Fifty years old and still sounds as fresh as it did back then. The crescendo at the end is fantastic. Writing songs like this seems to be a lost art. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70's!
Andy Kim wrote Sugar Sugar for The Archies with his friend. Love "Rock Me Gently" as well! Loved your reaction when you realized this was the song you remembered!
Love Andy Kim! He released a couple of terrific albums under the pseudonym Baron Longfellow. Solid songwriter with a Neil Diamond-like voice. A Canadian treasure!
@davidschecter5247 , you pegged it right. With his voice and his hair, I was thinking that Andy Kim is the Canadian Neil Diamond. I was a young kid when this came out.
From 1974, Andy hadn't had a hit for a few years, so he released this record on his own after leaving the record company. He could only afford 1 record so he did an instrumental of the same song for Side B. It made it to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100's and also in Canada. Groovy tune from a great Canadian. 🇨🇦 Great choice and reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Andy Kim, is a Canadian pop rock singer & songwriter from the 60's-70's. He had a few hits such as "Baby, I Love You", "How'd We Ever Get This Way?", "Rainbow Ride", "Be My Baby" & "It's Your Life". He also co-wrote with Jeff Barry, "Sugar, Sugar" which was a hit single for the "Archies". Kim & Barry wrote more songs for the "Archies" & also for the "Monkees'" album Changes in 1970.
Nothing transports through time in your mind like music. So great when you rediscover a near forgotten song and find out it was even better than you remember. Very nice. This a great song indeed.
I probably haven't heard this for 50 years! He has Neil Diamond medallion man vibes, though his voice is more Lou Reed, but the music is like Rose Royce.
This is one of my favorites from the 70's! When I was listening to it back then I always thought it was Neil Diamond. I eventually found out it was actually Andy Kim. Great memories though.
Isn’t it great to rediscover a long lost favorite? I was 12 when this was out and loved this song. Chevy Van was another one of my favorites from this time period!!
One of my fondest memories, was heading out on a school trip, and when we were all on the bus, this song came on the radio, and our whole bus sang along. Totally awesome!
Loved seeing the pure joy on your face when you realized it was the one. My older sister played this record over and over. She passed away but whenever I hear this song I immediately think of her. Thanks for reacting to it, Harri!
I love this song! Was in a restaurant recently in the restroom, getting ready to walk out of the stall. All of a sudden. This song comes on and there I stand with the door locked dancing my butt off lol such a great song.
I remember this on the radio when I was little, it came out before I was born a year or so but they would still get radio requests for it so that I remember hearing it.
AM Radio staple of the 70’s airwaves ❤️ and when you sing “Rock me gently “ “Rock me slowly” Andy Kim is really a naughty Boy 🤗 he’s really never been loved like that before……. 🤭
Wow!! I remember this I was just transported being a kid kid like about 5 in the backseat of my parents car I never would have thought of this Thank you so much Harri your infectious joy of remembering it made mine even better Love and Music forever 🎵💜🎶🎉💜🎵
Loved this song as a kid, still love the song, I get just excited as you do when I hear it. Just doesn't sound the same without the pops and scratches from the old 45.
Oh how I love this song! Haven’t heard it in over 45 years and it’s such a happy song! Wish it was played on Sirius 70’s on 7…if it has, I haven’t heard it yet. It brings back wonderful memories!
The great Michael Omartian on the clavinet solo. This dude played piano on steely Dan's classic albums most notably katy lied(whole album) and then produced Christopher Crosses debut album which won a ton of grammys including not surprisingly best producer and producing smash hits for Donna Summer among many others. A very underrated mega talent.
OMG! I just watched a reaction to the Archies' Sugar Sugar and I read in the comments that Andy Kim sang Rock Me Gently. I thought to myself, hmmmmm... that sounds familiar. I wonder... I ended up here to check out if my vague memory is correct, and sure enough it is this song, so I'm right there with you Harri !!!
I think you saw the Canadian version of We are the World called Tears are Not Enough by Northern Lights. If you look closely, at the cast, now that you know what he looks like you will see Andy Kim in the crowd.
Absolutely one on my play list of playing along with my drums it makes me feel good. Please consider listening and see if you remember Leon Haywood ' I wanna do something freaky to you ' it came out about the sometime as I was about 9 years old another feel good song but not able to get on CD due to some legal issues so I'm requesting you to do your great intelligent observation and opinion on this great work of ear candy melodies by Leon Haywood which many of the later rap artist sampled but never paid royalties.
