I am one of the extremely privileged 1,000 drummers on this track. Being a volunteer, working with the awesome Rik Smith from Underworld and our amazing drum teachers Mike Dolbear and team and learning to drum from scratch has transformed our lives. See our documentary on BBC July 17th 2016 (tomorrow night!) 10.30 pm. This experience changed my life and the life of many others too. Never underestimate the power of volunteering and music. God is awesome to give me this opportunity to change my life in this way.
I was the Staging crew. Saw the documentary tonight. Honestly, the drumming really was the BEST part. Heard you guys several times during rehearsals, but every single time, I got goosebumps. It worked so, SO well with the quiet whistling tune parts.
Saw that documentary Lindsay and it was brilliant - love the simplicity behind the drums (buckets etc!) and drumming to that phrase about your mum seeing you on TV :-) It was a night no-one watching will ever forget for the rest of their lives - just amazing and well done for being part of it :)
thanks to the paris olympics opening ceremony, i went and revisited opening ceremonies of previous games and have to say the industrial revolution performance in 2012 london was absolutely stunning, definitey top1 for me (the 2008 drummers performance from 2008 beijing comes second). glad that there is a separate music track that i can loop all day along
London, England, the whole UK is an example....I still remember that day in 2005, when London was chosen as the host city...I couldn't be happier...That day I knew the XXX olympics games were going to be the greatest...!!! I'm from Chile and I've always had a big admiration to the British Culture...We'll that's not very common here, BUT, watching the opening ceremony a lot of people realised that it's impossible to deny the BIG influence that the UK has in our world. Thanks for thar!
So elegant, yet so driving and fierce. Immensely complex, but also beautifully simplistic. You can actually hear "Britons....keep climbing, keep building, inventing, progressing, exploring. Make this World yours." And they did. I am proud to be an American, but today's American superpower is yesterday's British Empire.
God-like. Why electronic goes beyond anything I could possibly hear. The relentless energy, inspiration and power of this piece blasts you from one end of the universe and back. Rick Smith wrote two amazing pieces for the Olympics. We salute you Rick!!!
Easily one of the greatest pieces of music I will ever hear. It evokes throughout. I am looking forward to Paris 2024 in only a month or two. I appreciate Tokyo for trying during the pandemic, but we haven't had that Olympic feeling since 2016 and especially (2012-2008) I feel this year's olypiad, after covid, could be memorable. Let's go!
2 months later lol. I'm French and let me tell you, I feel like the Parisian globalist elite stole our Olympics. Paris 2024 Opening ceremony had nothing to say about France except a few scenes that only account for something like 15min on a 3h show. It was a pretty but still meaningless giant nightclub. London 2012 was definitely the best Opening I've seen, and I wish Paris had the same kind of energy. London 2012 actually talked about British culture, both past and modern. The first 20min (first the kids singing, then "Pandemonium" the scene that goes with this music) made a beautiful and unifying (and not controversial...) depiction of UK history, both the good and the bad. What sells Pandemonium is that I can imagine how both an Ultra-Capitalist and a Marxist can watch it and get a positive feeling about it. Take what little was done for Paris 2024 to depict our history, it's basically an LGBTQ+ advertisement, and the Revolution is depicted as a joyful bloodbath of the aristocracy. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of bringing Gojira to the show, but the comical depiction of one of our most violent period of History is inappropriate for such a ceremony. It shows that either the show producer has no idea about what exactly happened at the time beyond the funny cliche, or (more probably) only sees the Revolution through the very narrow-minded view of French leftists who will embellish it as much as possible (including glorifying the mass decapitations of political oponents) because it looks like a proto-Marxist revolution. The rest of 2024 Paris, as I said, is just a nightclub and there is nothing to say or remember about it except that, yes, the Eiffel Tower light show was very impressive. I suspect Paris 2024 is the product of its time, and if London had happened in 2024 instead, it would also have been "meh". Still, London organizers did an amazing job on every aspect of the Opening.
I'm from Malaysia...and i am very moved by this songs..especially when we suffer the lost ones..i always cry,but I'm moved on to be a better person, building emotions to complete feelings and finally when the song hits the end,it mean i am complete person....Thanks to this song,I am now awaken from terrible dreams...
Still gives me goosebumps, 12 years and 3500 miles from home. My gratitude to Danny Boyle and every single worker, volunteer, creative and technical team for forging a memory that we will never forget. ❤
Me too! I only watched a little bit of Sydney, Athens and Beijing (and I'm not sure if I watched some pieces of the Olympics in Atlanta) in my lifetime, but the Olympics in London were the first ones that I´ve actually watched. All about the Olympic Games in London were amazing!
know its 6 years on but replying anyway. Beijing was amazing but was such controlled choreography, tight military precision it was crazy impressive. You should check it out if you can find it. The UKs had more heart tho and showed the things they hold proud. The whistle starting was a tribute to those that fought in the WW's so that everyone in the stadium could live in a free(ish) country... so kinda opposite to China! Anyway if nothing else giv this masterpiece another listen....✌
This song and "Caliban's Dream" are my absolute favorites from the Olympic Entrance Ceremony. Blew me clean out of the water then, and still does... Simply amazing music...
