This scene uses footage from The Killers (1946), specifically a scene copied directly from Hemingway's original short story. The Killers - trailer: ruclips.net/video/IDpDaEj1-fg/видео.html Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid has much more depth when you know all the classic movies they are referencing.
richiebear1969 I agree. I don’t know about you, but I always burst out laughing at the scene where Rigby loses it and screams ”Forget the pyjamas!” Haha!
After more than 25 years, this film gives me a special HIGH whenever I see it. It is also obvious to see why Steve Martin received the Kennedy Center Honors.
I love this movie. It's the only Steve Martin film I really like and I don't think it ever really received accolades. I wish the full movie was on here.
I was in California in 1982. I saw the posters for this movie but never heard of Steve Martin, didn't take much interest. What an absolute fool i was, total class and no mistake!
All these years I thought it was just a gag - just something ridiculous to add to the comedy, but it's an actual thing - it's supposed to give the coffee a richer, smoother taste..
Except that ’The Naked Gun’ was about an old policeman getting it on with a 19 years younger woman, was not spoofing film noir, was in colour, contained no clips with actors from film noir films from the 1940s that the main character interacts with, starred Leslie Nielsen, was not about nazi conspirators, had a different director, different music by a different composer...but it’s not impossible that it inspired the latter film of course.
@@EllakGr And yet, when Steve Martin rebooted The Pink Panther, my thought was "No! Ugh, why didn't he reboot The Naked Gun instead? He would have been the perfect new Frank Drebin!"
@@EllakGr Actually, Police Squad/The Naked Gun WAS described as a film noir spoof in reviews by The Washington Post and The Chicago Tribune, as well as by websites such as IMDB, IGN, TV Tropes, The Critical Reel, and Queering The Closet.
Highly, HIGHLY underrated movie. It's utterly brilliant.
Its a funny movie in its own right. But its really funny if you appreciate old films as I do. It only adds to the humor
Another hot one appearance for her is "Against All Odds"
Witty.
Well... okay, not really, but still, made me smile.
Well, okay, it didn't. It made me rage like a nerd whose neckbeard was stepped on.

lol...Man I love this movie...the coffee gag always cracks me up
only truly intelligent people with sophisticated taste can enjoy this film for what it is
Really? makes me wonder what I'm doing here.
That's funny 'cause so can I!
ME !!!

10 People need to go and shave their tongue
Classic film at so many levels.
Sometimes the best gags are the ones you have to be patient for.
I remember watching a "making of" feature on this movie when it first came out... the coffee pouring was improvised on the spot.
Which makes it even funnier.
This is never gonna heal!
"Don't worry about your peeyamas (pajamas). I will wash and press your peeyamas.
Best line in movie.
it's so strange how i had that policeman pop into my head the other day "don't worry about your pyjamas! i'll keep them safe for you!"
richiebear1969 I agree. I don’t know about you, but I always burst out laughing at the scene where Rigby loses it and screams ”Forget the pyjamas!” Haha!
3 people need a cup of java
Is it me or does Steve Martin look like Harrison Ford
It's you.
Definitely, I thought he was him at first.
Looked like Harrison from Blade Runner
Not even close.
Harrison Ford looks like John Fogerty.
If only Rigby had gotten the Java made sooner, then Swede may have remained alive.
It would have been much funnier if Steve Martin hesitated, then grabbed a second bag.
After more than 25 years, this film gives me a special HIGH whenever I see it.
It is also obvious to see why Steve Martin received the Kennedy Center Honors.
You still alive?
Damn Steve, that's alot of Damn coffee!!😂😂
Maximum coffee.
I love this movie. It's the only Steve Martin film I really like and I don't think it ever really received accolades. I wish the full movie was on here.
L.A. Story was another good film of Steve's !
Great movie! Definately a classic!
I need a cup off your Java.....
I was in California in 1982. I saw the posters for this movie but never heard of Steve Martin, didn't take much interest. What an absolute fool i was, total class and no mistake!
I think we need a 10-hour version of Steve Martin making a cup of his Java
It actually looks like a
film from 1941, same camera angles and blurriness to the picture.
That’s deliberate. The DP consulted with Technicolor on how to match color temperature with old B&W movies.
“I got your payamas!!”
Why the eggs?
All these years I thought it was just a gag - just something ridiculous to add to the comedy, but it's an actual thing - it's supposed to give the coffee a richer, smoother taste..
Cowboy coffee: Just the shells by themselves will settle the grounds. Drop in just before pouring. Learnt that from Tom Schoenagel in "80. ☆
Scandinavians use eggs in their coffee pots -- and Burt's character in "The Killers" is named The Swede.
Man i love this movie. Freakin hilarious
Lesley Nielsen-grade deadpan
Awesome!!!
This movie is gorgeous.
We just watched it in university and I couldn't help laughing!!!!
Very funny even though I was young enough not to remember any of the movies referenced
I have this movie on dvd! Epic film. :-D
How is the coffee trick done?
I didn't know in the early 80s, and I still don't know now!
Steve performed magic a lot as a teenager, so maybe it’s a trick he’d done before.
thats how JAVA was invented (sun/oracle should pay copyright license!)
Guess the grounds need to be aerated first?
this is the father of naked gun! exact the same!

Except Naked Gun was funny
The report
Oh Steve Martin, why you no funny no more?
Except Steve Martin still tries to be funny.
this movie deserved a couple a emmys
James Evangelisti you mean Oscars Emmys are TV.
Oh my goodness this comment is legend
"... but i found out it works for different things, too."
...this is worse than I remembered...
how long does it take for a man to put cheese or whatever tht thing is??!!
His colon will be missed
One of the best movies & def under-rated/ not as famous as it should be. I think it maybe only suffered because of the long name.
In germany it's an inside classic. German audience is used to watch synchronized movies. Of course, a german synchro will kill it, so...
I guess he used a pipe up his sleeve ?
i totally agree with u!!
@cruxzula I second that.
greatest ever.
I love his java!
@0:40
the swede is a spoof of "the killers" by ernest hemmingway.
Not a spoof, it actually uses footage from the movie.
This is comedy? Give me frank drebin any day.
so wanna watch this now
