I hope you enjoyed the video, which car would you take?
GFWilliams exige all day long
Either! I think the Evora works better for me, can bring the dogs along :). Would be good to see which cars wins between the Evora vs a stock Exige, especially when looking at stock seats.
I would take the Evora! More 'usable' a bit but would costumized it for sure... I would try to make mine look like the GTE but updated and some more horses!
tuned to almost 500, upgraded seats and brakes and a GTE body kit
But not taking away the EXCELENT great taste you had on your Exige!! You made a desirable exige for me... Well done
Pretty good sounding cars compared to most of what is being produced nowadays
I dont think Lotus care about, or have to follow EU noise regulations :D
The Exige is my goal to which i‘m working towards. Seeing your car just made my goal so much more expensive, but so much more desirable, too😁👌🏻
Love your content!
This is why I hate my 911, the Germans have made it perfect, but it’s not fun, it doesn’t feel like an occasion When you drive it. Hence I’m going back to Lotus, for the Exige V6, after owning an Elise 220 before the 911.
The Exige is a proper drivers car, you’ll love it!
And what about something between? I mean cayman
Well the Cayman is just a better version of a 911, but artificially held back to fit in to a price gap :P
Same, just cancelled my 911 order for a 420 FE…. Pick it up soon…
I'm currently in a 997.2 PDK and cannot WAIT to get into an Exige instead. Porsche was fun, I won't miss it.
When I was swapping out my 350 I drove a 410 Evora and a 380 Exige back to back (from Strattons). I was sold on the 380 after less than a mile :) . I wasnt a fan of the seating position or the steering on the Evora but that doesnt detract from how good it is....its just sad that the Exige is just better. Well thats my opinion for what its worth. Great video by the way.
I think the Evora takes a little time to learn and understand the dynamics. The chassis is fantastic and not to be ruled out, but if you're after more of a race car experience the Exige is the way to go!
your exige is near perfection
Just found you. What a great review - breath of fresh air, honestly. It's your delivery - really like it. Hooked throughout - very informative, interesting to compare these two and actually get the nitty-gritty different feel of the two. Loved your car. Thanks for the insight. all the best. Seb
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Came to the video wanting an evora, finished the video wanting an exige 😍
As long as you can get in and out of it.
I went Exige 350 - Evora 400 - Exige 410 and you hit the nail on the head, the Exige is more of an event to drive, but as a 2nd car. The Evora could be used every day, if I could have just one car it would definitely be an Evora with fixed back seats (which is an option) to resolve the driving position
I found the Evora 400 seating position fine for my build/height, but I got mine with the back seats as I have a kid (soon to be two) and she fits perfectly fine back there. I can take the car to car shows and with my kid and wife in one car :^)
Great mod of your interior vents... any more details how / where you got those done? Cheers!
You are quite right, the Evora is the better and more balanced car. A bit slower, but who cares.
I can't agree with your "rubbish" comment about the seating position. For me it is absolutely perfect. I've driven 8 hours in it and still felt fresh.
Both great cars. I’ve owned 3 Evoras and only driven an Exige once. Obviously no question in my mind which car I’d take if given the option. And that has mostly been the case that I’ve observed-Evora owners don’t prefer an Exige and vice versa. It’s really just horses for courses . . . or I guess for jockeys. Forgetting about driving dynamics, what I love about the Evora is how it hits a sweet spot in terms of occasion or excitement. You can go grocery shopping in it and not feel like an idiot (as you might with more expensive exotics) and yet everywhere I drive, I leave a wake of head snapping and thumbs up. People approach to ask me questions about almost every time I take it out. Unfortunately the dealer network in the US (and Lotus’s own mismanagement) have really let the car down here in the US. Hopefully Geely resources will bring positive change. Great video-thanks for the content!
William Sarnecky this sums up my view on Evora vs Exige. I’ve had two Evoras and was sure the Exige would be the next car for me.. test drove one last week and whilst it was incredibly fast I was surprised just how much more uncompromising than my Evora. It was savagely fast though I must say! Got back in my Evora reassured that I have the right car for me.
@@DizzleTizzle83 I think you've both summed it up well, and I tried to get this across in the video. They're both great in their own ways, not everyone wants the same thing and it's a good thing that they both exist!
Wow. Yes. So, I owned a Lotus Elise (Federal) touring model 2007 and enjoyed it as a daily-driver in Colorado (yes, in the snow too). I loved how the rear would hop-out completely controlled and I could dial-it-in via steering inputs to control the rather slow drift in any direction; just pop the clutch, full throttle, and steer-in your drift (actually a power-slide). Super, SUPER controllable all day. A fearless little car.
