I've had the same dream since I was younger as well. A 2 stroke dirt bike on the street. The only problem I see is refueling when you are away from home & all the tickets i would get for ripping like I was off road, so hard not to crack it open every chance I would get.
Troy F i just carry around some oil and a kitchen meter (?) I think its called and just count the amount of oil ypu need to add. There are apps online for the counting like this one www.scooterhelp.com/genmaintain/mix.calc.html
Go and see braap vlogs to see what's fun
In finland we have to live with driving 50ccs with a traffic speed limited to 28mph and if your bike is able to go over 40mph you will get your license taken away + a hefty fine. So have fun while you can :)
Actually a baby bottle is perfect for holding oil !! It has measurements on the sides of the bottles
The tickets stopped me I already rode enough illegal having ins wouldn't mattered haha
Any bike is street legal when you don’t care about the cops
Its not like they can ever catch you anyways! ;-)
Matthew Ivery yesssssssssss especially on MX 500
That it when you live on the edge of town and there are hella good back roads haha

Yeah, but a dirt bike can't keep up with a police car...off the line sure. Also, you can't outrun radios and since the cops record everything on camera all the would have to do is get a description of the bike and look into who owns that type of dirt bike. Then guess what...they impound your bike and have to go to court in order to try and not get jail time for reckless driving, operation a illegal vehicle, fleeing the scene, potential lawsuit for endangering the public, and resisting arrest, etc... but you can do what you want. Lol
Nice! You can also get a Beta 300rr (2 stroke), comes with everything you need to get it street legal (headlight/taillight, wired for turn signals and has a horn on the bike)and if your state is strict, just get it titled in south dakota and then transfer it to your state. The Beta 300rr has an oil injection system so no messing with oil and fuel mixing which is more beneficial for street.
I have heard a lot of great things with the Beta 300! A friend of mine just bought one of them and he loves it so far!
Yeah for 11 grand with fees!!!
Ditto
@@JoeMama-vj8es thats pretty expensive
@@57ryhce20 you can get used ones for a lot less.
Stumbled on this video as I was searching for conversion ideas.....and there was Chad!! Good to see you are still riding!! I remember the days chasing that YZ250 around!!
Man this took me back. I grew up in São Paulo city Brasil. Me and my homies, always rode a street legal Yamaha DT200 to stroke. They stopped making it and now it’s exactly the same like it is here in the us. Riding that 2 stroke heaven in the city streets was the best thing one can have growing up. Great vid. Cheers 🍻
Having it done to my 2019 Husqvarna TE300i straight from the dealership in Texas. It's like waiting for Christmas morning!
I don't know why I'm so excited about this but I fuckn am.
n1k007 Hahahaha. This is great
Yes it is a young boys dream come true. I live a block from our city cop shop and run my Beta 300RR Race edition past them regularly. Having a 2 stroke plated is awesome and definitely had it's benefits.
Especially sharing that 2 stroke smoke with the local traffic..lol
🤘😬🤘
Phillip Bell how’d u get it street legal, dirt legal?
I do it every day mate with my Husqvarna wr250😂
Just finished my conversion for my 13 YZ450f to street legal, Thanks for being my inspiration! Maybe I'll see you on the roads around Washington! Ride safe.
*Adventures Unknown* - Nice work! The *Tusk Enduro Lighting Kits* are awesome. Cheers
hello cobba
Will it work on a 2003 125 yz??!!?
OMG the YZ 250 is like my all time favorite dirtbike since the mid 80's! I had no idea they still made two strokes in 2018! This is SO awesome. 😀
Christopher Walker Honda and Kawasaki don’t make them anymore
@@chrishansen8026 actually kawasaki and every brand other than honda still makes 85cc 2 strokes
Great job, man! Congrats on having your MX bike licensed! My guess is that my state (California) has additional requirements that make this conversion illegal, but it's worth investigating. Love your kit and installation ideas!
I know what you mean about our love for 2-stroke bikes! I grew up in the 70s around CZ, Maico, Husqvarna, Ossa, Bultaco, Sach/DKW/Penton, Hodaka, AJS, Rickman Matisse, etc., and the closest street legal bike to a real MX bike back then was the Honda MT series, which was the street legal versions of Honda's Elsinore line (an absolutely kick-ass line of bikes!). Anyway, yeah man, that's awesome that you now have a great street legal REAL MX bike! Congrats again!
Yes! That’s really awesome! Gotta love those old classic 2 strokes!
Thanks for the feedback.
