  • A few weeks ago I asked people what they recommend to absolute beginners for buying bitcoin. Overwhelmingly people said Coinbase so I made a video about that, and will go over other awesome platforms in subsequent videos!
This is a step-by-step guide for setting up your first bitcoin wallet.
Check out my "absolute beginners" playlist for more videos!

Thanks for this guide! Most other "beginner" tutorials totally skip over setup and are like 50% shilling referral codes and it has been frustrating finding a guide that actually goes through the process. This was a great guide!

This is glorious, I've been looking for "invest 0.01 bitcoin" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Zenavid Nenillian Plan - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.

Do you have any alternate options for Coinbase? They have a very censorious nature like patreon I'm afraid and I'd rather not support them, and if there's one with a way to convert it back to Canadian dollars that'd be pretty handy.

Great stuff Naomi! it’s kinda crazy how Coinbase is so popular I guess it’s just the easiest .. it’s totally skeuomorphic in how you have to use a bank lol! It’s crazy to think how much the legacy system is still part of the future of money. Awesome stuff Naomiiii 👏👏👏🙏

While the video itself is really well made, about halfway in I got appalled by the extreme amount of information and steps needed to get started. It's mindblowing.
Then I remembered that if you opt not to use coinbase, but rather install a wallet on your phone like copay, the setup is simple, easy and showcases the permissionless and peer-to-peer nature of the currency.
I understand the choice though, using coinbase as the wallet here does make the follow-up videos better connected and there is value there. It's just far from my ideal scenario for onboarding users.

    • @NaomiBrockwellTV
      @NaomiBrockwellTV  5 лет назад +1

I've found coinbase to be the most simple of all the platforms for absolute beginners, but I'll be doing follow up videos on other platforms also. I'll take a look at copay if you recommend it!

@@NaomiBrockwellTV coinbase is by far the most simple on-ramp for new users that want to go from fiat to crypto, but from a wallet perspective it's just decent, maybe even a little convoluted.
I do recommend copay, and lately I've been exploring HandCash (NFC and names, instead of QR codes and long addresses).
Copay works with both BTC and BCH, while HandCash is BCH-only. Copay has several years of trackrecord in terms of security and is the base openaource wallet that bitpay, bitcoin.com, cryptonize.it and many others are forked from.
I suggest you try it yourself and make up your own mind on how userfriendly it is.

Basically coinbase is a company that holds your bitcoin for you, like a bank. If you want to store your own bitcoin you have to be pretty savvy with security measures, so I didn't want to go over it in a beginner's video, but I'll cover it soon!

@@NaomiBrockwellTV The security aspect is really something we've neglected in crypto, but HandCash is doing a great job there. You choose to back up, hold an NFC tag to the phone, and you're done.
no 12/24 words, no WIF, no complexities.
To restore, just choose to restore and hold up the NFC tag and you're done.

Yes I have your email, no I'm not going to give out your email or spam you, and anytime that I wish to send you an email I will ask permission to make sure that it is OK with you before I send it.