I've toyed with the idea of the Elise SC which was discontinued here in the US in 2011 but ended up with a Corvette Grand Sport (supercharged) with magnetic ride-control. Sometimes I long for that true connection to the road the Elise gave me, but I'm afraid the Evora might be too.. refined.. like the Corvette is. I think it might be, though with probably a bit better feedback and steering than the Corvette. I really should get a last-year Elise SC... I really should.
Good review. Some would disagree about the seats. And ingress and egress on the Evora is ... waaaaay easier. You are OCD about the door handles, though - I much prefer them to the Exige's. The non-carbon boot on the Evora has gas struts.
very nice video, i had a evora s( modified ) now i have a exi380, which i think is one of the best car in the world.
Enjoyable watch. Very late to the party. It would be the Exige from your comments it seemed more fun. I ran a Renault Clio 172 Cup for 100k miles and whilst it wasn't an expensive car it felt special for my budget & I loved how nimble & light weight she was! Surely a gas strut would not be a difficult retro mod from a specialist / manufacturer! Lack of light from headlights at night would drive me crazy though! A Lancia Stratos works rally light set-up might be the answer! Both cars sound fantastic.
Lovely comparison of both of them. They are both looking so modern to me as having an Exige S2 myself
S2 Exige ✌️
Great video! What you say about the Evora’s pendulum rear swing out desires is incredibly pronounced and something I’m surprised very few ever mention. Having had several Porsches in the past, with the last two being 997.1&.2 GT3s I was blown away by how much more the rear on the Lotus steps out…and keeps stepping!
I like the flyby comparison and the rainy weather. Lovely video.
Glad to see you haven't gone pink yet! - The matching interior looks too good!
I am 50, think i will go for the evora both beautiful thanks for the review.
The Exige, just, because it’s so raw and light, but I’m intrigued by what you said about the Evora chassis. We’re going to miss this generation of Lotus cars when they’re gone. Ps I’m 6’3 and I had enough headroom in an Evora 400.
Craig Yirush that’s great to hear! I’m also 6’3 and my dream car is the Exige, while some people say that tall people won’t fit, I have heard it isn’t to hard👍
@@nicholasumsted2731 I've been told you can fit Exige seats in the Evora and it gives a lot more room. Or in the earlier Evora you can get the Recaro seats which are much nicer.
GFWilliams I love the Exige which is sad because they don’t sell them in the states. Guess I’ll wait 25 more years to buy my dream car!
An exige is my dream car. Yours is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing
Guess I’ll have to settle in on my Veloster N for now
@GFWilliams epic review and really enjoyed your take on the differences of the two vehicles! Living in the US we only get the Evora GT. I am in the market and am leaning toward the Evora GT but the closest official dealer to me from DC is in Pittsburgh 250 miles away and there aren’t a plethora of Lotus dealers around. Therefore, I am hesitant to pull the trigger for the simple fact that accessibility to support and service is limited. Anyway, I think I am probably a few months away from making a decision on the Cayman GT4 or the Evora GT. My head is telling me to go for the GT4 yet my heart yearns for the Evora. First world problems mate!
that black surounding the front window, I had that painted in bodycolor (silvergrey) on my s2 and it looked way better then the black, makes the car more modernimo. Should try it.
Fabulous review, liked & subscribed! I own a 220Sport Elise and do think to add an Evora 410Sport alongside as a daily and your conclusion pretty much confirms my thinking.....😄🤛
The lack of gas struts on the carbon fibre bootlid is the main rear I've stuck with the standard lid on my Evora 400.
The Exige Cup 380/430 rear clamshell gets some rear vents out from the rear wheels, although not as nicely integrated as on the Evora GT models. Also find the later twin light arrangement looks a bit more modern than the original Exige V6 light arrangement, although know a lot of people don't like it.
I personally agree with you!
I'm still running an S2 Exige, komotec infused she has 290 bhp and scales in at 940kg that sense of occasion is definitely there.
Both sound amazing and I like the simple rear end of both cars way more than the try-hard overcomplicated Audi S3 vents and scoops etc. Evora seems more like one to take the girlfriend away in for a trip, Elise or Exige for fun. Ps I currently have a Porsche 964 a 2016 AudiS3 but must get a lotus one day!!
