- We review the fully matured Lotus Evora GT, following in the footsteps of the Evora S, 400, Elise, and Exige. The car is at the peak of what they can do so we can discuss the good and bad of ownership and all of the technical details. Whether you are in the market for a Porsche, Supra, BMW M4, GT500, or track day cars like the Ariel Atom this may be worth your time.

My Evora S was a daily driver for 3 years in the UK, commuted 60 miles a day, several track days and loved every minute. Not a single break down VS Range rover, BMW and Audi which have all cost me a fortune to fix and keep on the road. I also sold it for what I paid with an extra 3 years/ 25k wish extra miles on it. Awesome things. It was also great for my son (6 months-3 years) in the rear seats.
Trying to get in a 410 GT Sport at the moment in the UK but prices staying high.
Good luck sir, the newer version sound the bees knees. I love the clean uninterrupted sound of the motor and am a card carrying hater of the burble pop bang exhausts everyone has in the last 8 or so years. I personally blame the Jaguar F-type for starting that trend, it was exciting then until everybody was doing it and now its obnoxious and obscures the notes of the exhaust at every part of the rev range. I have always rooted for Lotus and I hope that they get to continue making cars well into the future.
Lotus cars (except the 06 Elise) are pretty rock solid. All Toyota parts, easy to find.
That said, particularly in regards to the Elise, the clamshell is an absolute bitch to order and replace if someone cracks or damages your bumper.
One bumper hit and you have to take off the whole entire body paneling of the entire car since it's all one piece
Brilliant cars
I'm 19 and have been looking at an evora so freaking long. This was good insight. I am ni longer worried about the family thing.. if I Get a 2+2, then I can kart the kids around
Prices are high on everything here.. £1.40 for a litre of fuel, so let's hope it's not that thirsty.
Nah guy, this is a primary car. I usually ride my bicycle everywhere. Anyone who says that the Evora is harsh needs to harden up
Exactly. I daily drove a 30 year old and not previously loved '72 Corvette for 10 years as my only car. Plenty of people daily motorcycles. Who the hell wouldn't want to drive this every day??
@@sidefx996 exactly. If I didn't ride bicycles, my SV650 could get me wherever just fine
I think it's not so much that it can't be a daily. It can definitely be a daily reliable car. I think it's moreso the possibility of the body getting wrecked. It's basically one complete shell. It will be hard to source replacement parts and not as many dealers anymore.
🎯
I daily-drive a Lotus Elise. I find it hard to believe you couldn't daily-drive this: it's clearly much more refined.
I've been driving an Elise S1 for 20 years now. Never, ever ceased to make me smile ... never, ever, didn't start. Always made people happy and I appeared to join a club by proxy and made new friends. Has been reliable. That's all I can tell you from my experience. 👌
I've been dreaming of and saving for an Evora 400/GT for about 4 years now. Fast tracked paying off my student loans and kept costs down to build up my savings. This summer when I finally get a house with a garage... fingers crossed.
Go for it now they're stopping production this year there's sure to be special editions reliesed
Thank you for paying off your student loans and not letting the tax payers cover the tab lol
Buy a 2017 with less than 20k miles for about 1/2 price of the new for exactly same car as 2020/21. There are plenty of them around if you live in CA or AZ, or are open to having it shipped on a transporter.
Now just wait for the Emira to come out. The Emira starts at 80,000$. That is going to drive the prices of Evoras down! Its also alot nicer than an Evora lol.
@@ttoommssmmiitthh It really isn't. It's more Porsche-like, which is not what Lotus stands for.

I've been a real fan of Lotus since the day I went to a Road & Track event at Laguna Seca. There was a Ford GT, Ferrari F430, Porsche GT, Lamborghini Gallardo, Dodge Viper, Corvette ZO6, Porsche Turbo S and Lotus Elise.
It was a terrific opportunity to drive this sports cars on a historic track. My favorite in this order was the
Ferrari F430, the Lotus and the Z06. The Lotus was the lightest best go cart handling vehicle there. It was being used by the driving school at Laguna Seca because they handled so well and had the Toyota drive train which was bullet proof. Know a guy with the Evora 410...fantastic sports car.
How can you not mention the Ford GT??

