by far the most record accurate.
Hands down the best. Hate him !!

SHUT up and PLAY is the Best, your right.@@drdre4397
I never understood how to play this song until u showed me, I love the chords and the changes. The c sharp minor 7 is so awesome. NOW I CANNOT STOP PLAYING IT!!!!
Scott Gorham was also a very underrated lizzy guitar player
Scott was really the backbone of that band, he was the guy playing all the colorful fills and licks and played some blistering solos too
I really appreciate you Andy, your thoughtful insight and narratives surrounding the bands, the music, and assorted trivia add to your expertise on precise duplication of the sound tracks. Your historical contribution to the recorded performances will ensure this music, that so many of us love, will be accurately preserved. Thank you and many blessings your way.
I forgot to say great lesson Andy, and as someone who has played the song with Lizzy many times, your lesson - as usual - is 100% accurate!
You've played with Thin Lizzy?
Your tutorials are the best. I'm not such a rock guy, so I only need a few of your lessons, but MAN ... you really are a great player and a great teacher. Thin Lizzy was one rock band that caught my ear. Never could figure out what was going on with those power-chords. Thanks for cracking the code.
Classic guitar line up was Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham. Saw them 5 times. What a band .
I saw them open up for Queen at the old Boston Garden, I believe it was in 1977. Up until that time I was only familiar with The Boys Are Back in Town. Phil Lynott took center stage. He used his pick guard as a reflector for a spot light that deflected off it and into the crowd. It’s the first time I heard Cowboy Song, Jailbreak and The Emerald. I bought the Jailbreak album the next day. I consider still one of the best Rock albums of all time.
@@michaeltobin9142Same here. Back to back shows in the old Boston Gardens. I attended both nights.😉
Finally.. 40yrs later give or take THANKS MUCH for a GREAT LESSON ! answered a lot of questions SIMPLE is the formula
This is the ONLY lesson on the internet that cohesively showed me how to play the outro solo. Thanks to you i wont go to band rehearsal tomorrow looking like a shmuck.Thank you sir.
Many on youtube can show the notes to a song, but I really like that you nail the sound, the feel and the subtle stuff the makes the song what it is rather than a mechanical amateurish rendition.
...been listening to this song forever...always wanted to learn it...decided the other day when I heard it on the radio to pick up the guitar and figure it out...worked on it for a while...looked it up here...found your lesson...wish I had the Internet in the late 60s-early 70s when I started...great lesson - as usual - ...thanks AGAIN!
You’ve gained a new subscriber!!! I’ve watched a handful of your lessons, your ability to break material down and explain what’s happening is very helpful. Thank you 🙏
You play that thing like no other!! Just crazy to see you break that song down so precise, I'm just stunned! Beautiful but more difficult than it looks. That's real strumming the hell out of a Gibson!! Amazing!!
Best I have ever seen! Love this song...i will be watchin and playin this often...or at least trying to!
Im sorry i keep leaving comments but everytime i learn another song from you i just gotta say thanks...you are the best man. Cant wait to go rock this this summer, me n my buddy we got it down..thanks to you

Dude. Your the nan... Thank you for sharingyourtalent... I've been playing 30 years and I love to watch your videos.
It IS a GREAT song. Heavy and happy. Thank for the tutorial-wish I'd had it back in the day when I was playing in bands
Your lessons are always so precise and thorough. You are by far my favorite sub scribed utube teacher. Thanks for this lesson. I've heard that song for over 30 years and I've never really listened to it till I just played it now I like it even more
Another killer lesson added to the library Andy....amazing and "right on the money." Best bar none on YT.
Yup
This is such a great song. Thanks for showing it properly! It's a very non-traditional rock song, yet it forever has its place in classic rock. very cool tune.
Hey Rick, I totally agree. It's more like a big band, jazz tune but it has a definite rock attitude. One of my favorites, it always reminds me of summer. cheers
Andy
Jeez I'm going to go ahead and give you likes for every person who requested a different song because they must have LIKED THIS ONE. Great job, thanks for this lesson!
How can ya not like what this man does
this a great song to cover it never fails to fill the dance floor !
Fantastic as usual
Great lesson. I've been wanting to learn this one for years but never took the time to. Now I'm motivated to do it. Recently bought a LP, so this'll be the first song I learn on it!
Great lesson! I knew most of the chords, but it's those small details that really makes up the song. Thanks!
Really digging your lessons brother! Good stuff!🤘
Thank you. Your a great teacher at showing songs. I got to work on this 1.You say it's easy for you maybe. Always up for a challenge. Which the guitar will give you in so many ways. Thanks again.
Outstanding. This is how you tube lessons are to be made. GREAT JOB and Thank you so much,
Thanks for the lesson. Another song that is just what I needed. Great channel, mint tutorials! 🇨🇦
Excellent lesson! Very comprehensive. Also like how you presented with black backdrop & clothes drawing more attention to the guitar. 🤟
One of the all time freaking awesome rock n roll songs.
ALWAYS wanted to work this song out most of my playing life. Thank you!
Same!
Does superbness have no limits? - nope - no limits, another great lesson.
The cowboy song! One of the Thin Lizzy greats
Yesss id hit like twice if i could
And Jail break!!!
Emerald is good
Awesome job!! Always loved this song!!
Good job! You show how to play it without the boring note-by-note stuff - what most of us need is a clue and you give it to us. Thanks.
agreed!
Totally agree!!!
Great lesson. Fun, energetic song that'll be easy to remember once I can get it down. Thank you.
Amazing, two minutes in and you've already learnt the intro taught so well that even Michael Buble could do this! :)
Brilliant lesson, well explained and precise. Excellent video.
Great tutorial mate, thanks for taking the time. All the best.
Great to tribute one of the most influential bands in rock, saw them eight times!
