By no means do you have to support but Mrs. Gibson and I really appreciate the support as it goes a long way since most of these videos are copyrighted or blacklisted by YT. Lots of time goes into recording, editing, researching, and providing encouraging words throughout each reaction/review so this is an OPTION for those that are able to do so. DO NOT if finances are tight and priorities need to be taken care of first.

The point of the video and song... The man was trapped in unending isolation and loneliness. He could not see, hear, talk, no arms or legs. There was no hope of recovery to any sense of better than he was. He was fed through a tube, hooked to machines that helped keep him alive, as his body wasn't able to really do so without them.
He was alone with only his thoughts, unable to even know if he was awake or dreaming. He couldn't hear or see anyone or even talk to them. He was doomed to only know the outside world was there, when the nurse came in and touched him when she was there tend to the machines. Which only makes the isolation and loneliness feel worse. No books, tv, radio, simple conversation with other people, just what thoughts ran through his mind...
It is a state of being that will literally drive a person insane. Just being isolated in a small room, while perfectly healthy, will drive people insane.
It is a horrible existence, basically a personal hell, worse than death... Endless suffering.
At the end of the video, the scene was to show the rest of the world moving on, celebrating a holiday or some other thing, as the man lay alone trapped in his continuing hell.
The crowd were singing the traditional song "keep the home fires burning" for the soldiers at war and the missing.
@@ajayjust2626 I honestly never really listened to the words of that song, or at least let them register in my brain. I should have picked up on that, as it familiar. Been years of listening to the song, but not often am I listening to the video.
Incredibly well thought out dissertation. Thank you for putting that in writing.
Dont bother lol
lmao no it’s not did you listen at all, it’s about a man blown up from a landmine in world war 1 his limbs are blown off and the medics are helping him
Bruh, you're not "pushing through" if you have no arms, hands, feet, legs, eyes, ability to speak ... That isn't living.
Sabbat Represent.
Watch the movie or read the book, experience is unreal, scary. Johny got his gun. Movie was enough for me.
I think you missed this as he said in the song. “Landmine to my sight, arms, legs, speach, soul, and hearing.” Not in the order as he said it but still all six he said. With loosing all that there is no reason to live you can come back to normal living from all that.
Its not living. Its surviving.
@@xxshatteredmetalxx it's really just as simple as existing at that point
No, they didn't kill your man... unfortunately. He's not coming back, he's short one complete face (the tent and the stitches that were pulled) and part of his brain ("decerebrated individual"), limbs, hearing, anything that would let him even know there's an outside world except the sensation of the skin on his chest. That's according to the book, "Johnny got his gun".
The nurse tried to end his personal hell, and was caught.
So they shoved him in a dark locked room and beyond basic care, forgot about him. He is the only One in the universe of his own mind.
It's absolutely terrifying.
Metallica has so many good ones to choose from, didn't see anyone mention "Harvester of Sorrow".
Never see anyone mention the thing that should not be either.
@@rayvasquez5467 someone *always* mentions the thing that shood shud shuuujkdfe kfj fjklsjk IA! IA! C'THULU FHTAGN!!!
I swear you guys are just trying to shake this mans positivity lol jk
@@rayvasquez5467 thing that should not be is incredible
Cuz Jason wrote it, lol
Worse than dying, he was put away & forgotten...In this case, death is a mercy denied him...
Okay. This song is based on a book titled Johnny got his Gun. Johnny was the guy in the hospital. He was so far gone that he was only being kept alive by machines. The doctors were keeping him alive to learn about what the hell happened to him. But he was beyond saving. He was supposed to die but they kept him alive as a science experiment. Him moving his head was Morse code for kill me. And he didn’t even know if anyone would see it. He was ready to die because he was stuck in limbo. He didn’t know if he was dead or alive, but he knew that something was wrong and it was literal hell and he wanted out.
This movie scenes are from “Johnny got his gun” which was about a soldier in world war 1 who was blown up by a land mine. This was Metallica’s first music video and basically introduced the mainstream to head banging. I remember being a kid and seeing this video in MTV for the first time!
funny story, metallica wanted to use this movie in their music video but didnt want to have to pay royalties for it so they just bought the rights to the whole movie. They were only in their mid 20s at the time.
@chris gonzalez never seen the movie so i didnt know that haha. Atleast he got to enjoy something before he died lmao
@chris gonzalez If you think the movie is disturbing, try reading the book. The imagery in it is more than enough to disabuse anyone of the notion that war is glamorous. The book lays out the horrors of those that survive their wounds long enough to see a hospital.
glad i saw this, i could not remember the movie for any thing.