I bought a 2021 Evora GT two weeks ago, had 1,060 miles on it, black with sick gold rims. I was looking to buy an old 1990s Esprit Turbo, always loved them, rare, unique. I stumbled across the Evora, had never even heard of it or seen one and I live in Miami, COOLEST car I had ever seen, the styling, then read over performance, and price at $100k, I bought the car 2 days later without ever seeing it, driving it, was at dealer about an hour away, delivered it to me. In last 20 years I have had boxster, 911, C5 vette, and 2006 Aston Martin Vantage first year it came out. Nothing compares to the Evora, got on empty expressway, floored it up entrance ramp, seconds later 110 I looked down was doing 110, thought I was going about 80!!! Doing 100mph in this car feels as smooth, stable, under control as if you were going 50, handling simply unbelievable. I never put my windows up, because The sound of that engine and exhaust even at 30 mph is greatest sound I have ever heard. I feel bad for every guy with a Porsche or even Ferraris, because they probably never even knew about an Evora, and spent 2-3x as much for their “sports” cars that everyone has in Miami, that my $100k Evora equals or exceeds, and has styling that just screams bring it on in your automatic Ferrari.
Welcome to the cult of happiness 🙂
I have 35k miles on my '17 Evora 400 - I absolutely use the car as a daily and it works perfectly for that. It's such a divine driving machine, absolutely for the drivers...
I did my part...got mine a couple months ago to replace my Elise. It’s simply amazing.
Isn't the exhaust subdued??
i have test driven an Elise. Is the Evora as much fun to drive? Or is it less visceral?

Man, I am enamoured by this car. I really hope that with Geely's funding, Lotus's next cars will maintain the Evora's unique spirit.
Until they start selling them for $59,999 in China.
Nope they are working on a completely unobtainable $$$$$$$$$ electric hypercar pos
Yes. Let's just put our hopes into a Chinese company.
@@FXIIBeaver Considering how it’s been years since the Chinese bought Lotus, it is what it is.
But at least it isn’t like SAIC’s ownership of MG. Geely funded Volvo and allowed them to do whatever they wanted, allowing for Volvo’s resurgence, so wouldn’t you hope for them to do the same thing with Lotus?
@@LawrenceTimme They’re also working on a gasoline-only sports car to be slotted between the Exige and Evora, known as the ‘Type 131’. With components provided by Volvo & Geely.
The POV shots + accompanying audio are just PERFECT. Way to do this car justice.
Love my Evora 400, bought new in 2017, minimal issues and just magic to drive. Night and day different feel than my Porsche Boxster S, so much more connected yet the ride quality isn’t any more harsh than the Porsche. Finely, the Evora is just gorgeous, from almost any angle. Every car enthusiast needs to own a Lotus at least once in their lives.
Come to think of it: This should have been the template for the new Honda NSX.
Yes, mid engine V6 with forced induction, and much simpler and cheaper than the current NSX lol.
The C8 Corvette also does what the new NSX should have done.
Toyota should of just bought them since they use their motors.
This could easily been made to be the MK5 Supra.

They think Lotus cars are over priced because of the HP. They don't get that the car is super light and the HP is more than enough for the price. If Lotus cars were 500+ HP they would start at 150k

I have a 2017 yellow 400 6sp used for short fun drives only. The outrageous sound and manual makes it fun even in normal traffic. But, you will find any road to hear the engine scream at redline while feeling like a supercar. Even for a few minutes. The thrill lasts until your next drive. You should have a second car for normal driving. Or a bicycle after your license is suspended. It gets a lot of attention, which is good and bad. Servicing costs will scare you, but it’s reliable and well built. One drive will hook you.
I have an Evora 400. Absolutely brilliant drivers car. Totally analog. Nothing drives like it. The comments on Porsche are spot on too. Evora GT is the ultimate Evora, just more track than road if that’s your thing. The 400 is road & track. Drive one, you definitely won’t look back!
100% correct. I have 2017 Evora 400 manual. Sweet thing. I like it better than my new C8.
My really good friend owned a naturally aspirated Evora drove the shit out of it. Thing was definitely confidence inspiring.
It's sad because the porsche 911 is the cliche sports car for the around 100k mark. The 911 is such a spectacular car that so many buyers overlook the Lotus
@@johnbacon4997 Even more ironic is how much LESS reliable Porsches (engines in particular) are.
My want for the Evora has been strong ever since they came out but my financial responsibilities have always kept me from taking the plunge. Maybe one day it could happen. I do appreciate your review and for elucidating why these cars are so special.
I owned a ‘92 NSX, white with black top and had to sell it once the kids started to arrive. Nothing compared to it, as it was my everyday driver, but now that the kids are gone, I’m beginning to get the itch again, and it’d have to be this car.

I believe the Lotus Evora is one of the best looking cars ever made
What an awesome machine! Lotus is one of the last manufacturers to really understand how to build a real driver's car.
I believe this car is probably one of the only real driver based sports cars on the market, its simple, its fast and its fun. Chances are, you'll see these things in 30 years, running like new. Good luck trying to find a brand new M4 in 30 years.

