@@DerFlanagan i agree. as unhealthy as it may sound, my massive sense of responsibility and guilt for my friends and family kept me around for years. whilst there are obvious flaws to this thinking, i actually think that as last resorts go, it was good enough. even if it doesnt particularly comfort you at the time, it keeps you around until your life undergoes the inevitable change for the better. also, as im guessing shes a teenager, i hope she now knows how much better life gets after a shitty time as a 15 etc. yr old... like, unimaginably better.

@@melissam597 Really? Would you be interested in explaining how? Because I'd like to know. It's been a long time since I've seen that movie, so I mostly recall the plot and characters. I do recall the antagonist had a few mental health issues, which caused her to be fixated on certain types of people.
I don't believe that should be a reason for thinking it villainizes and stigmatizes mentally ill people. In fact, I kinda remember thinking her family didn't really understand the level of help she needed.
Therefore, as in real life, I believe audiences can understand that the antagonist isn't the antagonist because she's mentally ill. She's the antagonist because she's putting the protagonist's life (and others' lives) in danger. And while we feel that she needs additional help, it's not to be at the expense of someone's life. So, being aware is the best way to help both parties.
That's how I see it. However, you may have a point of view I've not thought about. So, I would love to read it if you're willing to share it

I watched this as a kid and I thought my college roommate was gonna kill me.
I don't remember watching this movie, but more scenes I see, the more familiar it gets. I guess it's one those movies that I watched once, and it buried itself deep down in my memory, until I forgot about it.

To that girl and to everyone in the comment section who struggle with depression and suicide:
I struggled with depression for 16 years. I had to drop out of school because of it. It took a massive toll on me and made it hard for me to shape myself because it was going on all through my childhood and teen years but I've made it through. I have been out of depression steadily for 4 years almost 5 with only one small relapse 3 years ago (who just lasted 2 months). I made it through. It's possible. You often here about people struggle with depression but you don't often here about people who made it through. I did. So you can make it and things do and will look and be better. It's possible for the pain and suffering to end and to have a somewhat normal happier life, to be able to enjoy little things and see the positive. I promise it's possible and you can achieve it. If I did you can do it too, I'm not special. Sometimes it's still hard because life has its up and down but not having depression is a very different outlook and the hardships are so much easier to go through because you can focus and imagine what happiness, confidence and being healthy looks like.
Anything out of the box that really helped you? I've been struggling with severe depression for seventeen consecutive years now and I'm exhausted. Not giving up yet, but I'm absolutely sick and tired of the standard well-intentioned advices (talk to friends, sports, eat fruits, standard shrink things).

@@merry_christmas Hmm beside the standard shrinks, friend, eating healthier, drinking more water and go out in the sun more that are things that do help a lot...I'd say focus on confidence and getting a creative outlet/passion. Confidence is something that I built up only after getting out of depression but that I wish I could have earlier because it may have helped me more.
So for that I recommend self-compassion a lot, being gentle with yourself and switch to positive thoughts instead of negative. Obviously it's not easy but it does wonder if you manage at one point to switch that little voice in your head telling you that you're trash and useless because you're doing nothing with your day into "So what...just because I wasn't able to get out of day doesn't mean I haven't done anything. I looked at videos and it made me laugh and that is genuine valid or I learnt something on wikipedia..might seem uninteresting and stupid right now but maybe trivia facts about idk penguins can actually help me later on".
Tough love and intimidation to accomplish things do not work and that's science. Positive Reinforcement works better so maybe don't do positive affirmation in front of the mirror (that never worked for me but it's a thing) but you can still celebrate small accomplishment and praise yourself for even just managing to take a shower instead of bashing yourself for other things.
Oh also resolutions. Resolutions helped me and still helps me a lot. Because it's easy to be stuck into our small perspective and feel like we're doing nothing with our life but in the span of a year it's actually huge. Resolutions can be really helpful but you need to do it right. So I can't stress that enough, start small and it's important to be extremely specific (so like exercice for 1 hour, do 40 pumps, have 1 hour where I don't feel sad). If you're not specific and does something vague, the meaning will change over the year and you'll end up with nothing being accomplished because you keep pushing your objective. So if you have the objective "Be Fit" instead of specific well you might feel like that's losing 3 pounds when you write it but in 7 months you might have lost 5 pounds and feel like you're still not fit so you can't check the resolution when if you had specific it would have been done.
But if you stay specific and put achievable goals. Resolutions does wonder and give you something to focus on. Also it's important to see that at the end the resolutions you haven't completed aren't failures but just ones that you'll re-use for the next year with more time to do them until you either do or they're no longer relevant.
In one of the more standard advice but I'll still elaborate because it's important: Check your nutrients. Having nutrients deficiency like Vitamin D or Iron Deficiency can make you feel more tired than you already are and add to your depression a lot. I had Iron and Magnesium deficiency, I took supplements for it and it helped a bit. Obviously it's not what made me get out of depression but it made me feel lighter. I don't get depressive episodes but I do have periods of feeling very tired and bummed after a long time of not taking the supplements (I take them once a year, prescribed by a doctor of course).
Now last thing. Passion and Creative Outlet. Creative Outlet literally saved me because it's a great way to somewhat healthily get outside of yourself what you feel inside. So instead of self-harm, write a novel, play guitar, freestyle a dance or a rap. Design clothes, Paint something. Idk what you like but something creative. It's super important and helped me and my friends who went through that so much. Don't be scared of being bad, it doesn't matter, it's just for you. No one is gonna judge or see it, it's just the process of turning what's dark inside of you into something that's structured and artistic. If you're really not creative maybe write letters to yourself or a diary. Don't maintain it everyday because damn that's a pain. But from time to time it can be good to write down what you're feeling.

I've watched this video many times, but this is the first time I've actually resonated with the message in the beginning. We've all been going through a pretty tough time for the past year. The only thing I can count on to make me happy are Dylan's videos. When I'm watching them, it is the only time I don't stress about anything, or when I don't think sad thoughts. Dylan's videos are truly one of the only things that help me get up in the morning.
