The original PS1 Ridge Racer may be one of the best games for when you're on coffee break at work. The simplicity just works. It looks damn good if you run it at 16:10 too for some reason. I have it set up in a way where it automatically loads a save state that's saved on the title screen, so there's no load times aside from launching the emulator.
Ridge Racer 6 works nearly flawlessly in Xenia Canary now, you just have to map the F5 key to something and hit it to fix a graphical glitch when starting the first race of your session.
don't forget to clear cache every so often because this game likes to cause memory leaks

the game works almost perfectly!
I love these videos, there is something special when you can play a whole series on the Steam Deck, for me this makes it amazing for videogame preservation.
I don't have a Steam Deck, or plan on getting one, but since it's Ridge Racer content...I have to watch it. I'm a simple man.
24:00 You must use software rendering in PCSX2 for Ridge Racer V to render correctly. This is one of those PS2 games that absolutely do not render correctly using any of the hardware accelerated renderers (e.g. Vulkan, OpenGL, Direct3D). As an aside, this is why MAME will never use hardware 3D acceleration, because machines like the PS2 don't have graphics processors that map directly to modern GPU, which is why you saw all those graphical errors using Vulkan. You give up the ability to render the game at a higher resolution using software rendering, but all those graphical problems like the static-y shadows and framerate issues go away.

I don't know if any other comments mention this, but RR6 actually runs almost perfect on the Steam Deck. You just need to Clear Runtime Caches at the start of the race. The shortcut is F5 on keyboard, but this can be bound to one of the back face buttons on Steam Deck. Otherwise, it's been a perfect experience.
Suggestion: every WipEout game on Steam Deck.

My second favorite IP is virtua fighter, and I just discovered that the naomi versions are running extremly well on the deck. A virtua fighter on the deck would be :O
Btw crackling audio in RR7 is also present on PS3 itself. So it's a game problem, not emulator
whoa really , it's trend then cos RRV does it too, it ran on cd rom drive actually not dvd so sound might 've overcompressed

Make this with Daytona, Sega Rally, Project Gotham Racing, Toca/DTM Series, Mario Kart, Need for Speed. You can do a Video about lesser known but good racing games over all systems. Thanks a lot for your work.
🔴 I'll 2nd vote ToCA/DTM series. Am noting that one of the titles in the ToCA series went by some NASCAR title in North America for, presumably, marketing familiarity before arriving as Touring Car Challenge: ToCA 2. Don't know if the series coverage should end at its renaming as GRID but it might be apt. Curious as to whether ToCA 3 can connect online from Deck to ps2online/OpenSpy pathways.
🔴 Also, am 2nd voting NFS (including if the Deck can race NFSU online as I know there are Tribes: Aerial Assault PS2 players emulating on Deck who are, IIRC, playing online multiplayer currently).

I've always wanted to revisit the motorstorm series, but looking at the track record of these videos I feel like the only one that would run reasonably would be Arctic Edge (PSP/PS2) vs the other titles, being PS3 only (aside from RC but that game doesn't exist)
15:28 You asked "Why?" when it comes to the existence of Pocket Racer. It's because Pocket Racer (running on the Namco System 11) is a cheaper cabinet for arcade operators to purchase than Ridge Racer (running on the Namco System 22), and the cars were re-designed so Pocket Racer wasn't seen as a cheaper but worse looking/running Ridge Racer replacement and cannibalize the sale of Ridge Racer cabinets.

38:22 As with my previous comment, this is another PS2 game where you must use software rendering and run it at its native resolution to get rid of the polygonal seams that you call black bars.

Wait, so it's not just my Deck / PPSSPP / controller config? I noticed that when you're making minute adjustments with steering, the camera kinda nudges always to the right for a split second, no matter which direction you're tilting the stick. It happens to me, too, and it is maddening.
are rr(psp) worse on the deck than android phone?
