I started when my neighbor was moving and said I could have her plants. The new owner pulled them all up and piled them in the trash pickup across the street. I have gotten 2 or 3 pineapples every year and they reproduce. Last year I got 8 plus the 2 I gave away. I now have over 30 plants. Your video is very good!
I know this is 4 years old, but I have to say, you are a great teacher! My father was a college professor, his brother and father were college professors, and I was an instructor for the Air Force. I can say, with authority, that you do an excellent job of not only showing the necessary steps for success, but also showing that you are not just a teacher by sharing the nuanced details and skill that one only learns after becoming a master of their trade. The seemingly trivial pointers you give at every step add up to help some of us newb's avoid seasons of silly mistakes. Bravo! And thank you for sharing your passion and talent, hopefully I can take a step beyond what you have shown me.
Thank you SO much Steve. That's exactly what i'm going for. It was never my intention to becom a RUclipsr, But 11 years ago I joined a group for men looking to better themselves. We would challenge each other and then hold each other accountable for completing those challenges. Starting a RUclips channel was one the challenges given to me. At first I had no idea what I was doing (or even why, really), and my early videos were pretty terrible, but I watched a lot of other RUclipsr's videos, not to emulate them, but to find what was missing in them so that I could make better videos, myself. The two things I found to be almost universally missing from mostYT videos is basic info for beginners, and follow-up videos, showing the results. Everyone shows the planting of a seed but very few show the seed sprouting, and no one shows that tree, years later, producing fruit. Thanks again, amigo.
This is probably the best pineapple video I have found. He appears genuinely knowledgeable. He just wants to disseminate knowledge, not to be an influencer.
When I first saw this video I was wondering why it was so long. Then I saw that the first part was months or year separate from the rest. Then I saw how much detail you went into, explaining about frost damage and digging up the secondary growth and how to use remove and replant the head of the pineapple. Great stuff man, you really did some good work with this video.
Thanks so much for this video! No one ever talks about the actual “care” of pineapple plants mostly only how to harvest. I learned a lot from this video.
First thanks so much. Detailed and easy to understand. Second, I would like to send a photo of my pineapple growing in a 5 gal bucket in sub tropical Andes. According to your video it is no where near harvesting. It is also a smaller variety and never turns yellow. the leaves are red and yellow striped. This is the second growth on an original crown. I cut off the fruit. chopped it back, threw in more compost and just watered it. Notice the suckers growing. this did not happen on the first growth. It is very exciting. Third, other than compost about twice a year, I just watered once a week in the very very hot dry season and not at all in the rainy season and threw in my daily overnight soaked coffee grounds, maybe once a month ( I wander aground the yard and share the grounds amongst numerous plants). This new pineapple is less than a year from original harvest. It is fun. It is stunning. Lets celebrate.
This was extremely helpful. I have 7 pineapple plants that I have been growing in a condo in FL. All came from one plant. I have finally moved to a home with a yard and vetting ready to transplant them into the ground. I'm excited - I know they will be healthier. I learned what the suckers and slips are from you. Thank you.
Thanks for the informative video. I am growing three pineapples from the same plant. My first attempt. The fruits are growing excellent. Central Florida.
Best of the gardening video that I ever ever have seen. At the end of it I have a feeling that "today I learnt something" Sir, I removed the crown and allowed it to dry (in shade) for 3to 4 days and then I submerged in glass of water. The crown has developed lovely roots. I will be planting it in mud tomorrow after the lunar eclipse passes, specially as tomorrow I turn 65. Wish you had said a few words on the type of soil.
My one top that accidentally rooted in compost yielded a great fruit about 2 years later plus 12 pups or suckers which have all yielded fruit and more suckers. It's addictive. Thank goodness I have lots of room. Even made it through a pretty cold winter here in northeast Florida with some covering and moving smaller plants. Just picked one today. This video is my bible! Thanks for making it.
Thanks for the time and detail you put into this video. Definitely the best video on pineapple growing. Showing the slips, suckers and ratoons and how to keep your patch growing larger and larger is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
I just moved to the Treasure coast, from Tampa bay, and OMG... My pineapple LOVE south Florida!! Mango, avocado, papaya...my babies are HAPPY!! Great video, thanks!
this is just me "if it works for you from day one. then, don't stop, no matter what people say"! great job with the plants my friend! very very educational and informative video
Thank you!! I almost didn’t watch it because it was a little bit too long, but I’m so glad I decided to watch. So much great information, a lot more than other videos I’ve watched.
Thanks for all the great info! I'm on my first pineapple plant, and it's growing large in a big pot but started showing that chartreuse/yellowing, so thank you so much for covering that!!
I have been growing pineapples from tops for over 20 years & I have learn more today then the whole 20 years. Not all Organic farmers are hippes. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. Your garden looks amazing! I am in New Zealand and just growing pineapple for the first time and I have found your video to be really informative. My 2 plants are obviously in need of some iron which I learned from you in the last part of the video. Thanks again and happy growing. 👍👍
Thanks for this video. This afternoon I found my first flower ever forming on a (neglected) potted pineapple plant and wondered what to do with it. Your video was so interesting, I now feel more confident about looking after the plant. I just hope that after years of mistreatment, it won’t resent being respected at last!
