Great video.. Thats what I would expect a professional install to look like. I didnt even know about those water proof heat shrink. I could have definitely used those both times I've put lights up. I wish Govee gave us some color options for the cables though so you didnt have to color match. Maybe one day
I really appreciate you taking the time to view my video. I really like how you spilled out in your video what needs to make sense when installing these Govee lights. Everyone pays a pretty penny to buy these govee lights and everyone ask these questions but that’s the reason why they do it, so you can buy more. I’m trying to help to viewer so that’s why I started making videos on theses lights. I don’t know what happened to my comment on your page but I’d like to post again if your ok with it. Maybe one day we can collaborate on a topic. Good luck with your journey my man.👍
Yes not a problem at all. Good luck with your install. If you really want us to travel to Colorado we can discuss numbers. Just let us know. We have other social platforms at the top of our page to reach us
I want to install these on my house but worried about the wiring sticking out like a sore thumb during the day. My siding and soffits are vinyl. I'm not spray canning on vinyl. They should consider selling grey, tan, etc colored wires. Your video and process was great except for the spray paint overspray. What happens when it comes time to paint the house?
Hi and thanks for watching. These are items we discuss with our clients before we start any quotes. We have to make it clear before we proceed. This is a 3rd party product and warranties it comes with it is what you get. Of course, if we are in the area we will definitely replace a strand if it goes bad once the client requests warranty replacements or buys new strands. Our clients are fully aware and majority just want their lights up
This might be a dumb question; however do the strands have run the the same direction from the power source or can they “y” off from an outlet? Thank in advance for help
Do you know of any manual or clear instructions for programming multiple sets of lights? Also, is there any info for controlling groups of lights when outside of bluetooth range.
Hi Tom, thanks for watching our content. We are using 18 guage - 1” brad nails since our Ryobi Brad Nail gun requires 18gauge only. Follow what is recommended on your tool. Thanks for your comment
I live in San Antonio and about to purchase a 100ft. set of these lights I have a single story house with 3 peaks could you give me a rough Idea how much your install would cost?
Very nice job! One question, I just purchased a Govee RGBIC Permanent Outdoor light Set 100' Model H705A can these be cut to fit? I have solder waterproof sleeves but not sure what happens if I cut this run ....These things cost way to much to screw up!
Thank you for watching. The kit on the Govee website does say do not splice. Now, they say that cause if you do, it voids their warranty. That doesn’t mean they can’t be spliced but you need to have some knowledge of voltage drop when customizing your own length of wire jumps and take the amount of strands you have vs how many times you have to customize. Like I mentioned in the video, do all this at your own risk
@jbsdiytv 1st gen, But i'm having problems with the timer. They come on at set time but don't go off at my set time. I when I turn them off manually they magically turn back on thirty minutes later. And the set scene playlist doesn't start when timer turns lights on 🤷♂️
@@scarletfire9812 only set a timer at the front page to go on and off. Then in automation just set an On and the days you want the scene to start. Don’t set an off in automation, just a On
If it’s not to exceed 150ft, are you saying don’t even use the included 12ft extender if you have the 150ft kit? Also, at 12:16, I don’t understand what you mean when you said you did 4 splices on the 12ft extender.
We had 95 feet to the left so that is 1-100ft kit and 95ft to the right so that’s another 100ft kit. In each box, there is a 12’ extension. We used those two at the two longer jumps. Each side after using the provide extension and our custom jumps the total feet added is 124ft under the recommended 150ft If you buy a 150ft kit, it’s a different story. You can use what Govee provided. Sorry for the confusion. There were 2-12ft extensions used like described at the beginning of the video for planning and layout. At each location of those 12ft extensions, we spliced 2 times there and another 2times at the other to make those jumps possible. Hope this clears up your question
Link provided for the clips are little different from the ones used in the video. I would like to use the. Nail gun as well will these clips made of the the Same material. I would hate to purchase them and find out that they crack if nailed with gun. Thanks for the video
The ones you are looking for keep selling out. Yes those are different but they work for all our installs. Make sure it sits flat on the surface material
When you mention to only use the insulated 3 color wiring over a small distance, how small of a distance does it have to be? Would it work over 5-6 feet?
Forgive me if this is already answered: You mention the white/green/red wire should only be used for “smaller jumps.” “Smaller” is relative. What length would be considered too long. I have a 14’ and 9’ gap I am trying to figure out. I am completely stuck considering Govee only provides ONE 12’ and does not sell additional strands by themselves. Please advise. Thank you very much.
