The popularity of rock was really starting to decline around the time the show aired. If it started 5+ years earlier it probably would’ve ran a lot longer.
Man, COVID induced binging both Rockstar seasons again after so many years was fun. A little sad knowing there was never a 3rd season. I wonder if other countries ever did a similar show with the Rock genre
I had the whole series on VHS and watched it multiple times. Recently, my VCR got hungry and ate a couple of my tapes. So, here I am in RUclips world looking for my beloved Rockstar Supernova series and there it was! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I wish they would bring this type of series again! Lukas rocks!!!!
I remember watching this every night back in 2006 in Ireland, it brings back good memories, from a good TV show I always remember. I lived in the Netherlands prior to when Dilana was famous, I've always thought she was Dutch.
Magni, Toby, Ryan and Storm were too damn good for Supernova, even Lukas it's better off without them. Supernova was a joke, but damn, at least we got to know amazing musicians
It was a reality tv show that focused on above average karaoke level talent. We all know the “process” of finding a singer was more entertaining than the short lived band.
I got to meet Suzie Mig Ty and a couple of the others in Brantford at the liquid lounge. They performed and they were all outstanding it was awesome. They are Great and the nicest people.
Thanks for the chance to watch these again. Interesting parallels between the seasons. Both won by the bad boy outsider who stirred up trouble in the house early, showed up to song writing with minimal, eventually came around making friends, and ultimately won.
What a ride and too bad there were no more seasons to come. But then again, look what happened to the world: Streaming video, Social media, smart phones, the change of fame, the "death" of RockStars. Even back when this show aired the whole rock world and it's attitudes was coming to an end. The SuperNova guys were old and on their way out. The sexism that was cute and acceptable would probably get them cancelled today. That being said, I miss these shows and will watch them again if another round happens.

First of all I sent a CD into Rockstar with the story that it was going to be Van Halen that was looking for a lead singer. I was very disappointed that it was a "supergroup" collaboration as they very seldom last (like this one). Also there was not one leader/ songwriter so I knew the songs would probably not be hits. I feel this was just a publicity stunt as Jason balled shortly after the CD was released (he did ) I know that Queen also turned this show down also. CBS was scrambling to find a band for the season as Van Halen according to stories pulled an 11th hour on this show. I had a bad feeling that there would not be a third season and I was right. Still I watched every episode as I am a musician and love music. Would love to see another season.
I remember hearing about the Van Halen and Queen part. Might have been interesting if Van Halen had done it? What would have been great is if they did and Ralph Saenz got on the show. He is Michael Star in Steel Panther and they did a Van Halen cover band "Atomic Punks" for years and HE does Dave like no one else.

@@msstarlight4770 No no, it works. As I said, a lot of people felt the show was rigged and that the band picked Lukas early, and kept the others purely to have a television show for the summer. I honestly don't think it worked that way. If it did, then these other 14 people wasted time and money on flights to go and try out.
@@tayl2991 I see it as they maybe had a ranking system, for who they thought would be a good fit for the band, but then tested them in various ways. Though I have no doubt some were chosen because they would simply be entertaining. Most of the artists got great exposure from being on the show, & a couple were offered recording deals or got a leg up in the industry from being on the show.

Toby should've won! He definitely would've helped Supernova appeal to a broader audience. Toby was just so damn likable! Picking Lukas was a mistake :(

i was an audience member for the finale and one other time, good times! n just saw Dilana last night in Hermosa beach perform 5 mo's pregnant dressed rocked out with lil belly all showing! she is like 4 foot 7 without shoes!! just a tiny lil woman with a big vox, very kewl! we spoke a bit after the show, her vox is way less raspy cuz she quit smoking, tis way prettier sounding!
storm did suffragette city with dave navarro as well and killed it. i think that all though dilana and lukas were awesome the whole way through, the very best performances were tobys, magnis and storms (ryan as well but he needs an instrument to be brilliant). they took a safe singer, but a bad personality and they broke up because of it. if they had taken a chance on the odd showstopping performance, and a decent band member, they might have survived.
My favs were 1) Dilana 2) Toby 3) Storm... Lukas is good, I hated him at first but I started to like him. I also loved Zayra, although a lot of her solo stuff sucks (VIP etc). I guess 2nd, 3rd and 5th are pretty good positions for my favs.
All these years later, it still pisses me off that they chose Lukas over Dilana. But...it was probably the best decision for Dilana’s career! You were and STILL are fabulous. 🤘🏼😁