Thanks so much for this. I didn't know what the yellowing meant... and now have a way to keep on top of it. It's my first time growing pineapples (Moved from Canada to Brisbane) and I have 3 small fruits growing in pots. Now I know the next step and a kinder way to treat them. I really appreciate the time you put into this video. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I waited 2yrs for my first pineapple to grow and turned to the internet to find out what to do next. This video is easy to follow and very informative.
A lot of work went into this video, thank you. I've never considered growing a pineapple, but after this video I'm confident I'll have my freshly cut pineapple crown sprouted and ready for planting. Subbed and thank you!
Thank you for your video. I did plant tops of my store bought pineapple in the ground...but was not successful...now I start putting one...and it's been growing very well...but I need more sunlight... Now that I come across your video..I am encourage..and will carry those infoto my small farm in my tropical country... Do you have tips on how to grow cuttings from AVOCADO...or any tips .... Thank you very much.. I did subscribed.:)
Adding 1/4 gram of vitamin c ( ascorbic acid ) will kill municipal water chlorine in about 15 minutes. The ascorbic acid also gets rid of excess carbonate alkalinity and further enhances iron absorption & root growth.
Good to know 😉 I've only been able to grow houseplants for 8 years now ( because I've downsized to apartment living) but my new apartment has a small front yard and a smaller back yard) but I'll be able to have a big enough for me garden next year I can almost taste the tomatoes😋 all I'll need for supper is a salt shaker ha ha!
I love how you can create a new clone pineapple simply from harvesting the tops and planting them . The resilience of them wanting to grow simply astounds me.
Our Christmas freeze of 2022 was three consecutive days of 12 or more hours of 20's. Made cold frames and covered all my pineapples. Harvested one fruit day before the freeze. Some in the ground really took it hard, but I'm now looking at four pineapple fruits! Might have lost 3 or 4 plants. It was heartbreaking! Your video gave me confidence to let nature take its course and see who will make it.
This is the best video I have ever seen on pineapples. Thanks soooooo much. Living in st thomas next to a small pineapple farm and have access to home growns. Now I can get my own patch going so much more robustly!!!! Kudos to you on your perseverance for putting this video together. Thanks!!
Fantastic video amigo, thank you! I've been patiently waiting for my pineapple to ripen on the stem here in North Florida...the last time I harvested one last year I waited until it was golden yellow on the plant and it was so sweet and delicious. Hopefully no varmints get a hold of this one!
You definitely helped me out, thanks. I got 4 juicy pineapples this year without doing much of anything, but now I'm looking forward to using your technique and getting pineapples every year, instead of every year and a half.
I just watched this video, and as many others have commented, learned more today than ever. I have 10 plants and have harvested several fruits over the last 3 years. However, I've experienced several of the issues you've described - rotting after planting suckers and yellowing of the leaves. I never knew why this was happening; thank you for the thorough explanation of how to care for the plants properly.
Thank you for the complete information about growing pineapples. I’ve been growing them I got a few pineapples. I know now how to give better care to my plants to get more pineapples. Know I understand why the problems a faced growing them before. Great information!, keep up the good work
Great video! I finally know why my pineapples were turning light green. Note: Phosphate is phosphate, but buying organic is as much about the methods of producing those nutrients, as it is applying them. Large mining operations destroy local habitats, water supplies and ecosystems to produce their nutrients/chemicals. Where we spend our dollars is just as important as how we cast a ballot on election day. Thanks again Randy. Great job.
My grandad once told me that when he was abroad with the army ( I don't know where excatly ), the nearby farmers would ask him for iron filings from the maintenance shop he worked in. They would put the iron filings in the soil to treat their pineapples. They gave him pineapples in return. He said he ate so many that his mouth became sore. I'm not sure how well it worked as a treatment for iron deficiency, but they seemed convinced. 😀
I'm now enlightened the proper techniques of planting pineapple plant here, thanks so much in sharing your knowledge regarding the proper method of planting & cultiring the pipeapple plants.
Your leaf yellowing is a sign of overall nutrient deficiency. Iron also shows because it is the first nutrient to get locked out at a raising soil ph, which is more common in potted plants...most tap water has a ph 7.8-8.2, so watering can raise the ph of the soil, your nutrients(contains acids) are also very limited so they get used up quickly, and some nutrients get flushed out the bottom of the pot from a normal watering. A properly balanced nutrient(organic or not) contains the proper chemicals and acids that your soil needs to feed the roots. Giving your plants not only water but regular feedings is a necessity to fast and healthy plant growth.
I decided to grow a pineapple a couple months back but I did not do any research, I had it in a small pot and I transferred it over today. It has a good root system but it has very little leaves. I had it in just with just outside soil. I added actual garden soil and a larger pot. I trimmed off the brown leaves, thanks for the information 😁
I happened to have a pineapple from the store, so I followed your video. Thank you, as I am in UK I only ever saw a pineapple growing in Jamaica..they made pina colada! But I was very encouraged by this as even in victorian england they had hot houses over the warm water drainages so they had simulated heat which caused pineapples to flourish, Thank you very much. I grow gooseberries, they take cuttings very easily too, I started with one pot bound bush grateful to be released into good soil, now i have about 9 bushes. Love gardening.
I got my first flower this morning. I only started with one, didn’t think I could do it…. Now I’m going crazy ready to start 2 more. I’m in Orlando so your info is perfect for me
