I edit content for companies/people I felt that having the office in the house was distracting because I could be doing stuff in my house. Plus with local clients having them come in my house was fine until I had kids. So over the summer I turned my 8x10 shed into an office. I am less distracted because I'm out of the house and no-one goes in my house. But at my next place I plan to get a used 20 foot camper and convert it to an office.

I do and I've been enjoying the process. I recently relocated to Metro Atlanta and moved into a space where I have a dedicated office space and a separate studio for live-streaming and videos creation. In my last place my studio/office were combined and I found it stifling to my creativity.

I had a office space, during the pandemic we bought a house and moved everything to the house instead. Bad Idea ; i have my office ready but can never work in it🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️. If I’m in my office the rest of the house just see it as « he’s available ». Now I’m in the process to look for a space

Thank you for this video Chris. My home office is presently failing me. Prior to Hurricane Dorian I had a 6000sqft studio and I can truly say that i've been less creative and motivated here than I was there. Just the separation between the two allowed a different dimension to my life. Driving to the office and stopping for a coffee on the way while I think of the endless possibilities was so much different than the walk down the hall from my bedroom to my office. I think you've confirmed that its time for a change. Thanks again

Good stuff! I did the "rise and grind" thing for about a year and a half when I worked for myself. I have a 9-5 now and it's much easier to set those boundaries and still take on the extra projects that I want now that I'm not fully reliant on those for income.

Great video, Chris! I had worked from home for almost 10 years when my baby girl was born 2 years ago. My office in our old house wasn't really an office, it was just a small, totally accessible room. Once my baby could walk and come and take over my computer screens to sit on my lap while working, that was when I decided to rent a space. For the first 3-6 months, it was great! I loved the barriers it created. Since then, we purchased a new home and have had our 2nd baby girl and now I am building a dedicated office room in our new basement so that I can get back home! lol It's crazy how life changes can affect how and why we do things but I am SO EXCITED to bring my office back home soon! Wishing you the best of luck in your endeavors and I am excited to hear your upcoming news! Cheers!

I definitely have a home office and the same rules apply to the office as it does to my bedroom and living room. Use the room for what it's intended and don't mix work with relaxation (unless it's writing, that's equal parts fun, relaxing, and work). I read in a psychology report a couple years back that people who worked in the bedrooms went to sleep later or had not so great rest and began to associate work with their beds - like a desk or work station. I keep everything separate and maintain a good schedule that mimics my college schedule. Balance.

I totally feel you on the being trapped in your own space stuff.... I'd be too embarrassed to publicly post a picture of my current space that is my bedroom, office, jam room and gear storage..... ugh
Yes, cery demotivational... I am hopefully soon to get a studio/work office off sote from where I reside. Just the thought of that feels like the 1st sunshine day of summer to me.... it has me excited about the work endeavors I have coming up!!!

Man..! This hit home in a major way! Being new to the production world and excited to start working from home.. I quickly realized it’s not as glamorous as I thought it would be. But like you, I came to the realization that I needed to get some things in order and now that I’m also starting my own RUclips channel. A lot of points you make in this video are going to be helpful! Thanks for the tips bruh! 🙏🏾 you earned my sub!

I tried a home office for the first two years of business. It was more stressful than productive. Being married, having kids, dogs, etc was not ideal for productivity. I’ve rented a studio/office space for the last 18 years.

Love this video, you are an inspiration, I'm glad you made this video because having a home office is what I've been dreaming of and soon as I get the opportunity I'm going to remember this video you've made and try not to box myself in, but for now I'll keep taking over my sisters room at her house whenever I go over and make videos in there lol, she doesn't mind she's in Copenhagen right now, but anyways great video and great tips.

Thank you for this video. It's been a rough year for us and our once flourishing home office has turned into a hangout to watch Netflix and clean camera equipment. I really felt demotivated and guilty. But, with health and finances getting better we're trying to get back into a groove.

Thanks for your perspective; it's a good reminder. Worked from home before and, especially for freelance, it can take discipline. I plan to return to it this year if I can.
When I did it before, after a while I found myself going to bed at silly hours of the morning, and then waking up at maybe 2pm and starting to work. Really messed with my body clock. Eventually I got a bit of a handle on it and started to exercise, and also made sure to pop to the local shops once a day, or go and get a coffee near an area with a man made lake. Made a big difference.

Depends what time of the day you are the most productive.
When I was younger my most productive time been 9pm to 2am. Really.
I could sleep longer then, and relax in the morning. I have never drunk any coffee back then.
Now since I have to wake up in the morning, I'm not sure any more when my most productive time is. I guess 20 minutes after my coffee ;).