Thanks George, interesting review. I prefer my Exige S too. Can't wait to buy the next model up and get more hp. I like the "no" power steering and love the feel of the road which the car gives me. The McLaren 540 for example is all power steering with no road feel which I loathe. Give me an Exige any day. Thanks for the review. I've driven the Evora and reached the same conclusion. Bigger is not better, but a more powerful Exige is. So I'm sticking with the Exige. I can't believe how customised yours is. You must have spent an enormous amount of money on it. Oh well, if you enjoy it good on you. Thanks George. See you next time. Regards, Jim.
I'm glad you enjoyed the review, I love my Exige. More power doesn't necessarily mean more fun. You get used to whatever power you have...
Drove a standard racer & a 410 & they were both amazing to drive 👍🇬🇧
Great video. I’m glad you mentioned driving position; few reviews do. I needed a big steering wheel spacer in my 2-Eleven and Elise to get comfortable - it’s a never ending problem with Lotuses.
Just a note in your interest: you may want to edit out the bit where you’re sliding around, for obvious reasons.
Would be interested to see a comparison with a Cup 250/Elise 220 as well. Some people prefer them to Exiges apparently.
It's on my to do list, along with 3-Eleven and a 430 Cup at some stage.
Had a heavily modified Exige S2 miss it all the time so I am leaning to an Evora GT from my current Quadrifoglio. I wish we could get the new Exige stateside. Such a shame.
Nice one George, really enjoyed this. Head room is a massive problem for me in a lot of cars. Story of my life! Hope you’re well mate.
Glad you enjoyed it, I'm really good thanks, hope you are too!
Excellent report! My preference is the Exige as well.
I would have the evora,as i prefer the looks and the every day usage, i sure you can modify the seats if your a tall person😊
Nice! I think Lotus EVORA 410 is more amazing than EXIGE 460, anyways thanks for sharing!
Interesting that you say say the car has a ‘modern’ digital dash. I remember in the early 80’s the Vauxhall Astra had a digital dash.
you exige is near perfection or up there at top mods but hey don't deny the fact that evora is a better car. love your vid. thanks
An Evora is a tweener car. Its a Lotus but you wouldnt know it by the dimensions and seating position. It's a sports car but it's geared like a 90s bmw 5 series. It appears sharkish and darty but it reliquishes and regains yaw not unlike pendulum. The truth is its the closest anybody will come to know what a supercharged 1st generation honda nsx would've felt to drive.
A bit late to the party I know, engine sits further forward in the Evora so it's more mid engined than Exige where the engine is closer to the rear axle. Beware on off camber roundabouts when damp!
Great video! Love your Exige. Want one now.
Thanks!
What happened at 17:13 where you were explaining in details about the tail of your own Exige before it was CUT off??? I would have liked to hear the rest of your opinion. Jeez!
You should take a factory tour man you would lv it. It's a shame I cart do it myself I would if thay would let me but you would get alot more understanding & reasoning on why things are the way the are and the lotus way of things witch all makes sense when you understand why
I’ve always wanted to own a Lotus, but at 6ft5 I’ve sat in a couple and never felt anywhere near comfortable. I thought the Evora had more headroom 😢
Great review of two great cars from Lotus. Well done :)
Interesting what you say about the evora front end grip. I was watching an emira video on track and the guy heavily criticised the front end grip. People were saying it wasn't on the right tyres though so who knows. I struggle to believe they didn't get it right on the Emira if it's right on the Evora. I really dislike the stock dash so it's cool to see what you've done with it and the digital display. I'd much prefer that as it seems hard to justify the kind of money they want for such a crappy outdated interior design. In some videos i've seen the supercharger sound is absolutely ear shredding and would drive me crazy - seems alright in yours though.
If the front of the Emira pushes, I guarantee it's just a setup thing. Lotus are quite conservative with setup, but the cars have lots of adjustability to set them up how you like.
Very enjoyable George. Nicely done.
Great vid! What would a GFWilliams spec Exige cost?
Always Great rewies from You👍.
I would Not have a instance of a doubt and take Your wonderful Exige.
Ps.I m in the proxes of purchasing a Exige 350 and i could get also one car that has your Komotec Ex460 spec .
Could You give me a short advice on the main plusses of the Ex460 and if You had some problems with it.
Would really thankfull if You would advice me,because its the last Real Drivers Car hat of my life and i cannot allow me mistakes.
