Thank you so much for this video and helping to pick out which is best for which house/look features! I was leaning more light strip at first, but after seeing how you can distance out the permanent outdoor lights to avoid the harsh looking triangles, I am actually thinking of grabbing those for my place!
I was afraid to put them so far away from the house because they recommend 4 inches but i think it looked great plus i feel like the string is less noticeable.
I had a few Twinkly lights, but they failed miserably, specially the one for outdoor, if you have a good isolated home with triple or quadruple glass sliding doors, Wifi will not get through so changing its lights was a pain. It lost everytime it's connection and you had to open the slidedoors all the way open to re-setup the damn lights. Indoor version 1 was the same, fail after fail. So, nice that you show this, and it is nice to see, but it is still not perfect. I now only use Arduino programmable leds WS2813B in my own home. (Gave all the lights away, despite the high price)
Great video! Unfortunately the lights look very tacky if not installed closer to the wall. Therefore the effects are not fully there. You should install them all, 3-4 inches from the wall, this was the light would be more visible when reflecting on the walls.
Great video, thanks :-) Is it possible to "program" a section/strand of lights within the app? (eg. can the LED's be controlled invidually?) This is specifically meant for the permanent lights 2.
I am actually going to try to install these around my restaurant as well as on my sign. Which one of these were the best in your opinion. Durability but also pricewise.
I think the Lights 2 or the Pro option would look really good with its ability to have the warm lighting option for standard lighting during the year. The Lights 2 will be the best value.
I have the first gen and lookimg at the pros more often i shouldve waited, and now that im ready to pull the trigger on the pros i feel like i should just wait
Great video. I'm considering the outdoor pro's and it is my understanding that you can control each light independently? For off holidays I would like to light up the house with white accents but maybe only light every 5th or 6th bulb. I saw your video of the Phillips Hue soffit lights which are really nice, but I need a surface mount solution for eaves. You do have me looking at the other offerings from Phillips though.
Hi Brett, thanks for the video. In your opinion, what do you prefer for the placement of the lights on the soffit, closer or further out from house? Our house is a darker red vinyl siding. Thanks
I prefer them around 4 to 6 inches off the wall. This lights up your house very nicely. From what I have seen the siding color doesn't affect the light color at all.
Great video, exactly what I needed thank you. Do these lights only really work with roofs that stick out slightly? Im wanting them but only have the plastic roof verges, would that be too close to the house ?
As long as you have one inch of overhang it should work to attach the lights to it. The pattern will just be a bit more pointy vs round than if it was further away.
Thank you for the video. It provides great examples of each set. I’ve been contemplating on which ones to get. So customization down to the individual lights is available on all of these? Are you able to just have certain lights turned on too? Thank you!
Hopefully this helped. Yes, each set of light has the same feature where you can choose sections of lights to be a specific color or you can even change every individual light and save that as a preset.
On the Strip lights pro. Can you connect multiple light strips? I have like 250' that I need to cover. Maybe do like 125' on way then 125' the other way if 250' is too long. Thanks
The max it can go is 200', so it would be best to get a 150ft set and a 100 ft set, or another 150ft set so you have some extra strings. Then they can be grouped in the app and controlled together.
I like having the Govee that is able to cover all corners of the home. Here is what I did with my pot lights to give an example to compare the Govee to. ruclips.net/video/yePr5PmNE88/видео.html
First of all. Thank you for this video. It was great to see the comparison between all the different kits. But, I don't feel like it was a fair comparison between the Original Govee, Govee 2 and Govee Pro because the Pros were mounted so far from the wall. I don't feel like we were able to get the full effect of the additional brightness.
Sorry I couldn't get them all the same. Here is another video I have done about the Govee Lights Pro where I put them close to the home. The good news is they all look great! ruclips.net/video/-yKFTJ-ijaQ/видео.htmlsi=jEynI7rDbbH_pu6H
I'm a big fan of Govee products, my most recent being the TV backlight T2 which is amazing. Unfortunately I stay UK, Scotland to be precise and these would completely stick out in my cul-de-sac. The only days I'd get full use of them would be Halloween and the lead up to Christmas. As sad as it is but having these ON, even on a reduced setting would attract the wrong attention, now if the gun laws were to change here then I'm sold on them. I do want them though but will have a think. Good video thanks.
