    I watched a few of the videos showing off the combat animations that went into this game, a number of weeks ago - shockingly, they're actually incredibly sophisticated and impressive for today, let alone 2009.
    It really rams home how much of a shell of its former self Ubisoft has become over the last 15 years.
    Do you remember games like the original Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy's Advanced Warfighter, Far Cry 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, EndWar, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory/Conviction - these games were so exciting and fresh at the time, because literally nobody had done anything like them in the past.
    And what do we have today? The same rinse and repeat copy of a copy of a copy: Ghost Recon Battle Royale. Another season pass of Rainbow Six Seige. Some new Assassin's Creed and Far Cry games that do exactly the same game and story, just in a ( typically skin-deep) new "setting".
    The last Ubisoft game I played was Far Cry 5 and I stopped after about 7-8 hours, I just couldn't stand how mediocre it was. It's sad to think what these younger generations missed out on...

    • @Angelic_Hero
      @Angelic_Hero 2 года назад +3

      ill agree that far cry is the same story but assassins creed its not while being a lot deeper then you would realize if you don't follow the story's of the games closely mechanics added to the assassins creed games have defiantly brought the quality down especially in odyssey and origin IMO

    • @mtnd02.06
      @mtnd02.06 2 года назад

      Idk man, Farcry 5 is reaaaally fun.
      I understand it's nowhere near the intense gruesome story line or as captivating as 1 and 2 but holy shit is it fun and beautiful, even without co-op.
      The villain isnt anything special but I still think he's unique in his own way.
      People say he's non threatening because he's just a religious nut but I love the way he's portrayed because there have been people like him in recent history who actually are scary for how they manipulate weakminded people into doing some really fucked up shit.
      Like the irl cults who willingly drank the suicidal coolaid for wacky religious reasons, Charles Manson, and the Waco Stuff.
      I honestly can't get enough of the game, a shame the New Dawn DLC is canon and not just a spinoff because it makes the story itself non Canon in a way.
      Now 6...
      6 is fun in co-op but holy shit is it dumbed down to the point of boring mediocrity.
      No perks, No animations for alot of actions like searching or skinning, AI that is literally and unironically braindead, (unironic because most people say that as an exaggeration but the AI in 6 is really fucked) and a clothing system that was changed into an RPG style of pro and con but just doesn't work for the game at all.
      I do like the characters tho, and who doesn't love Chorizo.
      *(I miss Rainbow Six Vegas, you got me wanting to play it now, the couch co-op had me and my brother playing it for hours, It was such a good game too, I agree with everything else you said tho.
      Ubisoft just isn't hitting those highnotes anymore)*

      Not just Ubisoft but even the people who make Tom Clancy Games. If Tom Clancy could he'd be rolling around in his casket with what they have done to his brand. Even their Ace Combat spin off (H.A.W.K.X) comes off as far more realistic than what they are releasing as Tom Clancy.

    Endwar was an awesome game in its day. Here's a few things I remember from playing tons of MP, specifically as EU:
    *The flashbang grenades ability could one shot enemy garrisoned infantry in buildings. It was absurdly powerful.
    * Combining an electronic warfare strike with a superweapon or a tier 3 airstrike would stun and completely instakill an enemy unit. This really hurt when it happened to your higher veterancy troops.
    * The command vehicle unit was very underrated. The drones it came with were fairly weak, but free to replace. On some maps you could cheese objectives with it. As a side note, for EU specifically the drone laser upgrade was either broken or intentionally useless. The laser weapon had effectively no range, so it was much better to just not upgrade them. The vehicle itself was short ranged, but surprisingly effective as a brawler near an objective.
    * Tier 2 Force Recon was extremely strong for its cost since it came with tanks. If you didn't have artillery, your own upgraded tanks, or points to drop an airstrike on it, those conventional troops were a pretty robust way to hold an objective or choke point.
    * The voice commands feature worked surprisingly well, and was very useful given the limitations of a controller (xbox 360).
    * If you felt like griefing, you could execute defeated enemy units before they could evac.
    I'll never forget Rapier and Broadsword, my two squads of legendary riflemen that made it from launch day to the first conquest reset alive.