For the Baja designs headlight they offer a/c and d/c options. For this kit which would I purchase? Thanks
If you look around there are a couple of CA legal 2 strokes. Once upon a time ago they used to not look for the EPA sticker and issued out license plates for them and basically they became grandfathered in. After discovering their "fault" or whatever they've overlooked, now if your EPA sticker doesn't say "For on highway use" or it says "For off-road use only" you will not be issued a license plate. Can't wait to move outta CA!
Honda always ride red here, my dad has a 74 Elsinore Enduro street legalized. But dog next to 74 race. Then my pops introduced me to a clean all original Can-am mx250!!! The thing ripps faster down the street then my 2000 cr250r. Perhaps feels faster because no suspension so feel everything & low? Hit a 60ft+ table over triple with heel clicker, sketchy lol
I’m jealous, I just spent $10k on a Husky FE 350... thank you CA!
Wouldn’t this qualify as street legal in CA?
@@jackmills1274 Damn, I guess i walked into the wrong room
Sweet You're Back! I love those bikes too.
Awesome man! Glad it worked out for you so well! You seem super stoked! Cheers!
One of the things that was nice about the beta is that it comes all wired and ready. All you have to do is plug in some turn signals and a flasher to the existing harness. Controls and everything are there already 🖒
I did the street-legal conversion to a YZ450F '05, in Utah. My bike was a former AMA supercross race bike with no vin number on frame, factory race frame with no wet-sump oil in frame! It ended up being impounded by DMV after a inspection of vehicles at my shop, they thought it was shady despite what i told them. After providing my proof, I got my bike back, and the Utah DMV riveted a special custom vin plate on my frame to associate with its new title status, like its a custom-built motorcycle now. It was after I got the bike back I finished the full conversion to street legal status, used the same Tusk wiring harness. Safety inspection and its golden, great right. I gave the bike to a friend of mine in Cali! Now he has the only street-legal-registerable YZ450 race bike (supermoto) in California. I even own an '84 Honda XR500R framed bike and Utah DMV just told me they can't get me ownership of a lost title because the bike was never issued a title when new ('84 dirt bike)! BUT, if I convert bike and get safety inspection passed and bring it in.. I can get street-legal registration and that will actually be my proof of ownership also, with bike not having a title.
Taj Jacobs Interesting story about how you got your dirt bikes plated! I also have a 1984 Honda XR 500R I bought new from the dealership when I was 17. I can't confirm or deny any alterations to the original MSO but I got a plate when I presented it to DMV here in NJ. I still have the bike and did a complete remod of it last year after sitting in my parents garage for thirty years! It still had the original tires on it. Now it looks like a modern dual sport. 😉
OK I'll just skim thru this vid before I walk away from the computer, 17:21 seconds later I'm wanting to street legal my bike, at least I want to install the light kit, awesome video.
Could you get closer to the camera, I can't see your face ...very well.. 🤣🤣🤣
Dude Loves himself
lol
@@nellawell4976 A lil tooo much
Nice. So much easier in the UK. All we need over here is a brake light and a horn and then you can get a daylight M.O.T ( D.O.T to you guys ) The down side is you can only ride the bike in daylight hours.
That thing is so clean. Awesome build!
Those kits are so neat, every dirt bike needs that if not already equipped
Nice video broth..! You help on my decision about rear tail light..! 😀👍
Found you just browsing bike vids Chad, hope you're well my man!
Say hi to the other guys "over there" if you see this.
Sending y'all love from down under.
- Young Don ;)
Awesome video! Where I live you wouldn’t get very far without a title.
That's a tasty job.. Don ye jus love the smell of a two stroke.. Greetings from 🇮🇪.. Tanx for the info
Love your mentality dude. Sick bike !!
Greetings from England !!
That bike makes my heart beat fast !
respect and thanks
Good job. Great upload. Really informative. Finally a dual sport 2- stroke!!!! Put a bigger tank on, yr done. Good job. Ken
Hell yea this is a project I can get behind good work👍🏼👌
Excellent video brother. I just got the bug to do the same thing so this video is perfect!
This video made my day, and I have never even owned a 2-stroke
Welcome back! 👍🏻👌🏻
Mr. Jani Hey Thanks!
Nice!! You did it. Sick af. THE DREAM. definitely a crazy one 😂 a must.
Great video bro you covered all the details thanks for putting in the time and effort...
Hey thank you! Much appreciated!
So glad you made this video - excellent information!
Thank you!
