Fantastic video but calling Midnight Club 3 "the easiest arcade racer" threw me through a loop. The game's not as hard as its predecessors but it's still pretty damn punishing compared to its contemporaries like Need for Speed Most Wanted.
Yeah, I was playing it recently and I was shocked at how hard 3 is. Sometimes victory is measured in milliseconds, while track design feels purpose built to screw you over at times.
The tracks compared to most wanted are like whoever designed them clearly was on drugs it's stupid and the ai chances on taking is doubled because how stupid the design is@@0uttaS1TE
Was looking forward to this one! Within the last year I've played through the whole series on Deck (with 60 FPS patches and the requisite tinkering with cycle rate applied) and had near flawless performance across all the games, so I think the spottiness you experienced is more due to a recent deterioration in PCSX2's performance thanks to either an update to it or SteamOS. Specifically, fullscreen in PCSX2 now makes games run like crap, but if you go windowed it's fine. Curious if you or other people have noticed the same issue. As for the double buffer Vsync issues with the PSP versions, I found that setting the emulated CPU clock to 555 made LA Remix run at a locked 60, but you gotta restart PPSSPP for it to take effect.
HOLY SHIT FINALLY SOMEBODY ELSE NOTICED THIS I googles this and found only like 3 other posts or so on reddit yet it's such a big regression nobody seems to talk about I started to gaslight myself that somethings wrong with my pcsx2 config lol
He's back! You're honestly one of my favourite RUclipsrs! So glad I stumbled across your channel! Inspired me to take the plunge and get the Deck myself!
dude your energy is so perfect! instantly subscribed! you have such a stylish presentation and it felt like i went back in time to those old PS1 demo disks of hope and wonder! if you can Einhander on the Ps1 has a incredible atmosphere as well as the mega man legends series! and another guilty pleasure is Guardian Crusade on ps1 with its charming personality and story that has alot of heart (use fast forward for load times)
Please make a Metal Gear video. I don't know the difference between the substance or the original versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on PS2. Should I run the original PC ports, the classic collection, or just emulate them? How do I even boot an MSX2 game? (Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) There are tons of spin-offs and games that I don't know if they're even worth playing and it's all just overwhelming, especially on Linux.
Have you ever run into the problem with no music in the menu of Midnight Club 2 (PC version) on Steam Deck? The rest of the sound is okay, but the menu music just was not there. I've tried many variations of the game (except for the Steam version), run it with different versions of Proton/Wine and Lutris, but the problem is still the same 😢 Thanks for the video by the way. Very interesting excursion into an iconic series on one of the most interesting consoles of modern times!
5:34 you can fix that with "Async Mix" setting in PCSX2 (discovered the setting back in 2018 back when PCSX2 wasn't as optimized as today yet i managed to finish all Ace Combat games). Yes it is said to be "break some games!" but none of them break on me.
Thanks for the video man. I have MC2 on my steam account and have played it, but couldn't manage to finish it because it just started freezing during a loading screen somewhere around 1/3 of the game.....I even tried some compatibility options but had no luck, soooo, not very good news I guess.
Very informative video. Thank you for this I left a like for you! I've tried the GBA version before. The pixel grid filter you applied makes the game less visually grating. How was the loading times for the PSP version under steam deck? Because in the PSP version, you'll be waiting a hot minute. Also MCLA was meant for PS3 / X360 so of course it's gonna be powerful and in an unplayable state on the deck for now...
Been enjoying these videos as a precursor to me actually getting an OLED Steam Deck and seeing what games I can and can't play. I'd really love to see you take on the Splinter Cell and Metal Gear series if you may? Thank you!
I want to see Onimusha and Shin Megami Tensei but they are on a single console (for smt several but each game in only one save for pc ports) so theres no way to contrast multiple versions
Tony Hawk Series please! Midnight Club and THPS are the two main series I would be playing on the deck. Still on the fence about it if they don’t run smoothly
Hey Eden, I am relatively sure the pcsx2 slowdowns are because of gamescope and the way it acts as a "fullscreen" wrapper What i noticed is that these seemingly random periodic frametime/performance issues vanish if ypu play pcsx2 in windowed mode (so, double click inside the window with steam button + RT) Then you will get perfect (depending on if the OG ps2 could handle it ofc and you only run 100% clock speed) performance.
MC3 runs really well on my Android phone via PPSSPP (full speed, higher res w controller), it's my childhood game so I adore just having access to it, makes me want to get a steam deck for the better res Granted, for some reason the PSP port is a lot harder than the PS2 version for some crazy reason?
Can you do a review like this for grand turismo? I just loaded up GT4 running it with PCSX2. The game runs ok, but has a visual break down when the lighting in game starts to push the SD's capabilities. Also, the in game sound track gets choppy while racing.
@@ProjectEdan Have you checked if the new PCSX2 fixes Shattered Memories on deck? This fixed it for me on ppsspp ruclips.net/video/sjdsKnsgNEk/видео.html
The problem with the xbox version is that for ntsc players. The game is sped up to 4%. Which is not an issue on PS2 and PC. Only running the game in pal will fix the speed issue in xbox. But then you're stuck with an interlaced picture. The only second way to fix the issue is to play an online match. Which, for some reason, was optimised while the main game was not. The xbox version is just werid.
Hey Edan, I really enjoy your videos. However with your PSP section- I can tell you have alot to learn. In games like MC3 where the FPS is variable- some emus let you raise the CPU clocks. Changing the emulated PSP to 2000/3000, raising the CPU clock to 333Mhz or higher (ex. 500mhz) then saving it as a per-game setting fixes those internal FPS issues. Recommending extra steps (like 60fps patches) like this adds more research/work, but I think it'll help you grow as a content creator. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the comment - howevever, I did attempt just about everything you mentioned in this comment throughout my testing. I don't include every attempted step in the end video in order to keep things as breezy as possible. On that point, none of the patches I applied to these games remedied their variable performance. Changing the internal clock speed or emulated model does nothing, either. I hope this clarifies for anyone else wondering!
He's back! He's FINALLY BACK! It's so good to see you doing Steam Deck compatibility videos again!

