    The first time I’ve seen a video that shows the pops when shifting clearly. My favorite part about the automatic variant. Still a blast to drive.

    Great video! How long does it take to do a lap? I really fancy one of these cars.

      Thanks! Looking at the footage, I was averaging around 1:40 a lap which is so-so.

    @:53 i hear and see what seems to be transmission slipping. Almost every automatic gt86 i drive and see seems to slip gear very slightly on upshift. Normal or problem?? thanks. Completely stock engine? Final drive ratio seems too tall. good video :)

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC  3 года назад +3

      I think you're right, they all slip a tiny bit, but it's very minor and I don't really notice it in terms of performance.
      The final drive is indeed taller (4.1 -> 4.556), but as you may know the AT cars have longer gearing than the MTs, and this ratio brings gears 1 - 3 back in line with the MT cars 👍
      On the motorway, I can do 70mph at 2500rpm exactly, so it's a good ratio I think.

    Are you manually shifting throughout this video?

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC  2 года назад +2

      I am indeed, as a general rule I only use “full auto” on the road (in stop-start traffic), since this is also my daily driver.

    • @05American
      @05American 2 года назад

      That is AWESOME. I really appreciate your channel and videos. I am going to get a GR86 to daily and track, and I've been worried about which trans to get. I love manuals but my hip/knee/back problems make me want a good paddle shift car.

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC  2 года назад +1

      Thanks man, and I totally understand where you’re coming from - I chose an auto as the car is also my daily, and I live pretty central in London where traffic is stop-start all the time… having an auto has saved my knee!

    does it auto upshift in manual mode?

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC  3 года назад +4

      Not at all, you can hold the revs for as long as you want in manual mode 👍🏼

  • @ago6211

    What did you do to get those nice shift-pops?

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC  3 года назад +5

      The shift-pops are from the ECU cutting fuel (when shifting) which is standard on the automatic cars, as unlike a manual you don’t lift off when changing gears.
      You can hear the same shift-pops in this clip of someone else’s car (@1.18): ruclips.net/video/FEYas0NtAJE/видео.html

      @@3782MC I have an automatic with the OFT Stage 2+ UEL tune (UEL headers too) but it doesn't seem to do it like yours.

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC  3 года назад +2

      @@ago6211 the pops are possibly a bit “exaggerated” in some of my footage, as I use an external microphone placed on the rear bumper ~30cm away from the exhaust.
      As for what it sounds like inside the car, here’s a recent clip without the external mic: ruclips.net/video/j8PoOVbN_tQ/видео.html

      Hey Ivan, I’m running 5w-30 Fuchs Titan Race Pro S and the car is also fitted with the below oil-related mods:
      • Cusco “Forester style” oil cooler
      • Cosworth sump baffle

      What is it that you don’t understand? The car is still fun to drive changing gears with the flappy paddles - unless you’re just being a troll and bashing autos generally...
