      Did you discovered why the 3 lights on Dewalt sits around the bit? I own Dewalt, mostly because off its price per quality... but try it out against a wall.... just turn the drill so the lights turn on. And approach the wall with the drill. Start it from a 3 ft distance and get gradually closer to the wall while the lights shine! Let me know, what you notice!

    That JessEm gauge looks really well thought out and well made. Tell JessEM they sold a set beacuse of your video. Had to go with the Freedom units.

    I'm happy with that new JessEm Gauge. I like how long the foot is.
    If you're thinking of using something like the AirPods, remember that those are not necessarily providing hearing protection. Just because they cancel noise doesn't mean they protect your hearing.
    I use the 3Ms Worktunes currently, but I use the gel version; they're more comfortable. I wouldn't mind something lighter, but I'm not big on in-ear devices.

    Thank you for the new tools review Matt. I appreciate it. I haven't seen CAT make anything bad with the exception of the skid loader when it first came out, and that's neither here nor there when we talk woodworking. I'll consider it when I need to replace my tools. 😊😊😊❤❤❤

    The light on the CAT drill/driver is placed to minimize shadow. Try drilling a precise hole inside a cabinet with a drill lit near the bit and then try one with the light low on the grip and you might really appreciate the shadow mitigation that the off axis placement provides.

    Got the Jessem stainless steel dowl kit. Was on back order for a month but arrived a couple of weeks ago. Quality is great. May have to pull the plug on getting the gauge. I am curious as to how often you have to clean the air filter on the wall mounted AC/Heater unit when you are using the shop to do wood working.

    Thanks, Matt! That setup tool looks awesome, but it says it's in pre-order. I'll keep my eye out for it as I'll finally be setting up my new router and table next month.
    I've had my eye on the Elgin BT over-the-ear buds. I have a set of original wired 3M muffs that were a gift from my late father, so I've avoided replacing them for wireless, but the padding is now falling off, so I think he'd understand. I like the idea of the wire between the ear buds so I can hang them on my neck when not in use. I use these while mowing the yard and will use them when running my saws in the future.

    I've had one of Ridgid's "Bucket Head" shop vacs for too many years. It lives in my leather working shop for cleaning up hole punch debris, leather dust, etc. Loud, but fairly small, and very cheap.

  • @markgallagher1376
    @markgallagher1376 4 месяца назад

    Lowe’s used to sell a bucket vac but doesn’t sell them anymore. I bought one ten or 15 years ago. It was $20 for the vacuum and 2 or $3 for the bucket at the time and I loved that thing. I used it on a lot of things including cleaning my pellet stove out every couple of days. It was great for that because I could separate the vac and bucket and set them out on my lawn for the day after cleaning the stove. If they caught on fire because I didn’t notice an ember I was only out 23 bucks. That never happened, though, because I learned my lesson with my previous shop vac which was an $80 16 gallon vac.

    Graphene batteries are a big step up. We’ve been running them in RC racing for a few years now. A little safer to charge at higher amps, which translates to more power coming out.

    I'm probably one of the few people who are not overly impressed with my JessEm setup gage. It's very clearly stated on the website, but escaped my attention. It's only got a resolution of 1/16" (imperial). Nothing in between. Versus the way more expensive WoodPeckers version that does 1/64".

    I'm a decade long user of Plugfones.. they have corded bluetooth models that look and work like standard ear plugs. (For work where protection is required)
    Also they have the wireless duo which comes with 2 pair and a charging case. They automatically switch when removing from the case. Great warranty support. Had no problems with exchanges when one set was bad. They just sent another set without a return.

    12:03 I’m seeing that #4 mini bucket shop vac as a great thing for cleaning car seats especially if someone has kids and fireplace ash. Maybe if you have no carpet and cheaper out on your home vacuum, this could be for the occasional big mess clean up too?
    Very cool addition from Ryobi. You’ve got me too curious about it now. Thanks

    • @LJ-ft1ic
      @LJ-ft1ic 4 месяца назад +1

      Be careful using a vacuum with a plastic bucket to clean up fireplace ashes. You might unknowingly suck up some still smoldering embers and have a meltdown in the bucket!

    • @MemphisCorollaS
      @MemphisCorollaS 4 месяца назад

      @@LJ-ft1ic fair enough. I usually douse the ashes with water before going to bed and then clean up when the water is completely dry the next day or more. If I feel warmth and can touch the ashes with my hand, then it isn’t out all the way to me. Thank you Boy Scouts.
      You’re absolutely right about being careful. Imagine embers melting through halfway through the house and spilling out all over a couch or the floor. Terrible.

    #1 are just beautyful. I'm a sucker for nice machined stuff. #4 may be the ideal solution for a garage. I will have an eye for something like that on the Bosch battery base. Tho I don't know if there is a market for that in germany. The whole home depot bucket stuff seem to be a USA thing. Kinda cool tho. #5 if CAT tools hold up like the CAT boots I bought 25 years ago, than this would be a gread addition to the market. I hope they don't waste the brand name on cheap stuff.

    Just nitpicking, I guess, but I bought their dowel jig that appears of the same composition and I experienced a lot of rust. Big shop, not conditioned in Florida. I know, Sorry. working on that, but I would be wiling to pay the price increase for stainless components in conjunction with the aluminum parts. Again, I do not know the component composition but that would have a bearing on future purchases.

    4:30 Every single tool should be hybrid. I have a battery powered chop saw from festool which is super handy but it can't work with an auto vacuum switch unless it has a cord. How can all these expensive battery powered tools not even have a set of prongs on them?

    I retired from caterpillar 4 years ago after almost 40 years there. In the 80's I worked as an engineer designing the initial loader and backhoe buckets for the backhoe loader line. A couple of years before I retired, I was in a meeting with some guys in the dealer network and they showed us the Cat branded tools. I thought they were cool but they didn't knock my socks off. I think I could have bought them with an employee discount but I stuck with my dewalt and Milwaukee stuff. I never used them so I don't have a real opinion. I just didn't see a compelling reason to add a new battery platform.

    I did not know that CAT made power tools to watch this video. I think they should’ve stuck with their burnt yellow orange color but they probably went away from that so they looked different than Dewalt so I can understand that.

    I think you missed the mark when talking about the Elgin Rebel earbuds. I'm not throwing a pair of these earbuds in to just listen to music. I'm throwing them in to protect my ears from the noise created by my tools. Apple earbuds DO NOT protect your hearing. They are not rated for hearing protection.

      What other CAT stuff have you tried?
      They arent shoemakers so whether theyre decent or not depends on who made the boots, which shouldnt be hard to find. Now ive thought about it Ive had 5 or 6 different CAT tshirts and hoodies and socks that have been some of the best quality apparel I've ever owned. I cant recall the brand they used unfortunately :(

      @cpzmelbs just the boots. I work in concrete, so a dry boot is essential. I suppose maybe I judge their brand stuff kinda harsh based on boots. Love the carhartt gear but hate their boots as well, so you make a valid point, sir!

    • @cpzmelbs
      @cpzmelbs 4 месяца назад

      @@RJSDZNS tbf i find that concrete, cement, screed anything of that nature can destroy boots of any quality, brand and price like no ones business lol. But some seem to have some special composition or layer of material that help cope a lot better. Mystical shoeology type stuff perhaps 😂
      I was going to splurge on a pair of their boots but hesitated long enough to leave their store from all the uncertainty haha. Had 1 carhart shirt issued by employer aside from that, carhartts often double-triple the cost of other top brands
