Don't feel so sad, y'all. It turns out that that person (or people) who decorated the tree decorated it not only for themselves to see, but also for Dan and the 100k+ viewers that have watched this video. Not every dead mall Christmas tree gets that kind of exposure.
When I was little, in the mid to late 2000s, my Dad would take my little brother and I to the Global Mall, then called the Hickory Hollow Mall. We would play games in the arcade there, which - in hindsight - was a clear holdover from the 80s. We would eat food and play on the plastic playground in the center of the food court. We even made up some silly tradition of running up and jumping off this little cement ramp outside the Sears. And in those days, the place was consistently packed with people. To viewers it may seem like it was just another mall, but for us it was a wondrous place. Then when my parents divorced, we weren't really around my Dad enough to be able to go there anymore. At about the same time it started transitioning into Global Mall. By the time I got back there, it was almost unrecognizable (as shown in the video.) Still, I wasn't old enough then to really feel nostalgia for those very early days when we used to go, so I didn't appreciate the opportunity I had. Now, it's too late. The place is closed for good. So thank you Dan Bell, for helping me remember those better times. I never thought I would be able to see the place again, but now there will always be this video, at least.
Yes being as young as you are you certainly missed the Hey dey of the shopping Mall. I remember them as a kid back in the 80s & 90s the places would be rammed wall to wall, no spaces in the car parks and around Christmas, Thanks Giving etc it was Ridiculous. But those were years way before the internet, never mind online shopping, EBay & Amazon etc. Sad to see these relics from yesteryear so dead and empty.
Sorry to hear about your parents. I have separated parents too so l understand how it feels to remember those days when we had fun weekends at our favorite malls. 😪
Dan i absolutely love how you switch from upbeat young 80s to straight out monotone and depressing, its like a rollercoaster going up and then ramming into a wall.
I put this on sometimes when I'm not able to calm my mind down and I want to just relax enough to fall asleep and it always works to bring me down to a more serene state. This series is so wonderful and weirdly soothing--Dan is a gem.
At the Global Mall, when you're showing the Christmas tree and said that there's no one around I was like "Wait, no there's someone!" and then realized it was just a mannequin lol
this series gives me the closest experience to hugging the actual mall-soft aesthetic, I want to hug and absorb the vibes from malls while they're still here
Yes, while I have always detested the Mall, it was also a large part of the 70's-90's and being 51 now it definatley took me back to walking with old girlfreinds while they shopped, going Christmas shopping or going to a movie. Strong feelings, indeed.
it feels a whole lot more innocent, at least it feels that way. vapid, like the barbie twins themselves. but sometimes you want the fake plastic, pleasant experience. they used to keep them clean and you had a presumption of safety. real funny when you realize the history of malls, how the man who came up with the concept would have been horrified at the consumerist centric vision of the mall of yesteryear. and now we're kind of watching those who survive falling more in line with something closer to his vision of the space. everything is a flat circle, ect.
Dan I used to watch these at night when I was getting sober, a family me member suddenly died and couldn’t relax. Thank you so much for helping me through that hard time in my life.
Yeh same here. Remember how busy Malls used to be as kids? We’d catch the bus to the Mall on a Saturday. We’d have no money apart from our bus fair, but just to walk round and do basically nothing. Especially if the weather was crap outside and raining😂
This is what I was needing man. Been feeling just very empty and emotionless, not really in depression kind of way or anything deeply intense. I'm just in this rut where my mood is in a permanent state of being a flat line. Nothing interests me, everything bores me to death, constant anxiousness about seemingly nothing. Been a shitty week man, so I'm glad there's finally something mellow and atmospheric to watch for a while.

The Palm Beach Mall, in West Palm Beach, FL, was an icon of my youth. It eventually went the way of all the other malls Dan showcases. They tore it down and built an outlet mall, complete with the usual anchors (HomeGoods, PartyCity, Ross, etc) and it is thriving. Strange that the existing mall died, but a new one built in the same exact space is alive and well.

Outside malls have been taking over since the '90s. Hey Dan, I've been following your channel for a few years now and I wanted to express how much I love your content. Keep up the good work and don't let the depression stop you from doing what you do best. I have persistent depressive disorder(dysthymia) which I've had for YEARS and I feel for you on a personal level. I'm hyped that your still making the deadmall series! Keep up the good work brother😊 P.S. I've binged your deadmall series multiple times already lol
I remember the old Hickory Hollow Mall from the mid 80's when we lived near Nashville. I knew it was closed but I had no idea it had become something else. Very sad to see it abandoned like this. I think 80s and 90s kids were the last of the mall generation. Malls are becoming a thing of the past.
Dan does the best job with any dead mall videos on RUclips. He lets us take in the scenery instead of talking non-stop like he's rapidly reading a lengthy Wikipedia page about the mall while walking through its corridors. He shares enough history for us to get the whole picture, and his camera lets us soak in how lifeless these places are.
