This is a really good channel. Love these old style motels. We were poor growing up and were in and out of motels for a couple of years in the early 90s. We didn’t have much but we had each other and we made the best of it. Thank you for video.
his brings back so many memories of travelling across country with my parents when I was a little boy, and my dad insisting that we stay in the cheapest place possible. I can almost hear the sounds of the old air conditioning units clanking away, the smell of generic cleaning products and the feel of those old chintz bedspreads on my skin. Throw in a rusty sink and a "Sanitized for Your Protection" paper ribbon on the toilet seat, and you've got yourself a bit of Americana time travel to the 1960's & 70's!

Carlisle is packed every year for the Ford, GM and Dodge car shows, also the Import Nationals and Classic car shows so those hotels likely are filled up a few times a year.
Used to live in Carlisle for 20 years and still live near. You definitely found the most dilapidated areas that it has to offer lol. Also, based off the rain and standing water from Hurricane Debby, you likely visited on 8/7, 8/8 or 8/9 when it was 90+ degrees with at least 90% humidity - credit to you as that was a BRUTAL stretch of weather. I hope you took a stroll downtown as it's a beautiful town with great shops and restaurants. Carlisle, and its surroundings, really is a great little area with TONS of history. The War Museum, a part of the Carlisle Barracks, sits right off interstate 81 and serves as a road trip landmark for many as it displays retired tanks, huey helicopters, and walkable bunkers and is well worth the free visit. The Barracks, the second oldest in the US, was a key supply headquarters during the revolutionary war. The old Carlisle Prison that was built in 1754 still stands in downtown Carlisle and serves as County office spaces. The town was also instrumental prior to the Civil War as it served as a station for the underground railroad. There are also massive car shows for just about any category one may be interested in and a plethora of space to hunt or fish, highlighted by the Yellow Breeches Creek, which is "world renown and rich with fly fishing history". Thanks for visiting and filming a place I love and great video as always!
I’m in Pennsylvania but closer to Philadelphia. Just curious why are there so many motels in that section? It’s not a resort area, is it just for travelers?
Yes, I think that's why I enjoyed this video so much is that you sound like you had a blast filming this whole thing. I like the rain while filming the motels as it adds more life to the rooms. Great video Dan and thanks!

As someone who used to live in Carlisle, I promise everyone that this is the worst Carlisle has to offer. Also, PA has no great nature. People kept looking at Dan weird because they think he's a cop, some of these places are residential hotels and he is visiting in the off season, I believe (there are large influxes of people for car shows). Many people don't have cars staying at some of those hotels. My wife and I can answer SO many of these questions. The name "Mobile" Home is very misleading. Petro is like that because Carlisle has a lot of Truckers
Ahhh yes, ye ol’ Carlisle pike. A lot of motorbike racing in that area too if I remember correctly. Could have been Mechanicsburg though. I definitely can’t forget all of the good antique stores. Thanks for the throwback!
PA has no great nature? IDK what you're smoking bud there's tons of great forest to hike, some kinda big trail named after these mountains... Apple something..?
When you got to the Golden Arrow motel/Restaurant billboard on Rt. 11&15 that was a very popular place in the 80's it was right next to the Sunset Skating Rink in Shamokin Dam PA but it was torn down between 1999-2001 so Auto Zone & Arby's could be built BUT if you go behind Auto Zone theres still a original section of it that still rents rooms. An if you would of kept going North on 11&15 for another 30 minutes you would of hit Porno Row where all the truckers hang out. I live right on Rt. 11&15 near Lewisburg, PA and I've been going down that highway to get to Harrisburg my whole life so I'm very familiar with it. An I'm not sure if you went through Duncannon and saw the Strip club 1/4 mile there's 3 different clubs in that 1/4 mile because there right next to a large truck stop. That area is rather strange.
FYI Dan, all of these hotel motels you video are mostly Welfare hotels that the state pats for to house people. They keep a few rooms for actual rent but they are far from useable. They do this in NJ as well..
You are so full of BS 💩. These motels are all owned by corrupt foreigner's and do NOT accept welfare they charge cash ONLY and they are not cheap especially during car show time of year. The Econo Lodge is definitely shady and has long been suspected of 💸 💸 🧼. The worst by far is the American Inn on the Hburg Pike. Avoid that one at all costs.
@samanthab1923 you ever see the Moon Motel in Howell? Dan would've been thrilled with that place. Unfortunately it burned down. The sign was an icon even if you didn't want to go anywhere near the building.
Against my better judgement, I have decided to share with you a misadventure or two I had in Carlisle PA once upon a time in my long lost youth. Having lived in nearby York, I happened to make the acquaintance of a fellow from Carlisle --- who worked, actually, at one of the area motels which was at that time known as the Pleasant Inn. I am almost certain it is one of the rebranded establishments documented in your comprehensive overview of Carlisle --- quite possibly the Red Carpet Inn, or perhaps some other nearby single-story unit. I had occasion to spend a night at the Pleasant Inn, my Carlisle friend fixing me up with a room where I could hole up for the night with a man who would soon become my first "husband" (you see). It occurred to me sometime later that the room was made available in order that my Carlisle friend might spy on us, which indeed he would not have been above. It has been decades since I've been to Carlisle, but thanks to you, I now know it remains a hotbed of sordid activity. A lifestyle embraced by my Carlisle friend to a rather extreme extent, and I fell out of touch. He remained unabashedly tawdry in his pursuits, enthusiastically so, right up until his recent death, the details of which I do not know, and prefer to keep it that way. I watched your video in his honor, and hope you don't mind terribly that I've eulogized him here. Brian Philadelphia

