A suggestion would be to attach the wiring to the side of the boards in the attic. This will prevent them being stepped on or something placed on them.
Yes sir that is a good suggestion. I wanted to mount it overhead but the distance I went with the adapter and controller came up short and tight so this was my last resort. I didn’t want to redo the setup or add a receptacle but I may have to if I need someone to service up there for a utility. Thank you for your suggestion
Interesting....pretty sure I left a comment on this video about custom-making extension cables. Seems to have been deleted? Was about to update it with more suggestions for people to try and now it's gone.
Hi sorry, I do don’t delete any comments. I leave raw, helpful, non helpful comments, or suggestions for everyone to see so they can benefit from it in any way
You can do that in both finger sketch and DIY finger sketch. Turn off background color, bring down the speed to none, add your fill color and then save it. Good luck
First off excellent job with the wiring, but I have a quick question.. can I cut off excess lights at the end of a string "not reattaching them" without damaging it
Awesome information. I am in the middle of install and need to make 2 y jumps, both with a immediate light run on one end and 20 ft extensions on the other side of the Y. Assuming i splice an extension midway on each 20 ft run to get the booster, should this work
JB So appreciate your videos. Excellent instruction! I would love to get your advice on the proper install approach for the Govee lights when I have dentil molding on the front of the house. What will give it the best “look” ?
Yes sir. You can do that 2 ways of doing it. Under color, then advanced settings, then pick which individual lights you want and pick your stream like clockwise or counterclockwise with speed. Other areas is in DIY. Both can be saved. Take a look at this detailed video of the app ruclips.net/video/KWp5gK0OZwU/видео.htmlsi=0jz48r1VSqhlVygb Thanks for watching
Thanks for the info….very helpful! Looks as if only three 48 foot sections can run together based on product description. How can I get the 4th string to connect?
Thank you for watching and for your comment. The back of each light has a VHB 3M pad so I peel the sticker off and place it directly centered of the peek. Of course only the edges will stick so do not move on to the next one until that one is done. You have to place the slack of the rest of your lights on your ladder so it doesn’t pull down while you work on it. Then place two clips tight, one on each side of the light to keep it there. To answer your question about them being evenly space is-good planning. Take a strand up there to the soffit and do a dry run of how they will look, don’t peel off anything. If 6 fit to the right from center to end, of course six will not fit to the left since you took up the center already so 5 will go to the left. From the first light go center to center of the light 17”. One full strand has 12 lights total. Hope this clarifies it up a bit. Thanks
Hi there, thanks for watching. No problem. Yes I do. The wire should be between 18-22 gauge wire. I use 18-3 for my videos and the link to the product is in my description. If your going to reattach the strands back with their original white strand then follow the markings on the white wire. Stripe with stripe, solid with solid and writing with writing. I have a video with these instructions. Title is Custom Govee Install
@jbsdiytv Thank you for your reply, I ordered 150 ft, and was reading that one power source is recommended for 150ft, I've just measured and will need to add, some extra length about 15 ft extension to get around some parts will I have a problem, with only running one power source?
@ I live in S.Fla, so our sofits are concrete connected by a wood facia. I currently have hooks hanging on the inside part of the facia. I was thinking of putting the govee lights there, but from watching your videos, in order to get that dome effect, it needs to be about 3.5 inches away from the house.
@ChristopherCabrera-u5f 😬 I see. Only thing with my knowledge I’m aware of, need to use a masonry the size of your concrete screws. Then use the concrete screws to drill them in after. I would use 3D mounts to make it look clean
@@jbsdiytv Forgive for my newbie questions. When you concrete screws, do you mean concrete anchors and using the screws that came with the elite kit? Any recommendations on 3D mounts you are referring to?
Great video man, Thanks! Quick question. I need to cut & splice in wires to create a 15' gap between 2 lights in the middle of a string. I'm concerned this will be too much of a gap and power will drop on the other side. Do you think this will be an issue? And if so, since the 12' Govee extension has a "driver or booster" on it, what are your thoughts on splicing an extra 3' of wire into the extension, and then splicing that modified extension into the middle of a string of lights? Thanks again
Yes I’ve done add 3ft to a 12ft extension using 18/3 wire. We did this while making 3-4 custom jumps that were 2-3ft within the install. This was the 1st generation lights. Now with the pros, you can do a little more with them when it comes to jumps.