@@jcm9698 Nah mate I think I’m good for the security, I think 4 IPCams, 3 Security lights, 2 Motion sensors, a blink doorbell and full intruder system is enough. Sometimes too much is just too much and as attractive as it looks it won’t fit in. Anyway it would be a waste to only use it as reduced generic lighting. A real shame as my family love the T2 TV backlights. 🇬🇧
Can the Govee 2 lights be cut /stretch? I have an area were I can install 4 lights and would want to cut them add about 4 feet of wire and then continue the same strand.
Depends what you mean by "can". The only model Govee lists as cuttable, and makes a connector/extension kit for, are the Pro's, not the 2's. Govee list the Lights 2 as non-cuttable. That said, it can be done, but you have to be able to jerry rig it. It's quite doable if you have the know how, but there's a few things to be aware of. One is, since the 2's are listed as "non-cuttable", doing so will void the warranty. The next is that since you'll have to solder your own connections, so you're responsible for doing that safely for an outdoor electrical device, which includes making sure the connection is waterproof. And if your soldering is a bit dodgy, you can introduce errors in the data transmission problems. Finally, keep in mind that if you will either have to solder the splice in while on a ladder, which is inconvenient and dangerous, or you need to do it on the ground, which means you need to measure everything precisely before you put it up. So you should regard yourself as competent at hobby electronics if you want to do that. If you get the Pro's, they are listed as cuttable and Govee make a push in connector and extension piece which doesn't need soldering, so they can be cut/extended easily. Another solution I've seen is to just run the light string itself across the 4 ft gap and put electrical tape over the lights in that area to mask them. Obviously that wastes a few lights, but it's only 3 or so for a gap of that length.
I noticed the tiny print of the version 2 says power supply needs to be inside. Is that why you put it in garage ? I was hoping that could plug into deck outside plug and mount on soffet...Thoughts?
Yes they do. There is an option to quickly change segments (4 lights one color) quickly, or you can pick what color each individual LED is and save that pattern.
Hi great video!! I’ve just purchased the Govee outdoor lights pro from Amazon but the white square brackets you use aren’t in the box? Is it possible to purchase them? Thank you 🙏 Also you ordering three extra strands? Where do I get these and if I need “driver module” ?
Yeah, so let's say you have 2 roof layers like a lower layer and higher layer. When you reach the end of your first floor of the house, at the end of the light strip you would add the 12ft extension that brings power to the next row of lights onto the second level where you can then finish the lights. You could also use it if you have a cap from one part of the house to another to jump the lights to the next area.
Hi Brett I got the elite lights with 100 ft but got short Planning to get another one with 50 ft My question is can I extend with the first set already have when both going to be the same model ??
One Elite set can be a total of 150ft feet. So if you only have 100ft so far, you can add another 150ft. And yes they both need to be elite sets but I think Govee also calls those Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2.
Hi Brett I installed the extension cables I needed it and works fine Just only one detail Needs to go to settings and put how many segments It’s up to 9 segments Thanks so much again for the help
What do you do if you need to cover more than 200ft with govee lights pro. Do you just get another set and run separately? It looks like max length is 200ft unless you run a complete seperate set, they can't be combined past 200ft is that correct?
That is correct. The power doesn't work past 200 ft as you might have some off colors after that. So you can get two sets that would be the length you need and then set automations to control them both at the same time.
If buy the 100' outdoor lights 2, does it come with 1 100' cord of lights or does it come with 2 50' cord of lights? Reason I ask is because I'll need to "jump" from 1 story to the 2nd story on my house.
Has anyone had/heard of issues with only a few of the strings working? Trying to figure out if i am doing something wrong because it feels strange thst some work fine but others dont even attempt to power brand new out of the box
Make sure you plug them all in, then plug into power. Also, set them up in the app, do the latest update and then calibrate them if it is the Pro version. If none of those work you may need to warranty.
I have the strip they come with clips. So hopefully that last. I have stucco and the adhesive has trouble connecting since it's not flat surface. Also I didn't know you can chose power cable color cause mine came in black so the cord stand out.
