out here doing the lords work
Seriously, one of the most thorough, informative, and clear videos I have ever seen on RUclips. Well done
Just ordered mine yesterday during prime day. This is THE MOST thorough example on splicing that I have seen.can’t wait to get mine up.
Thank you very much for this and your other informative videos on the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights. Because of your videos, I was confident going into my installation that required some significant modifications due to our home's unique layout. I ended up making a Y-connector from spare end connectors (cut off the end of one shortened run and one unused section) to split power because our power outlet is in the middle of the run, and also cut and spliced another run to go around a chimney. All butt-crimped and heat shrinked, and all tested out successfully today! :)
This is the best example video of these Govee lights. You answered every question i had and the ones I could have had.
Maaaannnn... this video came RIGHT on time!
I bought the 150ft kit a month ago and have been putting off install for a couple reasons including this one about splicing and using 3rd party extensions!!
Guess I know what im doing this weekend!! Thank you!!!
Have they been working okay after splice?
Wanted to say thank you. Following your lead I was able to splice and customize my Govee lights.
This is by far the BEST video for these lights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally a video that breaks down how to do this. Makes me feel a lot better about it.
This might be the greatest RUclips video in the history of the internet
Just did my house last week it turned out great! Another great video man.
Thanks. This is exactly what I was wondering if I could do to these lights.
Govee needs to cut you a check. This was a fantastic video, produced at an exceptional level. Thank You.
Amazing video. I was super curious on how you’d install where there’s major breaks between roofs. This is perfect and well done.
Excellent job, Chris and timely for me too! So grateful! Blessings from a fan in Tennessee!
Man I've never been so excited to get thru the day. This guy's out here proving that the Internet was worth it.
Excellent video! I am just in the process of installing my lights and was going to run a similar experiment myself. But you just did it for me. Thank you very much.
Excellent video!!! Very detailed and thorough! Keep ‘em coming
this is great b/c ive been looking to buy these but wanted to know how to extend the wires. perfect, thanks
I was looking for this video for a long time. Thank you so much.
This is one of the best videos I have ever watched! I was desperate about the cables and planning, so you helped a lot!!
Hey Cris great video. I'll feel way more confident doing my install tomorrow. 👍
Thank you so much , this video is just what I was looking for.
Thanks for the detail and info. Made me comfortable to try with my lights and install🎉
This is genuinely a masterpiece instructional video. WTF. 🔥
It looks like the Govee extension cable has an F-amp in it. Basically a signal booster/cleaner. I wonder if it would have worked if you put the Govee extender in the middle or end of the two off brand ones instead of at the beginning.
Exactly the video I needed! Thank you!
this is exactly the video i needed to see. thank you
just a few tips from a tech who uses butt connectors on the reg.
- The butt connectors that are pre-shrink tube wrapped are kinda garbage. Its easy to pierce the heat shrink when crimping thus breaking the seal. Use bare butt connectors and good black heat shrink with resin. Some heat shrink doesnt have an inner resin coating so make sure yours does.
- You can also stagger the connections for a cleaner, leaner look.
- If you dont have a crimper or dont want to buy bare as well as heat shrink, they make a low temp solder butt connector. Its a heat shrink tube with low temp solder inside and ya slip it over and heat it up and thats it.
Great video helped out so much. Thanks
Perfect video! Great job.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have successfully cut and crimped my way to a full Govee install! Net up, WLED!
Hey. Did u use the butt connectors and heat gun. And how far of extensions did you use
Awesome!!!! Glad it all worked out!!
Hey Chris, I did this with the 18 gauge wire and my lights after the cut are only a bright white led and I can’t change them? Any reason for that??
@alexhall1732 new to govee myself but when I reversed the power wires on my ws2811 pixel LEDs I only got one solid color. Once I reversed the wires I had full controll of the ws2811's again. Double check your data and power wires are for sure wired correctly.
I’ve sent them so many comments and messages about selling the extensions. No dice. Thanks for the video
Great information. Thank you!
Hi Chris, as always an excellent tutorial, thank you,
I hope you and your family are all well.
I was wondering, I'm not a computer expert but as you know love WLED, would there be a possibility of a short video explaining what flashers and drivers are that you need for WLED and which ones to use and where to find them etc etc, as it's the one thing that always has me worrying which are safe etc, plus it's the one question I get asked most and I can't answer.
Sorry if I'm asking too much or adding to your workload.
Many thanks 🙏
Thank you for this video. Finally figure out my custom extension js clearly way tooo long lol.
Thank you Chris.
Glad yours work. Cut mine and no go. About 8-10 feet of wire and 75 feet of lights.
Did you eliminate lights? I don't believe you can do that.
Thank you for sharing an awesome video. I am now a new subscriber.
Saved for next christmas
Amazing video and information
Thanks to your video, I was able to add about 14 ft to the extension cord with 16 gauge white wire and the shrink wrap connector method. With a 100ft set, I get no flickering or power loss on the final strands of lights
16 gauge or 18 gauge?