Hi there and thanks for watching. No worries at all. If you have just one small jump that is about 3ft then it’s doable but if you have multiple(at least 5) jumps then you will need to try and keep those under 2ft. On the first generation lights, the 100ft kit comes with one 12ft blank extension. The 150ft comes with two. On the Pros, comes with one 12ft blank extension and two 4ft. Hope this helps you
@SGMercer it should come with two 12’ Govee extensions. Check one more time, if it doesn’t have it then reach out to Govee website for support and let them know
We typically use the 18-3 or 20-3 for at least 2-3ft jumps if we have one or two jumps and 1-2ft if we have three to five jumps. If you have jumps longer than 6ft I don’t recommend using this with out some kind of data booster or splicing some lights in your custom extension because the lights themselves can be used as data boosters
I got the 100ft goove permanent light pro lights. I think I am only putting the lights in front of the house and will have about 20ft left. can I just cut at the end and does the 100ft comes if different roles or is just one long string?
If I come to the end of a section and. Were to cut the strip and not continue it, how do I simply seal off the end of the light strip if it’s a cut end?
Use non concentrated plastic dip in a can, not spray. Use can melt glue as an alternative but that will get brittle over time www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9SK8XY/?tag=jbsditv-20
Have you ever installed on a fully perforated/vented vinyl soffit? Hoping install in the next few weeks, and while Alabama weather isnt as extreme as Texas it's still hot enough I worry about relaying on the 3M tape. It's been suggested to use furring strip.
Hi there, thanks for watching.Unfortunately I have not but all that I have read on some installs we’re using small white zip ties. Sorry I couldn’t be much help
You probably already figured this out but could use liquid nails and or more clips on the soffit. Ive seen people install on the strip that is way farther than the 6in they recommend. It changes the way the light looks; less cone more mixed. What did you end up doing?
@mpsmoov128 yes we have started using way more clips than what Govee recommends. We purchased a bulk amount on Ali express since we are doing 1 govee install a day. Also, I don’t recommend using liquid nail on these lights. We have tested them out and during the installation the strand stop working so our installations are easily able to slide the strand out of the clips and replace a new strand. Also, if one goes out in a few years, they will damage when removed as wood and hardiplanks paint get removed from the surface. We install all our lights 2” from the wall using a 2x2” cube. We bring this up to every new client and they agree because they have seen my RUclips channel. 6” is something we tried and our client ask us to move it closer cause they didn’t like the round effect. They paid us extra to do it
We are using up J channel, at 2 1/2" from the house. Christopher helped to explain a few questions we had about jumps. Had planned on renting a boom, but HD is having issues, we are hoping that a replacement battery shows up tomorrow so don't have to use a ladder
@@CentalBama awesome glad he was able to help you all out. We have to keep it affordable for our clients. Seems like they want a really nice install for a low price. Might do this with my own house. Thanks for the info
My question is if you're stranded exceeds one control box and you need to use multiple control boxes is there a way to sync your lights up together so they do the same light pattern
The Brad nailer I used was a Ryobi 18gauge with 1” nails. The links are in the description so you know the exact info of the products. Thanks for watching
I have a set of 100' and have had the same issue even with a replacement kit. Both sets lights stop working and resets reconnect to power nothing works. The controller responds in the app its just the lights never come on. With your experience have you ever had this issue? If you have how can it be resolved? How can you fix th
Hi there. Thanks for watching our content. Have you made sure your segments are correct under settings? I would first do a factory reset by holding down the power button for 5-6 seconds, check if that works. If not, go to your settings and make sure the segments are correct in there. If none of this works, start troubleshooting. Grab your power adapter and controller and test each strand to respond to the factory reset
When the time comes to paint, will it be adequate to just mask each light? Also, I wonder if there is a track system or similar to conceal the wires. I am not a fan of the exposed wires.
When it comes time to paint, they sale stickers on Amazon that are 7/8” diameter to fit on the lens. Not everyone is to worry about it, and I always ask them before install starts. Some have HOA that it’s written it needs to be on a track and color match so I get that so I accommodate them. Solely it’s the owners liability if it’s written and mentioned in the invoice. But it can be painted after. Yes the best track is @BearLightStudios
Hi there. Light spacing is 17” center to center. Govee provides a 12ft extension in the 100ft box and 2-12ft extensions on the 150ft set. If you’re going to be using custom wiring, I would only use those for small jumps like 1-2ft. If not you have voltage drop and cause flickering in your lights
The link to the 18-3 wire is in the description. You can also use 20-3 if it isn’t available but keep them under 2ft to avoid voltage drop. You can splice between the 12ft extension provided by Govee but keep that under 18ft
Hi there. We install all our lights 2-4” from wall. You will get a nice triangle effect and it looks clean. Most want to get away from those measurements and get a round look but that looks somewhat ok for the scene modes but does not look good when accent lighting is used. Hope this info helps
I may have missed it but are you using one controller for the two 100ft kits or did you link the two somehow? If linked how and how many can be linked?
lol, thanks for your support to our channel. When we do installs, we literally take about an 1 hour or so of planning/thinking before we start. It’s a must with these lights. Need to do as less customizing of wire as possible so we try and start our connections at eave jumps but take in consideration where the peek light will land
Don’t use them back to back to make 24ft, it will cause flickering. What we have done is use a few lights in between the extensions so they act as data boosters
im looking to buy here soon but the install is holding me back. not gunna lie im still confused. like how do u hide the power supply and how do u come from where u plug it in at to where u start the first light. and how do u hide the controller and stuff
Hi, what wires are those on 12:15 time stamp to jump over the 2nd floor roof? We’re thinking of doing 150ft around the house and a 100ft at the 2nd floor, do you have the link for the 12ft extensions or was it provided by govee?