@@jbsdiytv right on. I need to jump from the 1st story of my house up to the 2nd story to continue my run, and where I need to make that jump is in the middle of a string of lights. Do you think I can cut this string in half and splice the 15' extension into the middle? Cheers
@D.Demers745 yes using the factory connection to connect at least the side of the 12ft extension that has that small box on it. It will be hard to splice near that but do leave that on the extension
@@jbsdiytv So if I were to cut 5 lights off the end of a string, and then cut the connector off that piece & splice it onto the end of my newly shortened string on the house, it should give me a factory fitting to connect the side of the extension with the box on it. Do you think if I were to splice the remaining 5 lights onto the other side of my extension between the extra 3' of wire I added and the factory connection, I'd be able to connect the rest of the strings to it and everything would function? And would I still be able to control those lights with the app? Thanks again for your time dude!
I have 150 ft run but the power source is in the middle. If I use 2 separate systems can I configure the one to run in the opposite direction so that scenes run in the right direction when grouped?
If you don’t mind, Please reach us on our FB messenger @jbsholidaylightingsanantonio. I will ask a few more questions and then I will circle back here so the viewers have an understanding of the question. Mention your RUclips handing
I’m installing 2 150ft stands on my house.. since they can not be connected, can they be programmed on the app together so if using some light settings they are in rhythm?
Hello and thank for your question. Yes they can be programmed together. Go to home in the app, then hit the plus symbol, then with select type on the screen then select same-model group control. You will see two model controllers in there so select both. If you haven’t figured it out, I will have a video coming out soon that goes in depth with the app. Thank you
I am assuming when installing 2 150ft strips like this the power would need to start at the end of the first 150ft piece? To keep the lights going in a group? Will they each start at the same time or will the second one start as the first one finishes?@@jbsdiytv
Will you be using 150ft on top and 150ft on the bottom? Or is this other 150ft working from the back to the front. There are many scenarios that could take place with your amount of lights. You can message me IG @jbsholidayandchristmaslighting if you would like to discuss your layout
How did you custom or adjust the specific amount of lights to each corner? Is there a video? Becuase i know the 100 ft is a vague measure and to hide some of the lights that do go symmetrically with the angle of the roof.
Hi there. Thanks for your comment. Yes, we prefer what is recommended by Govee(2-4 inches). We had someone request to hide it completely behind the fascia and that was 12” out. They didn’t like how it looked because it didn’t match how the box looks. This was explained before the install but they wanted to hide the white wiring. If you have them out that far, then you won’t get the wall washing triangle effect. That’s the selling point. Hope this helps
At 6:18, you mention if you decide not to splice. Do you mean you run another power adapter/interface on this run? If you do that, do the multiple controllers not work together as one? I have 400' to run, I will need to use at least 3 of these.
Hi and thanks for your comment. I mentioned I was new to the product and did not want to splice the the connections so I made a hole big enough to pass through it. It’s always best to only use on controller for installs because the Bluetooth and WiFi are excellent. Yes you can group multiple devices and they will sync together. I just had enough knowledge to do one device and get everything spliced mainly at the jumps
Hi JB, I’m doing a long extension to my house using a pro version, my question is what color from 18g wire did you connect to the color splice connectors kit from govee? TIA!
Do you know if there is anyway to get another power block as I have 4 strands left and would love to use them without having to buy a 50ft kit. Thank you
Hi there and thanks for watching. Govee does not sale them separately. You will have to go on to Facebook Govee groups and Reddit and see if any of the members have some left
Can you run a three way splice? Or will it make it impossible to program the colour patterns? I’m trying to avoid long runs of extensions. How long of an extension can one run on these before experiencing flickering on the end? Thanks in advance and your videos have been a great resource for me.
Thank you for your support to the channel. You can run a 3 way splice but it will not individually respond. They will mirror each other. 100ft kit you can add 3 extra light strands. We have installed the 100ft kit most like this…3 strands, 3ft custom jump, 2 strands, 12ft Govee extension, 2 strands, 12ft Govee extension, 2strands
I have 2 runs that may exceed 12ft. I was actually thinking about extending the Govee extensions and hopefully the boosters on them may help as opposed to just straight wire. I have a 150ft kit and it came with two extensions. The only other way is to do a three way and not retain the programable functions. We will see how it goes. Thanks for the reply.