That was a very informative video learned a great deal from you and I have a Degree in Horticulture I guess there is always room for more knowledge Great job
John Wolfe Despite a degree, I find it so heartfelt to know when to step back and show humility while learning vast more knowledge. You must be someone’s keeper, my friend. 🍍
Will be a proper (household level) pineapple grower from this video!! Planted some from a crown 2 years ago n still counting the years but I hear it's 3 yrs so fingers crossed.
Wow this is so very informative, for months I have been wondering what to do with the plant after reaping, so now I know that I am to remove the ration . My only. Challenge is that the plant is in a pot....thank you so so much🇯🇲🇯🇲❤️✅👍
What did you observe that informed you to add iron and not nitrogen? Also have you looked into and/or tried adding epsom salt to your soil? Rumor has it it helps makes nutrients more available. I can't remember which nutrients exactly but I want to guess magnesium and maybe nitrogen and phosphorous. Regardless I worked on a farm and they had a natural soil blend that included epsom I would mix up for all of our plants, both potted and in beds, and everything thrived! Potatoes looooved that mix. Great informative video!
Great video. I have been watching videos about pineapple plants all day. This one has been the most useable easy to understand information. Thank you i greatly appreciate all the work you put into it. You just got a new subscriber.
Thanks for the great info! Just moved to Puerto Rico and am loving the tropical plant education! ive had gardens all over the states from Michigan to Colorado so Im feeling very fortunate to be somewhere I can grow tropical!! So far I have avocados, mangos and mamonella rooted and planted in pots and gearing up for pinapple, star fruit and papaya. Just starting out so really appreciate the help! Sandra
Hi Sandra That's cool. You can grow things I can't. Don't limit yourself to things you have heard of. Seek out trying unusual new fruits to see if you like them. Try jakfruit, mangosteens and other garcinias, ice cream beans, jaboticabas, and soursop. There are so many amazing fruits that ou have probably never tried, that you can grow now. Good luck! Cheers
I have 4 plants, all in pots, ranging from 3 months to 2 years. 3 crowns, one sucker. All are light green. Will be using the tomato firtilizer and iron. Excellent information!
An excellent video. Thank you so much. I planted a pineapple stem 3 years ago and finally got a small delicious pineapple and lots of suckers. As for techniques I did everything wrong! Yet I eventually harvested a pineapple! Thanks for your informed guidance!
Awesome video!!!! Thanks for sharing! I do want to ask, should you pot the crowns immediately after removing them? Or do you usually let them sit out a bit? I also see some videos where people put them into a glass of water to let the roots grow a bit. What's your chosen method? Thanks!
I show it in the video. I root them in soil. Normally I plant them right away, but I've also let them sit too. Either way I get roots. This is because I'm starting with healthy robust crowns. The crowns on the fruits at the grocery store are frequently dehydrated and kinda banged up. Those need to be planted immediately. Rooting in water is a waste of time, and more likely to rot the crown.
Randy's Tropical Plants Figures I'd miss that,I should have watched it again. I originally thought you cut away from filming to a day or two after you removed them. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, for this. I want to grow pineapples but was concerned they would each be one hit wonders and you've shown me this is just not the case. I will definitely be growing pineapples now. Big, big thank you.
Hi, Randy, I've been growing some pineapples from crows the oldest one is about two years old but it still hasn't bloomed... do I just need to be patient or is there something I need to do? Also, I'm just curious where you live that you are growing such huge pineapples but still get 20 degree winters? I live in ABQ NM and I am scared to leave them outside during the winter. Btw great tips on the yellowing plants I wondered why they were turning that color.
I read that you can make the pineapple bloom by putting an apple in front of the plant and cover them with a plastic bag. The apple will rot and itt will make the plant bloom I don't really know how. 😊
Thanks for all the details. I've got a lovely little yellow pineapple ready to be enjoyed. It's nice to learn that I'll have another one in about a year.
A very well done video! I do not see this kind of information about pineapple videos. Thanks so much because I was never going to try pineapples again. Waiting 3 years and still no pineapple from a few I have tried.
Sooooo informative & detailed, thank you!!! I got lost on knowing how to identify "Suckers & Slips", (would make for a great RUclips channel🤣) nothing a little rewind can't solve. But so far, if it is coming from the original stalk, it is a slip & must be removed. If it is shooting out from the rest of the plant, leave it on UNLESS it is coming from the root then twist it off as well 🤦🏽♀️. Lol, I'll get it. Loved this video. Thanks again!✌️
Thank you so much for all this information! This is the most informative video I've seen on gardening, let alone pineapples. I've been throwing away so many potential pineapple plants once the original plant fruited. I had no idea.
Great video. New to growing pineapples 🍍. From the north, now a fl transplant. What a world of difference with growing seasons and plants. Do have questions about coconut palms i am growing as well. Thanks again for a such an informative video.
Thank you for making a video of actually knowing how to grow pineapple. I do have a small critic, yes don't cut the tops off. I twist instead of snapping the tops off like you do but you are spot on with pulling off the small leafs from the tops for starting new plants. Yes there are new roots ready to grow hidden by those leaves so pull them off. I wait a day before planting the tops so the tear can dry heal like a potato start. I seen some wood grass at 6:15 and 6:22. Must be a clip from June to August because wood grass is dormant/dried down in January.
Thanks Randy, trying to grow a 🍍 here in the UK over winter starting with the crown. So much great info in this, all my questions answered. Hero, cheers!
This is one of the most simple and informative no nonsense videos. I wish more people made their videos like this. Just give me info no rambling.

