  • Hi! Last time I sold my old Africa Twin - XRV750 and bought this Red Piglet - XR400 :)
As you see, there is no ignition switch by default, but it is pretty useful switch during adventures, do I need to add one. See how to do it.

Going to do this to my Brothers XR650R. His Baja Designs on-off switch broke the lever off. Thanks for the video

You are welcome :) Good luck, I hope XR650 is similar to XR400 (besides cooling fan :D)

Nice job! I did the same job to my 1999 XR400, it´s a necessary upgrade!

Yes, it is nice to have and very cheap upgrade :)
1st level of bike anti-theft protection: ignition switch
10th level of bike anti-theft protection: ignition switch, immobiliser, disc lock, big chain
99th level of bike anti-theft protection: only kickstarter :D

Kickstarter still the best anti theft system ever... I also use a big lock with the sprocket and chain. They have to lift it to steal it. 😁

"Unfortunately" XR400 is easy to lift ... :D

Hello. I love yours and Marta's videos!
Is the speedometer and turn signals on your XR400 stock? Here in the USA the only XR400's I see for sale that have turn signals are aftermarket dual-sport kits. And I never see any with a speedometer like that. Do they have dual-sport models only in other countries? I have a DR350SE now, but I've always been interested in XR400's.

      Hi!
Speedometer is stock. Last time I only changed turn signals to LED and moved front turn signals to handguards, because they were hitting this acerbis tank.
Search in youtube "HONDA XR400 MOTARD 2007": Upside down fork, SM wheels, e-starter, lights, blinkers. Engine is painted black and there is no kickstarter :D
I like this XR400 - after Africa Twin 750 it is awesome to ride and I'm not afraid of it's weight. No idea how is stock XR - I have pumper carb and aftermarket exhaust. But this bike is missing neutral gear indicator and 6th gear.
DR350 looks for me like a better dual-sport bike. I would like to check how is DR with pumper carb and aftermarket exhaust :) Maybe in winter we will spend some $ to upgrade it :D

Hey Dawid. That sounds cool. I will look that up. :)
I know that many DR350 riders prefer the pumper carb. My cousin had the pumper on his first DR350SE. It felt really good and had quicker response than the CV carb. I prefer the CV carb on mine though for more fuel efficiency. Also, I hear the CV carb is less sensitive to large changes in altitude without having to change the jets.
Maybe I will just stick to DR350's since they come dual-sport from the factory. Plus I do love that 6th gear. :) Whatever you two do though, I'm excited for more videos.
      Thanks again,
      Happy riding!

What's funny is, cut the wires to the key and bike starts lol

Yes, that's true. This method works with many bikes, so as you see ignition switch is not super safe :)
I always use handlebar lock and brake disc lock.
Of course skilled thief can pick the lock without any problems... stay low in the bushes :D

Does it work with any bike ?
I wanna get a sports bike and fix it up
Would it be possible to remove the old one and simply add this one
Or are they not all universally compatible

I will want to get a yamaha yz 125 2 stroke can i add one to it?
    (It doesent have a battery)

Basically it is a duplicated kill-switch, so it works with any motorcycle with a kill-switch :)
When ignition switch is in off position then it works like a pressed in kill-switch - so bike won't start.

Any idea why mine gives spark with the key out on off position and with the key in and turned to on position it doesnt give spark? Basically mine is opposite and when i swap wires it still does then Same

where did you buy the ignition?

    • @DawidMartasMotoAdventures
      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  4 года назад

Aliexpress -> search "ignition switch" and sort by orders. It is almost for free, only 0.5$ :D
Bracket was cut from stainless steel and bent, it is woth more than this switch :D

      Hi!
      I bought this one: www.aliexpress.com/item/32882179432.html
Or just search for "motorcycle ignition switch". You can find this at ebay, amazon... everywhere :)