Apart from the NHS segment - and I love! the NHS - London 2012 was one of the best Olympic Games opening shows ever! Don't care if it makes me a sad nerd, have watched it 7 or 8 times.
If another "Voyager" will be send to space, they do not have to forget to add this piece of music in its golden Record disc :o) !!! Well... Amazing, stunning piece of music ! So much different emotions in it...
Amazing song and to think people baulked at Underworld doing the music for the opening ceremony. 8yrs on and still give it a listen now and again, underworld at their best so many layers late on... Props to Evelyn Gwinney too. ✌
This did and still does give me chills, that opening for the olympics has to be the best there has ever been! It even brought tears to my eyes it was that powerfull. Still blown away by it today and its 2020 fgs.
My most favourite piece of music in the world, makes me cry, laugh, feel uplifted and proud all at the same time. I am so envious of you being a part of this as one of the drummers - just amazing. I can imagine how it must have changed yout life because I only have to listen to it and I feel that anything is possible. Reading the other comments here I can see how it has affected so many people - an incredible piece of music.
I remember my first time hearing this song while watching the opening. I was in college watching it on the big screen with everyone in the main cafeteria and the sound of the drums, combined with the image of the rising molten rings, was absolutely jaw-dropping. I couldn't help but be inspired to make my next metal-making class project based on the song alone. It was like a match made in heaven. Years later I still get chills listening to the opening and become inspired all over again.
Gives me goosebumps every time. One of the best songs ever. So much power and emotion. A journey of the world indeed. Culdnt be any better illustration of the Olympics through music
The Opening Ceremony has touched my heart as any other land did before. I'm brazilian and watched it last friday with a curiosity taste in my mouth to know how it's gonna be in the next Olympics, in my land, in Rio. I've just downloaded the songs from iTunes and I've been searching for the best parts here on RUclips. It was just genial and simple, without vanity as it was in China.
Its coming up to november and I'm still watching recordings of london 2012. I loved it so much and I feel privileged that it didnt just happen in my country, or my home city. It happened literally NEXT DOOR and i feel so proud of that.
This takes me to a happy place (London 2012) where I can forget about all the troubles and divisions in the world today, and be reminded of when the country and the world came together for such an incredible party. This is the soundtrack to that moment.... and I will kiss :)
+Colin Montgomery if you can understand music or what I mean you will know, because it's hard to explain how because I'm not good at speaking in english.
What is it about this enchanting music from the games it seems to uplift and move oneself to a higher level ...loved the games , love the whistle well done underworld and Danny boyle I am sure these memories will live into the future , for me its replay time :-)
I'm scared, I want to listen to this song again... But if I hit that play button again, I won't be able to do anything productive for another 15 minutes, Only listen in awe and be incredible proud of the lads who incorporated this into a show of unbridled patriotism.
Underworld just doing what they do, doing it for music for here and now for ever for the future for all for us for me for you for everyone, Overworld and Underworld exposed we love you.
¡¡Al fin encontré esta cancion!!, Felicitaciones a Londres y en general a todo el Reino Unido por los Juegos Olímpicos del 2012, ¡¡las mejores que he visto!! Saludos desde Chile. Finally I've found this song!! Congratulacions to London, and in general to the United Kingdom for the 2012 Olympic Games. The best I've ever seen!! Greetings from Chile.
This is an amazing piece that worked to perfection in the ceremony the motif at 6mins is poignant and the trpets and layered sounds near the end are amazing. Thank you underworld I have always liked what you have produced
Esta cancion es absolutamentee maravillosa, desde que la conoci en londres 2012 es una cancion que me evoca la humanidad..tendria que ser el himno a la humanidad..esta cancion deberia ser patrimonio de la humanidad.
The last minute of this song does wonders on my goose bumps. It locates each and every one of them. Wished the whole song sounded like this. Amazing sound!
I'm SO glad I found this song. Thank you Thank you for uploading this. I was literally awe-struck and so emotionally moved by the sublime performance. Honestly towards the end when they're chanting, I had ongoing goosebumps. Danny Boyle you are a genius!
This song is immense... It falls short without the seeing those towers rise. By that I mean experiencing it from a visual and audible aspect... I LOVE this song though and I loved everything about the ceremony and couldn't have wished for more... If I am honest, I will not feel upset if we don't win a single medal because our opening ceremony did it all for me. All the time they've spent on this, the planning and it all paid off, a true work of art that shows the world this is Britain.
I wasn't really interested to watch the opening ceremony. But when I heard the background music, and of course saw the spectacular visual effects, I was hooked! Such a great show!
Yea I watched it the whole way through and it was Amazing! Fantastic. Night I'll never forget. Also the halfway point, that saturday night is unforgetable too. Jess Ennis, Mo Farah, it was amazing! Just like Britain!
Through its language and culture Great Britain has had more influence on the world than any other country. The London Olympic Games were truly magnificent.
In 2008 people asked "How can we compete with that?" in response to the Beijing Opening Ceremony. Four years later I replied "We Scoured The Shire." ♥
@Sean in my personal view, '12 was better than '08!!
2022 and I'm still listening to it on loop, for me the best song ever, a colossal work of art made into a song

