- Glock introduced the Model 17 in 1982 and the Gen 2 series in 1988 and the Model 19 was introduced that year. A few Gen 1 Prototypes were made but the Model 19 went into production as a Gen 2 pistol. I recently inherited a few Gen 2 Glocks from my grandfather who just passed. The 19 and 22 were left in the boxes and never fired
I'm sorry for your loss, however that's really cool that they were never fired.
Safety ALERT
it looks like your base plate on your gen 2 magazine is orriginal. Upgrade it.
Upgrading is a necessity in my opinion as I had the earlier thinner mag bases and one literally cracked and fell off which left me with only one round in the chamber and the rest on the ground.
This is also the reason I never carry plus one anymore because I determined the extra pressure from the extra round is what caused the thinner base plate to crack and then break off.
There was also a factory "recall"if he will buy Glock on the newer guns.
I can't remember exactly what it was but it had something to do with the firing and I never did the upgrade but just thought I'd let you know .
Bought my gun in 1990 and it works flawlessly with the exception of the original magazine bases .
@@LifeSavingDefense thank you
R.I.P. Gaston Glock.....
Gen 2’s were the best machined extractors, polygonal barrel, tennifer finish
They're still polygonal although slightly modified
All down hill from there
That was my first Glock. Came with a factory adjustable sight. I still have it and it still shoots great!
G19 My EDC for years. Wouldn’t change that for nothing. Works every single time.
I still have my 2nd gen Glock 17, 23, and 21 models. They pretty much live in my safe these days.
Im still got the glock 27 40sw gen 1 still shoots like the day i got it. I believe i got in 1995 or 96. Matter fact, im caring it today
The 27 didn't come out until gen3
@@leahbennett4979 they were technically gen 2 but had gen 3 features before gen 3 was released. They are often referred to as gen 2.5
First handgun I ever procured back in 1990 as a young Army Captain stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. Still have it and still love it. Can’t recall the last time I had any type of failure with it. Very accurate and reliable.
I’ve still got my original Glock 19 Gen 2 that I purchased all those years ago. It’s my favorite handgun and I’d never trade it for any other gun. I’ve still got the original Tupperware container as well. 1000s of rounds through her and she’s smooth as glass.
My Gen 2 still rides shotgun in my '87 Carrera. Gotta keep it teutonic.
Black Internals never touched still has factory NYC Trigger.
You sound as cool as Johnny Silverhand.
My dad carried one in Law Enforcement and still carries as his EDC. I emulated this and got a Gen2 Glock 19 for my EDC. Works every time and is an outstanding carry option.
I had 2 G17G2 factory refurbished that were fantastic. Still have one 1of them.
A while back, I picked up three LEO trade in G19 gen 3 pistols for decent prices. Friends asked why? Well, they work, I have spares, and if I end up with extra people at the ranch when society breaks down, more firearms is never bad. One is none, two is one, and three is a spare. That is my prep rule.
The Volkswagen beetle of pistols 👍
Love my G17L gen3 6.02" barrel, G40 gen4 10mm 6.02", and G19X gen5 coyote peanut butter.
Thank you Sootch ✌️
Rest In Peace Gaston Glock 🥀
as a native Californian, back in 1998 I bought my first slightly used Glock 19 G2 (pre CA 10 plus mag ban) at a local gun shop’s recommendation and still own it today as my CCW, with updated mods: Brownells Slide RMR cut with a Holosun 507C X2 grn, flat face trigger shoe, tungsten guide rod, Streamlight light/laser, etc.; I also bought for carry a G26/G3…the reliability and simplicity of working on Glock’s with industry supported competitive upgraded part mods can’t be beat !
Don't own one, but its easy to see why people love 'em. The epitome of practical. Great video, as usual.
Thanks Brother!
Gen 1s were ground-breaking..... Gen 2s had good grip texture and fantastic trigger..... Gen 3s to me were the peak of development (still have mine) Gen 4s got a little off track..... Gen 5s I was NEVER able to under stand them.
Gen 3 is still my favorite. Best trigger for sure.
I agree
Got to meet you and Robbie Wheaton in Virginia for rally day 2020 great guy man keep up the good work Long live the Republic and FJB
That was an amazing day Brother! Thanks Brandon~
I never go out without my Glock 19X and my Spartan Blade.
I used to own one 20 years ago, really a reliable.
picked up a gen 2 glock 19 awhile ago and it was also a trade in but was obviously carried more then shot. Still a great shooter and a great carry gun.
