    • @3782MC
      @3782MC 2 месяца назад

      It’s a built engine so there are quite a few mods, but the “key” components are forged rods, beehive valve springs, larger oil pump gear, and Fluidampr crank pulley. Manifold / header is the HKS EL, going to an HKS front pipe, then a 200-cell high flow cat and single-exit catback. The cat and catback are both custom fabrications by Hayward & Scott in the UK.

    Do you feel changing the final drive made a difference? Looking at getting the 6AT 86 but dont want it to feel sluggish

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC 2 месяца назад

      Hey man - I have the 4.556 final drive and that’s definitely helped with the longer gear ratios, especially 4th gear and above where they really lose out to the manuals. I think that a 4.8 or 5.1 would be even better for a track only car, I’ve stayed with 4.556 as mine is also used for long motorway journeys. With the 4.556, I still get bogged down (a bit) in 5th and 6th but it keeps cruising rpms (70mph in 6th gear) at around 2,500, which is perfect for longer drives. By contrast the manuals sit at 3,000 rpm when cruising at 70mph, which is a bit too much I feel (especially with an upgraded exhaust), a 4.8 or 5.1 would probably bring you a bit closer to that.

      @@3782MC Cheers for the reply, yeah interesting to hear about the rpm difference you get. For me the car would be mainly a daily but taking it out to the mountain roads on the weekend so still unsure if its even worth changing haha

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC 2 месяца назад

      @@xJoshx77 The stock ratio is 4.1, so I’d say definitely yes - 4.556 worked really well even before my car was supercharged, I feel that a shorter FD on the autos really “wakes up” the car.

      @@xJoshx77 No worries at all - always happy to share info 👍🏼 Mine is a generic kit put together using OEM Toyota parts, I think my drive gear is from a JDM Toyota Crown which uses the same differential unit. I think there are other kits out there that also use OEM components (potentially the Cusco 4.556 kit), so there’s a wide range of choices. I’d certainly recommend those over kits that use straight cut gears, e.g. Weir if the car will be a daily, as the gear whine (albeit cool because “racecar”) can be annoying over time.

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC 2 месяца назад

      The auto’s pretty good once you learn how to “anticipate” when it shifts - it’s no DSG but does change pretty quickly, especially for a torque converter box. In my case, the auto makes sense as I live in a crowded city (London) and do long motorway journeys where the taller gearing is better - oddly, the auto box also handles more power than the manuals, which was perfect for when I recently fitted a supercharger 👍🏼

    • @hoqs_onboards
      @hoqs_onboards 2 месяца назад

      @@3782MC thanks for the reply, that makes sense. For me it's not going to be a daily car and manual would be normally an obvious choice, but there are couple of well maintained autos in my area to choose from and I anticipate they might be less abused than manuals... Guess couple test drives will tell more. BTW just discovered your newest vids after FI install, makes quite a difference... Hope the SC experience will be problem-free for the engine long term! :)

      @3782MC 2 месяца назад

      I really like the Sport Contact 7, it’s a really good “all rounder” that performs well on track and on the road, and is also great in the wet. On track, the CSC7 isn’t far off the Potenza in terms of dry grip… it’s not that the CSC7 grips like a semi-slick, but more the other way round, as in the Potenza isn’t very grippy compared to (say) the AD08R / AD09. I’ll continue to run the Potenzas for summer track days, but probably won’t buy them again.

    It is very rare to see over correction, and I don't that happened here. You need to put on a lot of lock quickly to catch a slide, and when it snaps back you need to go from one lock to the other even faster, which you didn't manage. You were slow with the the opposite lock, and then when it snapped back, you were slow again, and ended up with the front wheels still turned left when the car straightened up. After that, the gravel trap beckoned.

      It was unfortunate timing but I think that particular coil pack was already on its way out, and the sustained motorway blast was the final straw. However it’s not done too badly having survived 120,000 miles, and ~35 track days!

    Sounds good as, how are you getting the pops from the exhaust? Is it just a mix of the HKS manifold and catback system? Cheers

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC 4 месяца назад

      As I understand it, all auto 86s will do this as the “pops” are caused by the ECU pulling ignition between gear changes. However the sound will be much more pronounced with an aftermarket manifold, exhaust, sports cat (which is what I have).

      @@xJoshx77 it's an ECUtek tune, but pretty sure the pops were there even with a stock tune + exhaust mods.

    Glad you are both ok. He had so much room to manage the understeer, keep the throttle in on a FWD car and you are fine. Easy to say from behind an iPad thought having done a lot of track days.

    If you're running the standard rear anti-roll bar you may want to go up +2mm in thickness (Impreza STI hatch is the OEM straight swap)..

    Great video :) Thanks for sharing ! You might want to look into changing the spring rates. The car when pushed looks to understeer. Most are running the same or stiffer rear spring. I myself went with 7k front 8k rear.

    • @3782MC
      @3782MC Год назад

      You’re not wrong! I came from having 4.5k front and 5.2k rear springs and have been trying to get used to the understeer bias since. I’ll be swapping coilovers before the end of the year 😅

      @@3782MC haha lucky guess. Are you just changing the springs or going to a different brand of coilovers all together