@@jeremymorgan996 I used 16 gauge since I couldn't find any 18 at my hardware store that looked suitable. I would agree that the Govee's are 18 though. the 16 gauge extension didn't have any problem
How long is the govee extension cable?
I guess I need some help here. I bought the 100ft and in the 4th segment I had to put an extension of 5ft, everything worked fine. In the 5th segment after the 4th light I need to do another extension of 11ft. Did exactly the same process and no way to get it working, tried to go for 9ft extension and still no success. What am I missing? Thanks!
Hi Chris thanks for awesome videos, can you make one video showing if we can add/splice/connect a govee outdoor strip to these lights. I have an area on my roof doesn’t have soffit to attach these and only the strip can fit there…
Since you are a genius I feel you will be able to come up with a solution for people like me
Thanks in advance
Your video is easy to follow. Looking to do some splices. But wanted to see if you knew if using the connectors between each strand was required of if I could cut them off and splice together. I have a connection that ends at the perfect location and needs about a two feet splice but don’t want to put lights between.
Interesting video. Thank you for sharing. I'd be concerned that moisture from humidity and condensation would eventually penetrate the white box where the cables enter and eventually cause a problem. It would be better if you used a waterproof coupler, either directly attached to the box or just on the cables themselves, to ensure a secure, water tight environment to protect the wiring.
I would look at the Wago Gelbox
Great video. What would they look like if installed closer to wall then 2"? I have some side areas where there is no overhang.
Great detailed video thanks. Can you cut whats not needed and seal if too long of section.
Thank you sir!!!
This is exactly what I need to see! NOW the question is, can you split them into 2 branches? That would help my setup tremendously!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I just tried doing some splitting and things worked great! ruclips.net/video/cG0xsnRm-As/видео.html
Great video!! I was wondering if you can splice into them creating a branch
Perfect timing, have three 100 ft boxes sitting on my kitchen table right now getting ready to install. I'm pretty sure they recommended against running three of them together so I'm curious if you foresee an issue?
Chris. Thanks for your videos they are awesome. I purchased a 100 ft kit. (Not Pro).
I could use your help. I need a detailed video on how to turn off a few lights that have in various places that don't add anything to the show.
Great video - I watched it a few times but decided to try and keep my lights intact instead. I am at a bit of a loss, maybe someone can help. I found a cable that fits into the sockets with only a minor adjustment (cutting off the threads). I have the lights broken into 3 sections with 2 strings in each and they can easily be reached with the single provided extension - I just only have 1. I tested all the lights together first before I out any of them up. I had the first 2 groups working with the supplied extension between them. Then I tested this one that I bought - it worked!. So now I have the first 2 groups (4 light strands in total) with a 3rd party extension between them. I went to add the govee extension to connect the last set of lights... and they dont work. I am not sure what I missed. So I have 2 strings of lights, 3rd party extension (maybe 9ft max), 2 sets of lights, govee extension, 2 sets of lights. The last set will not turn on. Anyone have guesses?
Hey chris excellent video i have a situation was wondering if i could add 3 lights to a 12 foot extension
I can make the extension shorter i just need to get 3 more lights on an overhang
Thank you for the awesome break down! Is 150’ LED safe using about 40’ of 20AWG wire?
LOVED the video!! I wanted to buy the pro version with 2 extensions but they are out of stock. will go your method of adding extension but those extensions you referenced are out of stock as well! can you link another extension that would work??
Hello! Thanks for the great video :) Do you happen to know if I can use T connectors or Y connectors with these types of lights?
Great video I just installed mine but I need another extension cable. Do you possibly have a link of where you got yours from?
Awesome video. Thanks! I’ve looked through the comments but haven’t found an answer - which 3rd party extender did you use?
just noticed that the last wire used after splicing is not outdoor rated. But Great Video!! Thanks a Ton!
Great video! Quick question, can you omit lights when splicing or do they always have to continue in sequence?
Good video.unfortunately 3rd party extension not available and Govee will not sell separately.
Thank you for your content, is very helpful, wondering if you can point me in the right direction to build an extension, I need a 15-20 feet to jump, specifically do you have any other 3rd party extensions identified as the one in your link is not available?
Also If making my own extension, do you have a preference between silicon wires (18 Gauge vs 20 Gauge)?
Thank you !
Thank so much for the. video bro. I have a question.
Say you have a 50ft run of lights, but where I'm going to put them is only 30ft. What to do with the excess 20ft?
Nice video 🎉
I've been watching a ton of RUclips videos on which LEDs to buy for this Christmas (2023). I fucked up my cheap lights last year when "Ripping" them off the house! They are over 5 years old and I've always wanted to do the LEDS. Only my two story house has a lot of dif. sections needing extensions. As of right now, I think Govee only allows "Cuts" Thank you... I will click the link if you have an affiliate link for the lights if I choose them!
