Never mind the smile on Harry’s face, that review had me smiling from beginning to end. I’ve had two Lotuses new. I wasn’t sold on the Evora when it first came out, but it certainly looks like it has matured into something that demands attention. That sound is incredible. 1330 kilos is featherweight compared with its competitors and it seems it has a lovely gear change now. Damn. Food for thought.
Being a Norfolk boy I am very fond of Lotus, and remember seeing the Evora when it was unveiled at the 08 Motor Show. I wasnt blown away by it back then, mainly because I really wanted a new Esprit, and with a power figure of 276bhp, it was only 10bhp up on a Golf R - hardly breathtaking. However, when seeing one parked on the road several years later, I could appreciate the styling more, and feel that, particularly with the more recent power outputs, which, combined with it's lightness, give it low-end supercar performance, it is a worthy successor to the Esprit - which never had huge amounts of power, and most of it's life was very low. But it's not all about speed, far better to enjoy the journey than merely arrive first. And this video confirms thats what its about, it would be demolished on a track by anything by McLaren of Ferrari (which would cost 2-4x as much), but with its proper manual and light touch traction, is likely far more fun on the roads, not to mention something you would probably feel able to drive much more readily.
Looks like a lost gem, rediscovered! So glad that Lotus have continued to develop the Evora. It may not be as robust as a Porsche RS, but it's a lot cheaper and, more importantly, Lotus will actually sell you one! Thanks again Harry for a very enjoyable video, and for reminding everyone that Lotus is still alive and kicking (and still making wonderful drivers' cars).
I completely forgot about the whole Geely thing, hopefully it'll prove to be a positive influence on the company much like they've been on Volvo. Great vid Harry, looking forward to the next one.
My favourite vid from Harry so far. How refreshing for a car test that he doesn't bang on about the ifotainment system (who gives a s***!) - looks fab, sounds wonderful, drives brilliantly and puts a huge smile on Harry's face - drink your coffee when you stop for a breath!! Fantastic!

That car and video has restored some faith in modern sports car, manual, decent sound and a fantastic drive. Can't and never will be able to afford one but nick to know it exists. Great video.
14:28 I've always been amazed at the sound of these Lotus engines as they pass by. Taking the most reliable blocks in the world made by Toyota, and then developing the heads to such an extent they sound comparable to racing engines.
Sweet baby Jesus. I want one of these so bad. It's honestly amazing the Evora has managed to stick around for so long as Lotus is rarely the first pick for the types of folks that could afford one. If I had the money I would buy one for sure. It's safe to say we're gonna miss these when they're gone.
"blimey arr'y" were going to have to redesignate the L.O.T.U.S acronym from Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious to....Lots Of Torque Utterly Stupendous !!!!!
People talk about the sounds that different cars make, how intoxicating they are, be it an I4, F4, V6, I6, F6, V8 or V12. This car TRULY sounds amazing. At least to my ears. Also, kudos to your microphones.
A great video. It shows how capable the Evora is - and how Lotus really needs to up its PR game - the car is a gem that's in its latter development forms has been cruelly ignored. Not all 100k sportscars have to come from Stuttgart and Lotus's brand presence needs heightening amongst the millennial generation. It would be interesting if Lotus could give you one of these on a short term loan to see how it stacks up on a day to day basis.
I enjoyed that so much. One thing that always irks me somewhat though is that how the rear seats are always completely dismissed as pointless. These seats are ideal for children up to 10 generally and have come in handy many times for when I take out my son and a friend in my Evora. As Harry pointed out even at 6'2 he needed the seat moving forward which gives a person behind leg room. Great review though Harry!!
Agree with your comments, I forgot to mention the rear seats, which was annoying.. I see them more as emergency rear seats, rather than usable seats for long trips, which is the same as 911 rear seats. This is also a useful luggage space for bags, coats and the like. One of my grumbles with the Cayman is you really miss that easy access 'rear seat' space you get in a 911 and that's the same with this Evora. Great you're enjoying your Evora too! Thanks for watching
Great review. The smile says it all. Owning and running pure-bred drivers’ cars is often a pain the neck and wallet in my experience (at a considerably more modest budget) but absolutely worth it on the right road and right day. If I had the budget an Evora would be definitely near the top of the list...
lol.. Great video Harry, really enjoyed it. Your smile said it all. Lotus is all about the driver engagement and I think she delivered that comprehensively. Keep up the great work.
It turns out that these reviews become a lot more nerve wracking if you've just bought one of these! I had to go IPS due to not having enough limbs for the manual, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think the cost isn't really that big a deal, mine has ended up just over six figures but the actual cost of owning the car in depreciation I don't anticipate to be that high due to strong residuals, and it's not like I'm putting it down all at once anyway. 50/50 finance for the win! Many thanks Harry, wonderful review as always!