Thank you!
Awesome info! Thank you so much! I'm in zone 8b (Gulf Coast Alabama) what zone are you growing these amazing fruits outside?
Randy's Tropical Plants were beautiful in

Thanks for taking the time to cover growing, feeding & harvesting pineapples. :)
How do you get the plant to flower .
Dude. Great job. Not just the info on growing pineapples, but also the way you diplomatically handled the other concerns of different people.

Best, most informative pineapple video I have seen.
Yes it is. He does it right on all the basics.
Was going to like this comment but let's keep it at 69
You just made me the smartest pineapple grower. I've been doing it all wrong. You are on point👍
of all the pineapple planting videos, you're the one Ace who actually gives helpful details. Thanks for the help!
I just moved to the Treasure coast, from Tampa bay, and OMG... My pineapple LOVE south Florida!!

I grow my own pineapples and learn as I go. I appreciate the depth of your video and seeing your techniques. Thank you for the great tutorial!
Thanks! Good luck growing.
Do you ever use a root starter
I have been growing pineapples from tops for over 20 years & I have learn more today then the whole 20 years.

Yellowing can also be from too much sun and colder temps, I've found in SE FL
It’s been 3 years
How’d you go?
*someone from Rockhampton
Great information! The fertilizer bit really helped, I'm growing my first plant in a pot (TX) and now I know it needs more nutrients. thanks!
Thank you! I have been gardening for 63 years. This video was VERY informative and well presented.
Well done Randy! I was doing most of it correct, but certainly glad I learned a few critical lessons today to perfect my current batch. Thx!

Awesome suggestion. Thanks!
what vitamin c exactly are you adding? a vitamin pill ? oj?? (kidding on the oj)
Some acids like ascorbic and citric acid are great natural additives and they are readily absorbed.
captmack007 no vitamins contain other chemicals you don’t want... you can buy it on amazon.com it’s food grade= good stuff.

my understanding is that the slips and suckers will render fruit faster than planting the tops

Hi thanks for your comment. Question... how long does it take from planting to harvest?
The best-explained gardening vid I've seen. Thanks a lot!
Good work. I am reposting this on my blog, Randy. Much appreciated.
Thanks David. You've been an awesome friend.
Thanks for this detailed information! I learnt a few new points, Ive been growing them for years! Cheers

