- This is specifically for the late model Yamaha WR450f but can be used universally for any motorcycle!

The blue and orange wires I used are from the Tusk enduro wiring harness. The wires were intended to be used for the blinkers but in Texas, blinkers are not a requirement.

the way i did it i used the green and black/white and i put them into the kill switch and used the black and red for fuel pump

What if I don’t have a fuel pump would I just wire the key ignition, just like the kill switch?
How would this work if you only have an electric start? I have a ttr230
ive fone the same with my wr450 and had some issues where the electric starter doesnt start the bike with the key in and everything, do you know why this may be happening ?
Working on a project 2013 crf450r to make it street legal. If you could offer some advice on what to do to make the key switch help dis/connect headlight taillight accessories. Bike is not electric start as is
The 2019 wr doesn’t have a kickstart so we can just break ignition circuit correct?

Wouldn't it be better to wire it to the on/off switch? If the key is in and turned the on/off switch circuit is closed. If key isnt in the on/off circuit is open. These do have on/off button, right? At least my friends old 06 did have one.

Hey dude am just trying to do this on my 2017. Quick question, why do you need 2 red wires? Can't I just just tap the red/blue straight into the ignitions red and then tap into the fuel pumps black ground from the ignition?
SICSLIPKNUT I suppose you could, this to me was the simplest way.. all you need is to open the circuit one way or another !
@@LostMoto cheers for the response. I am going to follow your method just to be safe. Also am mounting the key under the left side panel near the rear strut so I don't have to drag the wiring all the way haha
I am trying to do this on my 2018 Wr450f and I am having trouble, since I do not have a kick start i can wire this into my starter relay, but i have no idea
ShortyMoto you still have a fuel pump, take the bike apart until you get to it. Owners manual will help guide you there
I’d still suggest wiring to the fuel pump, this will prevent bump starting as well. I also find it easier to wire that way
How did you wire in the lights to the switch? Use the other two wires that are laying dead?
Now if I’m not mistaken those two other wires would work for a starter, like a car, I’m not sure they would work for lighting, but if you could find a way to splice both the lighting wires and the fuel pump wires into the switch the way he has it it would work
So after some time with your key installed did it have any affect on the fuel pump or anything, did it cause anything to wear out faster than normal?

Perfect that's what I wanted to hear, I heard it wears out the pump faster but all o have to do is peel off sheathing expose wire put both wires where they go tape them off and should be good to go correct??!!! Or if I'm wrong if you could so kindly write the steps of the way to do this I'd appreciate it a million me and my lady both bought 2018 yz450fx and 2017 250fx all street legal now so really want a key in it!!! Thanks you have an amazing to the point video recommend anyone watch this installing a key!!

In theory no, as it is a normally open circuit anyway. (Cutting the wires will open the circuit).

Hey I followed your instructions on your awesome video, the only difference I'm encountering is I can pull the key and the bike will idle until it runs out of fuel pressure. This seems to take over 6-7 seconds each time. I have a new 18 wr450.

The bike would still bump start by the same principle that it would still kick start, the motor will still receive fuel

yes. if it has a working light(front and rear) and a mirror
Depends on state,(or province) I live in Ontario Canada and it is impossible for me to street legalize a dirt bike
Just tap into the kill switch so when the key is out of the bike it's as if the kill switch is pressed
I did that and it will drain your battery
It really depends, if the kill switch completes a circuit when pressed then I don’t think that would work
@@aidanvelthuis1267 just would need a reverse or dual polarity key switch pal. But either way it would really just be a visual deterrent, as you'd just have to snip the wires and the bike would be ready to start again 😂.
