I love the simplicity of this Jeep. We are starting to see far more Wranglers in UK because they work with a family, hold their value and are way more fun than everything else.
i think the common theme here is the tires. it's either the tire itself, or the tire pressure that was killing your performance on this. when you end up out with dirt trails you're gonna do just fine.
You would think with all that siping those tires have that they would do pretty sweet in the snow.
@@krashnpa yeah that's where pressure comes in. if they don't look aired down, they're not aired down enough.
@@krashnpayou need studded tires on ice.
Lol its the snow ice and wet.... Tires can only do so much.... Even tho they are the keypart...
The perfect tire for those conditions would be big long spike wheel and zero rubber just spikes.... You can see why nobody uses those...
Been said already, but you have to air down. Looks like they are inflated to the full 3/4 ton truck levels…..LOL.
GO JEEP!!!! No way to go wrong. Best off road reliability, best retail price, more option of accessories than any car in the earth… it’s my Lego.
I like them however the prices are outrageous. I’ve wanted a gladiator since they came out but even a base model with manual windows is over 40k used
This was a steal of a deal. 2016 unlimited rubicons are more than that in Chicago market without the AEV upgrades.
The tires continue to look very disappointing in the snow. We already know that Wranglers -- let alone double locked Wranglers do wonderfully on these obstacles.
From an upstate New Yorker. Please that is not deep snow. We would drive in snow up to 8 inches deep in regular cars !
Can you make a video for newbie’s like me. On 4x4 and when it’s appropriate to use 4H and 4L? When to lock? How about driving on ice?
I like how AEV did some of the mods. The rear bumper design I like the best. I can't believe I'm saying this and I'll preface it by saying In this day and age, it seems like you got a good deal. Great video guys. Let the new Alex know when I say guys, it means her too.
Crazy thing people say big, wide tires don’t do good in the snow. I have a JT on 39x13.5r17 BFG KM3s that does great aired down to 12 or less in the snow. 4 high with limited slip in the rear and I have had no problems. To my knowledge you shouldn’t have lockers on when snow wheeling.
You should give this thing a taste of TFL bids.
Ol Tommy fancy pants must be trying to impress the new hire.
I love watching these videos!! Video confirmation that I can wheel better than at least 3 people out there! ;-)
Tommy, I can’t decide whether you are 19 or 40 years old. 😄
“That’s the thing about snowy adventures”… reminded me of one of your first videos with your high school friends getting stuck on a trail. 😊
Mine is a 2016 I'm slowly building from stock. I LOVE the handling and the fact that it has all the creature comforts available in '16. The UConnect I actually prefer over my wife's JT Gladiator. You are absolutely correct when you say they are a great off-road platform!
These are great, awesome videos to watch.
You must air down properly for the terrain regardles of what tire vehicle terrain combo.
I thought my lockers weren't working on my JK, but after taking about the whole diff it turned out to just be the sensor that registers if its locked or not had failed, NOT the locker. The locker was still engaging just fine and locking up, the sensor just wasn't showing locked. So maybe put your jeep on your slip test and you could check if the front locker was actually locking and it's just your sensor not showing locked. The sensor has zero effect on the operation of the locker, so if it turns out to just be the sensor you could just leave it if you dont mind the blinking light, the front locker will still lock and unlock just fine with a failed sensor.
In the video, it looked like the front locker was engaged on logs
Love it! Keep the JKU videos coming!
Tommy, would you have preferred to buy something like this over your red 2D JL as they’re similarly priced? Would love to hear your thoughts on that! Great vid
You guys should try to do this same test but with some tire chains. It’d be interesting to see what the results would be.
Snow off roading is definitely much harder than normal off roading 😂
As others have said, a chalk test would be a good place to start to get an ideal contact patch on the ground. Lowering tire pressure even lower when the terrain dictates, just be careful you don’t pop a bead wall in certain conditions while off road and at very low tire pressures. Lockers are also very helpful and Jeep still doesn’t offer them on any Wrangler other than a Rubicon. ✌🏼
Less tire pressure may help.
I think those tires are to wide for the snow. Very nice Jeep build, not the best choice of tires for the snow.
That is a Very Nice Build !
I wonder if those protected valve stems could be a problem? It sort of dictates what kind of tools you need for it.
I have the 2017 20th Anniversary Edition (which mainly added some badging and a different leather interior) and just love it. I actually prefer that “old” dash to the newer ones. AEV’s engineering and design of their components and modifications are rock solid, providing safe, comfortable on-road performance with great off-road capabilities. Given the cost of new JLs (not to mention the total cost when adding the AEV mods), I would say you guys made out well. According to Brad at Trail Recon, there are really only a few, well-known repairs to expect when the engine passes around 100,000 miles, which is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.
