For those who want the art style to be dark and gritty, the Pillar's games have always had a very colorful artstyle. What is dark and gritty is the story and themes themselves. The environments are pretty, but the world is dark and cruel. Some of the very first quests in Pillar's 1 shows this off all too well.
You seem to be missing the larger issue in that what the initial trailer alluded to was not the case once we saw actual in-game footage. If your game isn't going to be Dark fantasy style in terms of color scheme, then don't show me a dark and gritty trailer that implies your game is going to be Dark Fantasy. Show me what the game is going to look like, and if your game is going to have more darker THEMES, showcase it in the trailer so people know. Not doing this just gives people a certain impression of what the game will be, and thereby will eventually feel mislead or that something happened when what you show later on doesn't match your initial teaser.
While I agree with you (I'm replaying Deadfire ATM), most of us disregard it as technical limitation because of the somewhat low rez of their cRPG engine. What I REMEMBER from PoE1 is a very grown and grey game, with green and purple lightning because of the animancy machinery and "energy". Dark and gritty doesn't mean black and white. Pillars had colours yes, but it never had extreme over saturation, this is only pillars game where it is like that. And it doesn't look good.

The hit stop on melee attacks is such a simple yet good implementation to make combat feel meaty, skyrim lacked this so you always felt like you were hitting air with an impact sound effect.

I don't think Microsoft understands two things. 1) $70us dollar games don't sell if they aren't absolutely worth it and packed with content. Bungie's Halo could do it, COD could easily do it, because they have a high production single player campaign AND tons of multiplayer features. GTA can do it (and sell for even more), because it's the most insane open world franchise in terms of player freedom, production value, endless gameplay etc. But most games deserve to be in the $40-50us dollar range, maybe even lower. They would sell like hot cakes there. If Avowed was $30us dollars, I would buy it (assuming it didn't give me a personal reason to boycott it). Which brings me to the next point... Corporations don't understand that players want fun experiences, great level designs and quality writing. What players don't care for, is your ability to add to your E.S.G score or prioritizing silly political agendas. The reason Xbox hasn't been doing good for two generations is because it feels like their games are made for executives on wall street, not players. Whether that's bad marketing, games designed for "everybody/nobody" or taking away content and then charging a premium through microtransactions and DLC to get it back, while still charging the same or higher base rates for the game itself.
tbf activision started the whole "remove already made content to charge more for it later", and unfortunately it worked perfectly, so other companies followed suit. It's the same issue in terms of WoW charging absurd amounts of money for mounts, but they continue to do it because a single Mount will essentially make more money for them than all of SC2 did. Until gamers start putting their money where their mouth is as a combined effort, rather than complaining but still buying (whether because they decide they like it or FOMO) it will unfortunately never change. We might get some Diamonds in the rough like Larian, but the other companies being complained about won't start to adapt Larian's style of approach, or at least change their current awful ways to something better, until they lose money because they didn't.

Avowed doesn’t need to have a smash hit release though, it just needs to promoted and continue to garner downloads through gamepass for years, which I think it will
So I still hold on hope for a pillars of eternity 3 not that that's ever going to happen because I'm pretty sure obsidian is no longer going to make isometric games anymore. Which sends me but I understand that they can't just make a game just for me.
The world and storytelling style of the PoE games is probably my favorite gaming experience in the last 10 years. I've played PoE so many times and I really hope Avowed drops when during my paternity leave next year
There are so many fun looking projects coming out that look like devs are putting love and care into them Pricing aside, like in Space Marine 2's case, there games are looking fanastic.
My initial impression when watching the trailer was that the facial animations were really low quality. I also noticed a lot of hitching due to the player's body colliding with the environment more often than it should.
