Hand in Hand gives me the nostaliga I never physically had. It brings me thoughts and joys of the people living in the 80s in Seoul. I love it very much!
I believe Hand in Hand was the one song which really triggered global interest in Olympic theme songs, and the next two songs were just as successful. These songs were played repeatedly on radios round the world long after the Olympics and were on music charts. But I suppose the 1980s and 90s were the best era for inspiring, anthemic music, for the ones since 2000 were just forgettable, unless you are a local with vested interests.
Barcelona by Freddy Mercury 1992 and Reach by Gloria Estefan 1996 also deserve a listing - plus the 'unofficial' One Moment in Time by Whitney Houston 1988. I would add also Pass the Flame by Yiannis Kotsiras 2004.
One Moment in Time was official, just not the main theme song. Barcelona was certainly unofficial, but if Freddy were still alive he would certainly performed it.
@@LordDavid04 It depends on what do you mean 'official'. 'One Moment in Time' was included in an album made in USA about the 1988 Olympics. However, the 1988 Games took place in South Korea and the said album does not include 'Hand in Hand', the real official song of the specific Olympics, and Whitney Houston never performed it at Seoul. Barcelona, however, was selected as an official theme and a recording of the song was played (since Mercury was diseased) over a travelogue of the city at the start of the opening ceremony.
@@LordDavid04One moment in time was NOT the official song for 1988 Seoul Olympics. I lived in Seoul at the time of Olympics One moment in time never played during the Olympics. Hand in Hand is the official song.
I vaguely remember Hand in Hand when I was small, but understood that the Olympics were meant to have a song for each 4 years. Amigos Para Siempre stuck with me long after I saw it at the Barcelona closing ceremony on TV. I even drew a picture of that year's Olympic mascot while at school. Honorable mention for Gloria Estafan's 'Reach' and Celine Dion's 'Power of the Dream'
Muse was appalling. Funny how other non-official songs are more synonymous with certain Games depending on how they are used. Some more memorable ones: 1984: Gold by Spandau Ballet and Olympic Fanfare and Theme by John Williams 1992: Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Monserrat Caballe 1996: Tara’s Theme by Spiro &Wix 2000: Absolutely Everybody by Vanessa Amorosi 2012: Heroes by David Bowie, First Steps by Elbow and I Heard Wonders by David Holmes
I don't know about most but I know the official song for the Atlanta games was "Reach" by Gloria Estefan -- yes, even if I like Celine Dion's song better -- and I'm not sure about this one but the Sydney song was "The Flame" sung by Tina Arena .
Prior to Montreal 1976 it was mostly just fanfare. Munich 1972 had an Olympic March, and there was also a sort of psychedelic song used in the opening ceremony as well.
I think is a mistake over there in Atlanta 96. Reach or "Puedes llegar" in spanish, is the official song of Atlanta 96 performed by Gloria Stefan. From all the songs: Hand in Hand (Seoul 88), Amigos para siempre (Barcelona 92) & Reach "Puedes llegar" (Atlanta 96) are the bests of all songs. Very played in radios & tv music programs all the year, very famous songs than others of the oIympic games. I really like the spanish version of Reach "Puedes llegar" performed by many spanish language singers, included, Gloria Stefan, Roberto Carlos, José Luis Rodriguez (El Puma), Jon Secada, Alejandro Fernandez, Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias, Carlos Vives, Plácido Domingo, etc.

Another country that missed the opportunity to demonstrate its culture through music. 🇨🇳Beijing 2008 - The music sounds very Chinese... congratulations to the Chinese. 🇬🇧London 2012 - Song in English... and very rock n'roll... Great Britain is the country of Rock for me (Queen, Sex Pistols, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc) 🇧🇷Rio 2016 - Song in Portuguese. Congratulations to the Brazilians. 🇯🇵Tokyo 2020 - Song in Japanese... congratulations to the Japanese. 🇫🇷Paris 2024 - Hello World -> Song in English... which sounds more like a Coca Cola advertisement than an Olympic song
Seoul Olympic, Hand in hand. . .
Hand in hand is my best Olympic song.
Agreed!
그건 니가 한국인이기 때문이야!
I agree. Hand in Hand is the best Olympics song. I think the Beijing is the opening ceremony .

Oh Koreana 💕
Hand in Hand is hands down the best Olympic Song followed by Power of A Dream.
Hand in Hand is my favorite followed by Amigos para Siempre.

It was Survival
*Amigos Para Siempre/Amics Per Sempre
welxome to beijong was beijing 2008's official song
No doubt
1988 seoul koreana!! Best!
Hand in hand❤
i love hand in hand and survival, best two imo
1984 e 1988 as melhores. Já a de Barcelona 92 também é legalzinha.

The best Amigo para siempre e Hand in Hand
Seoul 1988 and Tokyo 2021 still the best ❤❤❤❤❤
One of the radio stations in Atlanta played a mix of "The Power of the Dream" and commentary from gymnastics with "The Magnificent Seven."
It would be more interesting to see the real singers in action than seeing basketball players along with the music.
I love hand to hand and the power of the dream
As a Korean I'm so proud of Hand in Hand... 손에 손잡고
My favorite song is from Barcelona 92'
Mi canción favorita es la de Barcelona 92'
I like Muse version. It's like the first time Olympic had a rock-themed song.
Love Friends for ever or Barcelona, Hans to hand of Seoul and London's song, is so energetic.

Will you do winter next?
I jave to say hand in hands was the best for sure 2nd comes rio song
Reach for 96 was by far the best.
There is also a great song from Athens 2004 called "Pass the flame", by Greek artist Yiannis Kotsiras
Hand in Hand should be the official theme song of the Olympics. Stop singing Imagine....
Rio, London and LA are my favorites.
Magic Voices- Australia. Theme of Sydney 2000. And Freddie's and Montserrat duet
My fav are 2000,1988,2008 and 1996
Montréal, Québec the best
Do the same thing with Winter Olympics. I Believe from Vancouver 2010 is the best
La de Barcelona 92 no era la de Freddie Mercury y Montserrat Caballé?
Si era pero cuando Freddy murió la tuvieron que cambiar pero dejaron la grabación

"I Believe" is the best one

Oceania was definitely not the song for Athens 2004 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Do Winter ones
They should make this songs look happy and inspiring, but most of them have a... Sad vibe
The theme of Beijing 2008 is the worst
Don't forget "One Moment In Time" by Whitney Houston
I thought it was Under The Southern Skies, but i guess thats the closing song.
So is this only the Summer Olympics? Because Canada 2010 is not on this list you skip from like 2008 to 2016
Donde está Beijing welcomes you??? Una de las mejores canciones de los juegos Olímpicos!