How safe are these roll bars near your head for city/highway driving? Seems like one can easily get a fatal blow to the head in an accident that one would otherwise easily survive? I know many people who would not drive a vehicle with a roll cage unless it has a 5 point harness and/or wear a helmet. We need you guys to continue generating amazing content. That roll bar looks seriously bad for non off road driving… maybe it needs to be covered with some material so if one were to bang their head in it, it will not crack one’s skull 😬
Oh , and North Shore Bronco . 4x4 overland and Ronny Dahl . A Troller from Brazil might be something . And proper snow reallly , at least 2 feet { it freezes under the snow } . Love the bread van , everybody does .
Nice rig, Tommy!
So sorry . Lite Bright , and Truck King . Lots of tough testing in off off trails . Fun and tough . look to Brazil to find that off roader ..
I have a 2011 JK Rubicon with the bad engine. I am running 5.13 gears, on 35s. I love my JK.
If you guys could do a video with JD Fabrication that shows off the long travel for Toyota Tacomas and 4Runners that would be a really awesome video. Please just think about it.
this is just beautiful jeep
Those tires are trash.
Put the bead locks on and air down the tires to 12 PSI or less and you will be FINE on that snow!
Don't even need beadlocks for snow. On temps that cold and snow that slick, you don't have to worry about debeading the tire until you're into single digits.
I run at 5 psi in the snow. No bead locks. This is 2 wheel drive deep snow.
@@ridgecamper18 5 PSI definitely needs beadlocks where I live (west coast Canada) but I ostly run at 12 PSI and sometimes down to 9 or 10 PSI depending on terrain.
I usually use a company Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on 37's for off-road but I have access to various other company vehicles which I am allowed to take off-road so I can use our Bronco Sasquatches on 37's, F150 Raptors on 37's, some Jeep Gladiator Rubicons and Wrangler Rubicons on Mickey Thompson 40's and even a few Unimogs.
We have found 37 inch beadlock tires with 3-peak snow ratings are the MINIMUM setup needed for the combination of heavy rain, wet snow, soft sand and deep mud forest services roads that we have in the southwest coast mountain range in British Columbia, Canada.
35's just don't do it for us any more since we are ranging farther and farther inland on gnarlier and more overgrown and/or deactivated old logging roads that haven't been maintained in 20 years or more!
We do a lot of personal prospecting and hunting for old undiscovered mining towns and/or settlements and if we find a good place, our group's head honcho simply buys a claim off the BC Government surface and sub-surface mining claims website and we can then do a bit of gold panning or digging the next weekend.
It gives us something to do in our off-hours and we get to enjoy a bit of old-style camping in the deep bush at the same time! We don't find much gold dust but it's fun in its own off-road 4x4 trekking and deep-forest camping sort of way!
V
Great vehicle!
The tires are probably meant for Moab, better go out and test them there instead.
I'd love to have one of these!
That’s why snow wheeling is fun
Seems like the TFL Bronco was a "better" support vehicle but it simply wore out its time with TFL. Would have been nice to have had both and you guy kept the better vehicle
Take away, Tommy has hinted his Willy's is still around someplace. 🤔
Love my Super Jeep 🤠🐶🍺🍺
Does that wrangler come with traction control? It seemed like it was trying to figure it out with trac. just needed to air down first.
But I do miss the bronco😢
I'm surprised at those Mickey Thompsons being that bad. Nice and aggressive, lots of siping, 3PMS rated. Get some Ridge Grapplers or Open Country AT3s. And make sure you're aired down to at least 12 psi in snow - very low risk of debeading the tire at that pressure in the cold and the snow. Or just get beadlocks if it's going to be your dedicated recovery vehicle and then you can air down to single digits.
I think tires are rated from the factory how they work on an asphalt surface as the base and whatever is on top of it , siping only does anything when a tire is against a solid surface and the sipes allow water a place to go out from under the tire , in a field you never have a solid surface not including mud tires or agriculture , etc
Cool Jeep
Another old Jeep video . Lite King in a standard Bronco against modified Jeeps snowjeeping . Love your channels . Up your game .
Well done Jeep
I wish you had tried logs with actual winter tires like blizzaks.
37-12.5 are too wide for good snow traction, you're riding on sleds Tommy!
Greate video! But be careful: minute 11:04, quite wable on that front driver wheel. Suggest checking inner and outer tie rods.
Good skills Tommy!
Bad u joint, cause of most ball joint failures! And many death wobble complaints.
I personally would really like to see Tommy or someone from TFL ( maybe all of them ) buy or take a true beater 4x4 type vehicle , like the purple ZJ with red hood and beat on it to test it's durability and if it breaks , (depending on what vehicle and what shape it is in) fix it , and build it as it breaks lol or just beat it to ☠️💀
"this wood gets really slippery when it's wet" fun turn of phrase easily taken out of context.
I love Jeep wrangler rubicons
I'm sure cooling is affected with those huge lights mounted in front of the grille.
Need to air down way more if you’re going to wheel in the snow
These clowns don't understand that, they really suck offroad. Should have started off airing down to 10psi
How cute that Tommy thought he could have found a lifted, outfitted, Jeep for the camera crew for five grand.