It was a network show. Contract signed to perform for 6 months after but otherwise just exposure for the group. Those contestants were to acknowledge exposure would be the price so all involved would be satisfied.
I got to sing It’s All Love with Lukas! I asked him to sing it and if I could sing with him, and I sang most of it because the camera audio had a delay. This was in a Zoom call. He had done a performance show, and I got to go to the afterparty. First time in the afterparty, and I was so nervous asking him, in spite of talking to him earlier in the evening. Yeah, I’m the same girl who’s been defending him on RUclips since 2006. I’m almost 27 years old, now. Too old to stay stuck in that BS.
Still think Dilana or Magni should have won. Magni what can I say awesome awesome voice hope he goes far! Dilana you are also an awesome singer hope you go far! You both Wowed us!

He and his wife Kendra are raising a son, and they live in Nashville. He's happy with his life, and right now due to this pandemic, he's using the website stageit to perform acoustic shows from home. The House Band were the Rockstars, they could have taken the top 5 and sold out arenas. I knew Supernova would nose dive, Gilby is average rhythm guitarist, Tommy is just an average all flash drummer and a pig (that's why he chose Lucas), Jason was the only one with talent and a brain. Magni was awesome and there was no way Gilby would allow him to join because Magni would have shown him up in talent, guitar and singing.

I. Watching this for thr first time. Realizing its 12 years old. The show did nothing for any of the contestants careers. It was all a big joke. Supernova sucked and was put together for the show. Still there was way better talent than lukas participating.

I really loved that show because first foremost its Rock music which set it apart. Also the likes of Navarro, Gilby, Tommy Lee and Jason are all great musicians in their own right. The show started to suck though when the public started having to much input and how fake was it in Finale............Lucas deservedly so get told he is the new front man of a rock band going on tour, every other fucker in the world would go into shock, yet he just said yeah that's great ..........Its all boringly and badly rehearsed which is not cool for a supposed live show.
Lukas Rossi and Chris Daughtry need to write and perform a song together! That would be EPIC! Lukas had Stageit shows this weekend, and he was amazing! My f@$!ing phone battery is so bad, it died right in the middle, and my data was super slow!
Let's face it, there were a lot of mediocre and even cringeworthy performances in this show but it was good entertainment nonetheless. Some of the contestants were not exactly a bowl of cherries either. To be honest, all the train wrecks are more evident watching it now again than they were fifteen years ago. I guess one doesn't really see what's there when caught up in the moment. Best performances? Probably Creep and Roxanne, maybe a couple more... hope they're all doing well. Enjoyed watching it again.
you're not kidding! First time seeing Season 2. It WAS cringeworthy. omg. The girls all talkin tough, trying to be their perception of rocker-chick. newsflash; they don't lower their speaking voices 5 octaves, talk like sex pigs as per Tommy, stick out their pierced tongues, scream-sing in rasp voice and converse w/ the opposite sex with "man", "dude", "bro" at the end of every exchange. Also, the prominent music vibe was the dirge, cacophonous grunge-rock, non-melodic sounds of the 2000s. I fucking hated the music, hated the way the women singers acted and most especially, found the majority of the contestants absolutely dreadful!!!! Someone said it was much like karaoke. It was; with them pretending to be what their vision of a rock star is/was. I skipped from Ep. 5 & went straight to Finale. Rockstar INXS was much more tolerable, with better talent. Oddly enough, I did not mind the sexist innuendo from Tommy. I miss the days before political correctness. The best part of each of the two series were the absolutely brilliant backing band.
The important thing to remember here is that the show was set up for pure entertainment purposes. Those that came on the show as performers were given the chance to showcase their talent and winning is either short term or long term depending on how it turns out for the contestant. Networks and Tommy Lee inc. do not suffer at all. Well there you have it.