That glorious exhaust note of that car! WOW. From a supercharged Toyota V6. Wonderful. One of my all time dream cars. One of the few "reachable" supercars on the planet. Gotta start saving the pennies.
Ahhh... that V6 snarl! Alfista, V6 fan here - I'd very much like to own an Evora. Oh, and I don't mind the simplicity of the interior or controls; it seems right for this car not go go into big screens and loads of electronics.
Just saw one of these on the road, what a machine. Great review and sets the car in proper context. People grumble that this is a Camry engine but that is just like calling a Lotus Twincam a Cortina engine. As ever, thank you Harry.
You really sense how all the Alpine aftermarket stereos or plastic A/C twist-knobs in the world don't matter at all, when you have a nice and engaging drive. And that noise..! Would really love to drive one. Well done, Harry!
The problem is what do you compare the car with...the 400 was smoother with a nice armrest on the door..and better sound insulation...you can can find ex demo 2017/18 cars with low mileage for £68k I have a 2018 410 Demo at £76k and I have sold my 911T for and kept £10k...I think it’s far superior car to 718S I mean better handling, faster , and better sound...Porsche has much nicer cabin...and a new 911 is £105K with a few options....as stated I am coming from a 911T and am more than happy with Evora, I hope more people test drive them
I was looking at a 911T or a Spyder but then the GT4's & Spyder's held their money for much longer than I anticipated. The 911T was also just out of budget so I've ended up with a Vantage Roadster 20k cheaper than a GT4 or Spyder at the same year... not the same car track driving wise etc but god it feels old school, but cool old school!
Chris I agree I recently came into some money due to the passing of my Father, I today drove. 2018 V12 Vantage Manuel Box...I have offered £8 k below the asking price..I don’t expect it to appreciate...but am fairly confident it will settle then hold value...it sounds amazing and I will happily keep it for weekends and I hope as a reminder in this coming Electric age of analog passing..so I celebrate your choice
@@alanwayte1688 Apparently the V12 (none S) manual is the best one to get for your money at the moment so I think you've made the right choice. Of course if you can get an S within your budget then I would say do it but the standard V12 has depreciated enough now to be an awesome car to have. I wish I could have stretched for a V12 myself but again too far out my budget. Hopefully the next car can be a step up to the V12 :D
I only can afford it due inheritance...I am very very fortunate to now have a 4 car garage so happy days....I am so happy with the Evora I can’t describe how good it feels so so much quicker on the 14 mile B road I use than my M4 I know totally different cars but wow..so capable
Here we are again, I’m in from work and had a beer and a wonderful meal.....and I’m now sitting down to another fabulous treat from Harry. Compulsive viewing again , thanks H.
That noise! How does this Toyota engine sound so amazing? Especially considering it wasn't even developed to be a performance engine. I listen to the V6 vacuum cleaner in the Ford GT and I'm astounded at how it sounds so much worse. Lotus is simply the best. They make the absolute best of everything they have.
Even though they are common Toyota engines. Lotus use their own ECU and tunes. They also use much lighter flywheels etc. They may alter them internally in some ways as well, they did on the old Elises.
Yes it is. I drove one about 400 miles last week. Me and a few friends thought it sounded like a sport bike / Hayabusa engine. That sound paired to the looks of the Evora, nice sight driving by.
Thank you, Harry, for this review. I was wondering why it took you so long to review this iconic Lotus product, which won Evo's PCOTY title when it came out in 2009. Strangely enough, motoring journalists seem to have mostly ignored it ever since, through its multiple evolutions. Say what you like about Lotus being a small company, not a year went by since 2009 when they didn't add a feature or a model to the range. S, IPS, GT4, 380, 400, 410, 430. Even you seem to be only just discovering it. It would have been nice to hear a bit about its history. For example, the earlier models had much smoother aethetics, a different-looking and more bespoke interior. Also, that this is the 'extreme' version, and that if you want more creature comforts you can get them, making it a useable car, with still the most rewarding and sharpest handling on the market. Anyway, your real-world and non-scripted reviews are always winners, and this is no different. This is the closest we can get to actually driving the car.
If you're going watch only a few seconds of this video, then go straight to 21:48 and close your eyes. And when that's over, play it from the start. Superb video Harry.
It doesn't have a stupid farting and crackling exhaust. Amazing. (It's still a bit too raspy and metallic to my liking but still amazing) Having a proper switch to change the climate controls and such is a huge plus. Touch screens suck.
