    Hi Keith - Just as important to check old filter ring is not on the filter pad. Have seen a few engines ruined when the second ring blew out and dumped the crankcase in short order. We have a few Jiffy clones out here in Australia lol!

    Hello Keith just like instructor Lewis said" take a sample of oil in paper in microwave few seconds if it sparks close your hood move on to the next car and order a new engine."
    Gracias

    I had one with the reluctor wheel on the the end of camshaft for cam sensor come loose. Replaced intake cam to fix it. It was throwing one code for intake cam not both.

    WOW!! Especially with such low mileage.

    I think all modern engines sound the same! Clicky, ticky, and rattley - sounds normal from here. 😁
    Another great example here. Thanks for what you do, Keith! 😎

    P0016 /P0017 + 2.4GM = timing chain job, no scope required xD

      @richardc6038 6 лет назад

      yes and the cost is $800 - $2,000 job

      Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics yes, they also eat up that top timing chain guide, then metal debris gets in those VCT solenoids screens.
      See these misdiagnosed all the time no doubt.
      Good video Kieth.

    the scope is the easy part. finding the info like known goods is sometimes hard.

    • @timowallin8020
      @timowallin8020 6 лет назад

      yeah scope is as cood as the user. did the user take out the solenoids power before the screen shot ? or did he/she levea it in use? + atleast here(EU) i haven hear of one that dos this all thoh i would like to get one for my dayly job.
      All i have is my own and as im not the owner of the job i cant get every car that i work for to go and get a pic for future...

      So known goods arw available on Iatn through membership, AutoNerdz, and most importantly from vehicles that we snag known good waveforms on. People always think it's the biggest hassle to grab a known good, its much more of a hassle when you don't have one. Network with great people in the industry, get out to training and it all falls together quickly.

    Another good reason to do your own oil changes.

    it sounds sick, even via the not perfect camera audio. no scope needed for me on that one ;)

    You almost don't even need to open the hood on those things. Just start it and listen to it.

    i just did this about 4 months ago for my girl and she let the oil get low and now she got the p0016 and 17 codes and i just took it apart and i do not see anything out of time. the crank is at 12 o clock and the cams are 10 and 2 o clock so i;m not sure what to do. i changed the crank sensor the other day and the code returned, do you have any ideas?

    Same code on a 09 Pontiac vibe 2.4L.. I have replaced the cam sens, the crank sens and the vvt actuator. In between all these fixes the code kept popping up after a mile or two (engine, VSC, and traction lights) also would come on.. Tested actuator and it responds, 20 vacuum at idle, quick pump on the peddle it drops to 10 then pops back up to 20 and all cyclinders are 180psi, so in my mind should be pretty damn close to time...out of ideas on what to look at next..great vid by the way..

    nice video..I have a 09 pontiac vibe with just p0016, I have changed the oil, replaced the cranks sensor(checked it) and replaced the cam sensor (AC checked it) and replaced actuator. Verified that the car was mechanically timed right and this code keeps coming up. Drive it after unplugging battery or resetting with scanner but keep coming back after a restart. Drives fine etc, starting to hate this little engine..and not sure where to look next..

    All caused by a bloody O ring! Hopefully not an Eric O ring! Stupid jokes aside, did they let it dump all of the oil onto the ground? I'm guessing the Mechanic is going to wear the cost now or will they stick it to the vehicle owner?!

    • @ericcorse

      Yes I have but still no excuse for that. That said I worked with a guy that had then put gear oil in a crankcase or something like that.

    • @RobertHancock1
      @RobertHancock1 6 лет назад +1

      These have a cartridge-style oil filter that's underneath a screw-on cap with an O-ring on it to seal against the housing. Maybe the moron changing the oil mangled the O-ring somehow and didn't bother to replace it.

    My sister had to jump start the 2010 malibu and got the oil change when she got her new battery today. Shortly after that the service esc light came on. What do you think? Also they tried telling her she needed a new air filter and we checked it after she decided not to have them do it then. It was really bad at all.