I dont want to be judgmental but after Wukong BM, Cyberpunk, elden ring etc Its tough to look at this and be like, yeah thats pretty good, I just cant get excited
If graphics are all that excites you, especially with how repetitive all those souls games are, this probably isn't the game for you. It's an actual RPG
@@Deebosamuel19If you consider Avowed an actual RPG you should also consider Cyberpunk an actual RPG, just with far better graphics. Avowed is not going to be Pillars of Eternity 1 or 2 but with a 1st person perspective. Forget about it. Skill trees and abilities have been already shown on previews and let me tell you it's not going to be a deep system like in the aforementioned Pillars games, BG3 or Pathfinder. It's not even close. Is that bad? Not at all, it could be a great and fun game, but don't go the RPG purist route and try to underrate other games like the ones that the comment mentioned, because Avowed it's gonna be lacking in that department.
Im surprised it took this long for gameplay with the UI to be published. The art is nice, but these are the details that get me most excited for Avowed as an RPG
I have been looking forward to this game since its announcement and the art style change didn't affect that. I don't mind they dropped the dark/gritty/cool artstyle as long as the new cartoonier one isn't outright ugly or unappealing like other recent games (concord, suicide squad) I am good. Obsidian games aren't about that anyways.
Hmmm interesting that you had that heavy urge to comment this. Almost like if xbox dudes really were going crazy for no reason, you'd have no reason to type this out and desire some traffic.
The game is signature obsidian if you ask me - the art style has The Outer Worlds- esque underlines. Looks super colorful. I don't like souls like art style (personal choice). I really like what I see and would love to play the game. If the gameplay is anything like the outer worlds, I can wait to play it.
They still very much have a 3rd person option. They were showing off 1st person perspective again becuase they wanted to show off the improved first person combat that many were concerned about (not feeling very impactful)
I don't need this game to shake up the entire gaming world, I just want a decent ass Skyrim-ish game again that has the faction interactions and reputation DNA of Fallout New Vegas. If it has that, I'll be happy. As for the combat... looks like an alright upgrade from Skyrim's floaty combat (which isn't saying much given Skyrim is ancient at this point), The animations are nothing mindblowing but I appreciate how they tried to inject a little oomph and tactile-ness there with those impacts when you connect melee attacks. Also there's a dodge so... ok cool. Decent all around tbh. If it has great companions, writing and story, could become something I play and probably mod for 500 hours or something.
I will never understand your change in tone comment. How exactly does the daytime and vibrant colors mean the tone of the game will be less dark and gritty? I think you and those who share your perspective are hung up on the time of day each trailer is set. I just rewatched the reveal trailer, then the first gameplay trailer. I feel the goal of the second trailer is to mislead us into thinking the world is super colorful and inviting. It’s deceptive purposefully so and it seems to be working. I saw some clear dark and/or gritty aspects of the game in the second trailer. But truthfully we all will not know until we all play it from start to finish.
This looks like a $30-40 at best. Not necessarily bad, but if they charge AAA prices it's going to hit them where it hurts. Especially after Outer Worlds (which while wasn't bad, lacked a lot of replay-ability), that also felt like a $30-40 title that cost $60 on launch.
I assume it's The Outer Worlds but D&D, if they can make a interesting smaller game it's worth a look (on PC). I hope they can expand on the systems from The Outer Worlds, still that game had a hook.
This news changed my mind on this game. I was quite underwhelmed by The Outer Worlds. They have 6 months to continue polishing the experience and hopefully find that necessary 60 FPS performance mode. Looking forward to 2025.
I'm hyped. This is first attempt to detronie skyrim. There are not many games that are open big world fantasy rpg in fpp. I hope for some cool features with crafting or economy related. Some base building or base defense mechanics could go a long way for endgame, maybe I'm hoping for too much but I think integrating different genres in to 1 game is future. At least it's not made on bugthesda engine and that's a good start :D
Probably true and so sad. Why can’t Microsoft release a higher end console for people who can afford to upgrade. I dont have the space to play on my PC and console gaming is so convenient I’d throw down 800-1000 on an upgraded console all day.
This looks to be one of the most Game Pass-ass games to hit Game Pass. Destin's monotone audible is a perfectly in sync with the amount of excitement this game is giving off. Fan of Obsidian, but definitely a wait & see.
