I'll hold my hands up and honestly say I thought it was going to be a waste of time and money... "Why the hell do we want the Olympics?"..... I had a couple of mates over for a drink and we all watched the opening ceremony... All in sound surround and on a massive LED... All I can say is... I never had or ever will see such a amazing and powerful show again in my life. I think its the first time I had ever felt proud to be British... The world was watching in Amazement....
I had the incredible privilege of being in the cast for this astonishing show. Appeared out of the top of the Tor at the start of the industrial revolution, helped turn the fields into factories, and ended up on the stage under the rings as they converged and sparked into life. To do that to this music as it boomed through that stadium, mixing in with all the intensity and energy of the crowd and the spectacle... Magical!
I am from Scotland. I always am proud to be Scottish. After the Olympics and the amazing display of the opening ceremony, the massive support from GB, today I proud to be part of the United Kingdom. Hopefully we will always remain as Great Britain
I am french and lived in london for 2 years. And although i am not british, i feel like i belong to this country. Proud for the British people (and proud to be sort of one) !
The opening ceremony has enforced the value into our nation and has put the 'phenomenal' back into Great Britain. This is the start of even greater things to come. If everyone felt as inspired as I do right now, we would conquer the world.
The industrial Revolution section made me proud to think that we changed the face of the entire world. A wonderful performance, and should I hope have grabbed young viewers into the idea of the revolution, and hopefully, want them to learn more. And Kenneth Brangah as Brunel, OMG he didn't even have to say anything and it was a wonderful performance ! LOVE IT
Unbeliavably beautiful. I'm an American admiring from Madison, Wisconsin........Underworld.....Rick Smith and Karl Hyde......best Olympics in my lifetime, just magical!
As a Scot too, I have always considered myself British and this years Olympics brought us all together and further affirmed why I am proud to be both Scottish and British. Long may it remain like that
Indeed - it was one thing to see the amazing spectacle on TV, but to be there in the stadium was indescribable. I wish we could bottle up that feeling and share it with the world!
I think I'll be enjoying this fantastic song until the day I die...I'll be in a nursing home in my 80's playing this and the young nursing aides who aren't even born yet will probably like it too----thanks Underworld, and thank you London for hosting a truly wonderful Olympics----from Wisconsin, USA.
You prolly dont give a shit but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Leonard Nehemiah Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Listening to this and seeing the towers rise from the ground with the workers on scaffolding and then seeing the rings being "forged" during the opening ceremony... Made me literally go O_O.... wow.... Amazing music and went extremely well with the presentation. Good luck to all the athletes at the Olympics! They all worked hard to be there.
Oh my god Iam Crying!!!! My Favourate Music is this one. I wish i can listen to more of this kind of music. any suggestion guys it has been so long i have been seeking for this music. I love London all the way from South Africa. Thank you so much!!! Wowwwwwwwwwwww!
I saw the opening ceremony on TV and can honestly say it was magical. So creative, outstanding and very BRITISH! Makes me proud to be British and what a fantastic piece of music too! :-)
WOW!! was the best bit of the whole amazing ceremony, exceded all expectations and did us all proud and glad to to see the world loved us proud to be a scottish BRIT, will never forget this magic moment in our life times thank you LONDON and TEAM GB for the wonderfull memories XX
iam british and live in the states and i must say this part of the show got me very emotional..stunning music, especially when it pauses at the whistling part to remember the fallen of the world wars and beyond..reviews here in the states were mixed but i guess you have to be a proud brit to appreciate it..!!!
Brilliant ceremony, specially this part. Stirring, emotional. We are here and we are what we are thanks to the struggle and effort of our past generations. We cant no fail. ;-) Congrats UK, from Spain.
London, that was the best opening ceremony of any games ever, only Manchester's Commonwealth Games in 2002 comes close. The Industrial Revolution section was amazing and Manchester was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, it made me proud to be a Mancunian and British. How proud Londoners must be, it made me proud to be British so you Londoners must have been bursting at the seams. Well done London!
So true.....I'll say it was the greatest show on Earth... Being 42 I have seen quite a bit ... But this was like nothing I had ever seen! Most of us had a tear in our eye and when the Industrial Revolution part came on I don't think anyone made a noise in the room! Watching the Chimney stacks rising out of the ground and then the forging of the ring with all the people in time with the sledge hammers... Being from Wales and all the coal and steel industries we had made me proud to be British
Danny Boyle surpassed himself with the opening ceremony and the music was blazingly good. Makes the hairs on the back of my neck go up every single time I watch the ceremony and especially the creation of the ring and the five ring sequence. Oh and the flame .. oh the flame .. wonderful.
Epic theatre with an epic score with choral arrangements akin to working chants, the horn and drumming, the sound of industry propelling you forwards in it's visceral ebb and flow like cogs of machinery. It seemed like a salute to the workers who were born, lived, breathed and died in "The Workshop Of England". The soaring chants and horns at 12:00 was almost too much, an echo of their voices from the past, slightly melancholic yet all the while working to the greater goal. Stunning.