    • @NYG5
      @NYG5 Год назад +1

      It was always awesome to spam force recon on an objective. You could time your attacks where your own troops could harrass and withdraw to bring down shields right before your regular troops showed up. Plus tier 2 was more cost effective, tier 3 had an extra 1 or 2 tanks but fewer escorts so enemy gunships could easily pick them off. Tier 2 only had 1 or 2 tanks but had a full escort of about 4 or 8 APCs loaded with infantry, and was cheaper

    • @HalTheBot
      @HalTheBot Год назад

      @@NYG5 iirc Tier 3 force recon has 8 tanks, and 2 infantry platoons being transported by 8 IFVs, whereas Tier 2 only has 4 tanks, 1 infantry platoon, and 4 IFVs; and it only costs an extra command point.

      One of the cheesier strats was to put a rally point in the enemy spawn then drop 2 force 2s on it. It would cause massive problems to the enemy if they didn't spot it in time.

    I loved this game! Such simplistic gameplay, but so much variety. I love that each faction had their own quirks. Russia used thermobaric weapons, Europe had this focus on laser weaponry, and US was all heavy ballistics. My favorite was using infantry and upgrading them to the top levels and upgrading all points with air strikes so they would be top level. Second favorite was doing the capital defense levels and waiting for the reinforcement timer run out and seeing this HUGE wave of allief NPC's swarm in. I also loved being able to call in QRF's (Force Recon) and seeing the different levels

    This game was genre breaking. I remember playing this along with command and conquer tiberium wars (which franchise has also got cancelled). My favorite part of EW was the fact you could put your mic in and command your troops 99% through voice lines. (i.e. "Unit 4, move to alpha" or "unit 4, attack enemy 3" or something along those lines). Definitely ahead of its time on that one. Both this game and the command and conquer game i said also looked BEAUTIFUL for their time as well, although probably had better graphic allocation being it was an RTS game with limited commands/controls rather than an open world FPS of that time.
    Edit: If you love RTS, I highly suggest you checking out Cepheus Protocol. It's in beta right now but there is a randomized infected starting point scenario thing. It is pretty bare minimum with units but does show a lot of early game detail that could make room for amazing future content (like equipping soldiers with different weapons, training/experience, vehicles, fortification and defense tactics with power). There is this amazing part though... You can control the 'operator' and be a FPS soldier inside this RTS game.

      I always play as an Assault battalion and try to aim for hostile annihilation even in conquest. If you evacuate your units once they end up at 50% health instead of waiting for them to be defeated you deprive the enemy of Command Points so they can't call in more units fast enough before you reach their deployment zone.

    This and Stormrise, were really fun, but I do think the camera perspectives hurt both, and for Stormrise Whip Select as well, as it is the only method of selection in Stormrise and on its own it is... not enough like you can play End War more traditionally if you have a Command Vehicle deployed, but Stormrise you had to take into consideration a lore more,
    like say every level of a parking garage could house a sniper team, every street corner and alleyway a Rage, a Matriarch or a Stalker waiting in ambush, every skyscraper could be concealing air units (or even the Eclipse on some maps where it is usable by Echelon players), and whip select on its own just cannot keep up to how RTS games are played normally I found, like Endwar you can give orders as fast as you can speak while also ordering units the old fashioned way,
    Stormrise is at its best when it is static, with clearly defined front lines, while most others including End War allow for more fluid situations where you do not need most of your army in one place to make commanding them easier to do, because the selection method is flawed on it’s own.

    With this game I would say it was a brilliant proof of concept for a voice controlled strategy game, a bit of time on making friendly/enemy AI more intelligent (example you order your units to defend a point they spread out and take cover - infantry hide in buildings automatically etc) and allow the commander to focus on the big picture, with more objectives would have been good

    I loovedddd the mild asymmetry in the game, the DLC made sure that the rock paper scissors gameplay got turned on it's head very quicky once you ran into players who could juggle well

    I have a working xbox 360 just for this game. Plus i remember just losing battle after battle just to extend the campaign, just to smash everything with the best units. All three factions were so much fun, repeative but still fun when you go into a battle with intent to win. Gonna have to get this on steam. Does the steam version inculde the DLC units?
    edit: i had the parent wtf effect as well, i got my dad to play a bit since the voice commands blew his mind // Multiplayer was also a lot of fun, not where near as toxic as say MW or Halo 3 lobbies were. Still have some of the friends i made through either wrecking or getting wrecked on my friends list.