Really enjoyed, good info, carried the 19 till I retired, thanks so much
Thanks Ira! I appreciate it
Still have mine from 1989.
While at work reading a gun magazine an ammo manufacturer reported they used a glock to test 9mm and used a glock 17 and at that time it had over 360 thousand rounds through it and they were amazed that it would still function
The Gen 2 was my first Hkock also.
My first Glock was a gen 2 G19 which I purchased new in early 1990. To this day, it is still my favorite go to pistol though I own many pistols and revolvers. The pistol is still so tight and the trigger is better than any other gen 2, 3, 4, or 5 I own. I'd never part with it. My gen 2 G19 is a transitional pistol as it has an uncaptured guide rod spring and the 2 magazines that came with it have the mags with metal feed lips only.
Timely article for me. My Gen 2 G19 was my off duty gun for years but not carried much lately. I am waiting for a new optic for my Shadow Systems MR920 (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). I had already moved the old optic to another pistol so been carrying the 19 again. It's not a Staccato but I find it reassuring to have with me.
So far l have three Glocks . I bought my first one for a contract job in l986. I had a little trigger work done any it's really smooth . I've converted that one into a rifle with a 16" barrel. I also have a model 30 Gen 4 and a Gen 5 model 26 which I now carry every day . My backup mag holds 17 rounds . When l policed in the 60's l carried either my 1911 or a S&W model 19 357 magnum. I enjoy the information you give us .
Thanks John!
This was my first Glock 35 years ago, still have it and many more. There are many better guns now than Glocks but they will always be special to me.
The first and only handgun I ever bought. I really appreciate this video.
Still have my Glock 22 Gen 2.
Glocks beauty is its simplicity..in my mind i just seem them as the amazing functional tool that they are..i always seem to drift back to my 17 gen 3..just so functional and reliable..thank you
Very good comparative …..GLOCK just run….and run and run and run. And, there are fantastic guide rods and spring upgrades ….
I'm not even a Glock guy but found this to be a great breakdown. Good stuff Soootch!
Thanks Brother!
Watching this video currently with mine, snuggly nestled in its appendix holster. It was my grandfather's 2nd glock. Its still in great shape because he didn't shoot it much. I, on the other hand...
I bought a 23 in 1996 while in service in San Dog. looks just like the 19. They shoot well for sure.
Lipsey's should do a prototype Gen 1 Glock 19 since they exist but were never released commercially.
Sootch, you definitely need the ETS-GROUP-C-A-M-LOADER-P for all those mags! Great video, as always!
I bought my Glock 19 as a Gen2. I chipped the magazine well loading a magazine. Glock replaced with a Gen3 frame (free). Over time Polymer plastic becomes brittle.
That’s a great video I bought my Glock 23 gen 2 in 1990 all I have done to it is put some Trijicon HD night sights on it and got a 9mm double diamond conversion barrel from the Glockstore. It shoots great with both barrels.
I love my model 17 Gen, 2 I've never purchased or upgraded to other gen pistols. It's perfect. There's no "Lego Parts" to add to the back strap. Love your reviews Sootch. keep up the fantastic work.
For me the Beretta 92FS will always be superior to Glock, i say it by my personal experience. One more thing, Sootch you an amazing work with this channel, keep doing it.
Thanks Joao! I always appreciate the kind words
Thank you Sootch great video I have learned a lot about Glocks from you over the years.
Great video! I love my Glock 19. Like you, it’s simplicity is what makes it so timeless.
Thanks Brother!
Thanks for sharing this info!
I’m definitely a Glock fan. The only Glock I may like more than my G19 is my G26. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for another good review.
Thank You. Spot on once again.
That's Pretty Good Info. Thanks !!!
Great video ty!
Still have my 17 Gen1 and a 22 Gen 2 and they are still being shot regularly just changing recoil springs and changed the firing springs !
Also just realized you and Gaston Glock could be brothers lol
I still remember the night, summer of 1989, when our friend stopped by with a his newly purchased Gen-2 G19. Honestly the pistol wasn’t well accepted in our group of friends as the popular pistols we were carrying at that time were Sig Sauer P225/228/226, Colt 1911 combat commander, Browning Hi-Power, and a S&W 3913. He tried to convince us of all the attributes of the Glock. Lightweight, capacity and a funky ass trigger we all scoffed at. Who knew?
