fog actually causes more lag on n64, it's just a trick to smoothly hide far away objects getting culled out

This game pushes so many more polygons than the OG Rush port. I wish SF Rush looked this great on the 64- it would have been close to arcade-perfect! Scenes like distant hills and the Golden Gate Bridge visible miles away on long jumps really awed you in the 1997 arcade game. But the first N64 port cut that draw distance and hid draw-in with fog.

I played 2049 for years on the Dreamcast, and only discovered that there was a N64 version of it in 2007, years later. And the game really shocked me for being so alike the Dreamcast version. Even the framerate can be achieved with the Expansion Pack. This is definally the best one of the entire series. I can only hope that someday they release another Rush or a spiritual successor.

Sadly Midway Arcade Treasures 3 doesn't do that good a job at most of them. At least on the PS2 version, Rush the Rock has terrible studder and a poor framerate. Worst of all the controls for most of the games are terrible and it also lacks wheel support!

As you can probably gather from my previous comments, this game was in my opinion the absolute closest the series ever was to perfection.
It's so sad that right at the pinnacle the series got shut down. Currently, the brand is owned by Warner Brothers so I doubt we will be seeing another good Rush game much less one at all.
We can still appreciate the legends though.

I got to say that I really appreciate this channel. It helped me get back games I could never actually own when I was younger. Only rent. And it also introduced me to other games that I now adore.
Rush 2049 being the latter, I really enjoyed it. Even more so than other racers I've played on the N64. And I really loved that genre on the system.

Incredible game - we used to play 4 player combat religiously, in many ways I felt it was better than Mario Kart 64! The graphics were in a league of their own, incredibly sharp and detailed combined with epic scale - the control was tight as well. The sound was a massive step up from the prior Rush N64 titles utilising Factor 5 MusyX tech. Good review.

3:25 wow stunt mode is a flashback. Four of us 9-10 year olds sleeping over friends house, someone rented this and we were literally up ALL NIGHT taking turns in stunt mode to see who can get the best score. The one and only time I played this game, but had to be for 8+ hours that night. I remember you could deploy wings while in the air and get longer distances too. Good times.

Explosions and Stuff If you think that's a Rush game, sorry, pal. It's a midnight club clone that was developed as a Fast and Furious game that Midway lost the movie rights to while the game was in development, so they slapped the Rush name on there to try and sell at least a few copies.
It might share the name, but it has nothing to do with the originals. We all would have loved another Rush game, they were right about that, but unfortunately, we never actually got one after 2049. ☹️

This has always been my all-time favorite game. Thank you so much ***** for doing this series, the Rush games are an important part of classic arcade racing history.
This game was tough to beat (complete at least). Takes patience and time, and rewards you for doing so; definitely worth the money. I feel the title has even aged well.
I do feel not mentioning the cheat menu is leaving out a huge part of the game... it took practice to learn how to perform the button combos necessary to activate the menu and each individual cheat. Very rewarding when you can consistently get the cheats activated. This feature breathed life into the game time and time again.
Stunt mode was a ton of fun, (WITH WINGS) If you do a roll in each direction and then land and tumble a bit(invincibility on), you can't beat the points...
Please don't forget the Obstacle mode either... An awesome treat for those that stick with the game...
Also, I loved the multiplayer battle mode, 4 player FFA, awesome.

@@ChrisBurnes I tried the MAT3 port a few years ago to try and avoid buying a Dreamcast. It is an insult to the game by comparison. Unfortunately a Dreamcast isn't $40 anymore...it's $110. Video games unfortunately aren't worth the money nowadays. It's up to you how bad you want to play the ultimate graphical version of RUSH 2049. I still say the N64 version is definitive with the superior soundtrack and color customization. All Barry Leitch beats man

    • @ChrisBurnes
      @ChrisBurnes 3 года назад

@@RedstonePyroMan There is a collection of the "remastered" N64 Rush soundtrack on RUclips. I took this and inserted it into the MAT3 GameCube version. It still doesn't have the better color customization like the N64, but it drives SO WELL. and being able to use the GameCube controller joysticks allows for such precise control that the Pro Slicks are a viable option.
Edit: You can play the GameCube version on the Dolphin emulator.