I actually am waiting to play this game. I enjoyed the s*it out of Outer Worlds, still hyping the sequel, and I'm looking forward to play Avowed, looks fun enough.
That combat straight up looks like Elder Scrolls Blades lol. I really liked New Vegas and Outer Worlds but I'm tempering my expectations for this game now.
it’s just a fantasy version of outer worlds. if you liked that you’ll probably like this. early poe had some pretty dark themes, i’m kinda over obsidians marvel humor and surface level themes. i would’ve liked something a bit more mature, grittier and interesting. so i’m out on this game but i’m sure some ppl will enjoy it. also 30fps on console with these graphics is ridiculous, they gotta figure it out.

@@noamias4897 I’ll play it for sure. I have gamepass but I’m just sayin if I had to choose lol
They improved a lot since the last impressions video. Looking forward to it. I loved the pillars games and tyranny, this one looks like a lot of fun.
Some games are putting fun before other things and im all for that.
I've played PoE so many times and I really hope Avowed drops when during my paternity leave next year
For an Obsidian game, I'm seeing very little roleplaying here
Loving all the uploads Luke 🤙
There are so many fun looking projects coming out that look like devs are putting love and care into them
Pricing aside, like in Space Marine 2's case, there games are looking fanastic.
“Its looking great” IGN
I’ve deeply enjoyed so many “ok” games; statistically most games won’t be masterpieces - why deny yourself good fun in pursuit of perfection?
...do barbarians normally stalk through the shadows preparing for attack???
there are no "classes" in the game. just skills of your choosing, you can shoot fireballs and use bows.
Obsidian doing this has a similar feeling to Ubisoft Quebec going from ac odyssey to fenyx rising. To me at least.
@@tallboyxander Obsidian made The Outer Worlds before this. This is hardly new territory for them.
My main takeaway was: it’s still RTWP and we have access to several POE spells at once during combat
My initial impression when watching the trailer was that the facial animations were really low quality. I also noticed a lot of hitching due to the player's body colliding with the environment more often than it should.
I dont want to be judgmental but after Wukong BM, Cyberpunk, elden ring etc Its tough to look at this and be like, yeah thats pretty good, I just cant get excited
well that's not what this game is supposed to be, i look at it as a way to fill the time between great games that i'm waiting for
Your gonna be missing out on alot of great games then bud 👍
Bro graphics is not all in games ..
You know luke usually you’re lil quips and jokes make me chuckle but the “flicking wands” got me pretty fucking good ggs 😂
I’m excited for this!
The 10 people with an xbox seem pretty happy
Stop pretending like PC isn't bigger than xbox/PS5 put together 😂
😂😂 30 fps😂😂😂 xbot trash
I'm very happy that the art direction is similar to Dead Fire instead of chasing the gritty dark fad.
Im pretty stoked for this game
I'll wait for Luke's review.
Looks amazing 😍
Im surprised it took this long for gameplay with the UI to be published. The art is nice, but these are the details that get me most excited for Avowed as an RPG
My god this is by far the most exciting compelling preview for any upcoming game besides dokev, invinity nikki and doom dark ages.
Wtf😂😂😂😂
Looking forward to playing it on my PlayStation.
Looks like a x360 game graphically
I’m down for it! Looks like a fun light RPG with stuff to kill in magical silly ways
I'm excited for this game.
The bots are going crazy for no reason
Hmmm interesting that you had that heavy urge to comment this. Almost like if xbox dudes really were going crazy for no reason, you'd have no reason to type this out and desire some traffic.
"Nice to see some female gamer representation in the comments"
The game is signature obsidian if you ask me - the art style has The Outer Worlds- esque underlines. Looks super colorful. I don't like souls like art style (personal choice). I really like what I see and would love to play the game. If the gameplay is anything like the outer worlds, I can wait to play it.
Any finishers in this game?
i need to relax, i have way too much hype, is gonna be good, is gonna be good...