Did the Pro's really not look as bright and vibrant as the 2 or was it just the house coloring? I thought I was all in for pro but don't show as well as the 2's.
I think because we ended up putting the Pro model at the end of the soffit it didn't reflect as bright on the house but they are definitely brighter. Also the pros don't have has many lights per string as the 2s so that they aren't too over powering but probably came through as not as bright on video.
If you have about one inch over hang you would be able to put them there. If not, you may need to configure some sort of track to attach to your home and then have the lights inside it or on it.
It depends on 3 things: Length, Home complexity, and Warm colors. If you need 200 ft, get the Pro. If you have multiple jumps where you need splices that don't line up with the 16.5' lengths, get the Pro. And if you want to have the absolute warmest white color available, go Pro. After installing a few of these the Pro is certainly nice to have and makes the install a bit easier, but after some planning the Lights 2 lengths and extension work out just fine, and the improved 4000k warmer lighting looks really nice.
There is a button that allows you to turn them on and off but you can't do much more than that. You can set them up on WiFi and create a schedule so you don't need to use the app to turn them on daily.
@@TechWithBrett so the button is just to turn them on and off and that’s it? I don’t want to use it the app due to the security concerns over privacy Govee has. Wish they had a remote control. Do you know of any other similar outdoor lighting that could be controlled outside of an app or at least one that doesn’t connect to a server ?
Interesting you should ask. I just finished installing another set today by a company called Appeck and it has a remote. I need to do more testing with it, but video should be ready in two weeks.
Led stripes with a digquad or diguno running wled, never look back. Forget stringing lamp cord all over the house like our grandparents did with C9 bulbs. Strips have way more complexity than those pods. I currently have 850 pixels on strips that are in aluminum channel, can't do that with the pods.
I just bought a govee pro (19.5" between lights) my plan is to install them 14" apart and just cover the loose wire in between.. have you ever seen like this set up before or its just me so far? I want to use more light as possible instead of cutting all the eztras. My space to install is about 80ft and I bought 100ft and don't want to cut the whole 20ft excess light and use at least few of the extras. Do you see any issues? Or it would be a better lightings coverage? Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you
Great question. Are you planning on putting them close to the house or at the edge? I was actually thinking about this way (after I finished this install) and thought it might be a good way to hide the cable in some of the cover pieces and secure it more. The hardest part would be making the lines coming out of the LED be flush and hidden but it might just work. Some of the edges might not let you move the cable under that far. Making them be closer would be pretty bright but you can always lower the brightness a bit. I would just do some extra testing and measuring before committing to it.
@@TechWithBrett yes, i was planning to put them 4" away from the wall as recommended by govee so triangle effect will be visible in the night when they're on. I bought a wire hider to make sure the loose wire of each light will be covered. Thank you for your input.
I don't mind traveling. My travel, rates is 1.00 a mile zip to zip so about 800 plus my 5.00 /-lf so 200ft would be 1000+800.00 you could use a coupon for 10% off
The effect is good, but there are better results, we are producing this type of products, the effect and quality are very good, I hope to communicate with you
Awful mounting design and this is your "Pro Version". For what you spend on these lights you would expect better mounts for the lights. Every video out there shows the lights come with a nice mounting bracket the goes over the light, clips to the cord, and screws in. Not at all what you get. 1. The 3M tape is a joke even with prepping properly the tape will not hold long enough to finish one string before they start falling off. 2. The mounting clips they do send only comes 5 per strand of lights. Not nearly enough to make up for the lack of performance from the 3M tape. Lights still come off between the clips. 3. Returns is where they make there money!!! When I inquired on retuning them I have to pay for the shipping and there is a 25% Restocking Fee. Are you kidding me. No wonder you make it hard for people to enjoy them when you make so much off the restocking fee. Don't waste you your time or money on these lights. They are anything but permanent!!!
Getting these put up does take a bit of work, but the end results are amazing! What lighting set are you going with?
I think the Govee 2 for us.

The 100' Lights 2 comes with 6 different 16.5' lengths and 2 12' and 2 4' extension so that you can make the jump to the second story.