The presets will work but if you do segmented or advanced settings they will act the same. The spot lights for accent lighting everyone would like to use for the whole year, those will not be individually be programmable
The clips that you recommended have screws. Did you use those screws and screw them into hardy board. I see you have Hardy board that you are putting these lights into and I'm just curious as screwing into hardy board is a "B!t(h". Please advise as I want to ensure that the don't fall down with just the 3m tape on the back as you showed. Also what wire did you get to extend the lengths when you have to create space instead of wasting lights please? Thank you advance for replying.
I use vans. Almost the same texture of a skateboard so it grips well. Are also very comfortable to wear. If you have a steep roof, I would recommend getting two small pitch hoppers. Be safe
I wish I had watched your video first. I tried to splice the 12 foot extension to make the cord shorter. And it wouldn't work after. I tried to put it back together with the original wire..and it still wont work. Did I just ruin the cord?
If you mixed the wires up then probably fried the data amp on that small box. Have you done a factory reset on your lights. Hold power button for 6 secs
Question! If I were to purchase a 100’ kit and later on down the road purchase the 50’ kit, could I add it onto the existing 100’ kit to now make it 150’ as “one” kit? I don’t wanna pay for a full 150’ kit right now …
Thank you for your comment. These are puck lighting and not strip. So don’t know if the app will control strip if you have programmed this model number to the puck. Just wanted to point that out before I explain. There are a few ways to do this so I’ll explain and let you test it out so you get the hang of it. First, go to the app and make sure your in the color button out of the four. You can pick the effects with the speed, background color and individually customizing each light to color and shutting them off or on. Once your done, save that as a snapshot by hitting the small green camera and name it. You can alway go back and set that when opening the app. Another way is in the DIY scenes. Once your there, go to the top right corner and hit the plus symbol. Name your DIY, start messing with the effects. In effects, there is a drop down arrow and you can pick fade, jumping, twinkle and so on. Once you like what you have created, apply and save it. You can create multiple diy’s and also share those with other users. There is a share symbol at the top right but first it will ask you if you would like to be a Savvy User. Hope this helps. I have a video coming out to go in depth with the app. Stay tune
I installed 7 strands with 2 extensions, extensions installed after the 3rd strand and another extension on 5th strand for a jump. The last 3 strands flickers. I tested it prior to installation and it is working. Thank you. I put 7 light segments on the app. Thoughts on how to fix it? All connection were installed well.
Disconnect from power and wait like 20 seconds. Then plug it back in. Then on the controller, press and hold the power button for 6 seconds till you see a white flash. If this doesn’t work then place 8 segments instead of 7 as a last option
@jbsdiytv does the 2 extension included in the count? So I have 2 extensions and 7 light strands. I still have 2 light strands I didn't install on the 150 foot non pro. I did unplug it for 10 mins 5 times. Press the button 4 x. I will try your recommendation and it might work. I will get back to you when I get back home Christmas day.
@@jbsdiytv wow what did I write there!!! lol sorry about that. I just ordered the 200’ pro and I have 2 stories and getting from my first story to my second story is going to be tricky if I plan on running from right to left? Do I just use a second controller on the second story and run it from right to left also? Or how do you do it? Do I run from right to left on first story then jump up to second story from the end on the left and run left to right on second story?
How do these compare to trim lights ? I was quoted for 190 feet $4500 which they use tracks too. Govee at about $450 for 150 feet cheaper but have to install
If you were to hire us to do 150ft Govee pro it will be $1200 labor before taxes. I’ve done a few installs where clients had that company and said they wish they went with a Govee install since they have that cone shape on the wall which Govee outdoor permanent lights are know for
@@jbsdiytv wish you were in the NEPA area. That’s so much more reasonable. I see trim lights though do use tracks to install but still it’s a lot more expensive
@efthimios yes that is correct. We are willing to travel if the cost is less than what they quoted you. You can reach us on our social platforms at the top and we can discuss it if you’re interested. Mention NEPA
I got a question for you I live in Las Vegas it gets really hot here and the plastic mounting squares that come with the elite package kind of worried that those will get weathered for the Second Story wondering what type of staple gun I could use to staple it into the eaves
Hi Tim that is a good question, yes sir that’s correct only for when you are ending with lights not in between as your installing. So if you know you’ll end with 3 lights then you will have to adjust some lights to get the 4th one in at the end. If you cut your strand during install and there are 3 or 7 lights, you’ll be ok as long as you bring them back together with your jump. Best way to check this theory is to go to segments in the app and you’ll see which 4 are controlled. Don’t end with odd numbers. Hope this answers your question.