@@EvoraGT430 do you own one or know people that do? Heat soak, blown suspension and transmission gears, fried exhausts etc are not uncommon, which explains why there's a healthy aftermarket supply chain for more robust replacement parts. Still, a beautiful car and pure brand, just a bit primitive in parts
The Evora is a gem. I have driven many drivers cars and it’s up there with the very best for driver dynamics and engagement. As seen through glass said…useable power…and can deal with all types of roads and conditions yet not in a sterilising manner like a BMW M, remaining totally engaging and fun…..people love them on the street….it’s a wonderful experience for the outlay…..someone once said to me that an Audi R8 was the everyday useable Ferrari…..not for me….the Evora is the everyday Ferrari…….
Dear Harry, thank you for another formidable review! I’m happy you love it! A Lotus Evora S automatic has been my daily driver since 2012, and it puts a smile on my face every day! The automatic makes a lot of sense in Belgian traffic jams. And an average driver cannot change gears as quickly as the automatic. Funny you talked about the sound of the Alfa V6 sound. I have likened the Lotus Evora S’s sound to an Alfa GTV6 I drove in earlier days. Simply an aural delight. Keep your super reviews coming Harry! Honest, knowledge-driven and you ooze positivity. Merry XMas!
COME on coco, dont slag the air con controls off......................the buttons and knobs "may be" old skool, but when your driving along at a fair old pace , (late for the circus") you DONT want to be LOOKING down at controls and taking your eyes off the road, NO, you want a good old fashioned KNOB, knobs do what they`re designed for, KNOBS work as they have worked for many many years, answer this simple question................if you didnt have a knob, would you miss it...................................................................................
100% agree. I hate touchscreens or those new haptic touchpads. I thought I would hate the iDrive in my BMW but it's pretty good and you can still grab a knob to adjust the a/c or stereo level.
Completely agree about touchscreen cs physical controls. My wife is so scared to look away from the road even for a second I have to navigate her fingers (up, left, etc) around the climate control in my Avantime if she is driving (as its on drivers side). You need to be able to glance where it is to get your hand there, and then control it without looking. However, the Evora could be improved by having climate control - as then most the time you don't even need to use the knobs!
The new front and other small styling changes have turned it into a nice looking car, at least compared to most of todays cars. I really rate Lotus highly for driving. Good luck to them. Nice review, Harry, as usual. Thanks.

Great video Harry I’ve been waiting to hear comments, what I’m amazed is how the 400 was so overlooked.
i've a early NA of these and I never ever tire from the noise behind you. absolutely sublime
Love the review, no nonsense, no trying to be funny/clever/smartarsed comments.
Brilliant keep it up!
Honest to god one of the best sounding engines I've heard in years. Great informative video as always, Harry!
Spot on with no punches held, one of the best reviewers on YT🛎
Great car, wonderful noise. One of the best kept secrets. Will be rare too in the future.
Fantastic!
This will become a highly sought for classic car in a few years. It’s just amazing and quite rare in the US
Wow the way she takes the bumps and corners! That’s proper chassis engineering, maintaining contact, control and comfort all the time!
No one can teach lotus how to make a car handle they are in a league of there own great review thank you.
Such a joy to hear his review! Look at him smile and laugh..says everything about the Evora
I'm a simple man, I hear an exhaust note that can be annotated as 'phwoar' and it turns the rainy Monday into a shining summer Sunday with beer on the beach. I hope Lotus stays around forever.
Mama told me when I was young
"Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day"
"Oh, take your time, don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You'll find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget, son, there is someone up above"
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can"
"Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied"
"And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't…
@@BobMonkeypimp Great lyrics from a classic song. Ronnie Van Zant and Skynard nailed it with this track.
That car and video has restored some faith in modern sports car, manual, decent sound and a fantastic drive. Can't and never will be able to afford one but nick to know it exists. Great video.
Always liked the looks of the Evora but WOW that GT410 sounds mega!!! good job capturing the sound perfectly :)
Harry hasn't lost his love of true drivers cars.
14:28 I've always been amazed at the sound of these Lotus engines as they pass by. Taking the most reliable blocks in the world made by Toyota, and then developing the heads to such an extent they sound comparable to racing engines.
Imagine what reworked internals would do for it.
I think that happened a couple of decades ago!
Your echoed Road and track
@R A don't throw your dummy out of your pram, it's meant as a JOKE, oh, did you get offended, I'm weally weally sorry
Thanks to Toyota😆😆😆
@alanrtment porter he he he....
The smile on your face says everything about that lotus they deserve more recognition for sure 👏
People talk about the sounds that different cars make, how intoxicating they are, be it an I4, F4, V6, I6, F6, V8 or V12. This car TRULY sounds amazing. At least to my ears.
Also, kudos to your microphones.
Let's not forget the awesome I5 or V10. But yes this is a damned fine-sounding engine. Not bad for "just a Camry engine" is it?
One of your very best videos. That engine note is everything I want in an engine note with big character.
What a fabulous sounding engine. The V6 has always been underrated as a great music soundtrack. As always, fantastic review Harry.