I remember this SO well, everyone I knew thought Dilana was going to win, but I think the decision to choose Lukas was made very early on in the show.

The crowd's reaction is a testament to the fact that sending Toby home was a terrible decision.

That raspy voice was what made her so good. I heard Behind Closed Doors and she didn't have that Joplin-ish voice.

I loved watching this show, but the decision was fucking bullshit, and most people who saw it know that.
I wanted Lukas to win from the moment I first saw him because he is hot and his voice is unique
i agree with you on that...and he did win...he deserved it dilanas performance was less than stellar and even toby could have done better...just saying is all...im not a big fan of g&r at least not with axl...i did love velvet revolver tho...scott weiland was amazing too...rip... and yes he is lovely to look at...haha...they all are...

The House Band were the Rockstars, they could have taken the top 5 and sold out arenas. I knew Supernova would nose dive, Gilby is average rhythm guitarist, Tommy is just an average all flash drummer and a pig (that's why he chose Lucas), Jason was the only one with talent and a brain. Magni was awesome and there was no way Gilby would allow him to join because Magni would have shown him up in talent, guitar and singing.
I still have no idea how Lukas won.

I. Watching this for thr first time. Realizing its 12 years old. The show did nothing for any of the contestants careers. It was all a big joke. Supernova sucked and was put together for the show. Still there was way better talent than lukas participating.
And the limited song choices sucked.

I really loved that show because first foremost its Rock music which set it apart. Also the likes of Navarro, Gilby, Tommy Lee and Jason are all great musicians in their own right. The show started to suck though when the public started having to much input and how fake was it in Finale............Lucas deservedly so get told he is the new front man of a rock band going on tour, every other fucker in the world would go into shock, yet he just said yeah that's great ..........Its all boringly and badly rehearsed which is not cool for a supposed live show.

Let's face it, there were a lot of mediocre and even cringeworthy performances in this show but it was good entertainment nonetheless. Some of the contestants were not exactly a bowl of cherries either. To be honest, all the train wrecks are more evident watching it now again than they were fifteen years ago. I guess one doesn't really see what's there when caught up in the moment. Best performances? Probably Creep and Roxanne, maybe a couple more... hope they're all doing well. Enjoyed watching it again.
you're not kidding! First time seeing Season 2. It WAS cringeworthy. omg. The girls all talkin tough, trying to be their perception of rocker-chick. newsflash; they don't lower their speaking voices 5 octaves, talk like sex pigs as per Tommy, stick out their pierced tongues, scream-sing in rasp voice and converse w/ the opposite sex with "man", "dude", "bro" at the end of every exchange.
Also, the prominent music vibe was the dirge, cacophonous grunge-rock, non-melodic sounds of the 2000s. I fucking hated the music, hated the way the women singers acted and most especially, found the majority of the contestants absolutely dreadful!!!! Someone said it was much like karaoke. It was; with them pretending to be what their vision of a rock star is/was.
I skipped from Ep. 5 & went straight to Finale. Rockstar INXS was much more tolerable, with better talent.
Oddly enough, I did not mind the sexist innuendo from Tommy. I miss the days before political correctness.
The best part of each of the two series were the absolutely brilliant backing band.

Gilby and Supernova is such a joke...only reason to watch this show was Dilana. They should have kicked gilby and had Navarro on guitars!
The important thing to remember here is that the show was set up for pure entertainment purposes. Those that came on the show as performers were given the chance to showcase their talent and winning is either short term or long term depending on how it turns out for the contestant. Networks and Tommy Lee inc. do not suffer at all. Well there you have it.