I LOVED this mall when it was Hickory Hollow. It was my favorite mall in Nashville. It was packed on the weekdays and weekends. I used to work at Game Stop there and started to notice things declining in the mid 00s. Very sad to watch.
I know you’re getting a lot of praise for your work (which is wonderful), but I just wanted to let you know that you’re so appreciated. Even if you don’t put out content or produce anything, you’ve left such an important impact on my tastes and my life. I love you Dan. Keep on keeping on.
Glad you're back! Any chance of a "Living Mall Series" of vintage footage for the Christmas season? I miss some of the feelings of malls in the 90's during Christmas as a kid. Be kind to your human!
I'm genuinely amazed that the old Hickory Hollow mall is still standing. That place has Been dead for like 20 years. I used to work at the old Carmike theater beside it (which is now an AMC) and it looked about the same as back when I was there.
Dan, I've had a weird, long day, and it's been a weird time in my life. This made me feel so much better. These Dead Mall videos are like comfort food. So excited to see another one.
That Global Mall reminds me of my childhood mall, Echelon Mall in NJ (now Voorhees Town Center). They spent a metric ton of money renovating the place and making it a “lifestyle center” only for it to stay dead 15 years later… Glad the new owner of Global Mall at least realizes that it will never be a mall again.
You're INTROS😂💣💥 Zooming in the one "Barbie twin's eye" LOLOL🤣 .....awwww they still put up the 🎄Christmas tree😥 I have to say that first place did seem REALLY creepy!😬
@@mercurymist9240 it does! It is currently an AMC 8 theater location. The exterior is pretty much the exact same since its Carmike days in the 90s. But it's still kicking after all these years!
Because of you we get to see the beautiful Christmas tree. I’m so glad my Arrowhead mall in Glendale, AZ. Is alive on life support. So many people moving into Phoenix. Homes are out of sight and apartments. This is really surreal to see. Damn social media.
I hope that this is a sign that things are improving or stable for you. Glad to have a dead mall upload, but also glad to know you were spending time taking care of yourself. Thanks Dan. ❤️🩹
Awesome to see some more new Dead Mall content Dan , sad to see what some of these malls have become now , sure its easier to buy anything at a click of a mouse now but something feels cold about it , was a experience to go to a mall back in the day and to talk to someone about a product before you bought it in person . Then maybe go look at other shops and grab something at the food court .
I remember how hectic and packed malls were back in the day. But quite frankly, my local malls are still packed asf like it was the 90s. Especially during the holidays.
The malls around me are still doing pretty well. They are still building new housing developments around so theres new money, if you can get it away from Amazon.
How dare they tell you can’t film haha the king of dead malls it won’t be scared easily. Thanks for coming back here on RUclips, hopefully this is the first of many new videos. I take it also as a sign you’re doing ok, so happy for that! Thank you again, Dan. Take care!
Glad to see that you are back! The Global Mall (Hickory Hollow Mall) used to be one of the most popular malls in Nashville in the 80s and 90s. Was really crowded at Christmas time. I didn’t even realize that the building itself was still open and you are able to go in there!
Glad you're back Dan. The Dillard's building in the mall was bought by Nashville State Community College and used for a remote campus. I had a niece who attended classes there.
Omg. I never realized that i stopped watching your dead mall series. I was binging your vids about two years ago. Glad RUclips put you back on my recommended :)
Finally! This is a childhood mall of mine and I visited it 3 years ago. So damn eerie to see a place that I remember being packed as a kid now basically abandoned. Antioch used to be booming but then everywhere around it started developing and then Antioch died. The whole area is like one giant dead mall.
Yaayy! So awesome to see this tonight. Been rooting and praying for you Dan. As my mom would say "Keep on Keeping on." Your videos are first class but above all we appreciate you.
Great to see you back, Dan. Really went all out with the editing on this one too, I feel like your Dead Mall videos somehow get even better with each new one you create! Loved it.
Hey Dan! Glad you're feeling better man. Looking forward to this one! You're one of my favorite content creators on RUclips. If it weren't for your channel I would have never found urban exploration or any of those types of channels (seriously, you were the first channel I ever picked up, I recall the late evenings in summer, binge watching your content and being creeped out at the places you would explore, ahh, good memories) All the stuff you put out is so entertaining to watch and I'm glad you feel well enough to share with all of us again. Stay strong Dan, you are loved and appreciated. ------------- Also wanted to add this to my comment, but I remember when you came to my city and went inside of Rolling Acres Mall. I remember my friend told me about it then I had read about it in my local paper. I've been inside that mall before back when it wasn't completely destroyed and taken over by nature. It's now completely demolished and a giant Amazon center takes up the entirety of that space. Every building that was around that mall has been demolished and a massive Amazon warehouse is in its place. You really did capture a piece of history, history of my town and where I grew up, it's all we have of that place now. The Dead Mall Series is so great!