Every once in a rare while, I hear one that I vaguely remember as well. It happened a lot more often before the advent of mp3s and file sharing, but I think I may have run out of those “surprises” by now. Fun innit Harri? 😊
Man - I love that song too and it really brings back childhood memories for me as well (born in ‘63). Better yet was your reaction. I could really appreciate and enjoyed your unbridled enthusiasm!
That is the definition of a classic pop song. I've always loved this tune. Harri, great to see you let loose with your groove. You need to do it more often, my friend. I love to see people enjoying great music. Us Canadians know how to write/make good music, eh. P.S. Harri, I had to laugh looking at your hashtag header for this song. I have a twisted sense of humour and like word play so where you obviously wrote this to be read as '70s hits' my eyes and mind also saw this as '70 shits'. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
This song is a timeless masterpiece. Love it
LOVE THIS SONG!! And Sugar Sugar!! ❤❤
One of the best songs ever
Fifty years old and still sounds as fresh as it did back then. The crescendo at the end is fantastic. Writing songs like this seems to be a lost art. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70's!
He co-wrote "Sugar, Sugar" in 1968 and sang lead on the recording as part of the cartoon group the Archies
@Thomas Timlin Thanks for that info because I was sitting here thinking why does this sort of sound like The Archies! 😂
Andy Kim took a page from the book of Neil Diamond.Even his look.
My thoughts exactly! If I didn't see otherwise, I would have been certain it was Neil Diamond.
I always thought the same.
Andy Kim wrote Sugar Sugar for The Archies with his friend. Love "Rock Me Gently" as well! Loved your reaction when you realized this was the song you remembered!
Watch the video with Andy Kim doing Sugar Sugar with Choir! Choir! Choir! Absolutely fantastic!
Like Sugar Sugar, there's not much to the song, really - just that both are VERY catchy!
Did not know that. The guy never got his full due. His hooks were awesome.
Love Andy Kim! He released a couple of terrific albums under the pseudonym Baron Longfellow. Solid songwriter with a Neil Diamond-like voice. A Canadian treasure!
Totally forgot about the Baron Longfellow stuff. The song Amour is just beautiful.
@davidschecter5247 , you pegged it right. With his voice and his hair, I was thinking that Andy Kim is the Canadian Neil Diamond. I was a young kid when this came out.
Pure joy! You're like a 7 year old boy again! Love it!
I love this song ♥️
From 1974, Andy hadn't had a hit for a few years, so he released this record on his own after leaving the record company. He could only afford 1 record so he did an instrumental of the same song for Side B. It made it to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100's and also in Canada. Groovy tune from a great Canadian. 🇨🇦 Great choice and reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
he was lead vocalist for the Archie’s with sugar sugar . He also recorded Baby I love you.
And he was AKA Baron Longfellow .
Forgot he was Canadian , cool !
I believe this poor young man never went further because he sounded so much like Neil Diamond. What talent!
Andy Kim, is a Canadian pop rock singer & songwriter from the 60's-70's. He had a few hits such as "Baby, I Love You", "How'd We Ever Get This Way?", "Rainbow Ride", "Be My Baby" & "It's Your Life". Nothing transports through time in your mind like music. So great when you rediscover a near forgotten song and find out it was even better than you remember. Very nice. This a great song indeed.
❤ I have loved this song forever! I was probably 16 when I first heard it! ❤❤❤❤
I probably haven't heard this for 50 years! He has Neil Diamond medallion man vibes, though his voice is more Lou Reed, but the music is like Rose Royce.
Summer of 74 it was blasting everywhere. As a kid of 13 it was the best of times. Perfect pop song.
This is one of my favorites from the 70's! When I was listening to it back then I always thought it was Neil Diamond. I eventually found out it was actually Andy Kim. Great memories though.
What a great trip!
You got that right ! WOW! I love your reaction 😉
The absolute power of music to transport you back to a specific place and time. I love it!
Adoro essa música ouço todo dia...
Andy Kim co-wrote "Sugar Sugar," but the song was sung by Ron Dante (who also sang "Tracy" with The Cuff Links, and later produced Barry Manilow.)
I was 15 when this song came out and its always been a favorite.
ROCK ON!!