Thanks in advance
I actually find the exige slightly "ugly" compared to both the elise and the evora, but I am sure you are right, it is probably the better car, although from other reviewers, the evora stock to exige stock is a quicker car, see Dr P. for example. The evora at the back as you say, is one of the best looking cars there is, although the elise also looks good, but the exige looks odd, that large panel is too almost rectangular shaped. The side profile is also not as nice as the elise... there are just a few angles that are off and you can tell its a car that was never designed as one piece.
However, the 380 was one of the best cars I've driven, so cant imagine what your's is like. For me though, as I have to look at it everyday and so few drives you can really take advantage of the extra power, it would be an elise cup 250. If I wanted to watch 7-10k disappear every year, then an Evora would be next.
They are all good cars, but for the money the evora cant compete with the 911 of today and the elise *although I am buying one, is over priced in todays market. Still, you dont get a LOTUS thinking about money and logic!
i have no problem with my evora seating position , i love it everyday .
like the review. given you've got new clams, could you explore adding in Evora style back wheel vents ?
It’s entered my mind, but I think it’d be too big a job. Already have plenty to do and have to call it a day at some point
@@GFWilliamsnet yes fair point - its already a big project
Great review, just what i was looking for, my Noble is similar to your Exige and when i test drove the EVora I was left a little underwhelmed. Youve reinforced that I was right, think maybe an Exge GT410 with a trip to 111 might hit the spot
Much better to go direct to Komo-tec.
I'd love to have a go in a Noble one day, I think they're amazing cars and probably quite similar to the Exige.
@A World Under A Spell now that Seriously Lotus are a Komotec dealer, I’d go there for anything Komotec related. I just personally wouldn’t want to go to H11.
14:08 - 14:35 no you are not OCD you have a strong eye for design. A bit like the Italians…😊
...had an evora S .....and i try an exige 350.
It blows my mind.
The evora is a great car but the exige is superior !!!!! No doubt.
Great comparison. It that GRP carbon on your dash? also, I love the quilted dash top. I'm considering something like that for my Elise. Did you have a local person do that?
It's not GRP carbon, I wish it was as it would have been a lot better quality if I'd got it from Greg!
Unbelievably sad the exige isn’t offered in the states. It’s truly a dream of mine. I really like the Evora, but I love the exige
Never will now, or the S3 Elise as they are ending production this year.
@@BlatentlyFakeName yeah such a shame
Interested in comparing this to a 2ZZ MR2 mk3? Cool vid!
Hey would like to know thr camera and lens you use for your photography, cheers
excellent video, what is the exhaust on your exige ?
Great video! Could the rear behaviour differences be caused by alignment, rear toe settings between the two cars?
Of course it’ll play a part in it, mine has more and therefore when you lean on it a bit more in cornering it’ll grip a bit harder. Of course I can only compare the Evora as it is when given to me, on factory settings :)
What modifications did you do to your Exige Transmission for it to take 450 hp...? Nice Vid btw
Komotec
It seems to me that Lotus has had to make car decisions that go contrary to their original vision. Their choice has been to go out of business or make compromises and cars that will sell. The Exige is a better driver's car than the Evora (I have an Evora 400 - which is plenty for me) The Evora 400 and later models are better driver's cars than the new Emira. (Which I could get, but I like my Evora 400 better.) I recently saw a Lotus Emira ad for Santa and how the Emira was a faster ride for him to deliver his presents. I noticed in the ad's car showroom that there was a late model Exige. Santa got the much slower Emira, lol
Shame that the new Elise and Exige are not available in the US.
The sound 🤤😁
If you want more shape on the rump of your car then just buy the rear clamp from the Exige Cup 430.
I could do, but it's still not sculpted like the Evora rear end, it more just looks like they cut holes it it than actually designed it.
Where did you find these air vents ??? I am also looking for similars my lotus
I bought them on eBay. Bit of warning, they’re not a direct fit and I had to modify a lot of stuff to make them work.
As a Lotus fan and someone that can't afford either these cars myself.
How would you say these 2 compare against notably cheaper rival performance machines?
Perhaps say Focus RS/Merc A45/370z/Camry TRDs etc...?
@Frank White
That sounds an encouraging answer. Gives Lotus some genuine owners value.
Lotus often seems to get a hard time in the media being constantly compared against usually much more expensive Porsche's
@@peebow1000 A lot of todays hot hatches and sports cars are actually very quick, and accessible performance. They're engineered so even the worst drivers can get in and exploit all of the performance. A Lotus is more about driver feel than it is about just performance, it's for people who love driving, people who accept compromise and for people who want something more interesting than just a hot hatch which goes really fast ;)
@@GFWilliamsnet totally agree...