Hi there. Thank you for watching my video. That is the 12’ extension provided by Govee. There were two jumps like this. 3 and 7. They were 9ft jumps only and I cut the connections off so that way we did not have all that extra line left on each one. Then those cut off connections, we used them in other locations we spliced the strands and put the heat shrink sleeves with the solder. I hope this answers your question. If you need to make small jumps, the link is in my description (18-3 BTF) Keep this in mind, 100ft box comes with one 12ft extension. 150ft box comes with two 12ft extension. Look at your house and see if you will need two major jumps. Unfortunately you can’t just order extensions last time I checked.
Hi there. Thank you for viewing the video and for your question. Yes we nail them twice and I recommend it for a few reasons. 1.) The 3M vhb pad has been failing in Texas heat. 2.) we apply small pressure to the line and as we unbox the strands, it is much more wrinkled than a crinkle cut fry so we make sure it has two anchor points. If one side were to get nailed and you pull the line slightly, then the clip will pivot. 3.) when they say permanent we shoot for permanent and for them not to fall years later
Yes sir that is correct. I have that product in the description of one of my videos. I’ll check and see if I have it on the others as well. If it’s not there I’ll add it. Thanks for your support
how is the quality of these lights? I had bought a simple govee led strip a few years back for my desk and the colors started to go out after a few months. I want to try and do this at my house but I also don't want the lights to go out after a few months. Thank you in advance.
Hi Daniel. Thank you first for taking the time to view our content and leaving a comment. To answer your question, we have been researching a product that is reliable, easy to install and competitive to other products. I think we hit gold with this one. The product came out in 2020 and just recently a lot have attempted the installation and we have seen the VHB adhesive pad be the only downfall in decision to purchase this product. We did not let that get to us. We brainstormed on better ways to plan and install the product. It’s difficult to say at this point about the longevity of the product as I’ve done 6months worth of installations and I have not had one bad complaint on my installations. The lights themselves are ip67 waterproof while the power adapter and controller are ip65. They are rated for 50,000 life hours so you figure 4-6hrs could last you 10-12yrs give or take. But their will be days of the year you might not have them on.Other than that, if you plan accordingly with the installation process, you won’t be disappointed. Hope this helps
@@jbsdiytv that definitely helps! I tried doing led strips with some fancy WiFi led driver power converters and stuff. I couldn’t figure out soldering a 4 wire led strip with out getting solder over lapping. Such a pain so I gave up. But this option sounds 100x better and more efficient. Thank you. I’ll probably try this out this year for Christmas time.
@vids4fun807s we are in the process of purchasing some extensions from another product and will try out on the Govee product to see if they match. The process I’ve shown on my videos work if you stick to it. In October, a new length will be put out by Govee and there will probably be sales so it might not be available then as everyone will try and get their hands on some. If you have any further questions you can reach us on TikTok, FB & Instagram.
Question: Is there a limit to how many lights I can cut in between? For example: I have two extra lights at the end of my strand, am I able to cut just those two lights and solder them with no issue? Awesome Video and greeting from Georgetown TX!
@@Lmdez13 greetings my fellow Texan. Yes sir, you can cut the two at the end. Make sure it’s considered a full strand in the device settings. Separate the 3 lines slightly, and you can use plastic dip www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9SK8XY/?tag=jbsditv-20
Hi there and thanks for watching our channels content. Yes we would consider it. Please message us on IG @jbsholidandchristmaslighting or on FB @ JB’s Holiday and Christmas Lighting LLC
Question as to soldering connections. Does the light kit require that the connectors between each strand be used? For instance most of my extensions happen at the ends and beginnings of light sections but I have to make jumpers between levels, etc. I don’t 12 feet of cable between each section.
With this type of permanent lighting, you can’t split in the middle to power upper levels. The data does not read separately and all strands need to be continuous in a straight line. In my videos, we have had clients purchase 50ft kits to power other gables that separates rooflines below making it impossible to jump so those are separate devices. That also includes dormers
Also this video shows a 100ft kit. So that’s what I was going off of. Just trying to determine if the connectors of each strip can be cut and the cables connected via your solder connection technique.
Typically 50ft kits are 199. That’s almost 600 for all 3. The 150ft kit usually runs 449. There are deals online currently but I recommend just buying the 150ft if you need that much. It’s good practice to run one controller instead of multiple because the WiFi and Bluetooth sucks in same model grouping
Awesome! I’ll give it a go. Since everyone is reselling the Govee extension cords for $100. 😢 I was stuck on how to reach my second floor. You and your team do professional job ! Thank you for sharing.