Another great canadian artist
Isn’t it great to rediscover a long lost favorite? I was 12 when this was out and loved this song. Chevy Van was another one of my favorites from this time period!!
Love your reaction. This came out the year I graduated high school. He was all the girls big crush
Absolutely killer!
One of my fondest memories, was heading out on a school trip, and when we were all on the bus, this song came on the radio, and our whole bus sang along. Totally awesome!

It’s good to see you like 👍 the song
I'm surprised Cosmo didn't come up with this one but, congrats to you Harri. Love it!
Best reaction ever!!!
Always thought it was very Neil Diamond.
I remember this on the radio when I was little, it came out before I was born a year or so but they would still get radio requests for it so that I remember hearing it.
This is about as seventies as seventies songs get... full on "hairy-chested love god."
Oh!! One of the greatest songs!!! Brings back SOO many memories!! ❤
Great Song!!!
I don't think I've ever seen this kind of joy on your face. Love it!!
Harri I get you. I feel the same. It was a mega hit I enjoyed it tremendously
Great reaction, Harri ❤❤❤❤
Nothing better than resurrecting partial memories from your past. Another trip down memory lane
AM Radio staple of the 70’s airwaves ❤️ and when you sing “Rock me gently “
“Rock me slowly” Andy Kim is really a naughty Boy 🤗 he’s really never been loved like that before……. 🤭

Harri, There Was Another Great Song you probably have heard when you was younger from 1975, Swing Your Daddy ~ Jim Gilstrap...
I need to Dance More !💕😇
Loved this song as a kid, still love the song, I get just excited as you do when I hear it. Just doesn't sound the same without the pops and scratches from the old 45.
I still have the LP!
Haha, Harri, you must be about the same age as me because I was around 7 or 8 years-old when I remember this song on the airwaves back in 1974!😀
The look on your face man!!!! I've been there before with another song!
LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!! ... AWESOME SONG CHOICE H.B. ... 😎👍
Not sure I've seen you quite so "giddy" for a reaction Hari - good stuff!
A bit of Neil Diamond meets Disco going on there..
My mom bought me this 45 single along with a few others for my 6th birthday in 1974 ☺
Not taking anything away from him, they just sound alike
Oh how I love this song! Haven’t heard it in over 45 years and it’s such a happy song! Wish it was played on Sirius 70’s on 7…if it has, I haven’t heard it yet. It brings back wonderful memories!
This is in my karaoke repertoire.
Love it! Listened to that one when it came out, that and Drift Away were 2 of my favorites from that timeframe.
Love it! This song came out when I was starting junior high school; it got played over and over at the school dances.
OMG! I just watched a reaction to the Archies' Sugar Sugar and I read in the comments that Andy Kim sang Rock Me Gently. I thought to myself, hmmmmm... that sounds familiar. I wonder... I ended up here to check out if my vague memory is correct, and sure enough it is this song, so I'm right there with you Harri !!!
love your reaction! 🥰
💃💃💃💃💃💃💃♥️♥️♥️♥️
Best Plastic Surgery that Money Could buy in the 1970s.
It was possibly the first disco song!
I listen to an oldies radio station at work, so I hear Andy Kim fairly often. I love the girls' backing vocals on this one.
I have a collection of 70s mp3 records, and 1974 has the most in the folder. So much new exciting and fresh music came out. I remember this well.
💯
Harri you dig up some great diamonds. Here's another one. R Dean Taylors :There's a Ghost in my house :
I think you saw the Canadian version of We are the World called Tears are Not Enough by Northern Lights. If you look closely, at the cast, now that you know what he looks like you will see Andy Kim in the crowd.
maybe have a listen to " Baby I love You " its awesome
Such a fun reaction to watch!
Absolutely one on my play list of playing along with my drums it makes me feel good. I never heard this song until now. I liked it, but your reaction just made it awesome!
Great find Harri, I love this song. Thanks so much, I will be watching this again and again!!
Every once in a rare while, I hear one that I vaguely remember as well. It happened a lot more often before the advent of mp3s and file sharing, but I think I may have run out of those “surprises” by now. Fun innit Harri? 😊

Get on down Harri. 😂❤
That is the definition of a classic pop song. I've always loved this tune. Harri, great to see you let loose with your groove. You need to do it more often, my friend. I love to see people enjoying great music. Us Canadians know how to write/make good music, eh.

I’d forgotten this beautiful song, lovely to hear it again 😌🎶