@@jbsdiytv so if I am down to my last strand but I only need 9 lights out of the strands, I cannot cut the 9? It will have to be on the 10th ot the 8th light?
I see you have both light strip and the lights you just installed, how do they look like when they are both on? I did not like the clam shape shadow on the wall so I got the stip instead for more solid look (just my own preference ) OR strip didn’t last longer than you were hoping for so you replaced them with the permanent lights instead? Thank you 😊
Had the strip light first then installed the Govee to test out what I can do with them, troubleshooting the do’s and don’ts. I liked the Govee lights better than the strip but my preference as well. That’s why I started the channel to do diy projects and permanent lighting
@@jbsdiytv nice! Do u have a photo or video how they look like when both of them are on? If they still make that particular shadow from the lights? If not it’s totally fine ☺️
It should still work as I have used the 12’ extension and made a custom cord roughly 3-5ft to attach to it. You will be using two manufactured lines that amp the voltage to your lights so that’s my theory. Good question cause I can see that being a scenario. You have me thinking. I have some lights at home and I’m going to try it and see if there is a drop in voltage and I can respond to this message. Thank you. Even Im learning something new everyday.
@@jbsdiytv I look forward to your result! The way my roofline is, the only way to not cut anything is to use both of the provided jumpers that came with my 150’ set.
Yes sir, that’s correct. Everyone needs to plan that way. If you feel that you might need two major jumps, 150ft is the way to go because the 100ft box only comes with one. I think we all hate that accessories just can’t be easily be purchased so we have to make it work.
@@HughsReviews After testing the power supply, controller, 2-12’ extensions and 6 strands…It indeed works and I don’t see a voltage drop. Thank you again for your question👊👌
Does the wire stapler work on aluminum soffits I would love to buy that dewalt stapler since it seems multi purpose just not sure? Thank you for all the videos i am studying them heavily. I have about 260FT worth of roof lining that i want to cover with these lights and i a debating what my best scenario would be....2x150s going different directions or 1x 200ft + 1x100ft.
The Brad nails will be loose on aluminum soffit. I would definitely get one full 200ft kit to light up your front and keep a 100ft where it’s less visible to the view. Not sure how your house is positioned in a cul de sac or at corner but use your best judgement with that. Just know that you can group your devices Here is an example of how to go about the panels that have holes if yours are like this instagram.com/ourdiyhomeproject/reel/Cz33AkvL0Lk/
Hi there. Thanks for your question. The 12ft blank extension comes with one in the 100ft kits and two in the 150kit of the 1st Generation. The Govee pros 100ft kit comes with one 12ft extension and two 4ft extensions
@@jbsdiytv hi there, my house is a town home, and the frontal view doesnt use eave, the roof had internal canoes please watch this video, my english is poor so i dont know how to explain myself
@ab221983 hi I understand. Looks like the town homes may be made out of stucco. I don’t think this product will do well on that surface. You will need to drill out small holes to place clips there. It would be best to install permanent lighting with a track and have it color matched so it looks like part of the structure
Yes it will. It has been tested by the lights being submerged under water. The power adapter and controller I would protect it though. Now the adhesive pad part on the back of the light, I’m not liking the idea. You probably have to really anchor them down with some adhesive so they don’t come undone because they have been failing on the soffits just by the 3M adhesive pad it has. Good question but I’ve never tested it. Good luck 👍
JB sorry, one more question please. I understand that if you go over 150 Led lights on one strand you have to put a "module" in to boost the power for additional LED's. I can't find anywhere what I need exactly and where I can purchase it? Can you please advise. Sincerely appreciate your expeditious responses and professional guidance! You are a rare find up here!