It all depends on the roofline. A straight run will be cheaper than 2-4 peeks as those are the ones that require the custom jumps and solder. 100ft can run $700-1100 and 150ft $1000-$1400
You can create a strobe effect in the advanced settings and add twinkle, then pick up the speed on it. You can also go under the explore(globe) at the bottom and search a diy video where users share their set ups, then hit apply
If it is within the install and can be where ever as long as the line comes back together. This only applies when you ending the strand and not attaching anymore. If your removing lights only
@@jbsdiytv So I need 4 light to finish a eave, so I would cut the 4 from the beginning of the strip and then reconnect to the other 12 to start my next run. Would I be able to add another strip to the end of that one?
What happens if I am 10 ft too short to cover the front and side of my house with the Govee 150ft RGBIC kit, and I use the 16ft extention from Amazon to get the full coverage and I cut the extra 6 ft off? Would this be okay or has anyone tried this? Thanks
The app will only read 9 segments which is the 108 lights. You add and it will start flickering and some others won’t turn on. Unfortunately you have to use another power adapter and controller
My apologies. I asked this question on one of your other posts. I’m waiting on the arrival of my 150’ kit. Does the kit come with lengths of wire without the lights for the jumps. I noticed that some of your jumps were spliced back in using the drop off. But then saw longer runs without lights. Thank you. 😊
@@madmann1969 Hi there. The 150kit comes with 2-12ft blank extensions for jumps. Those should be for longer jumps. Use 18-3 wire for smaller jumps below 4ft
@@jbsdiytv how long do you think they will last? I used to have outdoor clips for my previous lights and they turned brittle in about 2 years of continuous exposure to the sun and freezing temperatures. @@jbsdiytv Not sure if I am sensing a bit of hostility in your reply or it’s just how I am reading the chat and misunderstanding. The only reason I am watching is to understand if I ended paying more money and also because I like DIY. You should notice that I mentioned that the lights ended being expensive. I don’t need to market for anyone, they can do it for themselves. I don’t get anything from anyone. I am here for me and to understand if I could have married the govee lights with the type of soffit treatment (if I can get my hands on some) and still get the same effect because the clips was my biggest issue with outdoor lights. BTW you have still not answered how long the clips can withstand outdoor weather. Thanks for the video… it is informative.
Great video and great advice. I have just 2 comments or suggestions. First, I have discovered that when i use the solider and seal connectors sometimes the wire will poke through the plastic side causing a possible short situation. So i place a section of shrink tubing with the glue/sealer inside over the connectors as added insurance. Then also to further seal with another shrink tube over all three extrnded about 1/2 inch past each end. Second, i had enough overhang of my facia board that i put my lights on the back of the facia board aming toward the house. Thus hides the lights almost completely and lights up washing the house wall much brighter.
Thank you for commenting. I’ve never had that issue with this brand of solder and seal when you mention the wire poking through. I have had this issue when using just the heat shrink sleeve without the solder so I stop using that type. The sleeve on these have a silicone in them when they get heated up when properly done. I can see someone who doesn’t know how to work with these have that issue so that is a good suggestion to have another seal cover the hole connections after complete. Wouldn’t hurt. To answer your suggestion on the lights on the back of the fascia facing the wall. Installed this way for one of my clients because they asked for it to begin and they ended up not liking it. They would rather have the triangle effect like shown in my videos instead of blasting light shown on the wall. Of course they paid me to re do it and it wasn’t worth the hours and headaches we got from it so I’ll never bring that up. I do mention to all my clients that it isn’t track lighting. Most of them are ok with it because it’s a knockoff from bigger types of lighting at a lower cost. For the ones that will pay to paint the lights to match the soffit, I’ll do it for them. Also have to consider a house I did had 4 different soffits spacing in the front alone, some 5inches some 12 inches and the others in between. Casting would've been different in those areas. So to keep everything even as I always recommend 2 to 4 inches. Thank you, this will help with someone’s install
Do you have a video showing your install with the lights installed onto the fascia board having the lights pointing back at the house? What was the estimated distance between the light to the house?
Literally the comment I was looking for !!!! I wasn't sure if the lights would light up decent if I did that, because I noticed that if I installed them as you did it would preety much conceal them...
