For a second there, I thought the Dept. of Defense was having too much fun with all those funds they get, but RC hexapods for practical effects in film are cool too.
Isn't it amazing that a stone axe was once the edge of human technology and now we have inteligent machines (we still have a long way to go until they are perfect); 100 years ago all of this would be considered impossible.
Looking at it, I'm guessing a price point of around 14,000 USD put into the project? I feel like even then I may be a little low but that somewhat depends on how much of the stuff on the turret is decorative for prop purposes and how much is functional. Very cool build, I'd like 5 and I will now add it to the roster of hobby stuff to build (except I can't afford 14k so, you know... smaller and cheaper lol)
That's about right for the retail servo cost. The rest of the robot's frame was all custom machining/printing, so costs add up quick. Built 3 fully functional robots for the movie.
Mx106 dynamixels - 24 total in the legs and then 2 mx64 in the head/turret. Motion is controlled via inverse kinematic model with bezier curve interpolation between frames.
hello congratulations for the video !!!! I bought a Mark 3 hexapod like yours but the seller doesn't remember anything about how to use it ... since you made a fantastic video could you help me? in the hexapod there is phoenix code and I control it with xbee Commander 2 could you tell me the names of the keys and what function they have? please help me wait for an answer thank you good day
I designed the mk1-3 but longer work for the company. You might check out the documentation at Trossen Robotics - they should still have the older versions archived.
Reminds me of Corruptors from that Horizon game… imagine how technology will be in 20 years; considering we now have ai EVERYWHERE in the world, knowing everything about us. but not only that, we also have hunter killer drones that use ai to kill people. we should get rid of ai before it brings about the end of humanity. sorry for this bizzare comment been watching a lot of conspiracy stuff lol pretty smooth movements on the robot 👍
There's another video on my channel with a vision tracking demo, walking shown halfway through - search "Orwell Hexapod" Or you can see it featured in 'Eye on Juliet' on Amazon Prime video. Trailers show it too. Cheers!
There's an entire movie where multiple of them do many things :) This videos description mentions the movie. You can also see it walk and object track using vision on other videos on my channel. This was just a quick sound sample/test we were doing for some sound effects.
@@DerelictRobot Interesting, I want to build a robot for combat robotics but use a leged robot. I was thinking of a scorpion-like robot and thought a hexapod robot would be a perfect starting point.
I want to say I was getting about 60-90 minutes of operating time on these. They were a little space limited in the battery compartment, but I had hot-swap batteries setup.
Which I also designed :) Most of my work is iterative, I don't like reinventing the wheel. This robot is roughly 4x larger than the PhantomX MK3 though. They weighed about 12kg each and about 1 meter in diameter.

As you can imagine, bringing 3 of these through Moroccan border control was no small feat. 😂
it literally looks like something the military would own
Looking good! Nice turret movements :-)
I love how it’s curiously looking around
DAMN! I really thought this was a prototype of combat robot! Amazing work, dude!
why is it so adorable
I love how you added easeing for servos to make smoother
Truly a weapon to surpass Metal gear
Ok, that servo sound makes this badass !
Now that’s adorable..

Great work, my friend. Could you show the complete project with all the electronic components, 3D parts, code, etc? Please. It's for a school job.
Hehehe. Final year project, I see?
This is so sick dude, I've been looking at smaller ones like the one Aecert robotics built and I wanna make one now lmao.
I- It's adorable.
Can it dance?
Bro held shift for those movements
You're not far off- I used a PS4 controller and had the triggers mapped to body rotation/shift translations!
this looks cool and i do need 1 one of these with a mounted bb gun right now

That name is brilliant. Hah I just love it.

I built these for the film production so I imagine they're sitting in a props warehouse somewhere. :)