Adding a module is only true when using the pro outdoor permanent lights 150ft Kit but not for the non pro kits. After 150ft, you can add 3 strands to extend and the module will now get placed after the 5th string of lights. 150ft is the max for the non pros
Yes. Make sure to cut them in groups of 4. Example if you need a total of 6 lights, only 4 will work and the other two will never work. You can use plastic dip at the cut off ends or you can use industrial glue gun. Place some glue in a bottle cap and dip it after a few seconds of cooling
@@HUBBSPEC you can throw the groups of 4 out the door. In a previous video short(perfect cut strands) I mentioned a lot of you all have brought up that as long as you end you lights by splicing it can’t be less than 4 lights. You can cut after that on a full strand. Hope this helps answer your question
I’ve read that these light don’t make true or soft white. When you displayed the “accent light” it looked like a soft white. Would you say it actually looks like a soft white accent? It’s always hard to tell in videos.
It is a soft to cold white. This happens because there isn’t a designated led specifically for what. It uses other colors to make white. The pros that are coming out soon, they have their own LEDs to make warm white
Have you had any issues with these? After many months of use, mine just died. I have received replacement parts from govee but still nothing works. I thought it was a power supply issue but now I don't know.
Boy it sure sounds like you had a bad kit and that’s rare because we don’t really have that many issues. We probably have done at least 20 Pro installs without problems. It must be something else. Do this if you can, grab your controller and power adapter and move it to another spot in the install. Whether you have 1 or two strands, make sure to update in the app to 1 segments or 2 segments. It’s a perfect way to check if you have a bad strand
Ah sorry, I was bit confused about your question because most that message already have their lights and need more extensions. Yes they come with the kits. 1st Generation lights 100ft comes with 1-12ft and the 150ft comes with 2. The pros 100ft comes with 1-12ft and 2-4ft extensions
How do you reset the lights? I am unable to get the last 2 strands to work (they worked when I tested them on the ground), now they are on the roof and I am worried!
Hi there, have you seen my Custom Govee Install video. Near the end before I show the results of the lights there is a small clip. Take a look at it because visual is always better than typing it out. If you still have questions respond to this comment. Thank you
You should show the different light presets from the street view as that would be the best way to display what it looks like to the viewer. The views were great for the install, but people want to see what it looks like to the viewer
Good afternoon JB, I've joined the club! You have been a huge help with your videos and answering my questions in a very timely manner. I have an issue with my Govee 150' elite light strands. I ran about 20' from the room dormer back down to the A pex at it's lowest point using the wire you recommended from Amazon (thank you!) the I connected the strand I had cut from the end of the dormer to the wire you recommended. I tested this before I put it up on the A pex and they worked. I put them up and now the only one that works is the one right after the connection I made and the rest, that and two strands which total 150' of lights will NOT light up. I spoke to Govee and they think they could be defective as we went through a full reset. Have you ever encountered this and did you get it to work without sending them back to Govee to be replaced. They are already attached to the side molding on the house and I don't want to have to take them down and then reinstall these strands if possible as it's in an awkward area for the ladder to go up 16' to begin with. Please help me out with some advise. Thank you!!!
Amazing job and content My question is what would you suggest if attic has an eve(2x4 blocking exterior), instead of suffix? Just bought mines and want to bring into attic to plug in power. Also the clips in your links are no longer available any other ones you’d recommend?
Hi there and thank you for your question. I have commented on this on my other platforms so I will address it here. When it comes to having 2x4’s as truss for soffit, I have seen on a Govee group post that someone used a 1/2”x2” wood stripped where they placed it 2-4” off the wall, then painted it. If you don’t want to weave in and out of those boards, then do this for a clean install and you could possibly save yourself having to buy more lights cause you burned most of your line to make those roller coaster jumps. I’m aware of the clips being unavailable. I’m an affiliate for Amazon and I don’t recommend any others. AliExpress has some for less. We purchase from there as well. Hope this helps and answers your questions
So glad to hear that. You can definitely do it!!Go for it. Fill up you street with cars and people wanting to watch the hard work you put it to it. Thanks for watching
You may have a schedule or a dreamview set up that overrides what you really want to see. It’s difficult to say what you really have without seeing what you have. If you would like you can reach me at my facebook or instagram to share your images. Links are at the top of the channel
It says in the instructions to use hooks , the sticky part is only temporary to help at the installation time. Plus, common sense , why would you rely on sticky tape outdoors in rain ,snow , sun heat.
