  • I installed a 'Butterfly" Trekking handle bars by UNO on my 1981 Miyata 1000 vintage bicycle I plan to use on my JAPAN Hokkaido Bicycle Touring this Fall. Having carpal tunnel gave reasons to upgrade for a 1000+ km journey. Four hand positions for the comfort of a long distance adventure ride!
    A 6061 aluminum construction 570mm Bore 25.4 Black bars fits perfectly into my vintage stem. Avoiding spending $$$ I used some spare BMX lever parts/cables. A 'Third eye" rear view adjustable mirror fitted into the bar end handles also great for steep climbs hand position.
    These bars could be installed in different angles or direction you choose is comfortable for you.
    special dedication at the end

      CaptainBobAdventures Thanks Capt.!👍😃 I definitely love the bars, feels awesome! I never get tired of this scenery close to my home and is my get away place for bikepacking. It's the most cleanest beautiful preserved beaches and trails on Island under Wildlife Preservation! Sucks no camping! The beach goes miles and miles of secluded white sand beaches and palm trees up to northern tip of island.. unfortunately it's off limits by the USAF military. 😬☹

      jugglerjim01 Thank you 👍😃 Yeah it's unfortunate many tourist, even locals ignore the warning signs and the Rangers verbal warnings taking risks going out to the reef line just to take an epic selfie. Many tourist and locals have lost their lives there unfortunately. The ignorance of those people could cost their own lives if not others, had not they went out no one would have died. It's the most cleanest beautiful preserved beaches on Island.

    I love the bends on that Trekker bar! It is so hard to buy them online looking at 2d pics. I ended up with Modolo Dumbos but if I were to buy regular trekker, I would want them with these angles. The other bars I have gotten turned out to be flat, no lift for the handles.

    This was a great little video thanks. I have just put butterfly bars on my mountain bike, and I like how you put the bar ends on your bike. I am thinking about putting bar ends like that on mine and using them more out to the sides to give a wider grip when I want - to simulate the original wide mountain bike bars - Do you think that would work? Would you be confident putting weight on those? Thanks

    • @1uniqueislander968
      @1uniqueislander968  5 лет назад +1

      Ronnie O Thank you Ronnie O 👍😁 I am going to try out that idea of yours to get that wide feel since I'm use to wide bars on my MTB. I seen some tourers put extension lower corner giving it a wide back sweep position. Whatever feels comfortable for you should work out fine. Try different positions to find that feel your looking for. I had a fully loaded front handle bar bag on these bars with no problem on my recent Hokkaido tour.

    Do your knees touch the steer when you stand up? I feel I'm close but I'm thinking It may be normal

    • @1uniqueislander968
      @1uniqueislander968  3 года назад

      It's quite normal for this kind of design. Knees dont touch steering when standing. My set up feels comfortable for me. You need to set up yours to your comfort, adjust angle, height or stem length.

    Firstly where do you live man? Is that Japan? Ive always talked about visiting Japan but I never knew it has such beautiful beaches and clear water! I need to go there!! Re the bars, I think I need something for a 3 week tour in France this summer (hopefully). I could set my watch to my sore back. As soon as Ive been cycling for an hour my lower back gets painful. If I sit upright and cycle along not holding the bars, so I can sit up straight my back pain goes away. So I looked at these bars online. I have a question though...it looks like the bars dont actually raise the height of your hands but only move them closer or further away. All the review say they give a more upright position but how is this so if the actual height is not changed? I thought about putting them on then turning them so the bars with the brake levers raise up but it looks like this would make the other portion even lower than the original straight bars I have.

      Thank you 😎👍 Not Japan, I live in a US Territory island of Guam, 2'612km south of Japan in Micronesia.
      The reviews you read meant just as you thought of planning to do with the bars, it becomes like a riser bar with the other side lower. Your stem height may be to short or does not have a rise angle making your bars too low. To avoid this type of set up, a solution for this issue I suggest to install a riser stem, It simply increases the height of your bars. If your steer tube clearance is not long enough for stem height and bars still low you have the option to install a stem riser adaptor. It simply attach to the steer tube and then install stem to the desired height. If your stem is the standard 1 1/8 threadless this will work with many set up options. If you have the threaded or a quil stem like the one I have on my vintage bicycle in this video, a longer base and more upright stem angle will do.
      You have to try these adjustments and set ups to find what works for you base on the bicycle frame design and your height. Hope this helps, any questions let me know. Be safe and enjoy your bicycle tour in France. 😎👍

      @@1uniqueislander968 Thanks for the reply Jason Guam looks beautiful! I think I will try to install a riser stem first as that seems like a lot less hassle for the same effect. A couple of bull bars are great for an alternative hand position.

    Are you worried about breaking fast with your hands so far away on the upper bars

    • @1uniqueislander968
      @1uniqueislander968  4 года назад

      Thanks. No worries, use on flat long roads not on downhills or busy traffic areas. I installed that bar end position for different hand positions for my severe carpal tunnel syndrome on long flat rides. This my personal preferences, you could put it anywhere you feel is comfortable or just go with out it.
