I was at this show. I remember me and my dad crying during this song. It means a lot to us and was an insane surprise to finally hear it. Best concert I’ve ever been to.
This is one of the most emotional songs for me...along with Mission, and of course, The Pass. Also...the HUMILITY! RIP Neil Thirty years ago, how the words would flow With passion and precision But now his mind is dark and dulled By sickness and indecision And he stares out the kitchen door Where the sun will rise no more...
I agree with this being one of their most emotional songs. I’d say Losing It, Mission, Time Stand Still, The Pass and The Garden make me tear up a bit when I hear them.
Wow! Rush was notorious for never performing “Losing It” Live. Thx to you and whomever captures this on their device. IMHO one of Neil’s most tender and heartfelt lyrics inspired primarily in tribute to Ernest Hemingway...
They played it on the Signals tour in Vancouver because Ben Mink (violin) was from or in Vancouver. I believe they never played it again until R40, and it seems that Ben stayed on the tour. I was in tears as soon as they started it on R40, couldn't believe that I saw it twice, one of my favorite songs ever, takes me to a special place
With each successive trip around the sun, I more closely identify with the lyrics to this song. There has never been a song written, before or after, that better captures the feeling of aging and not being able to do what we once could.
No doubt this song does that. I also really really nearly tear up every time I hear Like a Rock by Bob Seger. It really really hits home also. Night Moves a close 3rd.😉
My last Rush show. Great concert. Great band. End of an era. I feel blessed to have seen these guys many times thru the years. Even got to meet Geddy back in '96. God bless Rush and the best rock fans in the world ! Rush 4Ever !
In my mind, I see the members of Rush as being some of the most humble human beings walking the earth. In an interview with Dan Rather, Geddy Lee said that most of the time fans approach him and say that Rush's music has, "helped them through a difficult time in their lives." Imagine something intangible and yet touching so many souls. Who knows how many people were saved by these guys. Its been a blessing to be alive and well in the same time as them.
To think they played this on their last tour. Neil knew that this was it. He was in a lot pain from tendinitis and yet still went through with the tour. Such a warrior.
I will have to say them and Jethro Tull. Top 2 shows. This is probably one of my favorites by Rush. We all will eventually go through it and being able express how when we are young we do amazing things. The violin expresses that in the little runs throughout the song. The solo especially! Amazing work!!!
A class act indeed, I agree. By perhaps the best all around rock band in history. It was not a random or casual choice they made, this song. Thanks for posting.
😭 I have loved this song since day one. It only seems to serve now to bring tears to my eyes at the loss of such a marvelous man, and end of a greater band of rockin Canadians! Rush Forever!
I am just all about this band. They became something so special to me. When I look back to their first album, hearing Zeppelin influences, and then they move on from that and just become this band that has floored me. They are the greatest band ever.
I know that this will sound trivial but I got the Signals album as a Christmas gift in 1982. During spring practice of 1983, I was having difficulty maintaining my football position. I was faced with the possibility that I had experienced my best days in football and they had passed. I remember coming home and playing this song repeatedly, while I enveloped myself in pity!!! Fortunately, I got past that!
It just occurred to me how awesome it would be to be that violinist. For that song he is rush along with Alex Getty and Neil he's not a guest he's part of the band. They jammed together they rocked out together they look like they were having so much fun digging that amazing sound and adding that amazing violin screeching to the already amazing sound. Wow.
Yep, Jonathan Dinklage played the part beautifully, and they had Ben Mink play the violin for a couple shows, and he also played on the original song off the Signals album. ruclips.net/video/VNCEHEXXhPo/видео.html
I can’t help but thinking of Neil knowing his elbows were shot and it was his final tour… remaining the consummate professional trying his damndest for perfection yet one more time… not knowing that his time was a lot shorter than he ever could’ve imagined. I can’t even name the emotions I’m feeling. Farewell Professor, and thank you.
I'm from Mexico, and went to see Rush to Chicago back in 2015. First time I ever saw the band... I remember thinking all the time before the concert that maybe they could play this, as is one of my favorite songs, sadly they didn't play it, but was the best concert i will ever witness in my life.

Watch every Rush video and documentary for 7 days straight without sleep. Then you become human again. Tonight’s the night I get to sleep again. Thanks Rush and Neil. Rip.
39-Years after its release it's a great reflections to see the passion and energy Ben Minks contribution with the violin made to 'Losing It'. I miss the annual 'Rush' releases and R.I.P. Neil Peart. You gave us Portuguese kids growing up in the North End of Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada) hope that our jamming sessions were meaningful (as bad as our song writing) was.
some people HATE Tai Shan - I don't get it. I love Tai Shan and every other damn song these guys ever created. I think there is a psychological phenomena out there with people And and Annoying one too - the fodder of many a drunken debate amongst Rush friends. Van Halen has experienced the same phenomenon with old v. new. Make it stop! Crank up the Tai Shan - it's a beautiful song and Lex just nails the feeling (as ususal)
one more thing I find Losing It joyously melancholy and inspirational. Live now, use your God-given talents now - don't be Hemmingway -- I don't find it depressing, but rather uplifting. An amazing dichotomy between interpretations or reactions to the same magical sounds. Rush is what rap is not.
I'm a middle aged "pro" athlete. So Losing It speaks to me @@jackdonahue8773 As for the VH debate, I stay away from that. A close friend of mine grew up with the band. That has got to be the best song live with Rushs old friend rocking the violin. In ways it is creepy hearing this on the R40 tour...the lyrics fit so well to what is coming.

Yes probably the most powerful Rush song ever as it carried so much emotional and intellectual weight. And with all of the hits that they produced that is saying something.
Wow. This was nearly my exact vantage point at this show. So thankful for this footage!! My wife and I were so fortunate to see three shows on this tour, the last one being this epic performance in New York City. Was hoping for this song during the Clockwork Angels tour simply because they already had strings and I thought it may be a good time to do it. Seeing this song on this tour was one of the highlights (along with Jacobs Ladder, Xanadu, Camera Eye, Cygnus X 1...) Brings tears to my eyes.
Loved getting a shot to see these guys live in Vegas, my dad’s tortured me long enough to where I love em just as much. Such a great concert and great musicians. Wish I had another show with them 😢
We don't have too many songs that feature the violin, and I'd be doing myself a disservice and every member of this band if I didn't perform the hell out of this!!

Ben Mink's original violin solo on Signals is chilling and spine tingling, but damn, Dinklage absolutely slays it here in this performance.
I watched an interview with Jon and he said this was a song he learned long ago as he is a Rush fan!!!
