      @Jerry L Kreps BTC is not what's going to bring about mass adoption. You have plenty research to do. Proof of Work (aka Mining) is being abandoned now for Proof of Consensus, Proof of stake, etc. Some of the newer protocols are 1,000 times plus faster than Bitcoin mining. Significant research and development has taken place in the last 2 years. Believe me, cash is a thing of the past. The 5 to 10 years I believe every nation on this earth will adopt digital currencies and Bitcoin will not be it.

    • @PoetClbrown
      @PoetClbrown 4 года назад +1

      @GreyGeek The rich will eat up BTC or send it to zero. It is HIGHLY centralized because 80%+ of the mining power is controlled by about 3 companies in China. Plus the powers that B can't contain it so they will not allow it to fly too far. Listen now to all the talks about "going green" lowering carbon, etc. those are keywords to smash BTC to bits.

    And LN is VERY PRIVATE too. As Bitcoin adoption grows I think eventually onchain transactions will become more rare and LN will grow. LN payments are super fast, super cheap, and super anonymous.

Clearly if one has some cryptos in cold storage and wish to transact, one must upload his cryptos into a personal computer wallet (at least for the time of the transaction) . From that computer one has to initiate the transaction via the Internet, which uses an IP address. If this IP address is somehow monitored by a third party the crypto transaction existence could be observed, hence, compromising your anonymity. How can this security breach be avoided ?

    My worry is the banks selling it to healthcare insurance providers so people can be denied getting paid for certain healthcare based on their spending habbits.
    At the moment, no bank in my country sells this in any way, their was a huge uproar when someone even suggested this. Pretty certain one reason banks want to do this very low or negative interest rates. Basically dealing with small customers is becoming a cost for them (think for about ATM security for example).
    Countries that went more and more cashless even the government promoting it (yes, imagine a supermarkets you can only pay with some card, that's real) some governments have started to think:
    maybe not such a good idea for people to have no cash what so ever in case of an emergency. So they've stopped promoting it.
    I would suggest Dash for payments and privacy, it's speedy and secure as well (based on Bitcoin and has built-in optional privacy based on coin-join with less centralization than Bitcoin/Bitcoin Cash coin-join solutions).

    At 8:05, you say that people absolutely must use multiple addresses rather than re-use the same one. You then say that when making a payment, UTXOs from multiple addresses are likely combined, thus giving away the fact that you own all those addresses.
    If you will never re-use the same address for depositing BTC, what does it matter that you've given away the fact that some addresses belong to you? If you never make another deposit to those addresses (as per your insistence that we never re-use the same address), then they effectively act as 'throwaway addresses' once all the BTC they contain has been spent.
    That having been said, I don't understand the privacy concern you raised. It would make sense if we were going to re-use the same addresses, but as per what you said at 8:05, that's not what we will do.
    I think there is something I missed, so please explain your point in reference to my comment. Thank you, and I appreciate your video. It was especially useful to hear you break down the concept of UTXOs.

    What happens with lost coins? I. E. Like pennies, Pence, or euro cents. I have them rolling around the bottom of my car. They fall out onto the sidewalk, down the drain, etc.

      @Fluffy Hamster I know it's bad in Europe. Governments that restrict your rights and liberties are the real criminals. You have the right to keep and bear arms no matter what illegal laws the state passes, for it is a human right from conception to death. Where I live, which is Idaho, the government recognizes that it citizen's have these rights to keep and bear arms. I Open Carry a pistol everyday, everywhere I go and have for several decades. Carrying arms in Idaho is just as normal as carrying a cell phone.

    I have my money deposited into a checking account with a debit card and paper checks. Are you saying that I need to go to the actual bank to remove cash to purchase items?

    • @Toody49
      @Toody49 Год назад

      That’s my question exactly. And then, my friend tried to withdraw money when Y2K happened, but his bank didn’t like him drawing as much as he wanted to because the bank puts a limit on how much you can withdraw. So how can you withdraw the money and keep it in your house, which isn’t safe. Or are you supposed to buy the cryptocurrency with cash or through your bank accounts? Then doesn’t that fall under the scrutiny of the banks when you try to use that money for something and take it out of their system. It’s not like you’re putting it into another bank. You’re putting it into another form of currency. How could you do that when nobody accepts cash?

    I wouldn't be too surprised if Canadians/Mexicans are not allowed into the USA simply because they used a credit card to buy marijuana.
    Although I think that's currently not the case, except for people who have specifically had their records surveyed with a warrant, but the number of those people would be very low.

    Very confusing. Anyways I live in the US and I need to obtain a credit report score of atleast 600 for leasing an apartment. In order to do this I need to use credit cards in a responsible manner and keep current on my bills. How does crypto currency fall into this? It probably doesn't, but I really need a place to live and paying cash all the time doesn't help with the credit report. I guess personal loans would. But what does that mean as far as your personal data getting out? How do you use credit responsibly and try to live a more private lifestyle?

    My card exists solely to draw cash from the ATM. 99% of all my company's transactions are cash and I receive my own personal take from that company in cash, which I pay into the bank account for the very few payments that are paid by direct debit (phone, rent, etc..).

    Let's face it Naomi, people who do this sort of techno-torture aren't doing it to "avoid having their information sold" to marketers (mostly).
    They are doing it to avoid government scrutiny.
    There might be a lot of good reasons for avoiding the government scrutiny, especially in places like Hong Kong, but we aren't so far gone in the West that is as crucial, right now (though I expect that to change in the near future).
    People using this technology are probably doing some really shady shit that probably needs to be investigated (child porn). In fact, I have come to understand that merely downloading the TOR browser can get you extra scrutiny by the NSA, et al.
    Having said that, in order to make something like this more useful, it has to be available to the masses, and its functionality transparent to the users.
    Until that happens, it will just be a curiosity of techno-geeks and criminals, which will (ironically) make us less secure because it will invite increased scrutiny by the government.

      LaserGuidedLoogie we ARE so far gone in the west, we already have weaponized government agencies, who have weaponized social media platforms, who attack opponents of the world wide revolution, MSM is weaponized for the same reason, as are universities. If you think they will not use this tracking ability against anybody who they think resists their agenda, you are mistaken. The financial system is one of their greatest tools to enforce compliance.

    The privacy issues with debit and credit cards have been going on for decades now, but I guess some people remain obliviously to it so thanks for telling them. My issue is I have yet to find any credit system within crypto that operates the same (granted most people in crypto are against this modern system of debt lol), the only thing crypto seems to have is collateralized loans which doesn't help with overall wealth building leverage strategies let alone poor people who cannot put up collateral at first from start but could still make a $25/m payment on a revolving credit account if granted access like I was recently with a $500 limit on a "student" credit card. Do you know of any lending system in crypto that isn't collateralized that would serve as an alternative?

      Wonder Woman Having privacy means that we belong to ourselves. The more information businesses and governments and banks have the more it allows them to create profiles and grade us like a social credit system. A social credit system like China’s where you cannot get work, travel or participate in society if you don’t fit a certain demographic. Imagine if people were excluded from the financial and banking system because of sexual orientation, race or because the government decided that people with certain bad habits such as fast food, candy or cigarette smoking because they are a drain on society. This is why privacy is important it means we get to make choices about who we are and who we want to be.