I can imagine that it works. Even a rusty nail would provide iron to the soil

Thanks so much for this video! I’m ready to grow my patch! Any tips for a pineapples leave that are going pink?
I happened to have a pineapple from the store, so I followed your video. Thank you, as I am in UK I only ever saw a pineapple growing in Jamaica..they made pina colada! But I was very encouraged by this as even in victorian england they had hot houses over the warm water drainages so they had simulated heat which caused pineapples to flourish, Thank you very much. I grow gooseberries, they take cuttings very easily too, I started with one pot bound bush grateful to be released into good soil, now i have about 9 bushes. Love gardening.
So informative, I learned a lot from you. Great idea about the weakly watering! Thank you, Randy!
You said they take 18 months to grow can they handle the cold or do you got a grown where you can take them indoors
I got my first flower this morning. I only started with one, didn’t think I could do it…. Now I’m going crazy ready to start 2 more. I’m in Orlando so your info is perfect for me
Mine are all blooming now too...squeeeee!
Thanks a lot very informative, a complete guide for pineapple grower..
Thanks, very helpful and informative.
Thank you so very much for video! What started as 4 plants last year has grown into 18!!! The new name for the yard is the pineapple Plantation!!!!
Wow this is a really great and informative video! Thanks for the fertilizer and iron deficiency info!!
Thank you so much for your instructions on how to propagate pineapple. They're good, clear, detailed and helpful 👌.
good video thanks,,our pineapple suckers are growing in composted manure and shredded wood chips,,the last one picked was 8lbs.
Sweet
What type of manure?
ThankU Randy, this video gave me the most info I’ve ever watched or read. 😁
That was a very informative video learned a great deal from you and I have a Degree in Horticulture I guess there is always room for more knowledge Great job
John Wolfe
Despite a degree, I find it so heartfelt to know when to step back and show humility while learning vast more knowledge.
You must be someone’s keeper, my friend. 🍍
Will be a proper (household level) pineapple grower from this video!! Planted some from a crown 2 years ago n still counting the years but I hear it's 3 yrs so fingers crossed.
Thank You!!! Your wealth of knowledge Is amazing!!! And I'm definitely going to try this
😋😋😋😋😋😋
~ Blessings ~
Thank you very much for this video, you have answered all my questions regarding growing pineapples, and the mistakes I've been making.
1:38 - Man that's a beautiful pineapple, the leaves are all symmetrical and pretty big on the crown.
Super informative. Great!
Sandra
Hi Sandra
That's cool.
Good luck!
Cheers
“Crunchy granola hippy peeps”...lol
I have 4 plants, all in pots, ranging from 3 months to 2 years. 3 crowns, one sucker. All are light green. Will be using the tomato firtilizer and iron. Excellent information!
When you "feed/fertilize" how much do you give to each plant and do you pour it on the plant or just in the soil?
Look into korean natural farming. Make your own for pennies
An excellent video. Thank you so much. I planted a pineapple stem 3 years ago and finally got a small delicious pineapple and lots of suckers. As for techniques I did everything wrong! Yet I eventually harvested a pineapple!
Thanks for your informed guidance!
Congratulations. There isn't any "one right way" to grow any plant.
A great resource for pineapple care. The most detailed and informative video I' ve seen yet. Thank you sir!
Pineapple makes my tongue numb. Looking forward to planting my rooting sucker (water rooted).
Bnd K it from the gas the apple will put off when it rots. They say this works but I’ve never done it personally. Cheers
Thanks for all the details. I've got a lovely little yellow pineapple ready to be enjoyed. It's nice to learn that I'll have another one in about a year.
i love pineaple
A very well done video! I do not see this kind of information about pineapple videos. Thanks so much because I was never going to try pineapples again. Waiting 3 years and still no pineapple from a few I have tried.
Always take people who say "never ever ever ever ever" words seriously, they experienced it.

Been growing pineapple for years in a giant pot on my balcony in sunny Australia. I learned something new from your video. Thank you.
Why is my pineapple so small?
Because it's not outside most likely
Cheers for the detailed info! Just followed your instructions for my very first core starter! Fingers crossed! Thanks x (from Australia)
Out-Freaking-Standing! Great detail and very informative video. Thank you for your time and efforts in sharing these Golden Nuggets of wisdom!
Thanks so much. I have more coming.
Very informative video. Thanks for taking your time and knowledge to educate us.
Thanks Randy, trying to grow a 🍍 here in the UK over winter starting with the crown. So much great info in this, all my questions answered. Hero, cheers!
Good luck!
Best informative, educating and interesting video on pineapples 🍍
Thank you so much!!!!
