    • @neptune9
      @neptune9 2 месяца назад +2

      Yes. To be specific, the Hohner Clavinet. The Hohner Clavinet is basically a cross between a guitar and a keyboard. It plays much like a piano, but it uses a guitar-like pick-up to produce the sound. There is yarn (or now some other material) woven between the strings at one end to give it that funky, muted guitar sound.

    This was the first single I ever bought. I was 9 years old. Bought it at Sam Goody's at Woodbridge Center Mall in NJ. My mom took me. I wore out that record. 50 years later I never get tired of hearing this song

    Andy also had minor hit (#17 in 1970) with a smooth cover of the Ronettes' "Be My Baby." That was probably the first time a lot of '70s teens heard that song.

    Andy Kim had a string of hits starting in 1968 on Jeff Barry's Steed label. His other major hit was "Baby, I Love You", a cover of a Ronettes song from the early 60s. He co-wrote "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies with Jeff Barry. That song, amidst the horror of serious rock fans, became the #1 record of 1969. "Rock Me Gently" hit #1 in the summer of 1974. Andy Kim also goes by the name of "Longfellow" these days.

    Great call guys! Andy Kim did perfectly crafted pop songs, with a string of hits that were soooo catchy. Hooks galore! He ruled the charts for 4 or 5 years, in the early 70s. Any of his singles are pure ear candy. The keyboard sound you liked in the Amber, was a clavinet. Same instrument that Stevie Wonder uses in Superstition.

    I was twelve when this song came out and me and my guy friends would sing this song to girls, we had crushes on when we would be walking home after school.
    Take a close look at the photo of Andy Kim, does he not resemble a 1970's Neil Diamond and sound like him too?
    Keep up the great reactions, Rob Squad! 😊

    This song came out when I was in the 11th grade, very popular. There's a video of Andy Kim talking about when he cowrote Sugar Sugar with Jeff Barry. He sang it also as back up along with Toni White. Ron Dante was lead singer for the Archies fictional group. Sugar Sugar was #1 in 1969. I use to watch the Archies cartoon. Andy Kim had other songs too.

    The funky keyboard during the breakdown section is a Hohner Clavinet, an early electronic instrument also heard prominently on Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.
    The bright little motif heard at the end of each chorus is a synthesizer.