The normal version is H705. By your model type, you have the Elites. There isn’t a Y-split available on the market that we know of. We try and stay away from Y-split as the strands mirror each other. So for instance, you run a Govee scene, you won’t tell. When you start creating solid colors or accent lighting, you won’t have individual control on the strands tied into each other
Not necessarily. This video is older than the other ones. If you have a top left or right soffit outlet or vise versa, they can be powered for both top and bottom install of strands going the same direction. You would want to try and install devices near the front of the house to be able to control them without issues and a kit in the back would only be controlled in the back. Let me know if you have any other questions
No they are not. This is a Govee DIY product. Trim light uses pixels, others use pucks lights that snap into a track. Most of those companies charge 5-7k for 100ft install. We are just meticulous with all our installs and we install above the manufacturer’s recommendations to last longer
Each house varies. A straight line house 1 story and 2 story are adjusted prices. 1 or 2 story home with multiple peaks goes up in price due to the amount of custom jumps we have to make. That would mean splicing, solder sleeving and line match. At the moment we are booked for the season. Please reach out at the end of the year if you would like a quote. Thank you. Visit the links to my social media platforms at the top of my RUclips channel
Hi there. Thanks for watching. At the beginning of the video there is the planning for a guide. The longer jumps we used the 12’ blank extensions provided by Govee, the rest of the jumps were 3-18awg wire. Hope this helps
I cut mine right before the quick connect with the 3 pins and when I splice them and put them together after a 7 feet extension the rest of the lights did not light up anymore 😢
What was the total linear length of lights installed on this video? And if you have a constraint of 150’ per controller, how do you get all lights to be in sync?
I think he said it was 100 feet in the beginning. Govee sells a light show box that can control multiple lights using Bluetooth and can also synchronize them to music
Hi guys, thanks for watching. Been super busy with Christmas and Govee installs so I apologize for the delay. We used two 100ft kits as one side was 95ft and then the other side was another 95ft. We were able to group the controllers in same model group. Yes the the light show box your talking about is this one, see link below amzn.to/3Td0cOA
so that entire strip was powered from one location? im asking bc i was going to power from 2 spots bc i didnt know i could cut and extend where i didnt need lights in order to get to the second floor. also does it need to stay on constant power or can it be on a switch and still function properly?
Thanks for your comment. At the beginning of the video, it showed two outlets on the back left and right. We only captured 100ft kit to show how to connect, set up that all your strands and make sure they work before install. It was 95 ft to the left and 95ft to the right so this install had 2-100ft kits which were grouped later in the app. I have installed the lights to an outlet that was in a switch so no not necessarily consistent power if that’s all you have. Just know if you’re somewhere and want to control your lights you won’t be able to cause that outlets in a switch.
@@jbsdiytv okay that answers my question then. I didn't know you could pair them together so that they would sync up. I'm that case I can wire from 2 spots constant and have them on a timer within the app.. Than you sir
Jb … thanks for the vid. Just finished my install. Only snag was on the jumps. I used my own 18 gauge 3-wire but my jumps needed to be 11’. The system didn’t work until I shortened the jumps to about 6’. What do I do if I need longer jumps at 11’ or 12’ ? Will use if the two 12’ jumps supplied by Govee do the trick? What if you don’t have male and female Govee ends to add on like in your video? Appreciate the help. Thanks for the reply.
Awesome. Glad the videos could help with your install. What kit did you end up buying? Pros or no Pros? Once you provide me with lil more info to the kit you bought I should be able to help out. One thing I can say is that if you need more than 12ft jumps we have spliced 3-4ft in the middle of the 12ft extension. The signal boxes in the Govee extensions need to remain
I have the H705C kit. 150’ with two 12’ Govee extensions. I needed to cut and splice at two different points to reach a roof peak. I used 18 gauge 3-wire jumps that were initially about 11’ each. This resulted in flickering about half way past the first jump. When trouble shooting, I cut the first jump down to about 6’ and the prob was solved until the next jump. When I cut the second 11’ jump down to about 6’ … entire prob solved and entire system works fine. But I really need those two jumps to be about 11’ each to hide and run the wires correctly.
@edhammel9535 I see. It’s tough to splice with the 12ft extension on the 150ft kit since they have them on both ends. You could purchase the Asahom 6ft extension from my site to use their connections
Yes sir they are. I understand that the line can be seen and everyone mentions that but other than that, why spend 2,000 extra on something else when you can improvise with these. Awesome, glad it all worked out. 💪 👊 Hey look it this way, you can do a review on it. Every one of my videos is Creative Commons so you have my permission to use my video as an example👌
@@martybli thank you for watching my video. If you decide to do this on the picket side(usually to the street) then the white wire will stand out and the lights will need to be put on their sides if you want the triangle effect. Or you can face them out. If you do it on the inside, it would work on the edge of the top rail 2x4 with the adhesive pad and clips. This install will be close to a home installation look.
@@jbsdiytv I know you can't do any more than 150 ft of lights but if the house is bigger than that, do you just need to connect it to a different outlet? And can you sync up the different 150 light strands if you had two different segments?