Nice work I'm.working on doing the.same kit on my 18 yz125 I can't wait this helped me.out
Wow this is going to be my next project , I just bought a WR250R last year because I didn’t have the money to get the YZ250 + a kit like you got so I now I have regrets!!! I should have saved my money , damn you Bike is sweet and it has so much upside potential!!!
Very good video! Thanks for sharing and I'll be using this to do a supermoto!
I want this setup, im looking forward to this summer riding with my predator helmet and my 250 2 stroke. So hype bro ur video was very inspirational. Ill be riding everyday possible to work being that i drive maybe 30 miles to work. Looking forward to the crazy looks like dudes on a dirtbike yo hype 💯💯💯
YES!!!!! Sick as fudge bro.
PS. I do love the 2 stroke trail bikes /MX ers
I had a Suzuki RMX250 with 6 gears and that bigger fly wheel is just absolute gold!
Honestly if you're street/track riding see if you can source a Yamaha WR250R fly wheel for your bike! You can stand on the pegs and just putt past your mates up steep hills while they are nearly getting bucked off in power band.
I just love that extra 6th gear and man was it a tall 6th gear 140km/r on 2000s MX bike is fairly crazy...11:1 compression and port and polish bore n sleeved shotpeaned and balanced assembly! I miss that bike so much
Damn dude, you did a super sano job on your YZ, totally impressive. Looks kinda like a wiring nightmare to me but what do i know. I might just try this on my RM, thanks for the awesome vid!!
Nicely done, I like that "other" states do not require the blinkers or even an inspection. Up to the end user to install all equipment and know the law. My personal bike is a 2004 YZ250WR/DS, I am building a 2003 YZ325X/DS kit (to be installed), and have 2 2003's ready to assemble and DS (they will be for sale). Damn right they are fun to rip down the tarmac. Set of street wheels is in order. Hahaha
Hell yeah! We got street tired on both bikes and they are absolute must.
Awesome video man!
Good, straight forward info, good job.
Welcome back man..;-p
This is pretty much the dream of any MXer! I'm doing it! can you imagine a KX500 enduro on the street?!!! already got a line on the legal part, so this is gonna get done.
I had the same dream bro xD finally come true ! Cooming soon the before/after of my YZ 250
Your alive welcome back.. 😁
Heck yes! Alive and well!
I've been having dirtbike dreams my whole life. Some of the best dreams I've ever had. Then I wake up and I realize it just a darn dream and I'm gonna be late for work again
Thanks for this info! Great video
Super Clean, well done. Great video
I've made 2 dirtbikes street legal in the past 4 years. Did all the work myself. Super easy if you know what to do and if you can do so in your state.
I got my 1997 WR 250 2stroke licensed here in Arizona. People give you the craziest looks when you fly by them on a 2 stroke
Awesome video!
nice, i did a similar set up with my DRZ250. you passed inspection without DOT tires? idk what speedo you have but trail tech vapor is the way to go, has tachometer, engine temp, miles, ect. also a tip on those mirrors, i have the same ones, place them on the under side of the handle bars (facing toward the ground) makes visibility soooo much better.
thanks man, great video!
West Texas I'm going for it. Thanks Bro!
Your dream is the same one i had 45 years ago with a Suzuki RM in the UK.. I rode fields with it mainly but the teen in me meant i chanced it on the roads occasionally One day a policeman in his car and a police motorcyclist were waiting for me.. i just jumped a ditch and took off over the fields.. never saw them again so luckily they didn’t know where i lived hey! Brilliant video i might still get a yam and the kit and go for it.. A fuel gauge would be handy though… I had a ktm exc and the thing was always out of fuel..
I have a street leagal KTM EXC 125, and oh man their fun in the town
You're right, every kid wants a legal dirt bike
Great video man!!!! The close-ups really helped me understand everything you were talking about. Can't do fun stuff like this in California where they recently passed a law making all things considered "fun" illegal, but it is so cool to see how you did it :)
REALY LIKE WHAT CANT YOU DO OR RIDE IM IN LA RT NOW I JUST HAVE AN ELECTRIC DIRT BIKE IVE BEEN RIDING ON THE STREETS GLAD THEY HAVENT STOPED ME YET I HAVE NO LICENSE ITS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION TO WORK AND BACK. THANKS BRAT (BROTHER) BRAT IS RUSSIAN 4 BROTHER .👽☝🔹🕋🔹☝
Makes me want to move to Washington!
i live in santa cruz cali and the traffic is absolute bonkers out here, I'm taking a moto safety course soon and have a 250 lined up for purchase. i can't wait to zip around town down to the beach, up to the mtns on it!