Avowed is meant to have a 3rd person mode... have they removed it now, or are they still developing it?
They still very much have a 3rd person option. They were showing off 1st person perspective again becuase they wanted to show off the improved first person combat that many were concerned about (not feeling very impactful)
@@Mmachine88 Thanks. That's good news then. Hopefully they show some of that 3rd person combat soon. All they showed before was 3rd person in camp.
I don’t think it’s going to be any different. It’s going to be like Skyrim’s 3rd person combat.
Thing is, I DONT RESPECT IGNS OPINIONS
I'm very excited because it reminded me of Might and Magic Dark Messiah. Combat looks fun.
The guy whom got upset over the virgin joke is in fact, a virgin.
Its not upset, its understandable concern for the potential of low hanging fruit, as the supposed humour of the game
@@sibusiso2841It's funny in a meta way given there are no romances in the game (there could still be sex though).
“Gold skinned creature” they got on someone that doesn’t know pillars to play the demo 💀
Is it just me or did Kai make a machine gun sound like a rapper when he did shot the monster? "bRRR-AT"
I don't need this game to shake up the entire gaming world, I just want a decent ass Skyrim-ish game again that has the faction interactions and reputation DNA of Fallout New Vegas.
First person games absolutely needs 60fps
Pillars of Eternity 1 anf 2 had the same colour palette and were pretty dark and grim in a lot of instances in the game.
Game looks cool! The arm movements look weird in some of those are attacks
I assume it's The Outer Worlds but D&D, if they can make a interesting smaller game it's worth a look (on PC).
I hope they can expand on the systems from The Outer Worlds, still that game had a hook.
This looks like first person dragon age inquisition.
I loved the outer worlds. It was one of the only RPGs that I actually liked. This is looking good to me!
Destin one of the few IGN people who is reasonable with his scores.
I have no complaints. I'm getting an Obsidian fantasy game and Monster Hunter Wilds. Life is good
This news changed my mind on this game. I was quite underwhelmed by The Outer Worlds. They have 6 months to continue polishing the experience and hopefully find that necessary 60 FPS performance mode. Looking forward to 2025.
Nice to see some female gamer representation in the comments
In the same way that the outer worlds is kinda fallout at home, this game looks like Skyrim at home. I definitely think it looks solid though
I'm looking forward to it i like obsidians games and i thought it looked pretty good.
This makes me wonder if maybe avowed wasn’t originally part of the pillars universe
why does it look like theres very very very few enemies in most of the video?
This game looks amazing
The FoV seems really narrow. Guess that's standard for console, just looks a bit odd for it.
Itll be more than likely adjustable. It usually is.
I have high hopes in obsidian.
I believe this will be game of the Year contender in 2025
Don't worry, the 60FPS patch for the game is going to come alongside the announcement of a PS5 version
has another game done that?
Probably true and so sad. Why can’t Microsoft release a higher end console for people who can afford to upgrade. I dont have the space to play on my PC and console gaming is so convenient I’d throw down 800-1000 on an upgraded console all day.
It’s looks like too much is going on even when hardly anything is going on 😂
What? I think it looks a little to empty. Not enough shit happening
This looks to be one of the most Game Pass-ass games to hit Game Pass. Destin's monotone audible is a perfectly in sync with the amount of excitement this game is giving off. Fan of Obsidian, but definitely a wait & see.
I was excited for this but after watching the new gameplay it looks horrendously bad 😂
Hopefully Obsidian will have colour filters in game or someone will make a Reshade as it's the only gripe I have with the Game.
Expecting western devs to not write cringy marvel dialogue challenge impossible lol
I'm just hoping they're going apeshit with the alien wildlife. So far The Living Lands setting looks too similar with Deadfire.
It's not a deal breaker for me but I just hope it has a 3rd person view like Skyrim..other than that, I'm still playing it
seems solid and i will get toasted and play it
i cant wait to play this game
I wish I was Luke younger brother. Unfortunately I'm older than him. There goes my wish 😂