Great video JB. Was wondering what do you use under eaves or soffits that are aluminum? I'm assuming the braid nail wont work. Also do you have to have a continuous run of lights or can have splice anywhere on the run?
Use U shape clips or the transparent clips with a small fine tread screw so it doesn’t strip out the metal. You can splice anywhere in the line as long as your bring back together with a small custom jump(less than 3ft) or the provided govee blank extension
No. Govee outdoor permanent lights has been out a few years so it’s new to homeowners and contractors so there aren’t many. I will eventually travel around TX but I’m noticing that many do not want to pay a travel fee. We will see in the near future if that changes. If I’m in DFW, I will notify you. Thanks for watching
Just a heads up to anyone thinking of wiring these lights in their attic - do not drill though your roof trusses! Find another way to route the cable. The holes shown in the video are right though a roof truss and to properly fix you'd need the manufacture and possibly an engineer involved.
Im a full time mechanical engineer/designer and I did consult with a structural engineer about the 1/2” hole I drilled in that area. Mentioned 3/4” but it’s actually 1/2”. He said the size of hole made in that area is not significant enough to impact the structural integrity of the home. But yes I do agree your point, others watching this will not know that so I do strongly suggest a better solution of routing. On all installs, we have avoided doing anything of this method to try and install through a truss. We route through the soffits. This home is purchased and I don’t ever plan to leave. Thank you for your comment which brings awareness and a valid point👍
This is one of the most absurd comments I've ever read on YT. You could've cut that part of the truss right down the middle and it would've been fine. If drilling a hole even 3 times as big as the one he drilled compromises the structural integrity of your house then you need to talk to the guy who built it
I'm a general contractor. Generally in structural wood you can make a hole up to 1/3 of the overall width of the wood directly in the middle without compromising integrity *so long* as it's not near either end. The only thing the wood in the middle does is keep the outsides in place; the outsides do all the work, and a single hole will not stop that from happening. Hence why truss bridges have mostly air in the middle, the beams are on the outside and crisscrossed between to keep the outsides in place. I drill through trusses, joists, walls, etc all day long. Now notching, drilling holes near an edge, that is *VERY* bad unless specifically approved by an engineer.
I don't think you know what "exposed wires" means. "A hazard that exists when any wire and electrical conductor is easily accessible or visible and not concealed by conduit, jacketing, sheathing, or an approved electrical enclosure." - www.hud.gov These lights have weatherproof sheathing and the connections have waterproof enclosures. There can be valid reasons to not get these lights, but "exposed wires" isn't one of them.
Going through the attic to hide the jumps is genius, thanks for the idea
You’re welcome, not a problem. Thanks for watching
Drilling through your truss isn't a genius move....
Is there a tutorial you'd recommend on how to splice wires?
I'm 2 minutes in and I see a tool I need!
Nice work!
A suggestion would be to attach the wiring to the side of the boards in the attic. This will prevent them being stepped on or something placed on them.
Yes sir that is a good suggestion. I wanted to mount it overhead but the distance I went with the adapter and controller came up short and tight so this was my last resort. Great content man. How do you do only specific lights like you show at 8:52?
You can do that in both finger sketch and DIY finger sketch. Turn off background color, bring down the speed to none, add your fill color and then save it. Good luck
First off excellent job with the wiring, but I have a quick question.. can I cut off excess lights at the end of a string "not reattaching them" without damaging it

Can you make your own custom light pattern . Like a white and red chasing light for Christmas?
Yes sir. You can do that 2 ways of doing it. Under color, then advanced settings, then pick which individual lights you want and pick your stream like clockwise or counterclockwise with speed. Other areas is in DIY. Both can be saved.

Hi JB, would you mind do a video on how you set up the accent lighting? I have been do so many times, but still can't figure out how. Thanks
We have the permanent lights pro 100ft. Had them installed. They worked for a few days and not half don't work..any suggestions?. Thanks
Thanks for the info….very helpful! Looks as if only three 48 foot sections can run together based on product description. How can I get the 4th string to connect?
Did you buy the 50ft kit?
What did you to to ensure that a light was at the top of each gable..and still have the lights evenly spaced?
Thanks
Thanks for your help brother, do you have a do and donts for splicing?