Omg ty so much I've been trying to get the name of the movie for years.
Jason newstead was the bassist at this time, Robert Trujillo joined in 2003
YEah, Jason was there...but not the bass....
@@XMorbidReignX you can hear the bass, if you have the ear for it, you don't need a loud bass guitar to have a master piece of a song
@@jadenwalker2052 actually, the bass parts were not recorded in the final mix of the album (...and Justice for All)
@@greenwaffle_hov yes they were...
"For democracy, any man would give his only begotten son."
"'Democracy' is two wolves, and one sheep...arguing over what's for dinner."

Disposable Heroes,Damage Inc.,Dyers Eve
Hell yea my brother. Been listening to Metallica for over 35 years. Welcome to the metal side. Dig your shit, keep it up.
The video shows clips from a movie called "Johnny got his gun". Basically a soldier gets severely injured in World War 1 and is praying for death. He doesn't want to live anymore because he's lost his arms, his legs, his sight, his ears, his nose and his ability to speak. He's trapped in his own mind with nothing but his thoughts. He's basically a prisoner in his own body.
IMO one of the greatest solo's ever and an absolute Metal/Hard Rock classic!
Lyrics
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Now the world is gone, I'm just one
Oh God help me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, help me
Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell.
Story: A young American soldier serving in World War I, awakens in a hospital bed after being caught in the blast of an exploding artillery shell. He gradually realizes that he has lost his arms, legs, and all of his face (including his eyes, ears, teeth, and tongue), but that his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body. Based off a book "Johnny got his gun" and later into a movie.
Here's the thing, the poor guy has had his face, ears, arms and legs all blown off. The doctor believed he was "brain dead". He was mistaken.
The scenes and audio from the movie aren't in the album version of the song.
The movie can be found here: Johnny Got His Gun - ruclips.net/video/uUfBVLAY_pU/видео.html
As others have pointed out it's about a man being kept alive against his will.
Also the reason why Cliff Button is no longer in the band is he died when their tour bus crashed. Metallica like Iron Maiden,Anthrax, Slayer,Megadeath are some of the old guard of metal who've been around since the 80's.
Loving your video's btw reactions/thoughts are great.
Already threw the thumbs up before it starts. This is one of the best songs of all time
But what if he had hated it?
Definitely have to hear Master Of Puppets from them. It's one of the most iconic songs in metal
There is a reason why Metallica is an iconic band. It would be interesting if you 1st reacted to the studio version then the live performance. I dont think anyone is reacting this way.
Sometimes the live is even better than the studio version because, the energy in a live version is way better.
@@underinfluence9001I hate the crowd fucking up my instruments tho. I can sometimes not even hear the bass line. 😭
Another one who's live performances are as good as or better than the studio version. Check out "Disposable Heroes" live in Mexico City or "Creeping Death " live from Moscow!!!
Whiplash San Diego
He is Kirk Hammett bro he is awesome. You must check Unforgiven III’s guitar solo.
React to King Nothing by Metallica...... it's a good one to dedicate to your haters. 😉😂
Heather Nicole "so what" from garage days would be better, lol...
That song is an introspective about James and his alcoholism lol
I remember when this video first came out.. Metallica had never made a video for MTv prior to this video. It was a point of pride to the hardcore Metallica fans back then that they had resisted 'selling out' to the corporate machine by making a video. When this video dropped they got a ton of hate from the hardcore fans at the time.. but in the end attracted like 10x or more new fans. Personally.. I thought it was cool to have Metallica on MTv at the time.. it was like "Yeah, you punk-ass sissies.. this is what WE listen to! In your face!"
Peace
I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve heard a reactor say he would still rather live, even without arms, legs, sight, hearing, speech, fed through a tube, and kept breathing by a machine
You've just hit a milestone in your own musical evolution, rejoice.
Spit Out the Bone by Metallica. You wont regret it... Just be hydrated before you listen 😂
Can't recommend this song enough
Good good
Its based on a 1938 anti war novel called Johnny got his gun, its about a soldier that has his arms and legs blown off by a landmine, and loses his sight, speech, and hearing so is basically just trapped inside of his body but cant communicate to let the doctors know he wants to die.