Whats happens if you exceed the 150ft light? I bought two 100 ft packs just curious. I will probably wire the back side of my house with the extra 50ft if it just cant be done
There are two types outdoor permanent lights. Once being the non pros and the pros. Please specify which 100ft kit you purchased as each example doesn’t apply to the other
@Scott-iw8yr ok thank you for that info. On the 150ft non pro kit which is model H705C supports 9 strands(9 segments) 108 lights. Anything pass this one device model will not light up nor read in the app. Yes buy a 50ft and add them in same model group to control as one
Hey sir. How you doing? I bought 2 set of 50ft. I was planning to connect all 6 string to one power supply can that be done? When I need to do 3 jumps One of 17ft, 11ft and 9ft The first jump I have to cut between lights in the 2nd string I use 18g wire and make sure all the connections are good I power up and only 1 light turn on after the jump. The wire jump is 17ft What do you do when you do jumps like that?
amzn.to/3XgX8kY they also sale 100ft rolls as well. If it’s the pros, splice between a Govee extension to keep data frequency disturbance to a minimum. Same goes with the non pros, elites and gen 2’s
I bought the 150 ft. I have those areas above the garage as seen in the video. I will have to cut. I wanted to know if I can cut the 150 feet. I am not sure if it says it cannot support more than 150 feet of light or more than 150 feet of wire. Please help
Currently we are in our Christmas light installation season so we need to take care of our Christmas light clients. We have a list of 14 on hold and slowly adding one install per week. If you would like to be on our list for install please message us on the social links at the top our our channel
No it’s when you splice the wire and you need to bring the wire back together , you use the waterproof heat shrink solder sleeve to bring them together for a solid bond. Then you use the heat gun to shrink it. I don’t recommend taping or crimping it
Man, excellent video. Thank you for not trying to be a ridiculously acting "Influencer". Extremely informative!
Thank you for watching. We really appreciate your support

Hello I have question?? How much do you charge for installation of the lights
Thank you for sharing. Where did you purchase your plastic clips that you used to secure the wire?
Yes sir not a problem. Thanks for watching and your support

Have you done an install where the lights were facing out?
No we have not. Govee lights are intended to be installed on the soffit. Facing out will take away from how they are intended to look or installed
Damn, i got mine further away from the house. I hope i can move them back some. Just put a strand up.
😁just one strand, you can still move it
Great video! What gauge Brad and what settings do you use on your Ryobi air strike? Thank You Tom
Hi Tom, thanks for watching our content. We are using 18 guage - 1” brad nails since our Ryobi Brad Nail gun requires 18gauge only. Follow what is recommended on your tool. Thanks for your comment
Hi! I’m in Cibolo, Tx in a very similar one story home as in this video. I would also appreciate if you could give me a quote for install. Thanks!
I cut my Govee permanent outdoor lights in 6 different places. So basically I have six extensions of 18g 3 wire. And they work perfect
That’s awesome. How long were your jumps?
@@jbsdiytv Four 10' jumps, two 6' jumps.
Nice..1st Generation lights or Pro’s. The pros just have magic wires for some reason lol
Each side after using the provide extension and our custom jumps the total feet added is 124ft under the recommended 150ft
If you buy a 150ft kit, it’s a different story.
That wire was 20gauge, if you need to jump that then use something thicker between 16-18gauge wire
Forgive me if this is already answered:
You mention the white/green/red wire should only be used for “smaller jumps.” “Smaller” is relative.
Hope this helps you
I ordered a 150 foot kit and believe it only came with 1 extension cable
@SGMercer it should come with two 12’ Govee extensions. Check one more time, if it doesn’t have it then reach out to Govee website for support and let them know
When you say that wire should only be used for smaller jumps. What length would you consider to be smaller?
We typically use the 18-3 or 20-3 for at least 2-3ft jumps if we have one or two jumps and 1-2ft if we have three to five jumps. If you have jumps longer than 6ft I don’t recommend using this with out some kind of data booster or splicing some lights in your custom extension because the lights themselves can be used as data boosters
I got the 100ft goove permanent light pro lights. I think I am only putting the lights in front of the house and will have about 20ft left. can I just cut at the end and does the 100ft comes if different roles or is just one long string?
Hi and thanks for watching. You can cut them. The strands come 16ft 7inch in length and have 10 lights in each strand. It comes with 6 strands
If I come to the end of a section and. Were to cut the strip and not continue it, how do I simply seal off the end of the light strip if it’s a cut end?
Use non concentrated plastic dip in a can, not spray. Use can melt glue as an alternative but that will get brittle over time
www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9SK8XY/?tag=jbsditv-20
Great thank you. I assume each of the three wires dipped separately?
Spread them away 1/4” from each other so you don’t have small copper strands touching together and then dip it all
Have you ever installed on a fully perforated/vented vinyl soffit?

Oh I’m sorry about that. Must of missed it. I will place it in the description now. Thank you. The link is available

The Brad nailer I used was a Ryobi 18gauge with 1” nails. The links are in the description so you know the exact info of the products. Thanks for watching

@corvettetexan thank you for your compliment
What is the distance between each led light? Is there a maximum distance you can go with the extension, I'll be using he 20awg wires for that purpose.
Hey I have a question in the product description it says not to cut it but you did cut, that is possible then and what extension cable to use
The link to the 18-3 wire is in the description. You can also use 20-3 if it isn’t available but keep them under 2ft to avoid voltage drop. You can splice between the 12ft extension provided by Govee but keep that under 18ft
What's the best distance you recommend from wall for best results? Thanks
Hi there. We install all our lights 2-4” from wall. You will get a nice triangle effect and it looks clean. Most want to get away from those measurements and get a round look but that looks somewhat ok for the scene modes but does not look good when accent lighting is used. Hope this info helps
Are the clips you used the ones listed as LED clips in your description?