Was that a big bathtub blocking the entrance of that abandoned hotel? Oh, and those doors in the Petro were once upon a time private phone booths before the days of cel phones.
Stop by during a car show. Won't find a empty spot then. Any other day are usually either poor people or addicts and dealers. Pretty weird seeing all these motels considering I spent a night or two at most of them at some point. Brings back both good and bad memories.
That stardust motel is close to the red rabbit drive inn, highly recommend. Further up 15 from there was the New Buffalo restaurant. Old school trucker oriented place. Now sanitized into a modern Exxon truck stop. Also used to be a place called Susquehanna trading post. Now a military surplus store it looks like. Used to drive that way all the time going from MD to Williamsport for school.
I started driving 18 wheelers in the early 1990’s. I got to know Carlisle pretty well because that was our fuel stop. Lots of memories, most of them bad 🤣 Those little doors by the way in the Petro are showers for drivers. They are locked because you either have to pay for a shower, or have enough points from buying fuel to get a free shower.

Hey at 18:39 that barn shaped building use to be a RED BARN Restaurant. We had one of those in Oxen Hill, MD. in the 1970's. Well known for Fried Chicken and Great Burgers.
You're a braver man than I Dan I'm from the area and drove past that Mature Fantasy store all the time growing up, when I was 18 some friends dared me to go in so I walked up with 2 buddies but turned back immediately at the door because of the strong and unpleasant smell, it's surreal seeing someone else stumble upon it lol

These motels remind me of traveling in the 80’s with my family. I love these vintage places. I have watched videos about the abandoned old “honeymoon hotels” that had the heart shaped tubs and beds. I guess you are getting the tail end of Debbie. I live in coastal SC and it seemed like the storm stalled over us. I love your videos Dan! Your dog is so cute ❤
Dan, you should do some videos on motels and mobile home parks here in Dayton, Ohio. There’s a lot of old vintage ones too. It’d be some good content, I promise!
You've got to drive up Route 33 in the Shenandoah Valley. There's an ADORABLE place called Country View in Elkton -- a regular motel with little cabins too. Almost worth driving over the damn mountains again to visit.
This brings back memories! I used to drive from Toronto to Scranton and Harrisburg twice a month for business in the late 80s into early 90s. These places were barely surviving then and were around $20 a night.
Dan, It looks like you may have picked Thursday night 8/8 for your overnight motel exploration. That was the night we got loads of rain from a hurricane coming through. I was home asleep listening to the sound of the rain against the side of the house. It sounded great. I recognize most of those motels. Didn't know those cabins were behind the Pike Motel. Glad you liked the Petro truck stop. I remember when they built it. It replaced the All American Travel Plaza. They used to own most of the truckstops along that road in the area.
Carlisle getting kinda close to what AUNT SOOKIE said was the Bruce Johnston old stompin' grounds. We all remember the john deere shenanagins an this an that.