I just bought the pro one and the power supply says indoor use/dry location only. Is that what you have too? I thought these are waterproof 😢
The Pro should be weather resistant. As long as it is not hitting in a pool of water it should be fine.
Are the led strip lights permanent?
Until the adhesive fails unless you secure them.
I have the strip they come with clips. So hopefully that last. I have stucco and the adhesive has trouble connecting since it's not flat surface. Also I didn't know you can chose power cable color cause mine came in black so the cord stand out.
@@TechWithBrettdo they sell like a Y splitter so that I can use 1 power and controller but going different direction.
How would install these lights where there is no eve or soffit?
If you have about one inch over hang you would be able to put them there. If not, you may need to configure some sort of track to attach to your home and then have the lights inside it or on it.
Will these lights work in cold conditions such as -30 celsius?
Yes
Awesome video.
can be govee 2 be as fast as the strip. Looks like the strip is faster and the efects are like more show...
You can certainly turn up the lights 2 animation speed bit I would turn some of them down so they wouldn't be too flashy.
Was 150’ light enough for the first house? Or did you need to buy two of those?
In the first house I ended up only needing 6 strings which is 100'. The second out was like 115'. And 3rd house was 200'.
How would you pick between outdoor lights 2 vs the pro?
It depends on 3 things: Length, Home complexity, and Warm colors. If you need 200 ft, get the Pro. If you have multiple jumps where you need splices that don't line up with the 16.5' lengths, get the Pro. And if you want to have the absolute warmest white color available, go Pro.
After installing a few of these the Pro is certainly nice to have and makes the install a bit easier, but after some planning the Lights 2 lengths and extension work out just fine, and the improved 4000k warmer lighting looks really nice.
@@TechWithBrett if I were to email you picture of my house would you tell me how you would go about running the lights on it?
Totally. Just send front and left and right side. You can also message me on other platforms if that is easier.
@@TechWithBrett what is your email address?
@@TechWithBrett what is your email address and I’ll send something over.
I noticed Costco's sell Govee outdoor lighting .
Should I buy the pro or 2?
If you want it to perfectly match, get Pro. If you want to just make it work, look great and save money, get the 2.
What about the elite version?
From what I can tell the Elite sold are Costco are the same model as the Govee Outdoor Permanent Lights 1.
@@TechWithBrett Yes, I noticed Costco's has them too .
Amazing, now I have to fight the urge to get these.......
Where is the link to clips, can you please share.
Here you go: amzn.to/4cKxIC7
@@TechWithBrett thank you.
The "middle white" would be the most white the warmer and cooler introduce more non white color be it yellow or blue
and my man keeps referring to 2k-5k ranges and confounding which end is the warm one
(pssst- it's not the higher number....)
Is there a way to use these lights without the app?
Know of any installer for Poconos Pa
I don't mind traveling. My travel, rates is 1.00 a mile zip to zip so about 800 plus my 5.00 /-lf so 200ft would be 1000+800.00 you could use a coupon for 10% off
And then pay cash for another 10% off so 360 off leaves 1440 200 ft lights installed
The effect is good, but there are better results, we are producing this type of products, the effect and quality are very good, I hope to communicate with you
where did you get the clips that go around the lights? i only see the clips that attach to the wire. Thank you.
Those come with the Govee Lights 2 set.
Soooo 2 or pro??
I you need to cut the lights to jump a lot of gaps, go Pro. If not I think the Lights 2 are a great option.
Red white blue testing
One thing I'm disappointed with my Govee outdoor permanent lights is there really is no purple color. Just pink. 😢
Hmm. I guess I would say the purple is slightly lighter but that is good feedback.
I thought they had a color wheel where u can choose any colour
There’s purple what are you talking about ?
They showed purple in this video 🤷🏻
Are you color blind?
Does anyone here have these on a brick ranch?
who do you typically ask to install this? A electrician?
Yes I have heard of Electricians doing this. You could also look for a Christmas Light installer, a Handyman, or a Low Voltage Electrical Installer.
Handyman services
I honestly dont think these look good. I prefer the old school c9 look
