Just got this game today bc of ur review reminding me of the stunt tracks and just pure awesomeness of this game from when I first played it back in the late 90's. I am a N64 fan to the death and it will always be my favorite console as I just got another one weeks ago now collecting all my fav games. Ur reviews are great and spot on, not too long either. It all feels right and cool again now in my 30's, Thanks for the support of this one of a kind console and it games

Couldnt agree with you more, I absolutely appreciate the n64 not just for the memories as a child, as in high shool.....college dorm days.... but also now that Im setting up a collection for the kids....when they earn good grades, etc. we go online do the research and add a new game to their collection...truth they love it more than the new consoles....64 had a good mix of everything.

I love these games. I spent countless hours exploring in the first game, and then countless hours on the stunt track in this game. It's interesting knowing that the reviews were highly demanded on this channel, it sounds like a good niche market. I wish they would make an updated version, keeping that same spirit intact. I haven't seen anything like these games since.

going to be completely honest I use to play this game at least 4 to 5 hours a day, I ended up getting all keys and mountain dew can, got the rocket car, pipe track and midway track. I played this game so much, then one day my memory card got everything erased off (not sure how) I lost everything on that memory card my rush save, Rampage 2 Universal tour save and I don't remember what else by that was one of the saddest days ever all that time I put into this game was for nothing I still play this game at least once or twice a month just have a feeling I will never get everything unlocked again unless I cheat which I do not plan on doing

Jeremy Christiansen i feel you only i had a day of glory because my n64 couldnt save any of my games i played so i had to really stick to the game with my brother at my side we got the mountain dew racing track and the keys in one day and had almost all the vehicles i can think of... then once the day was over we had to turn it off after collecting all that it was sad but a very enjoyable moment

Eightbog - this comment is old as hell but the same thing happened to me. Me and one of my high school buddies clocked in so much time to this game. We had every car unlocked for every map (main maps because we only really played circuits) one day my memory card got corrupted and we lost all of it.

I spent Hours playing the stunt mode with my older brother back in the day. I wish more car games would add this feature. I spent more time on it trying to see how many flips I could do then I did actually racing. A game like this with achievements would be great. For me Rush 2 is the superior game.

There was an official Tag mode if you played in 2 player on the Stunt track. You'd chase each other and become it by getting your car tapped.

  • @Larry
    @Larry 9 лет назад +10

I can't prove it, but I believe a lot of the tracks were dumbed down in the sequel as Rush 2 in arcades was one of the first ever (well only) arcade machines that would let you play online against other arcades, so wanted to keep the latency down by making the tracks more simple.
    I could be wrong.

      Marco Wolken
No worries, it was pretty simple, Rush was created around the time all arcade machines started to use PC parts, so making it an online game would be pretty simple.
It's more of a case of an arcade willing to pay for a broadband line in the late '90s. pretty pricey for just one game.

    • @superatzenl7616
      @superatzenl7616 9 лет назад

***** Rush 2 was exclusively released for the N64. Because of this, all of the tracks (except Alcatraz, which is indeed a graphically inferior version to its 'kind of' arcade counterpart - SF Rush The Rock Alcatraz Edition) are uniquely designed for the console and cannot be found on any other version of the Rush series. I think that a specific arcade version of Rush 2049 was the first one to feature an online game mode.

I finally found this gem that I've been trying to explain to friends! As soon as I seen the track selection screen and the stunt track I knew! I don't know how many hours I killed on that damn stunt track. Graphics, gameplay, and vehicle selection really set this apart from other races in my opinion. I've never been much a of a racer fan but this game holds a dear spot in my heart.

Watching your review, I realized I don't know if I ever played SFR on the console, only in the arcade. I was surprised to hear that there were so many secret routes and such in the original. I had always just assumed that SFR had one or two jumps and secret shortcuts--which people loved--and R2 specifically focused *more* on that aspect than SFR did. Since I only played SFR in the arcade, I never actually got to spend much time exploring it and I didn't realize how backwards I had things this whole time!
Also, my best friend and I loved to play 2-player death mode, get in a couple of jet black mobsters, and tear around the Las Vegas track smashing into the other cars and making them explode permanently until we were the only two left of the track--and then, of course...final elimination. I always imagined that somehow our hobby is what inspired Burnout 3: Takedown.

The improvements and additions of Rush 2 easily overshadow the lessened emphasis on exploration (even though this aspect was still strong). What truly sets it apart, though, is the stunt mode. Literal hours were spent during my youth playing this mode. Easily one of favorite (and most played) games for the system.

I think the thing I like most about the game is the actual racing and while it is an arcade racer it does take a good amount of skill to finish 1st and even then, you can be first, take a jump the wrong angle and finish last. I love that aspect, it's slightly unpredictable but not enough that it gets annoying. Despite it being almost twenty years old now, I still love the game and frequently play it when im bored

N64 racers all have similar features that set them so very much apart from racing games on the other consoles. I think it's you either love them or hate them and there's hardly anything in between. For a lot of folks these games have nostalgia attached to them. For others it may be more difficult to get into.
Personally I think these games are fun and well executed on the system.

I feel like Rush 2 had more to hold my attention personally. I liked Seattle, both New York tracks, Pipe, Crash & Alcatraz in this one a lot, where as I think Track 6 in SF Rush takes the entire cake for best level in the series. I also liked track 4 (I think it was 4) in SF rush for the rolling hills at the end that caused chaos. I honestly found more secrets and shortcuts dealing with Rush 2, but that may just be me.

  • @The52car

In the late 90s I owned very few N64 games, and SF Rush was a frequent rental. But RUSH 2 was one I just had to own.
I think the original went just a bit too overboard on the color of the cars so Rush 2 was more my taste. Even the environments seemed to have a better pallet.
I loved the exploratory nature of the series, but I never noticed a lack of secret routes in the sequel.
And although the soundtrack was very different between the two games, I enjoyed them both.
Rush 2 was my personal favorite of the arcade racers.

Choosing between Rush 1 and Rush 2 is difficult, but I think I'd give the edge to Rush 2 just because I spent hours upon hours in that stunt course. I could never really successfully make it over that spike pit.

I think this one was waaay more REplayable than the first. Will you do the 2049rush next? Or maybe SOUTHPARK RALLY? I know its a hard game but ya can't put it off forever.

I liked the 1st Rush the best but the stunt track on 2 was very popular with friends. Rush 2 is a great extension through and through. 2049 is also excellent. Its the last true Rush game imo since LA Rush changed the engine and turned it into a NFS clone.

Thinking back, I never played that many Midway arcade games when compared with the number they developed and/or published. Midway really was an excellent developer and even Atari, for all their mismanagement as a console developer, had some good talent in the software department. It's a real shame both these companies aren't around anymore, but I guess arcade games and their developers were just doomed to die slowly but surely here in the West.

egm! 00:39 and about your question, i didn´t play either, but i know the emulation in midway treasures en ps2 on the rush games is horrendous!

I liked the idea of tracks around the USA in rush 2 but I think I liked the idea of a more open races in rush1 so for me I think rush 1 was better

You should do a review over extreme g 2. Like how rush 2 improved and fixed the flaws of San Francisco rush, I feel that extreme g 2 does the same for extreme g.

Rush 2 Extreme racing was the best of the three.

I honestly thought the soundtrack in the original was alright.
Hard for me to compare the two, I was just too much of a fan of the game series to judge which was the better one.
