  • A pilot who has been on an $11 million expedition to find out what happened to Amelia Earhart believes he may have found her plane at the bottom of the Pacific. Tony Romeo took sonar images of what seems to be an airplane-shaped object resting on the floor of the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island, which is located roughly halfway between Hawaii and Australia.

It's great if it is. But that could be any plane. I'm sure that many small aircraft have flown over that region in the past 87 years.

The reporter at the end stated that she was a " really good " pilot ! Actually she was an okay pilot that came along at the right time. Her husband exploited her and turned her into a money making machine with the book deals, endorsements, ect. and pushed her too hard . He liked the glamor and she liked his money that afforded her to fly. She was in over her head with this flight as well in over head with the complex plane she was flying. Her years risk taking in aviation finally caught up with her. Her accident is what is called a " doctor - lawyer accident " where one has the money to own a complex airplane but not the skills to fly it safely. This should of never happened .

Until we get a remote operated vehicle down to photograph the wreckage there’s no guarantee that could be the Lockheed Electra 10E flown by Earhart A closer look at the wreckage will be needed.

Unlikely that an aircraft crashing into the ocean wouldn't break up on impact. That "image" looks like an intact plane. I suppose she could have done a "Sully" type landing, but I wouldn't
bet the farm on that being Earhart's plane.

Depending on the impact, or angle of hitting the water, the pressure may even take one, or both wings off. The engine nacelles would act as brakes, putting tons of pressure on the wings. We'll have wait and see what they find.

I'd expect them to send down a sub next to video it and confirm what it is before they start making any plans to raise it - if indeed raising it after all these years is even feasible - especially from more than three miles down! A tad premature to start discussing it.

She was a terrible pilot. If she were flying today, she would be permanently grounded. She crashed every thing she flew. She never was solo, she had a navigator onboard the plane. She was just a media magnet. She couldn’t hold a candle to Poncho Barnes and her aviation exploits. Poncho just wasn’t a media hound.