Nice
Awesome lesson man thanks. I love your instruction. I learned this and “from the beginning” by ELP from you so far
Love your approach and your son selections!! Rock On!!
Excellent Teacher. Much respect 🙏
I can't thank you enough for this channel
Thanks for a great lesson while having such a laid back yet enthusiastic demeanor. Just wanted to remind you about the Allman Bros. as one of the pioneers of dual lead guitars.
Glad I came back to this , awesome lesson , thank you .
Thank you for this lesson. You are fantastic.
You are a gifted guitar instructor ! - greets & rock on, Andreas
You're awesome! So helpful on this and on Double Vision. Thank you.
Can't get anything done for watching these fantastic lessons and correcting years of mistakes ! Lovely guy, superb player, amazing teacher! Ps, I love / loved Gary Moore,,learned to play from his music but the diamond in the crown of early Thin Lizzy was Scottish born Brian Robertson,18/19 he old prodigy that toured the classic Live n Dangerous album,,check out "still in love with you " .Respect and many thanks.
George Wheelwright
correct.
Great sound chords and melody, congratulations, it's the best lesson for me,
Really good work. I see alot of guitarist on here that you can tell have only been playing a few years, they're hand placement looks awkward and they haven't got the chords right. I'm in my 38th year of playing, but if I need a quick reference to something I go to your channel since you've already put the work in lol.Your channel is the best in guitar tutorial on RUclips IMO.
You know you said that F power chord is the money chord. I think getting all those chord voicings correct is money because that's what makes this song so special. And you definitely nailed all the chord voicings because I have a good ear, and when I play it the way you're teaching here, I hear exactly what I've been listening to since I was kid. I'm adding this to my favorites. Thanks.
For years I heard this song and never realised how much nuance and groove was in this song funny enough the band where gonna can this for the jailbreak album until a manager told them not to. More impressive is that at the time of writing this Brian Robertson was 19 and Scott Gorham was a convert from bass and had only been playing guitar seriously for a couple years. Both where largely self taught with guitar. Just shows how much skill and creativity they had.
Nice work. I can't believe how easy this progression is. I always thought it would be more difficult.
This is the first time I got the post, b4 the email. I like it when you play your Les Paul, great sound. I also like, a lot your Across the Universe and Eleanor Rigby, but prefer the electric. I use z906 speakers, and your sound is crystal clear. Great videos, and the best sound around. Thanks again!
I can always count on you to include the cool little details that everyone else leaves out...that's why yours are the best song lessons on the internet imo! Any chance you could do a lesson on The Cowboy Song off that same album? Or any other song off that album for that matter!
Great lesson! Dude, thank you for this. And youre an awesome player!
Great cover. Best iv come across.Glad I found this channel. Pleas cover more Thin lizzy in the future.
Love it. Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to show us!
Sir I consider you the very best, and have learned massive amounts from you...for that I thank you...After I learned this one I dabbled into jazz and discovered string muting...the F# (F#m7) is clearly 2nd frets barred down minus high E..mute A string with wrap around middle finger on top ring finger on 3 middle strings ...a slash chord ...this chord also is used on High Dm7...this jazz chord makes it work out perfect...thanks again for what you do
Hello Guy, still around here trying to learn. I really appreciate your support Thank you so very much, Great song, 👍
Wow! I want to practice that rising harmony part and those thirds just by themselves. I think that would make a great exercise.
Great lesson, Nice instructional video.I love playing this song with my other guitar player, Thanks Again, Tad.East Coast Productions.
I was a big Thin Lizzy Fan. Saw them 4 or 5 times while living in Germany in the early 80s.
Sir you are the best.
beautifully done man the best on youtube so far, can you do Jail Break? thanks for sharing.
You killed it, as usual! I played that song for years and made it much more difficult than necessary… You always make it seem so easy! How about Molly hatchet flirting with disaster?
great suggestion!
Mike Wilson thats going back to the Southern rock three guitar attack. Those were great days. Molly hatchet flirting with disaster was actually the first concert I ever saw.
Molly Hatchet is the best band EVER
That would be good, but how about Gator Country or Bounty Hunter or their version of Dreams I'll Never See first?
David Naidu Guitar their version of Dreams is the best! I like even better than the Allman Bros studio version, and Gregg wrote it!!
Awesome as usual Andy!!
You are great at tutorials!
Great playing and explanation of one of their signature songs. Here in the US there was only a short time when Lizzy was being promoted by US radio stations. Maybe '76 to ' 77, then it just dropped off. Don't understand why, so many other bands at the time were Lizzy fans, they toured with Rush originally . There's no lack of talent and song writing. Thanks for taking the time to break down the song.
'76 was such a strange time for Music, "The Boys are Back" was a Top 40 Pop Tune...however Thin Lizzy was far from a Pop Group. Jailbreak got way more airplay on the "Hard Rock' stations that played Zep, Heart, Rush, Deep Purple, etc. No Top 40 station would play another cut off of the Jailbreak Album or any following Albums, they were played on the Hard Rock Stations though. '76 was Disco, Top 40, Country, Jazz and Hard Rock and Radio Stations stuck to their Market Group's Playlist. In just couple years "New Wave" would come along and have their own "Play List" Stations. Sorry for the long winded comment, but I grew up in LA and my best buddy was studying "Broadcasting" he DJ'd/Produced/Managed Stations all over the LA area...oh yeah, we still had AM Radio then too.
Great tutorial this! Feel more confident playing it down at Dino's Bar'n'Grill now. Thanks!
I think that I might actually be able to pull this one off! great song! thanks so much!
Fantastic lesson.
...nice job ...great tune. ....RIP Thin Lizzy...
I think you explained some of the magic of this awesome tune ... off then on .. indeed
Spot on lesson, thank you!