Creeping Death- Live in Moscow
Disposable Heroes- Live in Mexico City
Spit Out The Bone
Master Of Puppets (live seattle 1989) or they have a recent one where they play while its raining :D
Christopher Gomes master of puppets live in Manchester
Man at the end they were toasting New Year's and he was all alone while everybody was having a little party
Do metallica fade to black arguably there best song🤘
yeah my personal fav due to my life situation but yeah if i speak for the majority one is the best
One is their best song to me
P.S. start at Metallica's first album....listen to it ALL the way through, then you'll get a better sense of their music!! 🤘
Jeremiah Story cliffs bass solo on the kill em all album was a thing of beauty. RIP cliff Burton
I'm a big metallica fan this is one of my favos but welcome home sanatarium is also awesome
Master of puppets , from whom the bells toll
+++
This is ONE of their best you should also listen to Enter Sandman. The guy playing the solo is Kirk Hammett.
Yes! This is when MTV played music. I remember this video being on all the time. My dad, a Vietnam vet, went out and bought this cassette (yes cassette haha - 80s kid all the way) because this video resonated with him. He ended up having brain surgery because of that war and all the side effects it caused him with Agent Orange etc. so when I see this video, I think of him. RIP dad!
One is definitely one of their most iconic songs!
I like how positive you are. Any negative lyrics you notice you always say something positive back. I dig it.
metallica_master of puppets...metallica_hard wire...metallica the day that never comes...dragon force _through the fire and flames
These guys are metal giants! Even the bass drum speaks more than most songs. The lyrics are so deep The guitars and drums perfect!
Metallica based this song off of a book called “Johnny Got His Gun”. It is a about a Man who is deaf, has no arms, no legs, and is in a coma. He can not move and can not speak but is awake, is aware of what’s going on around him, and can feel everything happening to him. The book is let alone by itself phenomenal!! It changed the way I look at war and how I look at this world! The book is so good!!!
As they say in the song, my passed away daughter would never feel anything in life, never walk, never speek, never cry, never laught, never feel if shes alive or not herself... Where or when she could be in life, always connected on those machines and those medecines until your last breath... I miss you maggie lebrun-lefebvre ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ....hope your wings feel good on your back now, in peace! 🕊️🕊️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
DAMNNNN!! Great reaction video!!! 👏👏 your reaction was the best I've seen so far! Great video!! 💯💯
This is one of the best metal songs ever........I've been listening to this song since I was a teenager, and I still have goosebumps so far. What a song mate !!!
Love your innocence and reaction! Much love🤘💜🔥🤘🔥💜
Bulls on parade- Rage against the machine it’s fire 🔥
you just keep reacting to my favorite song D-Gibby and I love it hahaha!!!!! fire from the gods - excuse me, now im going to keep pushing this song on you. keep up the good work bro thumbs way up
This is probably the most positive attitude I've seen towards this song and video.
Bruh holy shit that “Hellen Keller mode” made me laugh so fucking hard
This is a banger Bro 🤘 💯 they rock #GibbyGang
POWERFUL song, meaning....TONS of emotion one of the best of all time IMO.
Man I'm truly inspired by your optimism and positivity, I need to be more like you, seriously.
The stuff at the end is only in the music video. Most if not all of the footage throughout the video is from the movie "Johnny Got His Gun". Dude get's blown up, loses his arms and legs, as well as his eyes, nose, mouth and ears, and can't talk, but is fully aware of what is happening. The song is inspired by that film.
Disposable heroes by Metallica, best song yet besides this one
Gibby getting on the metal scene huh? Im here for it brother! Keep it up!
The song is based off a book/movie called Johnny got his gun (clips in music video.) It's about a soldier who was completely damaged by the war he fought in, taking his arms, legs, sight, and even voice.
BEST METALLICA SONG EVER, SO MUCH EMOTION AND POWER BEHIND THE LYRICS/SOUND
The song was wrote about a really old movie called, Johnny's Got A Gun. That's where the clips come from.
There was a book that inspired the movie these clips are from called Johnny got his gun. About a soldier that goes off to fight in world war 1. He steps on a landmine and loses his arms, legs, face, sight, hearing, voice. Hes trapped in his own body but he still feels pain. He's kept alive by machines. He doesnt know if hes dreaming, awake. He wants to die to end all the pain. He's in his own personal hell but they wont let him die. Imagine that quality of life and ask yourself if you would want to live like that or die.
its about a book that was written i believe during ww2 about a ww1 soldier who got hit by a mortar, the book was about anti war and was black listed for a long time and wasn't allowed to be sold, the books called "Johnny got his gun", really confusing read but its a good book
You are the most expressive reactor I've seen so far. Love it.