Been watching for years. My fav thing to do is ride around and look at stuff so I eat these up. Also I live in south MS, we have trailer parks all over with those vintage trailers
Dan I can't believe you've never filmed in Cherokee North Carolina. As much as you love old and abandoned Motels, Cherokee is Heaven. Lots of old Neon signs from the 50's and 60's. It's in the Mountains of NC not far from Gatlinburg, TN.
DAN, the Lucy Movie is CLASSIC ! LOVE it and those Trailers were Amazing, a lot of rounded corners inside and out. Curved wood paneling inside, LOVE THOSE !!!
Interesting factoid , James Osterburg ( IGGY ) from the band The STOOGES grew up in the exact model mobile home that is in the 'The Long long Trailer ' film ( Lucille Ball ), Iggy talks about it in the documentary ' Gimme Danger ' ( Stooges doc ) , very cool & funny documentary , also The STOOGES are GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAT !! Visiting my hometown. Losts of old exploration locations here.. glad to see you here!
I live in carlisle and bro you did the place sooo dirty i have never called someone out for there video being fake but your a first 😂
@DanBellFilmIt I live like 5 minutes from the mature fantasy. You should hit me up for some tour of the sleezy areas!!!!! Love the videos!!!! I can tell you a lot about those places.
Hey at 18:39 that barn shaped building use to be a RED BARN Restaurant. We had one of those in Oxen Hill, MD. in the 1970's. Well known for Fried Chicken and Great Burgers.
The rain definitely set the mood for the dismal motel/hotels. The truck stop and the cheesy merch was fabulous but I’d prefer antique shopping!
Me too!!!
It’s a nice mixture of nut, ball must and chemical cleaners.
@@DaveBaked98 When we were kids we passed one on the way to the beach. On one of the circles. We’d scream out the window at guys coming out. My mom just laughed
So wonderful to hear you are a fan of "The Long Long Trailer", Dan. Big Lucy and Desi fan.
You should totally go back to that truck stop when the store and restaurant are open.
Loved you singing Madonna to us!!
Yesss! I had to go listen to Madonna's Girlie Show version again when she mixed in "Just my Imagination" ruclips.net/video/hlC6jlnU1IY/видео.html
Those places over in Carlisle PA do mega business weekends when the big car shows are happening.
Awesome video Dan! I thought the grounds of that first motel were very unusual. Also really cool truck stop!
7:06 I loved that little canopy over the stairway, I have never seen that before!
All the makings of a serial killer movie😂
ahh good ol runn down PA, reminds me of an area near me. I love these types of places...and love how you didnt judge or shame anyone who lived there. classic as always, come to beaver falls PA route 18 soon, similar places to this and people always joke about it being "hepatitis highway"
also, i work at a place similar to the fancy motel at night you saw. it has been fixed up and is really expensive now but still a ghost town
Been watching for years. My fav thing to do is ride around and look at stuff so I eat these up. Also I live in south MS, we have trailer parks all over with those vintage trailers
👏🏽 for singing the Madonna classic (“Rain”).
I enjoyed the surprise truck content, taking on the harsh weather.
Dan I can't believe you've never filmed in Cherokee North Carolina. As much as you love old and abandoned Motels, Cherokee is Heaven. Lots of old Neon signs from the 50's and 60's. It's in the Mountains of NC not far from Gatlinburg, TN.
The end of this month!
Thanks DAN !
The man on the treadmill motivates me 🥴
Wow… have not seen AC since back then, try to put it in my past. Hard to believe it was so long ago, 18 years. Still miss her, she was something special indeed. RIP