The 150ft box comes with two 12’ extensions. I don’t see a problem or Govee would of fixed that. Thanks for you question
oh thanks for the example on the jumps!
Has anyone tried making a track for the Govee standard or pros?
Love your video. Any tips for installing on a concrete wall?
@@ChristopherCabrera-u5f are installing outdoor permanent lights on the wall and not your soffit?
@ I live in S.Fla, so our sofits are concrete connected by a wood facia. I currently have hooks hanging on the inside part of the facia. I was thinking of putting the govee lights there, but from watching your videos, in order to get that dome effect, it needs to be about 3.5 inches away from the house.
So was just wondering what you would do in that case?
@ChristopherCabrera-u5f 😬 I see. Only thing with my knowledge I’m aware of, need to use a masonry the size of your concrete screws. Then use the concrete screws to drill them in after. I would use 3D mounts to make it look clean
@@jbsdiytv Forgive for my newbie questions. When you concrete screws, do you mean concrete anchors and using the screws that came with the elite kit? Any recommendations on 3D mounts you are referring to?
Can you use the cable stapler insted of the clips?
Yes you can, use the Ryobi impact staple gun that has settings, any other will keep bending
Sorry never saw this one come in. Did you order the 1st generation lights or Pros
Just did my own house with these and came out great. Great video !
Awesome, glad it all work out. Thanks for watching

Have you experimented with distance from the light ot the house? Is 2" your recommended distance, or have you found a distance you like better?
How far away from the wall in the soffit do you recommend putting the lights for better light effects?
We use a 2x2 crafting block but the max is 4” to keep that scallop look which is the purpose of the lighting effect
Do you ever travel to the Houston area?
We have quoted a few there and none have followed through or the job was too big. I have a full time job still managing all this with a 3 man crew
We didn’t use those screws. Our method is using a ryobi 18gauge 1” brad nailer
@@jbsdiytv and that will go through hardy board?
@craigchilds7688 we’ve done 90+ installs that way. I guarantee it. Use the ryobi 18gauge air strike brushless, not sure how others preform

If you buy the first generation lights 100ft, it comes with one. If you get the 150ft kit it comes with two. The pros lights come with extensions
what shoes you use to walk on shingles? im doing this project soon. Thank you.
I use vans. Almost the same texture of a skateboard so it grips well. Are also very comfortable to wear. If you have a steep roof, I would recommend getting two small pitch hoppers. Be safe
Roofer here... Anything flexible and with life left. I wear hiking boots or running shoes.
@@jbsdiytv Thanks...I think thats probably what happened. My first time trying to splice stuff. I should have been more careful.
Question! If I were to purchase a 100’ kit and later on down the road purchase the 50’ kit, could I add it onto the existing 100’ kit to now make it 150’ as “one” kit? I don’t wanna pay for a full 150’ kit right now …
Thank you for your support. You can purchase 3 strands instead of the 50ft kit. That would be better and it can work. Stay under 150ft on a 100ft kit
How you turn on a single light on these strips? Thank for the video

How would you attatch the clips to pvc soffit?
I would think a rivet would work good, but adds another step since you would have to drill a hole.
Can I cut a 100 foot down to 180 feet? And can I cut and exttend with wire to use at another area?
Sorry, I’m a bit confused with the question you just asked. Can you clarify please?
@@jbsdiytv wow what did I write there!!! lol sorry about that. I just ordered the 200’ pro and I have 2 stories and getting from my first story to my second story is going to be tricky if I plan on running from right to left?

I got a question for you I live in Las Vegas it gets really hot here and the plastic mounting squares that come with the elite package kind of worried that those will get weathered for the Second Story wondering what type of staple gun I could use to staple it into the eaves
I have checked out the Milwaukee one kind of too long to fit between the eaves
Can you turn individual lights off ?
Yes. In 4’s in segmented or in advance settings
Where can I buy the 12ft extension?
Govee does not sale extra extensions. Sometimes of the FB Govee groups other members have extras and are willing to sale them
I read some reviews that the lights will not work if they are cut in groups less then 4 lights is that true?
@l3n0y.24 you can cut where ever. We typically try and leave at least 4 lights remaining on a strand. We haven’t had to do less than that
I see you have both light strip and the lights you just installed, how do they look like when they are both on? I did not like the clam shape shadow on the wall so I got the stip instead for more solid look (just my own preference ) OR strip didn’t last longer than you were hoping for so you replaced them with the permanent lights instead?

