Having a solid understanding of snowboard types will be a big help as you're choosing a new snowboard, and this video gives an introduction to the general purpose behind the design for each type of snowboard. While there are a huge number of snowboards to choose from, and many boards could arguably fit into multiple categories, these are the 5 main design styles to help you think about what is best for you and narrow down your search. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, thanks for watching.

For the ones that are going to start snowboarding:
    1. Take all the tips from this vid.
    2. Buy used board, used for 1 or 2 seasons - damaging new board is more painfull and spending more will not give you skills - that will only come with a time :)
    3. For the money you saved buy good gloves.
    4. If you still have money for other purchases buy better clothes that you think will be enough :)
    5. Watch guides about good posture on the board - if you want to skip that... Oh God, you will look like you are brain damaged. Keep your board in line with your body, do not counterrotate :)
    6. After two seasons buy your brand new, beautifull board that you dreamed off. You should already know what you want to do :)

As an additional, budget for lessons! You'll end up enjoying your time far more if you have someone motivated to teach you. Don't be that guy who slows all your buddies down because you're too cheap (they'll probably ditch you anyway).

But what season is? Two weeks in a year of boarding? Three winter months daily boarding? Half year weekend boarding? All of these damage board and others with different intensity.

This snow blower is great for the cost! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN I powered through a foot of blizzard snow yesterday. I had to turn off the machine to clear out the snow several times but it was no big deal. Overall it didn’t save me much time vs. shoveling but it definitely saved my back! The cord didn’t get in the way too often once I figured out a pattern and I was glad to only have to deal with a cord vs. gas and oil in the freezing temperatures. When we used the snow blower on about 4 inches, it was so quick and easy! I definitely recommend this blower if you’re like us and only get a handful of really big storms every year. Also, some of the reviews mentioned that this blower isn’t great on uneven surfaces. Our driveway is definitely pretty uneven in spots and I really didn’t have much trouble. I had to lift the front over a couple miniature steps where there were height changes just like I would have had to do with a shovel. I can’t imagine any snow blower would handle the change in driveway height any better because they all should be scraping right on the ground in order to clear the snow.Sure, if I was willing to spend a couple hundred dollars more, I’d get a more powerful machine that would go faster and could handle deeper snow without me having to clear it out occasionally but I’m not.

Great content,TJ. I feel like each brand board has there own character/feeling, would love to see u talk abit more for that since u tried so many brands. I find that words like 'stiffer harder' really hard to let the viewer get the feel of the boards. And we arent able to get many demo days. So the way to let audience know each brand difference is really would help a lot when we choose boards. Like im not really a big fan of burton cuz their boards are like thick stiff feel.

Got the Burton Custom as my first board. With no prior experience on any board - skate/longboard. Was a bit rough the first few times till i picked it up, and I really needed a good beginner slope, cause in higher speeds the edges were a pain. It's more of a challenge but i love it.
To anyone else who thinks of getting it as your first board, honestly if you can, try the rental ones for the first day or two. If you want to save yourself a bruised ass:D

I used to ride a Gnu Carbon Credit which is an all mountian freestyle board. I absolutely loved that board cause it could do litterally whatever I wanted it to do.
it was a symmetraical twin with fairly soft flex but not super flexy. pretty much in between a medium flex and a soft flex board and it was insanely good to learn on. that board took me from complete beginner to the black diamon jump line doing spins. and it took it no questions asked.
and the best part is that all Gnu boards are signed so you kinda know who built the board, it just so happened that I managed to run into the actual guy that made my snowboard when I traveled to Japan to snowboard. it is interesting how small the world actually is

The problem I now have is I've lost 70lbs since I bought the board and now it's just too stiff for my liking. Still a good mountain board nonetheless.

Awesome vid, thanks TJ! Westmark Camber is an awesome board, rode 2 season on it. Switched to the Capita DOA 2021 and just finished up the Aussie season with it. No comparison. The DOA is so much better on edge, able to hold carves with ease whereas the Arbor Westmark Camber would wash out on all but the best of conditions. Apart from the edge hold both boards are otherwise similar. Just my 2c.

    • @BoardArchive
      @BoardArchive  3 года назад

interesting! Were you keeping your edges tuned up on the Westmark?

    • @Fuz1
      @Fuz1 3 года назад

@@BoardArchive No, tbh, I wasn't keeping the edges tuned as much as I should have. Still, even when the Westmark was new it still washed out trying to hold an edge. Might be the Grip Tech causing the issues, not sure. The DOA felt so much better on edge from the very first run of the season. First few turns felt so different to the Arbor, almost as if someone had changed my binding angles... just so different... Will be sticking with the DOA for a while, can't fault it.

Snowboarding is still relatively new brotha. It’s growing and as the sport gets more exposure the channel will grow . Ya gotta understand snowboarding isn’t something a lot of people can afford to do growing up. Life is hard and a lot of parents just can’t afford to put their kids into a sport like this. Not everyone can have access to the slopes cuz of the region they live in. It’s hard to justify the cost for many parents. It’s growing and it will continue to grow and they will definitely get there one day ! Most people are one medical emergency away from being dead broke. Also the cost of lift tickets just keeps going up too. Unless you can get a season pass and make multiple trips up to ride it flat out costs too much.

I just got the 2016 solman villian snowboard. Best butter board ever and is extremely good at rails and jumps would not recommend for powder tho

Kinda related to board types would be interesting to hear your thoughts on stances. Lots of people talk about different types of boards but rarely specific stance set up for them. Do you run same stance on all types or flatten your rear foot on directional boards?
I run a wide +15 -15 on all my boards atm but thinking about playing around with a positive rear foot for carving - purely out of curiosity.

I usually ride 15,-15 on everything but if I'm on a directional board sometimes I will push the back foot to -12 to open my hips up a little more for carving. I don't get too crazy with stance

Points at T. Rice Pro HP, says Orca 😝
Love the video anyway! Great breakdown!
Would be great to see a conceptually similar video with bindings!

Thank you! I may have to make that video happen.
That is actually a limited edition Orca with a collaboration graphic with Evil bicycles that was a late release last season 😉

Hey TJ, any thoughts on getting a volume-shifted board as a beginner/intermediate (riding Austrian reds without too much trouble).
I'm thinking about getting a PartyWave+ because 1) it looks fun 2) It's way stiffer then rental boards, I'm really starting to dislike those floppy rentals. 3) I skate a really wide board too(9.1) and love the extra stability.

Love the video, found you from David's vlogs and thought you were a chill guy. I am really excited for the upcoming season cause I just got my first snowboard used off of ebay, it is a Burton Operator. Which category would you say that this falls into? I am a sucker for graphics, and absolutely love the graphic on it, and I am honestly just excited to not be riding a rental anymore.

haha I love David! Thanks for joining me over on this channel. I'm not very familiar with that board, but I did a little digging and I'd say that would fall into the all-mtn/freestyle category. I'm seeing it's a true twin with directional flex which is interesting. Should be a fun versatile board for you.

I have about 12 years of skateboarding experience over a decade ago and two days on the slopes with a snowboard. Did really well in those two days -- progressed faster than other people that my teacher had taught. I bought a DC The 156 and I'm concerned it's going to be too stiff. Am I going to hate it as a "beginner" that only boarded on a beginner super-flexy board?

Can we set back stance on a true twin to feel like directional board ?