    • @RedstonePyroMan
      @RedstonePyroMan 3 года назад

@@ChrisBurnes my problem was with the controls. Both the N64 and DC versions allowed total freedom of mapping the controls. MAT3 locks you into a terrible configuration. I wish this game had more race tracks. Other than that, it's one of the best arcade racers of all time. I loved this, it improved on everything in the first two games. Made great use of the expansion pak too, with some beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay. The wings were a logical addition, but I felt they were a mixed blessing. They removed the frustration of not being able to control your landing, but it also lost some of the satisfaction of landing on your wheels without exploding. Using them almost felt like cheating.
"Objectively" speaking, it was the best in the series, but I still prefer the original. It's just more memorable to me, despite Rush 2049 being more refined in every aspect.

Isn't funny how each progressive game in the franchise had a lower and lower damage scale? SF Rush had multi-staged damage on five parts of the car, Rush 2 had only "damaged" or "not damaged" sections of the car, and SF Rush 2049 had no damage. >_>

As previously commented on your RUSH review, I love all of these games but, after careful consideration (years ago!) I finally decided that 2049 was the overall best of the 3.
I prefer the track designs here, overall. The last 2 tracks you unlock are just amazing. I did the coin collecting with a friend in 2P and we had great fun collecting them all. The Gauntlet is an amazing time trial game.
And, as mentioned by others, imo... the battle mode in this game is the best vehicular combat game in history! The weapons combined with those RUSH physics just makes for some amazing combat manoeuvre possibilities. Again, Stunt Mode makes for some highly entertaining multiplayer... even if it is random, like another viewer said.
RUSH 2049 really is one of the best racing games ever.

I never heard of this one, but seeing the gameplay here I'm sad I didn't have a chance to play it. My favourite was San Francisco Rush, Probably because out of the previous two, it was the one I spent the most time with, but the memories are there and that's what I look back on.

👍👍 rush 2049 is still my fave non-sim racer of all time. love it so much i've owned both the n64 and dreamcast versions and even contacted barry leitch, the guy who did the awesome OST to ask if he could send me the full n64 and dreamcast soundtracks - which he did! the game had such a unique blend of styles and still holds up extremely well today.

I put a ton of time into the first two Rush games but never had this version growing up. Of the first two games I thought Rush 2 was better but I loved collecting everything from both games like the Keys and Mt. Dew cans.
I'm going to pick this game up but I'm not sure which version I'll go with. I am a huge N64 fanboy and it is without a doubt my favorite console of all time but I may get the Dreamcast version simply because it is a superior version.

2049 by far is my fav. I played the arcade version first and those jumps made you feel like you are flying. So then got the N64 version when I could. And I have the remake on Xbox which is the Dreamcast version.

This was one of my favorite games as a kid.
I don't know if I have ever found another game quite like this one.
Some are similar, like REKT on the Nintendo Switch (and PC, perhaps others).
But I haven't found anything that I thought was close enough.
I wish that they would remake or re-release the original on modern devices.

@@n64glennplant That's more than fair :) Obviously the controls are nearly completely different, but the overall strats and timing is very close. Whoever made the new game must have grown up with this gem too! I love that we're old enough and skilled enough to bring back the best type of loops.

***** The small wing in racing mode always helps landings.
Plus you don't have a choice but to use the wings when collecting the coins, and when taking certain shortcuts.

i played the crap out of this game as a kid from 2001 to 2006 funny part was i didnt even know about the expansion pack till later which added even more to the fun. it took forever to get all the coins in the stunt stages. hated that part... i used to try and find way to get out of bounds or glitches. the game is over all pretty clean of those but all the secrets they hid were fun to find. the best one being the hidden stunt/test course in track 2. also i like to time myself with the jets that would fly by on track 3 to see how far they throw me lol. good times!

Great series, Glenn. This was definitely one of my favorite racers for the time. I know you're an N64 guy, but if you're interested, the Rush series (specifically 2049) has a spiritual successor called Nitronic Rush (nitronic-rush.com/). It's completely free and will really satisfy any craving for Rush 2049 action you still may have lingering.

Seeing this on arcade first, i was like, this is not going to be easy to port for N64. But they did it. Incredible drawing distance, full of stuff on screen. 2049 makes most N64 racers look pathetic. Really pleasure game to play.

In my Opinion Rush 2 was the best in the Series, however I never played 2049 very much since I never owned it myself.
I guess the awful L.A. Rush killed the Franchise off for good.
Just wondering: Why did you mention the wings feature but never showed it in the video?

Since the Bush era games went away from their successors. Bush seemed to killed off gaming and morphed them into FPS crap.