Love your videos please keep ‘em coming
Glad you are still making videos! Love this series, it has potential for hundreds of videos

Great video, as always! Have you tried the "allow tearing" option on the deck to reduce the input latency? I feel like it helps a bit with PCSX2.
Easy fix for dub edition on psp. Set psp system clock to 666mhz in ppsspp settings and it's a locked 60 all year long
my goat
my goat
Viewtiful Joe? Splinter Cell (some games are different depending on the console version and Double Agent is a mess of versions)
AWAKEN, MY LOVE
You should consider making a video on the Virtua Fighter games, now that a new entry is announced.
Just change the CPU Clock speed on PPSSPP to get better performance, works flawless on Midnight Club LA PSP
Why MC3 squashed tho?
What a niche thing to do I love it
would disabling frame limit from the steam deck options menu fix the frame time issue?
I don't even have a steamdeck yet this is really interesting
Get one bro
great video, unfortunate results mostly. In my situation MC3 DUB Edition REMIX works almost fine.
Midnight club 3 dub is classic high school
That first game looks kind of like it was meant to be a PS1 game and then switched to PS2 last minute
Are the PS2 imput lag issues a Linux issue, a Steamdeck issue, or a PCSX2 issue?
WE ARE SO BACK
Can you show us how to install the games?
Are you going to check if updates improve games you already tried?
Only if there's anything of note to report! I did do a video like that some time ago, when SteamOS 3.5 launched.
@@ProjectEdan Have you checked if the new PCSX2 fixes Shattered Memories on deck? This fixed it for me on ppsspp ruclips.net/video/sjdsKnsgNEk/видео.html
Midnight Club "2 is delisted
What about Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Hello, you can actually fix the LA Remix speeds by locking the PSP clock speed to 1000 MHz

That comment sounded condescending as all hell.
Do Kingdom Hearts.
İ wish mc la play on portable device but looks like it never gonna happe
I was hoping somehow the PS3 version would somehow improve but alias thanks for uploading this video
U Irish?