metallica is my favorite band :) soooo
james hetfield: is the rhythm guitarist & lead singer
kirk hammett: is the lead guitarist
lars ulrich: is the drummer
And in this video Jason Newsted was their bassist at this time, Jason left the band in 2001 but now their bassist is Robert Trujillo since 2003
Metallica - To live is to die
Metallica - Bleeding me
Metallica - Trapped under ice
Metallica - No remorse
Metallica - Seek and Destroy
Real speak Gibby. No legs No arms No voice No hearing No sight. Nothing but pain. No point to live in misery
"right side of the grass".... that was gold
This is a song about the story of a man that was blown up in war. Lost his arms, legs and ability to communicate i.e. eyes, hearing and voice. It's from a movie called "Johnny got his Gun" I believe
LoL, fun review man. It's always refreshing to see someone react to music I've been exposed to all my life. Keep it up!!
U should listening to orion... a fkn masterpiece.... grüsse aus good old germany
YES YES YES!!!!!! THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!!!! Thank you for this
Metallica for life 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻...try spit out the bone, Fade to black....
One of the greatest songs with one of the greatest reactors. Nothin but love.
FACTS!!! Appreciate you family
@@DevinGibson And we all appreciate you bro
Good place to start your journey with Metallica is "Whiplash" or "The Four Horsemen" from their 1983 Debut album
The Four Horsemen ++++ do itt :)))
Where ever they may roam is banger🔥🔥🔥
This song is also based on a book called Johnny Got His Gun that was about a guy who went to war and basically lost everything.
The song and video is based on the novel “Johnny got his gun” that was later turned into a movie. The scenes from the movie are depicted in the music video.
The public don't understand what its like to come home from war.....weather you are whole or not. 22 a day make it back and end their own struggles. It's something beyond the reach of those who have not been there. 31 years of my life were in the Army and the last 10 were attending funerals that I never should have had to endure. Bless you brothers who see my comment and remember how hard you fought to get home.....you did it for a reason
This song is a Banger for the first few times you listen it... But, after, you'll listen to this video/movie and absorb the sadness and the emotion of this. And then, you listen to the film with music in background. They're the time you'll understand the complexity of this production .. and emotions take all the place 🌹 Tx for the react, you're the best 👌
LOVE YOUR JERSEY! RISE UP!!!
I love metallic This one of my favorite songs
Please keep the 🐐 Metallica reactions coming... 🤩🤘🎸 I'd recommend these Metallica songs, Fade to black, Enter Sandman, Master of puppets, Welcome home sanitarium, The Unforgiven,l Nothing else matters, Wherever I may roam... 🤘🎸🔥
This was metalica's first video, for their underground fans it was for them evidence that the band sold out, that's why some hate this song.. But in all fairness its a great song they gave it everything they had.
Not sure is it was mentioned earlier, but this song was written about a movie called Johnny Got His Gun. Basically blown apart, and as Johnny put it, "my face was scooped out" limbs gone and should have died. The Army wanted to keep him alive and do experiments on him since they thought he was brain dead. The movie is in black & white and the color parts is when he is remembering the past or dreaming. Tried to use morse code to communicate with them that his brain was still functioning. Movie ended with the nurse removed and them keeping him in that state. Depressing, but good movie.
Finally got my T shirt being sent!!!
the show on the video is from an old film "Johnny got his gun" and this song was used too recently for the promotion of Marvel- The Punisher
Song is about a man that got badly injuried in war....and the background is from a movie back in the 50's about the same thing, the man can move, walk, talk, etc.....
DUDE!!! I am loving your videos man! Good job!
New sub here, you have the best reactions and energy I’ve seen in a min, stay metal strong! 💪🏼
The most Savage Metallica song... This is magical, dGibby!!! Good choice!
FYI they bought the exclusive rights to the movie you see here just to feature it in the video. Movie is called "Johnny got his gun" made back in 1971.
In the end, he isn't dead but he's trapped in his body to go insane with his own conciousness. He survived but sadly him living in his own mind slowly rotting away is an injustice when he wants to die and be relieved from the suffering of being concious in a dead body. He is clearly concious asking for help when tapping SOS but they ignore it and just let him rot.
Yo check out "King Nothing or My Friend of Misery" by Metallica you won't regret it 💯 🤘 #GibbyGang
My friend of misery
King Nothing
Anybody realize that Gibby acts the same way in every single metal reacts video? @Alex Hefner will be the only “Hip-hop head” to ever react to metal the right way.
