Whats the best Men of War?
Something that I really love at Men of War series is the GEM Editor. If yoy have a bit of talent and imagination, you can create anything you can imagine. I like to use that function very often and create my own battles. This is I think what a "custom battle" should be.

I can't blame you at all but you actually missed an ultra rare game in the series called "Silent Heroes: Elite Troops of WWII". Sort of a Soldiers 2.5 or Faces 0.5
My favorite ww2 strategy game and still worth to play. And it's more realistic than other games of the same genre.
Mowas 2 is brilliant, you can play an extremely realistic WW2 or Cold War or Warhammer 40k and so on...

Nothing ever gets old in this game, a true classic. Kinda hoping for some kind of remastered though.
It's been remastered over and over:
Men of War campaign is oficially remastered in AS2.
Faces of War and Red Tide have been ported to AS2 through mods.
And most of AS1 missions have been reused in AS2.
The game would need a brand new engine but that would certainly break compatibility between mods and piss off a part of the community. They should have introduced it much sooner with Assault Squad in 2011 just so it could actually use your inactive CPU cores or something (like in Ashes of the Singularity).
The attention to detail is what I adore about this series.

I still have Soldiers Heroes of WWII to this day on my shelf, along with Faces of War, and Men of War. The Assault Squad 2 is on steam though ;)
You mentioned a few things that I do not fully agree with. It's not criticism, just adding my personal opinion and knowledge to the mix.
Men of War was NOT a step back in terms of scale. In fact, the name suggests that it's a step towards larger scale combat. Men, not Faces of War. You also forgot to mention that Men of War: Assault Squad along with Assault Squad 2 and Call to Arms were developed by Digitalmindsoft, not Best Way (the original developer). Assault Squad was a step towards macro, not micro. More tanks, bigger squads. They introduced automatic resupply which allowed for less micromanagement of infantry. Once again, It's not the "Men of War team". Two seperate developers who began working together on Men of War but split thereafter. Digitalmindsoft received a license to the GEM engine after developing the standalone game Red Tide for Best Way and 1C and could since continue their own path, having rights to the Men of War name. Men of War: Vietnam was simply the step Best Way decided to take after Men of War.

Most inf is 1 shot to die + even more detailed vechile armor model + different ammo (Like APCR and APHE and HEAT) and other weaponry than vanilia (Like MG-34 and MP-41 etc.:)
Vince Rutherford, Lol. Maybe you installed it wrong, or something doesnt work in your mod. RobZ Realism Mod changes literally whole game. How can you not notice any difference? This mod is 3 or 4 times like whole game content. Plenty of various vehicles in many produced versions, maybe 50 new multiplayer maps, tens or hundreds of new infantry units in every game-in country. Completely new sound effect packs, FX or visual effects. Very exact system of tank combat, and details like even turning engine in every vehicle. It is impossible not to see that, if everything works fine.

This is really helpful. With so many games and drastically different focus between them, one is bound to make the wrong choice. As someone who gravitates towards SP, I will avoid assault squad.
My only beef with the excellent MoW series is the lack of fire suppression and no moral system.
You cannot keep the enemies head down and you can order your troops straight into MG fire , artillery or whatever.
Kind of dumb that way.
Yeah the only thing i dont like is the same, it`s like the soldiers are robots. They will gladly stand in a middle of an artillery strike and not take any cover if you dont force them.
They do get down when there's heavy fire power. It depends on whether you set their moral option to free, hold or zone based on the situations and they'll start withdrawing( in free mode ) if they're clearly outnumbered. Obviously you'll see such actions in GEM editor where you can create your own epic custom battles.
If anyone decides to re-create the first Sudden Strike with the MoW Assault Squad 2 engine I'd be glad to sell my soul for this game! Unfortunately I prefere singleplayer campaigns over mutiplayer so I don't play Assault Squad 2 very often.

I like the feeling and handling of Men of War, love the graphics of MoW AS. I cant stand what its become in Call to Arms. If they kept the handling and direct control of Men of War, but improved the graphics and didnt change the handling in the other games, id play the hell out of the others.

Why you did not mentioned in the begining that developer of MoW series and GEM engine was company BestWay and only since "Assault Squad" this series now being milked by DMS and 1C companies (this also explains why quality of singleplayer and multiplayer dropped so badly)... And btw due to being originally ukrainian/russian - title of the game was always same: "В тылу врага" (for "Soldiers HoWW2") and "В тылу врага 2" (for "Faces of war" and "Men of war")...

I am actually curious about why Call to Arms wasn't mentioned here. It's basically the same as Assault Squad 2 but with quite a bit of upgrades and in a modernized setting. Hell, back in the early days of the game the UI was basically ripped directly from Assault Squad 2.
The problem with men of war series is that the developers never worked on newer animations. Its the same animation from 2004 that is used till now especially the troop movement. A better animation of troop movement should have been developed!
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is on sale right now on Steam. You can get it for 5 euros/USD/GBP or whatever i dno.
what about Gates of Hell game? should be released during 2019 . does it have a different developer ?

It's barely changed since the original MOW. I feel like it's a con realising the same game again and again. The "upgrades" are often relatively negligible and often it feels like they're not concentrating on adding the right things or fixing long identified problems.
I liked the original Men of War better than Assault Squad. Assault Squad seemed like it was trying to be more like Company of Heroes with the capture points. So I didn't bother getting Assault Squad 2 because I thought it was just a remaster of Assault Squad. Then they had Assault Squad 2 Origins and when I was finally going to buy a newer one it got really confusing. Even when you explain it here in the video it's confusing. I have Assault Squad 2 with the Deluxe Edition Upgrade and Origins but I can't remember if they came together.
Same thing here. I detested AS1, it was just a skirmish multiplayer game, it really crushed my heart, especially since I loved Men of War so much, and spent hundreds of hours with the dynamic campaign generator. I eventually bought the AS2 because it was a good promo but never even started the game. When I built my new pc, I installed both AS1 and 2, but didn't even remember I did. Because resonant said the engine is better and graphics as well, I am giving it a shot soon, I already uninstalled AS1 and left 2 deluxe with origins, maybe it has some of the feeling of MoW. Resonant made me unregret a steam impulse buy.
Whats the best Men of War?
I like this franchise but i wish they updated the graphics and the AI and unit detection is pretty cruddy. I wish there was a game like this but with CoH2 animations and graphics and better more intelligent AI

Different Men of War games were created by different developers: "Soldiers-Heroes of WW", "Faces of War" and "Men of War" were created by ukrainian "Best Way", "Red Tide", "Vietnam" and "Condemned Heroes"-by russian "1C", and "MOWAS1-2"-by german "Digitalmindsoft".
@Aleksa Petrovic they bought an GEM engine and made their own "man of war" game. Best way sold that engine couse they could become bankrupted in that moment.