Sweet - good for you . Thanks for sharing
Yes I have had that dream good sir!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey how did you route the front brake line behind the Baja light? Wasn't the front brake line too short? Did you have to put on a longer brake line to route it in back of the baja light? I just bought a 2019 yz450fx that has a short front brake line and I'm trying to figure out how to route the brake line around it or behind it.
On my crf I was able to just route it behind, I hope that helps
I’m in Washington state too and have a street legal dirt bike as well!
Good content brother
Hallelujah! I need this!
That's got to be a BLAST! I've wanted to do a Supermoto smoker! I've done 2 WRs, they are fun enough! I've got a YZ250 and CR250R in the barn....................................
Dope VW van! I have a 2012 yz450f probably going to make her street legal as of rn she’s strictly dirt
I was born in Washington and once u said Washington allows this I want to move asap I wonder if u can make a banshee street legal, Idk but I liked the video and you earned another sub 😊😊😊
I think it's awesome and I'm looking forward to doing it to my bike
Super clean....NICE !
there were a few YZ's motoxer 2 smokes compliance over here in Australia , my mate had a street legal yz 125
Great video thank you
Soo cool thank you for the tip I will check in my state if it is possible 👍👍👍
Awesome for sure going to do this
Kool and thanks. This really helped my make up my mind. I live in WA so you answered many questions. Now to decide 125 or 250. Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki? Suzuki is not even a thought. Peace from Hoods Canal.
Very nice job thank you.
Awsome bro!
Before CR500 production ended in 2003 (they stopped importing them to the US after '01) they were sold and street legal- in Australia. Had full lights, mirrors, etc.
dope kit!
Beautiful, nice switchgear
It looks trick man! Nice job!
Should try putting a 15t front sprocket to help spread it out a little more and maybe a flywheel weight. This is sick!
n1k007 nice! That’s good feedback. I’ll have to try that.
Don't use bigger front sprocket, it's better and easier to get smaller rear sprocket.
nakki sämpylä not for onroad purposes...
@@nakkisampyla4460 how is it NOT easier to remove the front sprocket and add a longer chain instead of having to remove the tire also? Plus you get way more ratio added by changing the smaller sprocket. Do not give opinions as fact.
Hell yeah I did this to my yz426f!! My 02 kx250 is next
Great work
Yes I did this with my 450x and my god it's so fun to fuck around hit some wheelies a few little jumps here and there some tree stomps lol freaking awesome!
I ride a 1996 Yamaha wr250 it has a factory lighting coil and I’ve been putting together a street legal kit for it too here in AZ you can street legal just about anything, there’s a cr500, cr450, yz125, and xr400’s all over town haha
Sweet bike. I wish I could do this in Cali. I did update my ca green sticker 2002 yz250. Made it like a 2018. New swingarm, forks, 270 cylinder, 18" rear. Etc. Etc. I had to get the '17 fe350 for my street needs.
We have made many CA bikes street legal using various methods! Check us out at dirtlegal.com
That’s so funny I’m an old man and always thought about ripping the streets on my two stroke mx bike, I have mostly vintage mx bikes but I did just buy a te300 husqvarna but I live in Maryland and it’s a super hard state to get something like that threw inspection for a tag but I tried something that another guy told me , I took my title to the MVA and walked out with a tag , oh my god I can’t believe they gave me one so now I just ordered that kit you have from Tusk and can’t wait, they will be saying man there’s an old guy burning up the streets on a two stroke mx bike, too funny
Awesome. Thanks.
Awesome 😎👍
Could this kit be used if you run a 12v battery and NO stator change? I realize the lights will only run as long as the battery is charged enough, I'm thinking of emergency only light and occasional blinker use. All running off of a small battery like you got. I could recharge it at home as needed with a battery tender. Think it would work okay for short periods of time? Most of my riding will be in the day time. I'm having trouble finding a larger stator for my KX250F.
The tars going to shred those tyres sick video tho keep it up
Funny enough. I just bought a really done up 1998 WR250 T2. Planning to do the same but go for motard wheels.
Nice and your from Washington state... Make me want to make my raptor street legal
In Australia you would also need to change the rear pipe over to something like this older WR250 muffler and retro fit it cause it will be too loud to meet ADRs (that's here)
For me I'm going and opposite and wanting to go full electric so nobody hears me on the streets..... But more so in the bush. Street riding will be limited to the roads that take me to the tracks I want to ride 😉
And good thing when it's quiet...those tracks are not very far away at all 👍