WRONG TIRES!
'rip the suspensions out"? real reliable Jeep you got there....
Where did that happen ?
To the losers bullying Tommy for wearing orange pants: grow up.
Thing is with Chrysler, they may be know for their crappy wiring but as you see with Dodges, jeeps, and Rams, they are very good with their engines
Perfect vehicle for the job, no need to worry about beating it up like the bronco or hummer.
Milage may be low vut I bet that idle time is well above average and that will cause just as much damage as high Milage
You need a freedom winch line Tommy no metal bleeping jeep owns it he might sponsor you for advertising 😉
good jeep with bad tire = bad jeep no matter what the upgrades are. please change those awfull tires. BUT great looking rig
I would have about 10lbs of air in those tires. There's zero reason to have them aired up.
Tommy, the tight orange pants were a bad choice.
$34,000 jeep vs 80,000 bronco. Rescue Rig!!! Going places you would not take your $80,000 Bronco. That's why!
This is why technology nowadays is designed to break. So you have to buy more parts. I still have my S10 blazer. It's an 89 blazer. I just put A350 In it.
Dear Tommy, please do more reviews wearing snug sweat pants. The girls (and some of the guys) really enjoy watching. The Jeep was nice too. Sincerely, The Fans. LMAO.
what a pervert....
Well THIS is weird… 🥴
Love the Jeep. Looks like the front suspension needs maintenance though. The Mickey’s are no BFG’s
Three Peaks Snow rated tires??? 🤔🤔
Three?
@@richfarfugnuven6308 edited haha 😆
Once you learn more about a Jeep you'll realize that lockers are not what you need in SNOW! A limited slip would serve you better and you always thin airing down tires is the solution to everything. NOT SO! You need much more snow and mud experience! There is no substitute for SEAT time and practice. Pushing a button or letting out air isn't key to all situations...............Why don't you just get some SEAT time with the Jeep and see how it really works............
BTW! Lockers are for ROCK CRAWLING!
Hey Tommy, do you still have you jeep Wrangler? Do you plan on modifying you jeep Wrangler?
Haven't heard anything on it..maybe sold it?
He said in a previous video that he sold it...
@@richfarfugnuven6308 the Willys??? Wow I thought he loved it
@@richfarfugnuven6308 do you remember which video?
The transmission isn't a Chrysler transmission Tommy. Its actually a Mercedes transmission.
Awful lot of professional drivers & fashion stylists in this comment section. 😂🥴🙄
I guarantee Tommy literally does not give AF what any of you think. 😂🤣
You don't hear dependable and Jeep in the same sentence very often except when ''Not'' is included.
WTF kind of Colorado skinny jeans fashion statement is that Tommy? LMFAO
Look how easy it was to shift into low gear
JK Interior/Exterior upgrades 2011
Engine (3.6 Pentastar) and Transmission (5 speed auto) upgrades 2012
He’s still young, he will learn. All the clearance, lockers, tires, make no diff on the ice and slick snow. The only solution is studded tires or chains.
I'm sure he knows. This is an entertainment channel. Struggling ike in the video starts the conversation down here, which all helps feed the algorithm which in turn grows the channel. Savvy rather than silly as far as I can see 👍
Duratracs would have made it. Bet
i think the tires are the issue
It is my experience that narrow tires often do better in snow and in mud.
I disappointed that for a Offroad guy that does videos in snow that you didn’t figure out you need less air pressure in those tires.
Hey kid, whats your secret to affording all those vehicles?
Unfortunately those tires didn’t do to well.
Come pick up my 1999 Grand Cherokee with 4.7 and Quadra drive and put it through the paces for me lol just don’t break it
Video needs more drama, more crying, a possible love interest.
do you think the bronco is better than this Wrangler
Looks like it's hunting season with those pants 😂
Should have kept that bronco boys lol😁
Yeah, Wranglers aren't tippy enough off road! 😂
according to consumer reports, the wrangler is a very unreliable vehicle when equipped with the plasticstar or 4 banger. I have never owned a wrangler so i don't know but I found the consumer reports to be interesting about Jeep.
Thoroughly unimpressive performance from 37 inch tires..
Can barely get through a dusting of snow.
Not much love in the comment section for the jeep or Tommy’s choice in trousers.
Nice Video as always. Jeep doesn't have a CVT and still has limitations ;-) I don't have a Jeep and haven't tried this and still in learning process.
But after watching so many off-roading videos (rock, sand, mud and snow) , I am guessing that for this capable vehicle, the issue must be the tires and/or air pressure. I have seen that in situation like this, mostly at least one front tire always get a grip that helps get past the hurdle.
lower the tire pressure to 10 psi, problem would of been solved.
In the 2 performance videos ive seen.. that new old Jeep is a dog.. lol
The 3.6 is just a weak powertrain to begin with