Best exhaust sound that I've come across on RUclips!
Love the double de clutching, my kind of driving.
Great review. The smile says it all. Owning and running pure-bred drivers’ cars is often a pain the neck and wallet in my experience (at a considerably more modest budget) but absolutely worth it on the right road and right day. If I had the budget an Evora would be definitely near the top of the list...
Analog driver's car. Nicely done, Lotus.
I have an IPS too. Great car, gear shift is pretty quick.
@@bluegblueg blueg! I've seen your car on PH, it looks brilliant!
@@leglessAlex Thanks
That glorious exhaust note of that car! WOW. From a supercharged Toyota V6. Wonderful. One of my all time dream cars. One of the few "reachable" supercars on the planet. Gotta start saving the pennies.
Ahhh... that V6 snarl! Alfista, V6 fan here - I'd very much like to own an Evora. Oh, and I don't mind the simplicity of the interior or controls; it seems right for this car not go go into big screens and loads of electronics.
When Harry gushes over a car....everyone take notice. That is an incredible sounding V6!
Best video I’ve seen in a long time from anyone! You captured it perfectly and incredible sound track 😁🤤 keep it up! 👍
Harrys enthusiasm is infectious. Love his vids.
What a sound. A beautiful car, well done Lotus 😀
Just saw one of these on the road, what a machine. Great review and sets the car in proper context. People grumble that this is a Camry engine but that is just like calling a Lotus Twincam a Cortina engine. As ever, thank you Harry.
When's the merchandise coming out? T-shirts and mugs printed with "and you'll join me later on some better roads"
How about "all about the drive" or "Carpet? Oh, no! Track times will be destroyed!"
and you'll join me later on some better roads .... good idea! Are
You really sense how all the Alpine aftermarket stereos or plastic A/C twist-knobs in the world don't matter at all, when you have a nice and engaging drive.
At this point this (really, the 400) is my dream car. I'm going to get one. Manual, 400, in the exact colour combo Harry is driving.
Always a blast to watch your videos, and Lotus is a small cool company. This is still a more fun car than a 1500++ horsepower Regera.
Love it when Harry gets excited! You go, Harry.
i would take this over the alpine any day of the week without a thought. These things sound amazing. look far better as well.
I'll take this over the Corvette C8, which looks like mostly a Silverado.
Always take the classic over something currently in production.
@@ShaunHensley uh yeah ok
Here we are again, I’m in from work and had a beer and a wonderful meal.....and I’m
now sitting down to another fabulous treat from Harry.
It was developed with performance in mind..same engine powers..Toyota Verona v6 SuperCharged...Australia and Asia markets Only
Even though they are common Toyota engines.
No turbine in the exhaust to spoil the noise. Very refreshing to the ears!
Watching this after the Emira launch yesterday.. Harry will love it 4 sure
at least the knobs will still work after 10 years...unlike screens :) Great review as always Harry, that Evora sounds good!
I love it how Harry takes these beautiful bits of exotica and thrashes them around his neighborhood.
I wish I lived in Harry's neighborhood.
Amazing. (It's still a bit too raspy and metallic to my liking but still amazing)
Having a proper switch to change the climate controls and such is a huge plus. Touch screens suck.
I hate those "stupid farting and crackling exhausts".
Just stumbled on this video. Dont know how I missed it. Great video Harry. The V6 noise is unbelievable.
I don't mean to name-drop or anything but I was in a Lancia Stratos the other day. lol ,, but seriously,, what an absolutely glorious noise.
Having ridden in friend's Exige 420 (?), I was amazed they get that sound out of a V6. Well done Lotus.
Love, love, LOVE this car...one of my all-time faves, with Toyota reliability, too.
Only Toyota ENGINE reliability. The rest can be fragile.
@@nessuno5403 Not really.

You know it's going to be a good week when you get a notification that Harry's uploaded a film to youtube 👍
New Harry on a Monday morning. Late for work, again.
Very proud of my V6 Camry!
@R A I don't suffer from low self-esteem.
Probably
Merry XMas!
2/3rds into video still wondering whats the point and then.....NOISE 14:21
Noise was at 0:01.
Yeah, I recently was in the bowling alley and they threw balls into a set of cones. What's the point, man? :D
All Tesla owners are secretly jealous
👍
@@LuigiRandazzo21 Tesla owners are not driving enthusiasts. They would never appreciate a true driver’s car.
I have never seen Harry mob on a car like this before. You can tell that lotus is crazy
Completely agree, save the ipads for Musk's ejunk.

The new front and other small styling changes have turned it into a nice looking car, at least compared to most of todays cars.
I really rate Lotus highly for driving. Good luck to them.
Nice review, Harry, as usual. Thanks.