WOW - I hate opening ceremonies but London 2012 was brilliant. Well done you
Saw that documentary Lindsay and it was brilliant - love the simplicity behind the drums (buckets etc!) and drumming to that phrase about your mum seeing you on TV :-) It was a night no-one watching will ever forget for the rest of their lives - just amazing and well done for being part of it :)
underworld mix
9 years later I still listen to this still for me was best 20mins I’ve seen on tv 🇬🇧
From an Australian, the soundtrack to the Opening Ceremony was a stroke of masterpiece, but this track was friggin epic! Well played Britain!
the London Olympics 2012 was the best thing I ever seen and I love this song alot
I agree with you

They're right!
***** You did a fine job. I almost cried lol
yep
It was amazing. Still here in 2017 listening to it.
Still listening to this incredible masterpiece in 2022 🎶🥁
still beautiful 4 years on. makes me proud to be British
This is the sound of human strength, unity, and progression. Beautiful!
This isn't music ....this is a spiritual experience
still slaps so hard it's so good

This song "And I Will Kiss" would be perfect for a choreography of ballet or modern dance! Someday my dream will come true :3
Only the Brits could come up with something this cool.
So elegant, yet so driving and fierce. Immensely complex, but also beautifully simplistic. You can actually hear "Britons....keep climbing, keep building, inventing, progressing, exploring. Make this World yours."

There seriously needs to be more music like this!
Checkout all of Underworld's repertoire. I love all of their music.
Who still listening in 2021?
I envy too much those who were fortunate enough to enjoy this on the opening day
3 years on and this music is still amazing. I was lucky enough to see this live. Spine tingling !! Well done.
proactive48 The experience of this life is amazing! The beat was literally heart pumping!

This takes me to a happy place (London 2012) where I can forget about all the troubles and divisions in the world today, and be reminded of when the country and the world came together for such an incredible party. This is the soundtrack to that moment.... and I will kiss :)

The music gives me a feeling of being in a fresh, peaceful, quiet place. It's a great masterpiece for those who did this. :-)
I can't understand how you would get a feeling of peace from listening to this organized chaos.
+Colin Montgomery if you can understand music or what I mean you will know, because it's hard to explain how because I'm not good at speaking in english.
+Shawn Matthew Mangalus I think your English seems pretty good to me. 😉

The ultimate masterpiece of Sir Rick Smith
When techno producers get to work at a big event like the Olympics this is what happens! EPIC!!!
This makes me feel so PUMPED and motivated to make something out of my life but cry at the same time! Such a masterpiece!
Through its language and culture Great Britain has had more influence on the world than any other country. The London Olympic Games were truly magnificent.
