Thanks for the demonstration, this is the only video I came through with the actual showing about the handlebar position and realistic usage, especially the flat part shortens the reach and provides a more upright sitting position was really clear and helpful.

Thanks guys; for every reason you mention - wrist/palm pain, neck ache... - I've been scanning for reviews on various hbars. I think the loopbars are too strict so these are the best option. Just needed some answers on how they may affect those issues above and I found it all here. Very much appreciated, I'll sub for that alone!

I did these on my Hybrid bike I used to have. They look funny, but hey are very comfortable- and perfect for those of us who use our bikes to get to work and back and ride longer distances. Very confortable and I like that they give me plenty of room for accessories. My "new to me" bike is a 90's era steel mountain bike, which has the old twist-style shifters, which will pose a slight challenge for me in mounting with ergo grips and room for the brake levers, but I am hoping the shifter/brakes will eventually get replaced with new rapid-fire style shifters as I modify this bike into a solid commuting/touring bike.

I've been using this style of bar now for a few months but have not yet really taken any long rides over 25 miles or more. At first I was stumped as well about mirrors as I've always used Myrracle MTB Bar End mirrors. Just recently I compared a few different bar mounted mirrors by both Hafny and Meachow and found that they both make a pretty decent mirror for this type of bar. If you haven't yet found a mirror yet that works for you with this type of handlebar, then check out either of these brands on Amazon. Now I'm getting ready to tape my bars up thicker so that I have a more comfortable hold on them for longer rides.

There are mirrors that are fixed on the bars like some lights with straps which are good as you can remove them when in lest trustful neighbourhoods. I don't like the bar ends mirrors - experience had them as a fail - they get damaged and or fall out.

My bike is a hybrid with a shorter grip tube which forces a more upright riding position. I used the original stem which had very little forward reach. This was changed very quickly as my knee clipped my bar in a sharp turn and almost brought me off. Butterfly bars are fantastic, no more lower back pain, but I do think they need a stem with some reach due to my 'almost' accident.

I currently have a totally flat bar on my Carrera Gryphon Hybrid with a straight 100mm stem. For me it's too sporty for me now that I use this bike for leisure / gravel and trail riding.

I bought some bullhorn handlebars for my hybrid bike and later realized that my gear shifter don’t fit onto it. The guy in the bike store suggested a butterfly bar so I’ll try to get it set up and see if I like it.
