We have Raccoons everywhere in America pretty much and yes they are nationally known as trash pandas, and they absolutely would steal from your unprotected recourses also you made me realize The Forest needs a bigfoot enemy lol.
I built on that island the funny thing is if you build a fire on it the island Kelvin and Virginia kinda warp fly over to the fire in the area with no mesh then warp back. Always wondered why they did that lol. Makes sense now
100% understand what you mean by immersion feeling lesser than the first forest, there's alot less detail in the survival elements in the sequel compared to the first and I think that's the primary contributor, at least for me.
We need snow shoes. The smaller animals to drop their hides, so we can make small rock pouches, and other similar items to The Forest. We need apex animals, bears or some form of big cat (ans they will also kill cannibals). The game feels way more complete then when I was playing in beta when it opened, but there are still a long way to go.
Glad they fixed the bug of raccoons stealing food through walls, it was a pain. Didn't matter how far inside your base or how high up it was from the ground, the meat and fish on drying racks would slowly go missing.
Omggg the navmesh is SUPER helpful!! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve wanted to ✨unalive myself✨ because Kelvin kept walking all the way around the shallow rivers and I couldn’t figure out where exactly he was or wasn’t able to pass through lol

I doubt they'll do anything that will enable you to easily build in an inaccessible location like an island because it makes the cannibal threat more trivial.
Bold of you to assume it was a decision rather than a product of laziness but I agree that it prevents a few cheese strats. However it's still extremely easy to find a decent sized lake and build in the middle of it.
As someone that played Son's of the Forest first. It's way way better. I think OG players remember how ground breaking the original game was and get caught up in the nostalgia. This game is way way better, and more immersive for me, a new player to The Forest franchise.

I agree. I loved The Forest, it was my first survival computer game but I was after a game that was similar and beautiful, SOTF was that game. I’m more of a builder so for me there’s ongoing playability. I just want more placeables to flesh out my structures. I’d also really like the items on shelves to be bigger so they look filled.

For the door situation, outta be pressure plates you can select and place in and outside the doors. Few settings for teammates both AI and player, to walk on it and the door would open, walk on the next one inside/outside the door and the lock is put back on the door same with wall gates. Give another use for turtle shells, or add welcome mats into specific places, where they respawn ofcourse. Perhaps fishing villages?
I've kind of had the opposite effect. On my Hard Survival game, the cannibals and mutants can still easily get into my base if I leave one or both gates open, but neither Kelvin or Virginia can pathfind their way back in since the update booted them out of it. That and the Log sled is broken now as it follows the navmesh and not terrain collision, and it likes catapulting either itself or myself if I don't play a very careful dance with it once I interact with it.

Man I wish Bethesda would add that automatic navmeshing to their games just think modders of their games that add custom maps have to do that BY HAND meaning clicking and dragging little triangles around. If you wanna see how painstaking that process is look up a Skyblivion stream where they're navmeshing, it takes hours.