What a legend
Always great to see a glock review i love glocks i have glock 17 gen 3 i love it thanks for sharing sootch00
Great video bubbuh sootch
I got my Gen2 19 the first day they became available and still carrying to this day
Love this video!!!
I have a 5-digit G19.2 from the early 90's. It is perfection. Glock should've stopped right there. Smooth shooting and easy to carry.
I have a gen 2 19! Love it!
I own a Model 45, great gun. Little too long in the grip for me to conceal well. Maybe I need to finally pickup a 19! Thanks for the video
love my gen2s 17 21 22
... never really liked the 19
but the slim version (48)
is right for me
Oldie but a goodie
Sootch! Ya neglected to mention the magazine cut-out in front of the grip & the flared mag well!🙄🤣Good Video!😉
Something about that tennifer finish on the gen 2, looks and feels like an old catchers mit.
Great video.
Saudações do Brasil 🇧🇷. Seus vídeos são maravilhosos.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Early gen 5's only have rear cocking serations.
Fronts were added later
I know Gaston has since then passed, but I would love if the Glock team would release a 19 classic like they did with the 17 a couple years ago. We need a retro Glock line to be released
There is a firearms museum in Cody Wyoming. I could have sworn I saw a Gen 1 19 there.
CLASSIC OG!
I have been edcing a gen 2 19 for over 5 years.
Prayer for Paul Harrell is appreciated at this difficult time in his life battling pancreatic cancer. Honestly, his time is short, and he’s loved by many in the gun community.
No glock slide finish is better than the original Frying pan Finish.
To date, this is my best carry pistol!!!!
I own a Gen 2 17 19 and 22 , ive held a Gen 1 19 from a retired Amelia Police officer
I might be tho only one but I like the worn look of the old gun. Enjoyed the video.
PSA had some G19.2 LE trade ins less than a year ago
Gen 2 is OG fantastic equipment
I'd like to know what generation of the Glock 19 has black internals. I once saw a Glock 19 with black internals and a non-captured recoil spring system.
Still got my “GI” bring back 19C from Germany no US markings, with a tuperwear box and customs papers
If reintroduced Gen 2 19 with the grip texture of the Gen 5 would sell for the basic simplicity, some shooters dont want the front strap finger grooves nor use any accessories to mount on the dust cover rail.
The only Glock I ever owned was a 19 Gen 5, but I wasn’t a big fan of the slide finish, the grip feel & length, and the fact that I just didn’t shoot it well. But they’re doing just fine without my business🙂.
My favorite Glock 19
My first Glock is 34 Gen 5.
And then if we (technically) go to Gen 3, Springfield Echelon.
Glock company should’ve kept Gen 2 for life. Best Glock ever made.
This legend is my age
I don't like the serrated trigger shoe on my Gen 4 so i swapped it out for a 17 shoe that is until I installed an Apex Tactical trigger kit now I'm happy howbeit I wish that Apex Tactical would've made the trigger shoe like the one that goes on the shield 2.0 and plus
FC from Thailand
I am Brazilian, and i am curious about the Gun Laws in Thailand.
I carry my G3 19 errr day.
Same
Pre 94 G19/17 mags are 100-200 in Massachusetts. 😐
Nice❤
Can you put a gen 2 slide on gen 3 or 4 frames?
The Gen 2 will drop mags freely. I'm pretty sure the mag that came with yours isn't a drop free mag. It's a mag issue not the pistol itself. I have a Gen2 I bought used and have over 20k rounds through it. 😊 love it
Sounds like just the thing I’m looking for something that has compatibility with a PC carving by Ruger and reliable as all get out what can possibly go wrong with a generation three California compliant Glock number 319. Thank you very much.
I was wondering and hoping if this is CA compliant. I'f so, I'd rather have this than the Gen 3 Glocks out of the box since finger grooves make it uncomfortable to shoot with my big fingers and hands.
This is the best gun you reviewed so far, I have this gun and will never part with it
Still the best.
A glock is a glock
Even the 1911 has evolved
You don't fix what aint broke. glock is the epitome of perfection.
These Glocks are great but they have been superceded by the Walther PDP. Better design, better trigger, better accuracy, better grip and ambi controls.
Glock has sadly gotten stuck in a rut, not really improving much over the years whereas Walther has raced way ahead.
Plus they are German so you know they are 100% reliable
I'll stick with my Glocks.
Mags are cheap and so am I
Yet Glocks sell more of their product, and their still living in everyone's head rent free