@@GFWilliamsnet
The 'feel' of a car barely seems a justification for the fairly premium cost of say a Lotus.
I'm gonna use the A45 hatch as the affordable benchmark here.
The Merc (in my Australian market at least), cost barely more than an Elise, but delivers 310kW. More power than most Evora's.
Though I'm somewhat guessing, the A45 will run into way more wear and tear problems being about 200kg more than even Lotus's heaviest machines. The Merc is notably taller as well, likely higher center of gravity. It dishes its power through a turbo 2 litre. Major turbo lag?
In a tight circuit i presume a Lotus would run some rings around the hatch.
I sadly couldn't afford any these cars (yet). So i can only speculate this.
As a life long Lotus admirer, it seems their strong points don't shine through in the media, hence probably why they struggle in sales.
But anyways, give it 15 yrs we'll all probably be driving electric network controlled Google 'egg mobiles'
Sound. The sound of the exhaust. Best part?
It's certainly up there!
I can't believe it doesn't have the racing paddles by the steering. Even Camry's have them. Glad to know the seats suck. Apparently they took more than just the idea of thr engine and train shaft from Toyota
Where did you find these air vents ??
so u want a handle with no recess?
How do the newer 410 and 430 fair on track with regards to noise? They seem.... loud!
They are too loud for most UK tracks.
Another great video.
Isn't the Quaiffe a helical diff? Might account for less drift mode.
My car also has a quaiffe LSD, the same as the Evora. It's more down to car setup and the chassis I think.
GFWilliams a 2 way diff will make the biggest difference for drift. The s15 Silvia has a similar diff to the quaiffe from factory but it gets junked by the drifters in favour of 2-way.
Loved the video would be good to race them both to see how much your modification helps
Unfortunately I didn't have a suitable place to do this, but it's not really fair to compare the performance which is why I focused more on what they feel like in the review. My Exige has 50hp more and a lot less weight (about 200kg). When we did some off camera tests it wasn't even close.
Lotus exige 430 next?
Great video.
Was this a recent video? What happened to the GB summer?
I picked the one bad day of weather to film...
GFWilliams Jealous, 90 oF and humid in Arkansas.
how big are you? I am 1, 92m. will I have problems in the exige / evora?
I'm 182cm - I think you may find it difficult, but Tillett seats help and the roof does come off the Exige.
Amazing cars
Mister Williams what is your height? You kinda look uncomfortable with the small roof gap
About 6 foot :)
@@GFWilliamsnet crap... Im 6 ft 2. I guess no need to save for a lotus if I dont fit in
@@TheOzcar17 I'm really comfortable with my Exige and if I didn't have harnesses, I'd be able to have the seat further back which would give me even more space. Even more space in the Evora, just the seats are too thick. If you changed the seats, someone a lot taller would fit.
Do either have any rattles?
My exige goes through phases with rattles, whenever it gets bad enough I take the whole interior apart and rebuild it to stop them. Evora was pretty much brand new and not a single squeak or rattle, was bliss!
Excellent comparison. I like stupid too.
Lovely 😍🤩
Dear Petrolhead, when you define an Evora as a perfect daily you just get to the next level ! I'm also the kind of hardcore enthusiast capable of driving an Evora every day ! Thx for your sharing ! Definitely like the content of your channel! Suggestion: what about an episode on your experience with trackday ? Drive Hard, drive safe!
Exige all the way
evora has lsd?
💙
testing 2 lotuses in surrey on a rainy day.
200% british
too much britishness for me in a day
Haha you made a face every time you gave the exige the beans. The Evora couldn't do that.
I'd take the evora.
Certainly easier to get in and out of!
So many car shows come from England and they are for the most part useless. It's always raining! Wtf.
The ride height of the Exige doesn't look right
It’s set at 130/136mm chassis ride heights, the same as the Exige 430 Cup factory settings. I’ve tried lower and higher settings and these seem optimum for the damper.
Good glad your lights are rubbish, on my Elise S2 I can't see anything at night. True about Lotus letters on Evora, too high.
Apparently the S3 lights are even worse than the Elise S2. Hard to believe I know!
I don't think you can properly judge any car while driving Cup 2s in the wet..
Who on this earth would want cruise control on a Lotus????
Exactly, lots of average speed zones and I do lots of miles. Cruise control is useful and adds no weight :)
Th mirrors on the Evora suck. It looks like my 98 Camry
Shame that Evora is really ugly compared to Exige. It looks like front and rear are from different cars.
