The best vide on this procedure I've seen, and Ive seen more than I ever wanted to see, lol. Thank you. For some Jettas, there are an additional two bolts you need to access from the bottom of the car. They are next to the oil fill tube. Once again, best video on this topic!
My friend, thanks for the video… question, is difficult replace the lower housing, the one that goes where the thermostat is placed… thanks in advance!
At 29:50 the old thermostat air bleed valve was facing diagonal left down. Eric the car guy video said that valve should be facing on top so air can go thru. Maybe Volkswagon made a mistake on install?
Thanks for your video. My question is can I remove those two bolts from engine motor mount on car ramps instead of using jack stands? Thx again your a life saver. God bless you
My 06 beetle doesn't have the check engine light on, but the red temperature light comes in intermittently. What do you think it could be? Thanks for your great video.
thanks, saldosm from mexico, I have a 2008 it have only one fan and the switch ternhal fro radiator don have on it, pleace helpme to show where I found it switch thermal
You installed the thermostat upside down, the jiggle valve always goes up at the 12 o'clock position. If the thermostat is not clocked correctly you will never get all the air out of the cooling system
This is a great video but this job is not as easy as it sounds. The intake manifold needs a special tool (CTA 8541 14" x 6mm Hex Bit Socket) to remove one of the bolts. I bought one for my mechanic to do this job and he said he doesn't think he could have done the job without it. It's less than $20 and is worth it, even if you only have to use it once because of the time and tears it saves.
I found one that works, Home Depot, it is a Milwaukee extension, with one of my 6mm bits. Thanks again for this video, I'm better working on the MKIV 1.8T and R32
Peace of cake I saw another video where the guy removed the motor mount and lower the engine down end got it out under the car. Just saying you don't have to take the whole car apart.

Thank you so much, this beats having to take the front and side bumpers off. Great Explanation of mostly step by step. i appreciate it.
Thankyou for taking the time and effort to get the thermostat done.. definitely much appreciated
Oh wow! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. This was so helpful.
Thank you for this video. It was still a pain, but saved me the $700 I was quoted to replace the thermostat on an 09 Beetle

Nice job making the video. Will be doing this job tonight. Thanks again!
so it takes 10 mm for the rail but it looks like 8 mm for the intake can you confirm that size? i'm having a time locating 12 point torx wrenches.
thanks a ton for the video!! well done and great explanations, you made my job so much easier!!!
What are all the bolt/Allen bolts sizes on the intake manifold
Can this also be done on a 2006 VW Beetle?
By chance what are the torque specs on the Thermo and Intake bolts?
Thanks for your video. My question is can I remove those two bolts from engine motor mount on car ramps instead of using jack stands? Thx again your a life saver. God bless you
I have a 2007 Volkswagon Beetle 2.5
My 06 beetle doesn't have the check engine light on, but the red temperature light comes in intermittently.
What do you think it could be?

Excellent video and information.... Thank you.
My 2.5 beetle is reaching 90k miles. Should I change it as a preventative?
Same process for a 2006 Jetta 2.5?

it only goes in one way

Great video. Did you replace the headlight bulb while you were there?
Where Could I find the mechanic manual, that you show on 3'45"?
So if you coolant temp does go up, but CEL is on and temp sensor flashes, what would that issue be? Same error code btw. Thanks for the video!
check coolant level first
Would this be the same method for a 2006 new beetle 2.5 ? Convertible top, not that that matters.
if its the same engine