You will be using two manufactured lines that amp the voltage to your lights so that’s my theory. Good question cause I can see that being a scenario. You have me thinking. Yes sir, that’s correct. Everyone needs to plan that way. If you feel that you might need two major jumps, 150ft is the way to go because the 100ft box only comes with one. I think we all hate that accessories just can’t be easily be purchased so we have to make it work.

@ab221983 hi I understand. Looks like the town homes may be made out of stucco. I don’t think this product will do well on that surface. You will need to drill out small holes to place clips there. What type of wire did you use in the jumps?
Hi there. It’s 18-3 wire. The links is in the description
im wondering if this would work around the edges of my pool
I have the new Costco Govee 100ft permanent Elite lights and tried hooking more lights to it and it didn’t work. Not sure why, same lights.
can you cut and cap your lights to end where you want?
Yes. Make sure to cut them in groups of 4. Example if you need a total of 6 lights, only 4 will work and the other two will never work. You can use plastic dip at the cut off ends or you can use industrial glue gun. Place some glue in a bottle cap and dip it after a few seconds of cooling
@@jbsdiytvwhen u say groups of 4 u mean 4 strands together or one strand has 4 lights and cut after that forth light
@@HUBBSPEC you can throw the groups of 4 out the door.

You may have a schedule or a dreamview set up that overrides what you really want to see. It’s difficult to say what you really have without seeing what you have. If you would like you can reach me at my facebook or instagram to share your images. Links are at the top of the channel
Why are you using cable hooks? Don't the lights have stickers on them? Do you not trust them?
65 installs in, first 3 failed in 2 months. Cleaning the soffit and alcohol. 0. Let’s get it done right the first time
Good to know! Thanks!
It says in the instructions to use hooks , the sticky part is only temporary to help at the installation time. Plus, common sense , why would you rely on sticky tape outdoors in rain ,snow , sun heat.
where you located?
Hello, thanks for watching. We are located in San Antonio, Tx
How can you install over 150 of lights? In Minnesota, anyone available to install?
Buy the pros 100ft or 200ft then it’s possible. Also, if there is a company that wants to use this platform to take care of this client, have at it
Like the work by far is great but the film can't see all of the work at the same time
Great video JB.
What do you normally use for your custom jumps?@@jbsdiytv
@jacksonb03 we use 18-3 wire and keep them less than 3ft so there is no flickering
@@jbsdiytvis the govee wire 20 gauge or 18?
The Govee wire is 22 gauge. For resistance factors on longer jumps, use 16-18gauge/3 wire
If I purchase the 150ft kit, can I make custom jumps (probably under 10 ft in total) or will that effect the lights?
Know anyone that can do this in dfw?
I’ve got a guy if you are still looking
@@jeremya5757who is your guy?
@@jbsdiytvI'm interested who do I contact?
@tbui817 message us on Facebook messenger to get you that contact info
If drilling a hole even 3 times as big as the one he drilled compromises the structural integrity of your house then you need to talk to the guy who built it
🏆🙏
Dude what? You would lose it in most the commercial building I work in if this bothers you 😂
I'm a general contractor.
I tied my Alexa Blink motion sensor to the Govee, it will activate upon detection ( HUGE SECURITY IDEA)
That’s awesome!! It also works with Ring and Govee Motion sensor
It would be best to leave the electrical work to a qualified electrician. Poor installation and planning will reduce the product's lifespan.
Thank you for watching the video. Really appreciate it🙏
idk how everyone loves these so much with exposed wires running all over the outside of your house.
Seems like competitive prices being 8-12k for 100ft and only the front might just do it
I don't think you know what "exposed wires" means.
"A hazard that exists when any wire and electrical conductor is easily accessible or visible and not concealed by conduit, jacketing, sheathing, or an approved electrical enclosure." - www.hud.gov
These lights have weatherproof sheathing and the connections have waterproof enclosures.
There can be valid reasons to not get these lights, but "exposed wires" isn't one of them.
Please dont follow this guy and drill through your truss!!!
I feel like I would need a professional to come in and install these perfectly 🫤
Are you comfortable with ladders and tools?