I think the chimneys were made of cloth and they had support rings in them... so as they were lifted by the wires they looked like they were solid coming out of the ground... The ring? I can only think it was already there and they used some type of lighting system to make it look like it was being pored into the mould... Cant wait for the DVD!
An incredible piece of music, so much emotion, such epicness, I felt shivers of excitement, awe and pride when this played during the opening ceremony.
For the first time in my life I am proud to be British and a Londoner. I also admit that I thought it would be a terrible but this was the most inspirating thing my girlfriend and I have ever seen. We saw it on tv in Florida and our jaws just dropped. Well done to all those that took part and done us proud.
this is just so awesome i dont know why, if it wasnt for these kind of people we wouldnt even be here..innovations were bought through generations, generations on to other generations bring new ideas..technology advances and with it brings new challenges
Best part of the ceremony! Song to remember for life!!!! A ceremony that made me proud! Cause haven't been proud for my country for 2-3 years. After yesterday's opening ceremony I realised that nothing can match the Athens 2004 opening ceremony. Thank you London for that!!!!
This is a brillant piece from the opening ceremony. The industrial revolution part was amazing! Enjoyed every bit of it. Underworld and Dame Evelyn Glennie are one fantastic duo.
One of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. Combine that to the Industrial Revolution part of the Opening, and it was just overwhelmingly stunning!
OMG i have been searching everywhere for this , i heard it on the opening ceremony and feel in love with it im so glad i found it just amazing pure amazing
The show was epic music perfect, goose bumps, emotion, unity, history truly magical, any criticism is mere whispers in comparison to that show....welcome world to the games.
Basically: YES it was. I wish we could bottle up that energy and spirit. The closest I can get to doing so is to listen to this track, close my eyes and let the images and feelings come back.
I was so impressed I watched the whole thing through again on iplayer. It gets better and better every time you see it. The industrial part and the rings is just genius. Music perfect too Proud to be British
Euphoric, uplifting and certainly one to stir ones imagination. Underworld put the GREAT back into Great Britain's 21 century music development. A modern day anecdote to all that is Simon Cowell and his dreadful output. Respect to Underworld, Danny Boyle, artists and volunteers of London's Olympic opening ceremony. Proud Brit :)
This is actually my favourite song at the moment....Which is really weird because I never usually listen to music with no lyrics. I just think this is an amazing piece and I couldn't stop listening to it even if I wanted to.
Mate, as a Scot myself I have been pro independence all my adult life. After Danny Boyle's ceremony I finally understood the concept of Great Britain. I get it now, all of us, together. If we can stick together as a people, not as governments, then there is great hope for us. I now consider myself a British citizen.
Awesome music........so dramatic i think it summed up the industrial revolution that happened in the uk, and the solo drummer was flaming fantastic, i am very proud to be born on this isles of wonder :)
He did in my mind, too. I was glad that they kept cutting back to him, looking like he was surveying all his work had done. It made a great impact on the segment, since it was his speech that kickstarted it. Branagh did a great job.
Nice to see that music so fulfilling could emerge in today's time. Really, there is something about this soundtrack that is truly compelling and special. Its essence is absolutely stunning, powerful, and so emotionally-driven that tears emerge from the eyes, even after multiple exposures. Most assuredly, this is one of the most dignified and inspirational soundtrack that has ever been heard and will remain so for the years to come. I shall never forget it. Greetings from Canada, ~Trav.~
Thanks mate. The feedback we get from most from across the pond is 'what the hell was all that about?" It did make us feel proud, I thought the spectacle and music wasspot on. And the Queen being involved? I cried!
That was one of the best opening ceremonies! I was especially moved by the industrial revolution part. Very well put together Danny Boyle. What an amazing Performance Evelyn! Wouldn't be same without this piece of music!
This part was so amazing.. My jaw was open the whole time.. All those dancers and volunteers deserve a ginormous round of applause!! So amazing!! Perfectly captured the Olympic spirit.
SCGHTV, I don't care about sports didn't watch any of it. I turned on the opening ceremony out of interest and was floored by the most incredible TV spectacle I have ever seen. Am I any the poorer for the cost of the Olympics? No. For me it was worth the opening ceremony alone. Money comes, money goes, but memories can stay with you forever and enrich your life. I will never forget the Industrial Revolution segment of the opening ceremony.
London could never match what Beijing did so they tried a different route and it worked beautifully. I actually watched this on a plane coming back to England and started clapping when the rings were forged as I was so engrossed into the ceremony. Woops.
I'll hold my hands up and honestly say I thought it was going to be a waste of time and money... "Why the hell do we want the Olympics?"..... I know this sounds dramatic but the London Olympics opening was the best thing I ever saw in my life. The music was phenomenal

In loving memory of Queen Elizabeth II (April 21st, 1926 - September 8th, 2022)
She will be missed but never forgotten, resting well forever in peace.
Astonishing. Truly astonishing. The Brits do it again!!!!!
As a Scot too, I have always considered myself British and this years Olympics brought us all together and further affirmed why I am proud to be both Scottish and British. Long may it remain like that

When creating a giant steampunk-industrial town in minecraft, this is the song that keeps me going.

Hypnotic, Haunting, Emotive, Brilliant!
This song gives me chills. Absolutely inspirational.