11:43 you can see the throttle body actuate through the rear window. Neat!
Good eye
Yeah, that is a really cool detail. Good catch!
Good spotting but it's not the throttle body, it's actually the supercharger bypass valve.
Thanks for the correction mate!
Some people complain that the Evora has a Toyota V6 (2GR-FE). Lotus could've done a lot worse. They could've opted for GM's "High Feature V6", like the god awful 2.8T from the Saab Turbo X (276 hp). That engine is about as smooth as 24 grit sandpaper, laggy and heavy. Or a turbocharged 4 cylinder from literally any manufacturer. The 2GR-FE is at least smooth, refined and very reliable. It sounds pretty good too.
What a soundtrack! That alone makes this car special. Wow.

This review makes me want one all the more! Since I was a boy and saw Lotus cars at my local dealership, I appreciate the race heritage and the focus on lightness.
I own a 6cyl Boxster S but man, this engine note speaks to me.
I just want to say that the Flat 6 in your Boxster S is also pretty sonorous too...
I also own a 981 Boxster S with PSE and the sound is FANTASTIC. Even without PSE on the flat 6 sounds really good.
Its about damn time! This is what I'm saving for. This is the weekend car for everything. Fast blast through the mountains, hpde events, track days.

I have a Evora 400 and it is an absolutely incredible car. If you are a driver, you will love the experience. I smile from ear to ear every time I drive it from the moment I start it until I close the garage door, and typically for some time after. Lotus did a great job with the Evora. I hope they continue on this path. I have a feeling these cars will be quite valuable one day. They are so rare and so incredibly well done. Underrated for sure!
This is my dream car and my goal is to buy it in 3 years and I'll be in my 30's. I've wasted my 20's with no sense of direction, devoting my energy to a girl who never loved me. Bought her a present for $6,300 and she barely acknowledged it. This car speaks my personality. Manual transmission, mid engine, RWD, forced induction, light weight chassis and a minimalistic design for the purists. It is a flashy car but you have to know how to drive it unlike many modern imposter sport cars. It compliments the racing simulator I built in my nerd cave. I'd consider it an accomplish when I acquire it and it will be a middle finger to the depressing phase of my 20's. Today is 1/20/2023 and I'll come back and update this comment when I buy it.

Excellent! I had a Lotus Elise for 8 years and loved it. Kicking myself for ever selling it. I'm glad the Evora has finally reached its potential - great review!
Great review by someone who understands what the Evora can do. I'm on my second Evora, a GT410 Sport, both of which have been far more reliable than BMWs, Mercedes and Range Rovers that I have owned - once you drive an Evora, it feels like a drink of mountain spring water in a Coca-Cola world - everything else seems plastic in comparison. But if you want a car that your friends recognise as a status symbol, and don't care that much about the steering, get a 911. I love the Evora. I was gifted one of those exotic track days and among all my choices I (wisely in retrospect) selected the Evora. My thinking it was a small track and I would better benefit by the smaller and lighter car. I was on par with the normal track time my final lap, hitting over 140 on the main straight. Just picked up an Evora 400 last week. Thanks for your review. It is spot on with the driving feel. You can do all the research you want but once you get into the car and drive it you will know why people love these cars. That's what happened to me. I drove it for 400 miles straight after I bought it and didn't feel exhausted at all. It's the only car that matches or possibly exceeds the original NSX (my weekend car).

The Camry Engine is the main reason I would buy one. It's reliable, and the engine parts are cheap and easily able to be fixed or replaced. There won't be a shortage of mechanics who could fix a problem.

I've driven past a few of these Evora's around the city with my passengers, who are pretty knowledgeable on cars, that think they have just seen a new Ferrari.
"Hey look over there, that Ferarri.." "Nah man, it's a Lotus" "Ah.. right!"
Reminds me of when 'JayEmm on Cars' did an ownership diary series with his Evora 400 when he started his youtube channel few years ago 👌
Why does everybody make such a big deal about the size of the Evora’s back seat? It’s actually plenty for a couple of kids. My biggest complaint with the coverage of the back seat is this: They don’t all make the same constant jokes or critiques of the back seats in the 911, or other 2+2 sports cars with tiny back seats, and there are a lot of them.
That exhaust note sounds phenomenal!!!
My favorite Camry trim level.
Awesome review! There aren’t any full reviews on this car that are done professionally. Excellent job!
This car seems so special, I may do a review on it as well. Thanks for the inspiration!
Love how the Evora has evolved.
My dream car is a 400s . I love the 2GR FE engine so much in my modified NA camry. I also own sw20 and planning to 2grfe swap in the future. The sound of this v6 is so good