You can use those in the description or give see my Govee/AliExpress video for the naming of the clips
I may have missed it but are you using one controller for the two 100ft kits or did you link the two somehow? If linked how and how many can be linked?
Hi there thanks for watching. I used two controllers and power adapters. They can be grouped in same model
holy cow - I was freaked out you were going to cut yourself but great video! I've always wondered about wasting pieces you know?
lol, thanks for your support to our channel. When we do installs, we literally take about an 1 hour or so of planning/thinking before we start. It’s a must with these lights. Need to do as less customizing of wire as possible so we try and start our connections at eave jumps but take in consideration where the peek light will land
@@jbsdiytv Have you thought of a way to do the flood lights but go across sidewalk?
@DesiSegundoIII I have not really worked with the flood lights before, just know that they can be grouped and be controlled together in the app
On the 150ft can you use both 12 extension cords in a row to make a 24ft extension cord without any issues?
Don’t use them back to back to make 24ft, it will cause flickering. What we have done is use a few lights in between the extensions so they act as data boosters

Why do you nail the clips twice? It looks like you're nailing in the hole and then next to it?
3.) when they say permanent we shoot for permanent and for them not to fall years later

how is the quality of these lights?
Question as to soldering connections. Does the light kit require that the connectors between each strand be used? For instance most of my extensions happen at the ends and beginnings of light sections but I have to make jumpers between levels, etc. I don’t 12 feet of cable between each section.
What kit did you end up buying?
@@jbsdiytv 100 foot kit. I essentially have 3 connection points that have to be fixed/addressed.
Not so much dormers as there are gaps that I don’t want to have a light hit because of the weirdness and spacing. Talking like 2-3 feet.
Also this video shows a 100ft kit. So that’s what I was going off of. Just trying to determine if the connectors of each strip can be cut and the cables connected via your solder connection technique.
If prices are the same would there be a difference for me to buy 3 x 50ft kits as opposed to buying the 150ft kit?
Typically 50ft kits are 199. That’s almost 600 for all 3. The 150ft kit usually runs 449. There are deals online currently but I recommend just buying the 150ft if you need that much. It’s good practice to run one controller instead of multiple because the WiFi and Bluetooth sucks in same model grouping

You can splice lights in a custom strand as they act like data boosters.

How much was this job?
Are you looking for a qoute?
Is it possible to shorten the strand? I need 90 feet, so a 100 foot strand would leave 10 feet.
Hi there John, yes it can. You will need to end with groups of 4 lights. Not 3 and not 7. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching
Did you just use one controller for all of these lights?
2” from the wall
@@joseluisperezjr3285Yea, i'm also interested in seeing how your installed lights look .
Thanks for the video I bought the normal version h805c and having trouble splitting like a Y...Do we have any connectors for the same?
The normal version is H705. By your model type, you have the Elites. There isn’t a Y-split available on the market that we know of. We try and stay away from Y-split as the strands mirror each other. So for instance, you run a Govee scene, you won’t tell. When you start creating solid colors or accent lighting, you won’t have individual control on the strands tied into each other
Best video out of them all. Love how it turned out
Really appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching and your support
Great video. What would they look like if installed closer to wall then 2"? I have some side areas where there is no overhang.
So if we need to install like 450 feet total, they will have to be plug in 3 different places, right?
Not necessarily. This video is older than the other ones. If you have a top left or right soffit outlet or vise versa, they can be powered for both top and bottom install of strands going the same direction. You would want to try and install devices near the front of the house to be able to control them without issues and a kit in the back would only be controlled in the back. Let me know if you have any other questions
What kind of nail gun are you using with nail size?
Ryobi Brushless 18gauge nail gun 1” nails
Are these lights the same as companies like trim light, Astoria, jelly fish, etc uses?
No they are not. This is a Govee DIY product. Trim light uses pixels, others use pucks lights that snap into a track. Most of those companies charge 5-7k for 100ft install. We are just meticulous with all our installs and we install above the manufacturer’s recommendations to last longer
How much do you charge for the install?
Each house varies. A straight line house 1 story and 2 story are adjusted prices. 1 or 2 story home with multiple peaks goes up in price due to the amount of custom jumps we have to make. That would mean splicing, solder sleeving and line match. At the moment we are booked for the season. Please reach out at the end of the year if you would like a quote. Thank you.

I was wdonering, how did you get the bottom of the house to connect to top? It doesnt look like yoiu used same string for everything. Or did you?