How long do you think one extension can go? Or do you think it’s possible to create a second power cord? I ordered the extension light cords, not realizing they don’t have their own power source, and it would make the most sense to give them their own power cord.
Hello Chris ! Thanks you very much for this video. Do you know if it's possible with Govee RGBIC String Downlights ?
Nice video. What size heat shrink tubing did you use on the three butt joints?
Question- why use the 18G wire versus keeping consistent with 20G? Thanks for posting this @chrismaherdiy
Hey Chris, great video. So, i've been waiting for these 3 pin ASAHOM 6ft Extension Cords to become available, but they've been out of stock for a while. The decription says by today they'll be back in stock...in case they're still delayed longer, do you recommend another 3 pin extender cord?
Great videos. Do you know if we can invert the extremity where we plug the power and control ? Because my leds are already in place. But will be a lot more estetic if I change the power from one extremity to the other. Tks
Hi Chris just ordered my lights and love this educational video that shows what Govee won't tell you. By any chance did you try to splice two strips in parallel. I'm just thinking of areas I'd love to add extra lighting. The method that makes most sense with one strip would actually make it a triple run similar to an S vs say two strips in parallel that would be two runs similar to an equal sign =. And what about say adding a strip from a main strip to say create a T to run off the porch columns but dang I have 4 columns but if be using 3 due to 3rd one being blocked off by boat. Thanks for the video and yes you got my sub. Happy holidays.
I'm also curious about two to one. I imagine it would mess up any kind of "wave" type theme
This is beautiful. Does the whole line still work with the app??
Have you tested to see how it works if you splice the incoming wire into two separate outgoing wires?
Great video thanks. I bought the 150 foot strand. It comes with 3 long ext cords and 2 short cords.
Do you know if there will be flickering if I connect a long cord to a short cord??
Very good video Sr.!
I have a situation, I need to extend one segment between 2 lights to 12 feet more, How far do you think I could go?
Amazing video, thanks for this! Can you share another 3rd party extension connectors? The one you have linked says none available. Thanks!!!
Same here :)
Would you be able to add a T-junction and run a short strand out of the middle of the line? I have two dormers I am planning on reaching and want to do it with as little trouble as possible. If I can do it this way, it will look as if they are starting and stopping directly under the eaves.
Chris thank you so much for this video… my quick questions is .. Can I cut the extra length light at the end of on roof? And how to water proof that end cut?
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! I actually just made a video on this! Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/eG4sKOmZW9k/видео.html As far as waterproofing, I would probably just put some hot glue on the cut end.
Great video Chris! Thanks!
Great demo. Unfortunately I was only able to get 13' of splice and I needed 16'. Anything over 13' would cause flickering on the last strand or two.
Great video man, Thanks! Quick question. I need to cut & splice in wires to create a 15' gap between 2 lights in the middle of a string. I'm concerned this will be too far of a gap and power will drop on the other side. Do you think this will be an issue?
And if so, since the 12' Govee extension has a "driver or booster" on it, what are your thoughts on splicing an extra 3' of wire into the extension, and then splicing that modified extension into the middle of a string of lights? Thanks again
I am know i am bit late to the party but WAGO has part called a Gelbox - I highly suggest using that method if you dont want to crimp wire.
Can they power injected? Great video!
Are there any t-adapters you'd recommend if I want to have a short off shoot from the main line?
🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏 Amazing video.
Hey Chris, I was wondering if you can cut one segment in two places, and then reconnect them but with extension wire? Thanks!
Great vid would you think it would be okay to make 3x 5m segments into 2x 7.5 metre segments ?
Hi Chris, thank you for your explanation. It's very helpful. However, I mistakenly attached the strip in the wrong direction. Do you know if I can swap the male connector with the female connector on the existing cable by cutting and then switching them, allowing the cable to remain in place?
I did the same thing 😂. Im also curious. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be an issue. I might just try it in the spring time. Worst case I’m out a string or 2 of lights and it’s easier that taking everything down and redoing it from scratch.
Can you tell me where to get the extension cable? Can't seem to find it. Govee doesn't have it.
I only need one more extension cable so not sure I need to splice. Do you have another recommendation? The link for 3rd party extension connectors are sold out.
You should see if you can inject power into a longer run
Chris, have you tried WLED with these Govee lights? I’d like to think they used the same chipset as their strips and that it would work flawlessly for a little more freedom from the limitations of their app 🤞🏼
Well I’m an idiot and found your video of exactly this 😂😂😂
I thought I’d try this to shorten my lights. I only need 45’. What if I cut the first section from the controller to the length I need then splicecit bac together at the new length. Thoughts?
Of you put a data booster in line with the extension do you think it would work? Or do you think i need to inject power too? Im thinking of using wire to extend it like 25'.
Hello. Very informative. Unfortunately those extensions you referenced are out of stock. Do you have any other options you could recommend?
Did that affect controlling individual lights through the app?
I have a question. Can you actually splice in the middle and put the outlet in the middle of the strip? Or will that cause data loss and issues?
