My favourite Rush song of all time.. it hits me hard and deep on so many levels.. I identify with it as if I’d written it myself… it brings the tears evertime 🙏❤️
RUclips threw this into my feed as I've just finished Geddy's memoir and am regretting missing their last few tours. So amazing that they took the opportunity to place this live.
I was there for this in Newark. I think we were all shocked, they played it. Never thought in a million years, they would play this incredible song live. A lot of us RUSH fans lost it, at the time, & I still do when i watch the video. Thanks for posting!!
@@blackadder19999 I think they played it maybe 3 times, in their last tour. Once in Toronto with the original Violinist, this one in Newark, and I think once in Madison square garden. This is the best one IMO and I feel blessed that I was able to see it live. It still brings more than a few tears to my eyes, between it being my favorite song, bringing me back to a great memory, when they played it & no one was expecting, to the poignancy of that moment in time, when Geddy Alex & Neil knew this was their last concert tour, and the song lyrics were heavy in their hearts, as well as the fans attending.
@@dannyc9784 That's so great to have been there for that. I saw Rush a handful of times over the years, but one of my biggest regrets is missing their 40th and last tour. I wasn't doing well financially so I skipped out figuring they'd come around again at some point in the future. Welp, that ain't happening ever again :( Rush is my favorite band by a long shot. Lesson learned, and easier said than done, but I try never to let finances take away from experiences. Money at least has a chance at being replaced.
This is such a Rush anthem song especially that chorus. So rare to see it live. Truly beautiful. So thought this would be on Clockwork Angels tour with the string ensemble. A rare gem of music history. Thanks for sharing this!!
I used the last part “Some are born…” as my quote in my senior yearbook. The depth of the words in this song are staggering! Between the subtle hat tips to Hemingway and the twist on “better to have loved and lost” is a prime example of why Neil is not to be challenged!
You can see and hear the audience response! Easy to see/hear that it was very much welcomed. When you can watch the people in the audience pumping their fists to the drums… I wish I was there!
Bought Hemmingway's "The bell tolls for thee". Also bought Ayn Rand's "Fountainehead" and "Atlas Shrugged". Thank-you professor for the book recommendations.
Oh yes. Silly me. Stands corrected. TY. Was thinking of a line From Rush song/Neil Peart's writing referencing Hemmingway. I must be "Losing It"?@@rhessex
One of the few songs I don't ever remember hearing live , was " no one at the bridge ". This was priceless. Saw them 3 times on this tour, they used different violinists " local" to each area. Sad, never to witness this magic again. Thanks for all the great memories. Mr. Peart & family.
They had 2 different violinists. Ben Mink in Canada, who played this on their Signals album, and Jonathan Dinkledge in the USA, seen in this video, a member of their Clockwork Angels String Ensemble from 2012-13.
Thank you for shooting GREAT footage and for this song. I was at the Tampa show and unfortunately, they did not play this song. AWESOME song! Thanks again.
Perfect Song for this time of their career (Lyrically) I thought they would play it on Clockwork Angels Tour, since they had the strings going on ,etc. Never would have wanted to see it live......UNTIL NOW !!!....UNTIL NOW ! Perfect Song for this point in their career ! BUT THEY DONT SOUND LIKE THEY ARE "LOSING IT" Icing on the Rush tour cake.:) Thanks for "Making Memories" in my life.
The first CD i ever bought was "Signals". It was even before i got a CD-player. I just wanted to buy that record. Some things in life is´t worth regret. And i don´t. A great album still today.
One of my all-time favorite songs by Rush, this is a lead that I did not know was played by a violin player until I saw live footage, but since it's a c transposable instrument, there is nothing this guy played that Alex couldn't play live I want to hear it besides myself messing with it I want to hear Rush do it with Alex playing it
And to think that just a year later Neil's cancer diagnosis would complete change the path of the band. They were all genius and seemed to really enjoy every minute they had on stage for 40 years. Amazing.
Such an excellent performance of this song! This violinist really, REALLY got it! performed it awesomely close to the album - sounded fantastic! Who was the violinist?
pouring rain for this show!!!! still met up my buddy and his brother and. as the night progressed we all lost each other...until a few days later #LMFAO waaay too many stories

This is from one of my favorite Rush albums of all time. Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it...
One of the many underplayed RUSH tunes and a personal favorite. My love of RUSH can not be overstated.

I’m amazed. I’ve seen rush about seven times and NEVER heard this live. Fantastic violin

I love this song. I think it’s one of their best.
This guy can say he played with 3 of the best musicians in the world. Alex, Geddy and Neil

Alex's guitar tone is just so huge. Wow.

Absolutely beautiful song. The lyrics occassionally bring me to tears. And as tragic fate would have it, for Neil Peart they became autobiographical.
I have a total smile on my face as I listen to this........ this is EXCELLENT
I wish they had played this song on every tour. It's one of my favorite songs from them.
This is OUTSTANDING! THANK YOU!
Great tune one of my favorite RUSH tunes well done
I was at this show! They blew the roof off. Excellent.

The title of Hemmingway's book is "For Whom the Bell Tolls".

Such an excellent performance of this song! This violinist really, REALLY got it! performed it awesomely close to the album - sounded fantastic! Who was the violinist?
Ben Mink, he's most famous for collaborating with KD Lang at the height of her popularity.
BELLEZA💜
RIP Neil

Jeez.amazing.
I love this song- And Yes He is the brother of Peter.
pouring rain for this show!!!! still met up my buddy and his brother and. as the night progressed we all lost each other...until a few days later #LMFAO waaay too many stories
I was there. The opening band blew them off the stage. Jk. I don’t think there was an opening band. Loved these guys my entire 50+ years.
Me too😊
E P I C !
When the song was written it was about other people. Now, Geddy sings it about himself.
Sounds just like the album!
2:17 nice moment between DINKLEDGE and PRATT!
I tip my hat to your hat, sir!
Ah yes, a tip of the magical hat, and a wave of the magical wand.
A little slow on the supertrooper at the end there, tech. You’re fired.

Natural science
Glad no one had to run out and put more coins in the driers.
Jacob's ladder natural science different strings
Washing Machines?! Bizarre…
One of the saddest tunes I've ever heard.
Why the stupid dryers on stage ? Gibson basses suck !