Wow miss the dead mall series. Glad its back. You still have the best voice and videos. Ur voice is adding up to the feels of the video. Sad for those kids who never witnessed the prime of malls. Maybe they are wondering why their parents took them in an abandoned place to eat. Lol. But yeah dead malls re so depressing cause we know how fun it was to be there.

Keep up the good work brother😊
P.S. I've binged your deadmall series multiple times already lol
Please Lord, I don't ever want to have to be a customer of Economy Dentures. Amen. 14:35
Haha! This made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dan my depression was/is really bad tonight and this just made me so happy. Thank you ♥
Hope you're doing better! Give depression a kick in the shin for me ;) Mfer has it a long ways coming.
Screw the depression monster. It has stolen so much of my life and after 20 years, I'm finally fighting back with decent results!
@@trickrunner4842 Is that what they're doing at 13:50?
thanks for all the positivity guys. I am doing much better tonight!
@@GoatGodBaal as long as you're happy, that's what matters!
I would love to have that massive space to explore , my own post apocalyptic mansion when the world ends
This is like a journey through my mind.
Yeeeees, I am so glad to see you in your natural environment again Dan!!
Dan laughing at the depressing cruise ship is what I come for
My fav part is the 80s-90s vintage vid mixes hilarious and entertaining! TY DAN!!
I missed this so bad, thank you Dan for making my day better
Same! He's from my hometown!
My favorite source of vaporware, urban exploration, and bittersweet nostalgia.
lmao that mall cop, nice one dan.
MALL DADDY RETURNS!!!!
Love your Dead Mall Series. I lived in Antioch, TN in the early 80's. We visited this Mall a lot. So sad to see of it's demise
I love the dystopia feels of these. Really feels like a great zombie movie
You’re an absolute artist Dan! Keep it up!
I remember going in Hickory Hollow the first Christmas after it opened. It was elbow to elbow and magical.
Hello sorry to bother you do you know if the movie theater that was directly across the street from the mall still exists?
@@mercurymist9240 it does! It is currently an AMC 8 theater location. The exterior is pretty much the exact same since its Carmike days in the 90s. But it's still kicking after all these years!
@@JorbyTinky thank for replying I had a lot of fun times there glad it’s still going strong.
Thanks Dan. ❤️🩹
These videos are going to end up in the library of congress
Awesome to see some more new Dead Mall content Dan , sad to see what some of these malls have become now , sure its easier to buy anything at a click of a mouse now but something feels cold about it , was a experience to go to a mall back in the day and to talk to someone about a product before you bought it in person . Then maybe go look at other shops and grab something at the food court .
Thanks to Jeff
Great to see a new video.
I have memories of hickory hollow back in its heyday. Packed like Rivergate was before Opry mills
I remember how hectic and packed malls were back in the day.
But quite frankly, my local malls are still packed asf like it was the 90s. Especially during the holidays.
The malls around me are still doing pretty well. They are still building new housing developments around so theres new money, if you can get it away from Amazon.
I like how you made the mall cop vanish into the cornfield!
Welcome back Dan! Miss your videos so much. Now my weekend is complete. Thank you so much.
i bet there is some amazing old school tile under that carpet from when the mall first opened , plus it would be earlier to keep clean ..
I’m glad you’re keeping Vaporwave alive
Man I am so glad to see you back. I have been watching you videos for over a year and went back to watch the older ones. Each one of them is great.
I’m so incredibly happy about this video! I love this series. I’m glad you’re okay.
Just seeing Dan bounce back is helping me have hope too...love you & your work Dan!
That Christmas tree is beautiful...
"You can't film here!"
(Films anyway, it goes to RUclips)
To that Mall Cop: "You sir, are not merely a clown. You are the entire circus!"
A new Dan Bell video on my sub box is exactly what I needed to end the week on a positive note.
Really happy to see you back Dan!
Thank you!
So happy to see you uploading again. Welcome back, Dan!
Yaayy! So awesome to see this tonight. Been rooting and praying for you Dan. As my mom would say "Keep on Keeping on." Your videos are first class but above all we appreciate you.
Glad you're back!!
They're all depressing for those who remember those days.
God bless. Be safe.
Wonderful to have you back Dan! We love you!
Great to see you back, Dan. Really went all out with the editing on this one too, I feel like your Dead Mall videos somehow get even better with each new one you create! Loved it.
So glad the dead mall series is back. I hope you are doing well, Dan.
My favorite series. So relaxing, it helps me so much to just turn off my busy mind at night. Thank you ♥ I'm so glad you're back!