Hi there. Thanks for watching. At the beginning of the video there is the planning for a guide. The longer jumps we used the 12’ blank extensions provided by Govee, the rest of the jumps were 3-18awg wire. Hope this helps
how much for the installation? im in texas too
Where in Texas are you? We are pretty booked for the season depending if your in SA we can work something out
I cut mine right before the quick connect with the 3 pins and when I splice them and put them together after a 7 feet extension the rest of the lights did not light up anymore 😢
How long was your jump?
How can I get someone to install govee lights in Oklahoma
I can ask on the FB Govee group I’m in to see if there are any installers. If there isn’t, I don’t mind traveling to take care of your install
Yes the the light show box your talking about is this one, see link below

so that entire strip was powered from one location? im asking bc i was going to power from 2 spots bc i didnt know i could cut and extend where i didnt need lights in order to get to the second floor. also does it need to stay on constant power or can it be on a switch and still function properly?
@thebionichandman8967 yup you can group them. Go to home, then to group, plus symbol, then same-model group
Did you mention that those 12’ Govee extensions have “signal boxes” ?
@edhammel9535 I see. It’s tough to splice with the 12ft extension on the 150ft kit since they have them on both ends. You could purchase the Asahom 6ft extension from my site to use their connections
@edhammel9535 lnk.bio/jbsdiytv shop permanent lighting accessories on my site and look for the Asahom 6ft extension with amplifier

Are you in San Antonio area?
We are located in SA, yes
What is the size of that little block you are using to place the lights so they are even? 2” x 2”?
That’s correct. Thank you for watching our content
I got two of the 150’ kits and did the whole house and entire perimeter fence in the backyard. These lights are fantastic
Yes sir they are. I understand that the line can be seen and everyone mentions that but other than that, why spend 2,000 extra on something else when you can improvise with these. Awesome, glad it all worked out. 💪 👊
Hey look it this way, you can do a review on it. Every one of my videos is Creative Commons so you have my permission to use my video as an example👌
How do you do the perimeter fence? Do you have them pointing down?
@@martybli thank you for watching my video. If you decide to do this on the picket side(usually to the street) then the white wire will stand out and the lights will need to be put on their sides if you want the triangle effect. Or you can face them out. If you do it on the inside, it would work on the edge of the top rail 2x4 with the adhesive pad and clips. This install will be close to a home installation look.
@@jbsdiytv I know you can't do any more than 150 ft of lights but if the house is bigger than that, do you just need to connect it to a different outlet? And can you sync up the different 150 light strands if you had two different segments?
@benbarlow6135 please message us on Facebook @Jbs Holiday and Christmas Lighting LLC or Instagram @ jbsholidayandchristmaslighting
Whats happens if you exceed the 150ft light? I bought two 100 ft packs just curious. I will probably wire the back side of my house with the extra 50ft if it just cant be done
There are two types outdoor permanent lights. Once being the non pros and the pros. Please specify which 100ft kit you purchased as each example doesn’t apply to the other
@@jbsdiytv Yeah mine are non pro. I know the pro version supports 200ft.
@Scott-iw8yr ok thank you for that info. On the 150ft non pro kit which is model H705C supports 9 strands(9 segments) 108 lights. Anything pass this one device model will not light up nor read in the app. Yes buy a 50ft and add them in same model group to control as one
Where are you guys located? Curious if you guys are in central Florida?
Central Texas
@@jbsdiytv damn would have loved to hire you guys for an install.
Hey sir. How you doing?
I bought 2 set of 50ft. I was planning to connect all 6 string to one power supply can that be done? When I need to do 3 jumps One of 17ft, 11ft and 9ft
The first jump I have to cut between lights in the 2nd string I use 18g wire and make sure all the connections are good
I power up and only 1 light turn on after the jump. The wire jump is 17ft
What do you do when you do jumps like that?
where you get the extra wire to be able to do long connections between roofs ?
amzn.to/3XgX8kY they also sale 100ft rolls as well. If it’s the pros, splice between a Govee extension to keep data frequency disturbance to a minimum. Same goes with the non pros, elites and gen 2’s
@@jbsdiytvthank you
I bought the 150 ft. I have those areas above the garage as seen in the video. I will have to cut. I wanted to know if I can cut the 150 feet. I am not sure if it says it cannot support more than 150 feet of light or more than 150 feet of wire.
Please help
How could i contract you?

@@jbsdiytv do you know anyone that can install these lights in Laredo Tx? I can’t seem to find any company.
We don’t know anyone
I think we need to talk about the dude on the ladder that just vaporized into another dimension.
What do you use to secure the lights/clips on a metal (aluminum) soffit?
Use a thread that is closer together so it won’t strip. Self tapping or self piercing screws would be ideal.

@@jbsdiytv Thank you for the quick reply! You are awesome.
Your welcome. Thanks for the support
What is a heat shrink sleeve? Is that the same thing as the govee extension?
No it’s when you splice the wire and you need to bring the wire back together , you use the waterproof heat shrink solder sleeve to bring them together for a solid bond. Then you use the heat gun to shrink it. I don’t recommend taping or crimping it
